Tis the season to get cozy and cuddle up with video games by the fireplace (or whatever nook/cranny you choose)!
Luckily, with the holiday season usually comes a little time off from the daily grind, and some excess time to spend with the friends and family. Unfortunately, this season more-so than others. However, it is important that we all still spend time with the ones we can, in any safe way we can.
What better way to do that than to boot up a console and delve into an amazing adventure that you may enjoy with everyone, and all from the comfort of your own home. Or even if you just feel like spending some quality time with numero uno, video games give us a chance to explore infinite worlds right at our fingertips. Here are some of my favorite cozy games that are perfect for this time of year.
Obviously, when it comes to the holiday season, not many games take it to the level that Animal Crossing does. Get the full experience from weather and environmental changes, to special items and events, the Animal Crossing franchise has it all. It really doesn’t matter which game you choose, as they are all adorable and delightful and full wonderful holiday themed goodies! If you can’t afford a new game right now, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp is free to play on mobile devices. If you are looking for the ultimate Animal Crossing experience, you’ll want to pick up Animal Crossing New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch.
Another super adorable game that doesn’t shy away from the winter month’s is Ooblets. Ooblets is a cute creature collection game with some pretty epic dance battles. Just recently, the developers updated their game to help players enjoy the immersion that is experiencing the holidays in real life, and in game. The update (of course) brought a snowy environment as well as’ “We put in a load of work on this update to bring you a whole new region with its own storyline, characters, ooblets, crops, and craftables.” – via devlog.
Nothing beats the frantic action with friends that a good party game can stir up. Overcooked 2 is fast paced action with food that gets super crazy super fast, and is always a hilarious good time. And, with the Winter Wonderland DLC, you can take the game to a whole new holiday level (literally speaking). “Moreover, with these 5 new festive kitchens, you can cook s’mores by the campfire, feed the Horde which are now holiday cookies and candy canes, and use those awesome new cannons from the carnival levels!”
If you love exploring wintery worlds and crafting darn anything your mind can come up with, Portal Knights is perfect for you and friends. Rebuild the festive portal and head over to the Winter Wonderland, where you’ll be greeted with new quests, holiday themed enemies, and cool festive items! There’s even an adorable reindeer pet waiting for you! Players need to have visited the first island of the second cluster (Landlubber’s Leap) in order for the event to trigger.
The developers have announced that the new 1.4.1 update helps prepare Slime Rancher for Wiggly Wonderland. It is currently available on PC and consoles. The developers promise “There will be plenty of fun surprises happening both on the Far, Far Range and outside of the game.” Every day of the event, the Twinkle Slime will appear in-game somewhere on the Far, Far Range. Follow the music to find the twinkle slime and receive a collection of musical chimes!
Stardew Valley is still held as one of the greatest indie games ever made. And considering that fact that it is a true blue life sim, you can most certainly expect to see some harsh times during the winter months. The entire gets covered in a nice blanket of snow, the trees change colors, and most of your crops will no longer grow. So, all that’s left to do is enjoy the coziest weather in one of the coziest games currently available.
Garden Paws is an adorable life-sim game just full of the cutest creatures, and is still planned for a release on Nintendo Switch. Don’t take my word for it, though, here is a review from Steam “Cutest game EVER! So adorable! Mix of Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon! hours of fun! they’ve updated and added so much since the last i played it! <3”. The game also got its very own winter update. Of the many wintery things brought to the game, included are 21 new and unique winter themed items including a Candy Cane Fence, Ice Table, Ice Shelves, a Sleigh and a Winter Tree.
Did I miss any?
These are just some of the cute games I love that include a winter update. If there are any games that you think belong on this list, let me know in the comments, please!
Here are some of my favorite farming games currently available, or coming soon, for the different consoles.
It seems that these days new farming games are coming out left and right. And because most single-person or small-team indie groups tend to build their games on PC, we get a lot of these awesome farming games on PC first. Compared to ten years ago, Steam is overflowing with farming games! Sometimes they come to console later, but some will remain exclusive forever.
But there is good news for everyone who has a preference for console gaming, or who doesn’t have a game-worthy PC right now. We’ve put together a satisfyingly large list of farming games that are either already available on console, or are confirmed to be coming to console at a later time.
Here are some console games that contain farming, growing or gardening mechanics, and they are all available on at least one dedicated gaming machine that is currently still in production. But they are not all in the same genre, and the emphasis placed on farming is different in each game, so these lists represent a variety.
I hope you’ll spot some of your favorites here, and maybe even have a few more to tell me about, so we can continue to make this list longer and longer.

