Time for a super magical iteration of the myPotatoGames Best Cute Games series!!

There is never a short supply of endlessly cute games out there, especially ones that contain a magical element in some way, shape or for. Be it crafting potions, learning spells, taming beasts, flying on broomsticks; you can be darned sure that there is always something amazing to do in a world where nothing is impossible! Use the powers inside you to change the world for good, or bring it to its knees before you, it is usually up to you. Well, here are a few games that let you experience first hand the day to day life of your average (or excellent) witch or wizard.

    Serin Fate

In Serin Fate you play as a Witch and therefore you are in possession of some magical powers. As you begin playing the game you will start learning new spells that can help you on your journey. The small development team behind the game states that inspiration was taken from games such as “Pokemon, Harvest Moon, Runescape, and Chrono Trigger.” Serin Fate offers a wide variety of tasks that remind me a lot of Fantasy Life that also offers a wide variety of things to do. In this game however, you can freely choose where you’d like to dedicate your focus and time towards to. Feel like crafting some new armor to protect yourself on your next adventure? or maybe instead build some furniture to restore your hut? The choice is always yours. (more info)

    Serin Fate

Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time

For those unfamiliar with Little Witch Academia, entries to the series take place at Luna Nova Academy, a school for witches in training. The protagonist of the franchise is Akko, an optimistic and energetic (albeit slightly impulsive) Japanese girl who comes from a non-magical background. In my opinion, this is similar to the various Harry Potter characters that come from a Muggle family. Chamber of Time offers players the ability to uncover the various mysteries of Luna Nova Academy. The game features the lovable protagonist Akko, as well as a variety of her friends. Players can explore dungeons, cast spells and use various magic to discover the seven wonders, as well as to resolve the mysterious time-shit that has occurred. (more info)

    Little Witch Academia

    Spellcaster University

In Spellcaster University, you take on the role of the director of a magic university in a heroic fantasy world. Build your school, manage your budget, recruit teachers. Will you make it a high place of black magic, with the best necromancy and demonology teachers? Or a school in harmony with nature to train druids and shamans? Or why not train adventurous mages, offering them options to learn how to fight and be discreet? But this will require surviving the ruthless attacks of the orc tribes and the controls of the education authorities. (more info)

    Potion Paws

Potions Paws is created by the developers of Garden Paws; Bitten Toast Games. It’s a shorter standalone game with a spooky theme that includes potion-crafting and dungeon-crawling. If you own both Garden Paws and Potion Paws on Steam you’ll unlock a spooky furniture set, a cat ghost companion, and more! The Kickstarter is live right now (September 5th, 2019) and you can make a pledge for a Steam key and many exclusive rewards right here. We backed this project right away and wanted to point at that the higher tiers will include a pet black cat with a cape! See below for a summary of the Kickstarter page. (more info)

    Alchemy Garden

You can also explore the huge land surrounding your home and go down deep in the woods to cut down some trees, should you be in need of some lumber. Alchemy Garden also invites you to decorate the outside of your house so unleash your creativity and create your very own magical little hideout. Besides the busy lifestyle of running and Potion Shop, making magic and more, you need a little place to call your home. You will start out with a small house to yourself. You are free to decorate the inside as well as the outside of your plot in any fashion you like. Place furniture, plants and more to really give it a ‘homie’ feel! (more info)

    Magicians Quest: Mysterious Times

Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times is a fantasy life simulation game for the Nintendo DS. After customising the appearance, name and gender of their character, players are able to attend classes at the game’s magic academy. During classes, players will learn spells and incantations, the mysteries of magic, and interact with fellow students. Despite criticism for its striking resemblance to Animal Crossing games, Magician’s Quest offers plenty of unique features for players to enjoy. Examples include: monthly quests during ‘Mystery Time’, dates with other students, the ability to form a band, getting to prank others (and be pranked), plus many more amusing quirks. (more info)

    Calico

Calico came about due to the game developer’s obsession with cats, magical girls and fluffy animals. However, wanting to create a game that would appeal to everyone, she also included creatures such as lizards, birds, deer, raccoons, dogs, turtles, red pandas, foxes, etc. She then shares about how she wanted to publish a game that would make players feel ‘soft, happy, cuddly and cozy’. If that wasn’t wholesome enough, she has said in an interview that she just wanted to create a game where the only goal is to have the best time possible. (more info)

In the game, you play as a team of two rookie magicians who have been trapped between two dimensions. Your lack of knowledge in regards to magic is what gets you trapped in the first place, we’ll see how it helps you get out! Fantasy Life Online is the follow up game to the popular 3DS game.

The Fantasy Life franchise holds a special place in many players hearts. The 3DS game released back in 2014 packed so much content that to date fans are replaying the adorable simulation and RPG game.

