Today, June 13th, 2019, is the last day for E3 and we here at myPotatoGames have done a deep-dive into live-streams and hashtags for very promising games that you, the viewers at home, might not have seen. Below we get a closer look at new trailers and announcements from games we’ve never covered before and are excited to play.

    Lost Words: Beyond the Page

Modus Games had their booth (#2513) set up in the South Hall at this year’s E3 and were showcasing some of the games they have published: Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, Lost Words: Beyond the Page, Ary and the Secret of Seasons, and Bear With Me: The Lost Robots. One game stood out to us and that was Lost Words, a multi-award winning narrative game set inside a diary. The game is developed by Sketchbook Games and Fourth State and will be releasing December 2019 on PS4, Xbox One and Steam, which you can wishlist right here.

    About the Game

Lost Words is a 2D narrative adventure game where players move words to solve puzzles. The game features a story written by Rhianna Pratchett and ties the narrative into the gameplay in an unusual way; having the player running on and interacting with words to solve puzzles.

    Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin

Xseed Games had their booth (#4700) set up in the West Hall and were showcasing the following games: Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, BurgerTime Party, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, Heroland, Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed, Rune Factory 4 Special, and SENRAN KAGURA Peach Ball. We here at myPotatoGames wanted to show you Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, developed by Edelweiss, and combines side-scrolling action with deep crafting and farming simulation. The game is releasing on PS4 and PC this winter along with a newly announced Nintendo Switch version.

    About the Game

Players take on the role of Sakuna, a proud yet lonely harvest goddess who is banished to a dangerous island with a group of outcast humans. As she tames the island by defeating demons in gorgeous, mysterious natural settings, she will also find a home in a mountain village. This is where she will prove herself worthy of her title by harvesting rice and bettering the lives of humans. Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin has an emphasis on the artistry of cultivating rice, and the craft behind the agriculture.

    Sky: Children of Light

Sky: Children of Light was live from the stage of the E3 Coliseum today and we thought it looked so beautiful! Developed by thatgamecompany (the creators of Journey), this social adventure game is releasing on mobile devices for free this Fall. Furthermore, the game is getting an even earlier release for iOS this July which you can pre-order now. Other platforms such as PC and consoles will follow thereafter.

    About the Game

Join others to uncover mysteries of the desolate kingdom and team up to help recover and return the stars to their constellations. The game can be played with up to 8 players who can join a session through their smartphone or tablet. The co-founder discussed about how he wanted to make a game about friendship and compassion in hopes of creating a heartwarming online community where you need to collaborate. He also likens the world to a park with amazing views.

As always, stay tuned with us here for the latest E3 news as the day isn’t over yet! We’ll be posting about everything we know on Animal Crossing and more games you won’t want to miss!

Playtonic Games have just made a surprise announcement about their next project! They wanted to take a fresh approach to Yooka-Laylee and added new mechanics and gameplay to this brand new game! If you don’t already know about Yooka-Laylee in general, you can check out our last article about recent updates to the Nintendo Switch and PC versions. Now, we present to you Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, a wacky and adorable adventure and platforming game!

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair isn’t a direct sequel and the developers assure us that they still have plans for the future of the Yooka-Laylee universe. Also, David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, as well as Playtonic’s own in-house composers Dan Murdoch and Matt Griffin have worked together on another amazing soundtrack for this game! Take a look at the reveal trailer and read on to find out more.

There are 2D and 3D elements to Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair – so we hope you’ll find some joy! Also, don’t worry – we have always said we’d love to have another go at 3D platforming, but it wasn’t the right fit for our second project.

    Playtonic Games

Temtem is a MMO creature-collecting game heavily inspired by Pokemon and created by Crema, a studio based in Spain. The developers have ended their Kickstarter campaign back in July 2018 and are now in full production. You can get caught up on the basics of the game with us at myPotatoGames here. The game will be released digitally on all consoles and PC with no monthly subscriptions (online only). In addition, the creators intend to add cross-play with a cross-save option. See below for the latest blogs and updates.

    Digital Temtem and TemCards

A group of scientists, Professor Konstantinos, Tihani, Yareni, Nalla, Dr. Sasaya, and Dr. Hamijo, have been researching technology and Temtem. Together they created a new type of Temtem; Digital Temtem, a Crystal-Electric hybrid. Furthermore, by studying volcanic crystals, they also created TemCards; items capable of storing Temtem (essentially the Pokeball).

    Alpha Content Update 1

The first Alpha, available since April 2019, “Features the full first island, 30 Temtem, complete single-player mechanics (tamers, wild battles, catching and training Temtem, story, quests…), and basic multiplayer functionality (1v1 battles, chat, persistent online, seeing other players within the world…).” The Alpha updates will all be accessible to old and new backers. Meaning, a pre-order option is soon to come for the game and instant access to the Alpha (for Steam only).

    Aguamarina Caves

The Aguamarina Caves are a complex of caverns that run deep under the Thalassian Cliffs. The better known entrance is through the Sillaro River, but they’re so huge they even cross the whole cliffs and connect the river to the upper area of the Indigo lake.

The Caves have five different floors and they include a new gameplay feature: the crystal areas. We don’t want to spoil too much, so you’ll need to go ahead and discover it by yourself. The crystal areas affect how the player moves through the terrain and they will be very present along the whole Archipelago.

Right now the Caves are a totally optional area to explore and they don’t have too much in terms of interesting new Temtem or items. In the future we plan to re-populate them with some more Temtem so they will become the first area in the game where you will be able to obtain them. They will also hold a special and unique shrine you will be able to reach with the climbing equipment…

    House Interiors

One of the more prominent features missing from the current Alpha is the option to go inside the houses currently placed on Deniz. This ends today!