Little did I know when I started to play Little Dragons Cafe that I’d become so invested in the story line and characters. A small family of a mom, brother, and sister run a cafe together. One day, mom gets sick and you find out that she’s half dragon. An old man appears and tells the brother and sister that if they run the cafe together and raise this baby dragon well, their mom will be cured.

Return to PopoloCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale (3DS)
Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns just came out, but this is whole different game within the same franchise. It combines the best you know from Story of Seasons and turns it into an adorable RPG Adventure Game. Popolo Crois comes with an engaging story line, and interesting characters that you will meet along the way.
Ever Oasis sports a team structure during dungeon crawling that’s reminiscent of Xenoblade. It seems like gameplay focuses mostly on combat when you’re in these dungeons. Other than that, mission and story structure are about what you’d expect from the average RPG.

With the Welcome Amiibo update coming to New Leaf in the same period of time that Animal Crossing Pocket Camp was meant to release, it’s blatantly obvious that the two titles were supposed to have the connectivity that Nintendo had teased

Time for a super magical iteration of the myPotatoGames Best Cute Games series!!
There is never a short supply of endlessly cute games out there, especially ones that contain a magical element in some way, shape or for. Be it crafting potions, learning spells, taming beasts, flying on broomsticks; you can be darned sure that there is always something amazing to do in a world where nothing is impossible! Use the powers inside you to change the world for good, or bring it to its knees before you, it is usually up to you. In Serin Fate you play as a Witch and therefore you are in possession of some magical powers. As you begin playing the game you will start learning new spells that can help you on your journey. The small development team behind the game states that inspiration was taken from games such as “Pokemon, Harvest Moon, Runescape, and Chrono Trigger.” Serin Fate offers a wide variety of tasks that remind me a lot of Fantasy Life that also offers a wide variety of things to do. In this game however, you can freely choose where you’d like to dedicate your focus and time towards to. Feel like crafting some new armor to protect yourself on your next adventure? or maybe instead build some furniture to restore your hut? The choice is always yours. (more info)
Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time
For those unfamiliar with Little Witch Academia, entries to the series take place at Luna Nova Academy, a school for witches in training. The protagonist of the franchise is Akko, an optimistic and energetic (albeit slightly impulsive) Japanese girl who comes from a non-magical background. In my opinion, this is similar to the various Harry Potter characters that come from a Muggle family. Chamber of Time offers players the ability to uncover the various mysteries of Luna Nova Academy. The game features the lovable protagonist Akko, as well as a variety of her friends. Players can explore dungeons, cast spells and use various magic to discover the seven wonders, as well as to resolve the mysterious time-shit that has occurred. (more info)
In Spellcaster University, you take on the role of the director of a magic university in a heroic fantasy world. Build your school, manage your budget, recruit teachers. Or why not train adventurous mages, offering them options to learn how to fight and be discreet? But this will require surviving the ruthless attacks of the orc tribes and the controls of the education authorities. (more info)
You can also explore the huge land surrounding your home and go down deep in the woods to cut down some trees, should you be in need of some lumber. Alchemy Garden also invites you to decorate the outside of your house so unleash your creativity and create your very own magical little hideout. Besides the busy lifestyle of running and Potion Shop, making magic and more, you need a little place to call your home. You will start out with a small house to yourself. You are free to decorate the inside as well as the outside of your plot in any fashion you like. Place furniture, plants and more to really give it a ‘homie’ feel! (more info)