I still find myself picking up my dusty Nintendo 3DS just to check back in and do some quests to help out my villagers. Even though the game celebrated a massive success a sequel was never released.

However, Level-5 has not put the franchise to rest, even though it may look like this here in the West. Back in 2018 a spiritual successor was released in Japan.

    Fantasy Life Online was born

Fantasy Life Online as the name suggest lets you connect your gaming experience with friends from all around the world. You are able to share your village with friends. Simply explore the beautiful 3D world with your companions and even trade tools you crafted or obtained through a quest.

The entire game is connected to the internet so that you can share your world with your friends or random players if you choose. It is a pretty neat idea that works well for a game like this. It is just fun to have friends join you exploring the world, take on challenges together and then trade equipment.

New but still the same – become whoever you want to be

Even though Fantasy Life Online is always connected to the internet you still have the charm and feature rich game you come to expect from a Fantasy Life game.

There are a whooping twelve jobs you can choose from, no matter if you want to be an archer, a chef, a blacksmith or any other of the many profession you can pick.

If you become a fisherman you will be faced with different challenges and quests, as if you would if you choose to become the owner of the village bakery. Whatever you want to be in Fantasy Life Online, there will always be plenty of activities to do every single day.

The only difference here is that your experience can now be shared with friends in a greater way that the original 3DS game would allow you to do.

    Village Building

There is a big focus on Village Building in Fantasy Life Online. Not only will you be able to adjust and change the look and feel of your very own town, but you can also place buildings and decorate the area to your liking.

Your adventure and quests in the game will change depending on the buildings you construct in your town. Furthermore you will be able to invite your friends to your village, to trade and exchange items. You can also team up to go exploring and adventuring together. Your friends will also be able to help you advance your town faster.

    Home Sweet Home

Similar to Animal Crossing, you will be able to build and decorate your own home. If you chose the right occupation you may even be able to craft your very own furniture, that is if you collect the materials needed!

But if you aren’t feeling so handy, then you can still purchase and chose from a variety of different furniture and items to make your house a home.

    Fantasy Life Online Western Release

The game has been available on iOS and Android since July 2018 in Japan. The title is still getting frequent content update catering to the huge community that has formed around the game.

Level-5 has not made an official announcement in regards to a western release of the game. But the company has made big moves to release many of their game in the west like the Snack World – especially on Nintendo Switch.

There is still hope that the game will be released in Europe, US and Australia in the future. I have reached out to Level-5 to see if they have any information to share.

You may still download the game on iOS and Android however the language may be Japanese only. Lets just hope for a new Fantasy Life game, perhaps on Switch or even a western port of this adorable mobile version.

Time to frolic with our fuzzy feline friends with this list of the best cute games for cat lovers!

As if kitties weren’t already cute enough, getting to interact with them in the digital world always seems to be just too cute for words. Whether they are just doing their usual dismissive thang with all that sass, or guiding you with the deep wisdoms of an unhindered stoic, cats always make for either a great addition to a game, or even the centerpiece of a grand adventure.

Here are some games that I have found that fall into that category, but also bring some extra cuteness to the table.

    Calico

This project started with a love for magical girls, cats, and a want to create a game that’s light, pink, cute, fluffy, and feminine. It also incorporates everything that’s enjoyable from a simulation game like Animal Crossing (furniture, decorations) but the animals will not leave/die, the shop will never close and the crops will not rot. The objective of the game is to make the town’s cat café active and full of cuddly creatures again such as cats, deer, raccoons, dogs, turtles, red pandas, foxes and more! For more Calico info head over here.

Cat Quest / Cat Quest II

Cat Quest is an open world, action adventure RPG set in a world of cats, developed by The Gentlebros. The Cat Quest page on the Nintendo website (which is full of cat puns) explains how your player’s sister is kidnapped and you therefore embark on a journey to save her from the evil Drakoth. Available for only £9.99 on the Nintendo eShop, Cat Quest for Switch is a purr-chase your bank account won’t hate you for!

    Snacko

Snacko is a farming simulation game developed by an indie studio called bluecurse, based in Vancover, BC, Canada. The founders, husband and wife Jordan and Erisa, wanted to create a world “where cats rule the land” and so the project began in 2018. Snacko is expected to release sometime in the year 2021 for PC and Nintendo Switch. Get some more news on this cat-tactic game!

    Snacko Farming

    Night in the Woods

Night in the Woods is an autumnal themed indie adventure game. Highly relatable to many, the game shows the crumbling former mining town of Possum Springs. After the protagonist, Mae Borowski drops out of college and returns to her hometown, she finds things as gloomy and hopeless as ever. But this time there’s something more. Strange and eery occurrences are happening. And there’s something in the woods. This charming game with beautiful music can be purchased for only £17.09 on the Switch eShop.