With this patch you will be able to visit the houses and talk with the people inside them. Houses are also usually something optional, but they add so much richness to the lore and the overall feeling of the game we wanted to include them as soon as possible.

You’ll notice some of the houses are still closed. These houses are “special” places that will open in future updates since they are related to some unavailable features right now. We added an Alpha sign to them so you will know where you can enter or not.

By the way, almost everything you see in the NPC houses will also be available to player housing. We’re doing everything as flexible as we can so everything works for the player’s houses too.

Alpha Content Update 2 and More

The developers are currently working on another huge content patch for the Alpha, which will includes:

    • a whole new Island (Omninesia)
    • new Temtem
    • several new features such as gameplay mechanics
    • new original soundtrack by Damian Sanchez

However, this second Alpha patch has been delayed a couple of months to approximately June 2019. Consequently, this will also delay the Early Access launch on Steam (estimated September 2019) as well as the final release of the game which was previously slated for May 2020.

For other Pokemon news, check out our articles on Pokemon Rumble Rush, Pokemon Sword and Shield, and an unnamed Pokemon mobile game.

The April dev. log for Ooblets reveals new features and improvements!

The recently updated dev log for Ooblets let us in on some in-depth details in regards to the progress of this eagerly awaited title! The dynamic duo of a dev team has been hard at work to make sure the game is as streamlined as possible before the still unknown release date. This adorable title has already gained quite the following, mostly for it’s uber-cute art style and ingenious minion system (the Ooblets).

In case you haven’t heard, Ooblets is an extremely adorable farming SIM/creature collection game in the style of such classics as Animal Crossing and Pokemon. Only in this game, you don’t need to necessarily catch your creatures, instead, you grow them in your awesome garden! Your little friends will help you do many things as you explore the expansive lands before you.

    The juicy deets….

The updated dev log for last month mentions a few choice improvements! First and foremost, as usual, bug fixes! All those nasty little critters are being sought out and corrected as we speak! There has also been the addition of a heads-up display (HUD) to make for easier access to your quests and tasks.

Also, a new special homebaby grow system makes it so that the Ooblets you leave on your farm will help them grow faster, depending on the attributes of the individual Oobs. This adorable feature is implemented through dance. Watch your Ooblets groove for the betterment of your ecosystem!

In this update, you can now keep much better track of your cutesy creatures with the addition of an almanac. This will simplify the process of knowing which ones you have, and which ones you still need to grow! These are just the key features of the update (from our perspective), for the full details on what’s new and what’s to come, hop on over to the dev log! For more information about this charming title, check out everything myPotatoGames has to say about Ooblets.

We’re not even halfway through the year and the games keep on coming! There have been quite a few announcements from us of indie projects in the making or with set release dates that you may have forgotten. We at myPotatoGames have compiled a list of our favorite games and most recent news with their dates and platforms so you can mark them on your calendars!

If you haven’t the time to play all of these wonderful titles, we’ve narrowed them done by categories so you can decide what you like the most in your games. Most games will fit in multiple categories but we’ve let you know where the main focus seems to lie.

    Games for Cat Lovers

We wanted to emphasize that there will be games where you can either be a cat or pet and play with cats. Most games below are about farming and exploring but cats will always get a special mention from us!

Games that are Remakes or Switch Ports

Many games are either being remade/remastered or simply being ported to the Nintendo Switch which is definitely still exciting. Rune Factory 4 Special for example was originally on the Nintendo 3DS and will be getting the new addition of the Newlywed Mode. Click on the links in the titles for more.

    Games for Zelda Fans

The Legend of Zelda may not be getting a new core game anytime soon but there are still great things in store with the series! Link’s Awakening, a remaster from the original Game Boy game, looks quite charming, and the Cadence of Hyrule spin-off is an interesting choice for a mash-up. Tunic, has a cute lovable fox that looks like Link and was heavily inspired by the series.

    Games with Monster/Creature Pets

If your favorite part about farming games are raising the animals or you like to be able to capture or befriend monsters/creatures, then these games are for you! In Ooblets, you get to actually “grow” said creatures in your garden.

    Games for Animal Crossing Fans

What makes an Animal Crossing game so great is all of its features combined with customization, decorating, and performing daily activities. However, what really stands out is its socializing aspect. In these games you will be able to interact with all of the townsfolk and make new friends!

    • Littlewood – May 2019 – PC and Nintendo Switch
    • Sunvale – TBD 2020 – PC, Linux, Mac, and potential for consoles
    • Hokko Life – TBD – PC and potential for Switch and mobile

    Games with Crafting/Building & Exploration

You might enjoy being able to build or create objects with items you have found by foraging and traversing wondrous landscapes. If so, check out the games below.

Games with a Large Focus on Farming

These games offer many things to do on your farmstead with crops and animals to care for. These are games similar to the ones we all love; Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons. However, Atomicrops has added the use of guns and fighting off mutants in your gardens so click below for details.

    Games with Platforming or Puzzles

Platform games have a lot of precisely-timed jumps and puzzles to solve to progress further in the levels. From Etherborn’s anti-gravity mechanic, to Super Mario Maker 2’s ability to create your own courses, these games all offer more than your average games in the genre.

    Games with Unique Twists

It’s a little harder to describe these games as they have combined elements and genres together to form quite a unique gaming experience. Untitled Goose Game is one such game where you play as an annoying goose, and sneak up and play mean tricks on villagers.

Hopefully you have found this guide helpful and don’t forget to click on the links provided for more information on every game. Stay tuned as we announce more new and exciting games coming our way!