The game currently available on Apple Arcade ( the Netflix for mobile games on Apple devices )features a a wide array of things to do. You can interact with various people you meet on your journey using what appears to be a text message based communication system much like… well texting on your phone! (more info)
Calico came about due to the game developer’s obsession with cats, magical girls and fluffy animals. However, wanting to create a game that would appeal to everyone, she also included creatures such as lizards, birds, deer, raccoons, dogs, turtles, red pandas, foxes, etc. She then shares about how she wanted to publish a game that would make players feel ‘soft, happy, cuddly and cozy’. If that wasn’t wholesome enough, she has said in an interview that she just wanted to create a game where the only goal is to have the best time possible. (more info)

If you enjoy platform games like Cuphead and Leilani’s Island, then I think you’ll also dig Enchanted Portals. Platformers are always a great escape from the bigger games that can sometimes overcomplicate things. Your lack of knowledge in regards to magic is what gets you trapped in the first place, we’ll see how it helps you get out! You will have to fight some crazy and whimsical bosses to find all the pages of your magic book. Once assembled, the book will give you the ability to return home. A simple yet enthralling story that I can’t wait to enjoy. (more info)

A Hat in Time
A Hat in Time is a very cute 3D adventure platformer featuring a little girl in a big top hat, known simply as “Hat Kid”. Hat Kid’s goal is easy to sympathize with: she wants to get home. But as she is on her way there, the Mafia of a nearby planet attack her ship when she won’t pay their ‘toll’. All of her ship’s fuel (magical hourglasses called ‘Time Pieces’) is scattered to the world below. She must gather them all up before she can resume her journey. Time to frolic with our fuzzy feline friends with this list of the best cute games for cat lovers!
As if kitties weren’t already cute enough, getting to interact with them in the digital world always seems to be just too cute for words. Whether they are just doing their usual dismissive thang with all that sass, or guiding you with the deep wisdoms of an unhindered stoic, cats always make for either a great addition to a game, or even the centerpiece of a grand adventure.
Here are some games that I have found that fall into that category, but also bring some extra cuteness to the table.
This project started with a love for magical girls, cats, and a want to create a game that’s light, pink, cute, fluffy, and feminine. It also incorporates everything that’s enjoyable from a simulation game like Animal Crossing (furniture, decorations) but the animals will not leave/die, the shop will never close and the crops will not rot. The objective of the game is to make the town’s cat café active and full of cuddly creatures again such as cats, deer, raccoons, dogs, turtles, red pandas, foxes and more! For more Calico info head over here.

Strange and eery occurrences are happening. And there’s something in the woods. This charming game with beautiful music can be purchased for only £17.09 on the Switch eShop.

Little Friends: Dogs & Cats is a pet simulation game for Nintendo Switch. The Nintendogs-esque game is set to be released in Japan on 6th December. The game allows players to reside and play with cats and dogs with “lifelike models, textures, expressions, and animations.”
STRAY originally started off as a concept called HK_Project. The premise being that players explored a strange/modern city as a stray cat. The few images and gifs that were floating about the internet became pretty popular and piqued the interest of many. A few years on, after many had forgot about HK_Project due to radio silence, the game made a surprising reappearance. On June the 11th 2020, an official announcement confirmed that the game, now entitled STRAY, will definitely be released. Even more excitingly, the game seems quite close to completion.
Developed and published by Falcon Entertainment for PC, Mac and Linux on December 1st of 2017, the game has garnered very ‘paws-itive’ feedback since its release. Through the eyes of a cat, Cattails allows players to hunt for food, interact with other cats, gather herbs and explore an expansive world. Kotaku have said that “Cattails looks like Stardew Valley, except cats.” and IGN have said that Cattails is “an adorably silly game, but one that’s also a lot of fun.” Stardew Valley is arguably one of the most popular and beloved indie games among fans of the genre. Mixing the lovely farming game with the cuteness of cats just sounds like a lot of fun to me!