    Mineko’s Night Market

Mineko’s Night Market is a cute cat-themed upcoming game for PC, Mac and Switch by Meowza games. You play as Mineko, a girl who has just moved to a superstitious island overrun with cats. The aim of the game is to find materials, craft items and sell them at the Night Market. You can befriend villagers, fish, undertake quests, play mini-games, plus more! Whilst it was initially hoped that the game would be released in late 2018, its release has now been pushed back until 2020.

    Little Friends: Cats & Dogs

Little Friends: Dogs & Cats is a pet simulation game for Nintendo Switch. The Nintendogs-esque game is set to be released in Japan on 6th December. The game allows players to reside and play with cats and dogs with “lifelike models, textures, expressions, and animations.”

    Stray

STRAY originally started off as a concept called HK_Project. The premise being that players explored a strange/modern city as a stray cat. The few images and gifs that were floating about the internet became pretty popular and piqued the interest of many. A few years on, after many had forgot about HK_Project due to radio silence, the game made a surprising reappearance. On June the 11th 2020, an official announcement confirmed that the game, now entitled STRAY, will definitely be released. Even more excitingly, the game seems quite close to completion.

    Cattails

Developed and published by Falcon Entertainment for PC, Mac and Linux on December 1st of 2017, the game has garnered very ‘paws-itive’ feedback since its release. Through the eyes of a cat, Cattails allows players to hunt for food, interact with other cats, gather herbs and explore an expansive world. Kotaku have said that “Cattails looks like Stardew Valley, except cats.” and IGN have said that Cattails is “an adorably silly game, but one that’s also a lot of fun.” Stardew Valley is arguably one of the most popular and beloved indie games among fans of the genre. Mixing the lovely farming game with the cuteness of cats just sounds like a lot of fun to me!

    Cattails

    A Street Cats Tail

Originally released on mobile and late on Steam, A Street Cats Tale is a slightly darker RPG that puts you in the role of a lost young cat. Each individual cat will have their own personality, desires, needs and general state of being. The well being of your towns inhabitants is of the utmost importance, so it is paramount that you fully engage with your community. Seeing as how one of the devs was an engineer for the The Sims, there even be an especially intuitive interaction system in the game, to help keep all your cat neighbors happy.

    Unfamiliar

Unfamiliar is a relaxing fantasy adventure game where you take the form of a cat-witch who sets out to acquire magic ingredients from storybook worlds to craft items and create enchanting costumes. Lobanov’s previous title, Wandersong, received a loving reception and created quite a buzz for it’s beautiful play-style and unique take on an art game. Halloween is coming up and I love nothing more than to cozy up with some of my favorite video games and celebrate the holidays in my favorite virtual worlds. Decorating my environment or simply enjoying the festive time with my favorite game characters is just so much fun. Here are some of the spooky or not so spooky games I look forward to playing this Halloween season!

    Animal Crossing New Leaf

It has been 8 years that Animal Crossing New Leaf was released and I still pick it up frequently. Of course I am working hard to decorate my island in New Horizons, but New Leaf is still a lot of fun as well and I have yet to say goodbye to my old village on the 3DS.

The game features a really fun Halloween event where you can collect lollipops and various candy pieces from villagers in your town. You then have the choice to exchange these goodies with Jack who will be in your town on October 31st, Depending on what you hand over, you will get Spooky or Creepy furniture! Animal Crossing New Leaf is currently available on the Nintendo 3DS / 2DS.

This charming game with beautiful music can be played on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, Linux, Xbox One, Android, Macintosh operating systems, and iOS.

    Luigi Mansion 3

Nintendo announced during their Nintendo Direct at E3 2019 that Luigi’s Mansion 3 is coming to the Nintendo Switch on October 31st, 2019. Now a year after its initial release, Luigi receives a dream vacation package with Mario and friends to a luxurious hotel. Once there however, King Boo reveals everything had been a ploy and now everyone is captured! Each floor of the hotel is its own unique level but this time, you don’t have to do it alone!

    Thimbleweed Park

Thimbleweed Park is a puzzle-mystery game that features pixel graphics. The tiny town of Thimbleweed Park is home to 80 very strange people. Five people with nothing in common are drawn to the town. Although they might not yet know it, they are all deeply connected. They’re also all being watched. From a rotting corpse to an abandoned circus, the game is a far cry from Stardew Valley. The game is available to play on Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Linux, and Mac.

Costume Quest & Costume Quest 2

Costume Quest is a Halloween-themed party-based RPG game. The game is developed by Double Fine Productions and published by THQ. With the PC version of the game garnering a score of 81/100, critics praised the game’s atmosphere, graphics, and audio.

    Animal Crossing Pocket Camp

Animal Crossing Pocket Camp is the mobile version of the much beloved Animal Crossing series. While it doesn’t offer the freedom of the console games, it still does a great job at delivering a super cute gaming experience.
