Snacko is a farming simulation game developed by an indie studio called bluecurse where you play as a cat! If you haven’t heard of this amazing game yet you can get caught up with us here. You’ll be able to farm, fish, cook, decorate, and recruit different animals to your island sometime in 2021 on PC and the Nintendo Switch. See below for bluecurse’s latest devblog for the newest developments in Snacko.

    Crafting

Crafting can be a lot of fun as you have to find recipes by talking to new characters and discovering new locations. That means there’s a lot of exploring to do! You can also find the required materials you need to build things around your farm and other areas outside. You can see in the image below that some items you can craft will be for cosmetic purposes so you can have fun decorating.

Other items will be very useful in helping you with your farming such as sprinklers for your crops, and a lamp to help you see at nighttime. Moreover, there seems to be tools that you need to craft to perform certain activities (i.e. fishing rod for fishing).

    Cooking

Cooking just became a lot more pleasant as not only do you follow recipes from a book but you can also experiment and your recipe book will record what you’ve learned! Furthermore, there are recipes that will require very specific food items to complete, such as tomatoes for tomato soup, and there will be recipes that are a little more general.

For example, to make a fruit tart you can choose any kind of fruit you want and any attribute that adds a “sweet” flavor. All consumables will have categories like vegetables or meats, as well as whether it tastes sweet, sour, etc. This way you can get a little more creative with your dishes as long as they meet the conditions listed.

    Camping Out

There will be four distinct islands asides from the main island which houses your farm and the town. Each new island you discover has its own puzzles, resources, monsters, and creatures. Since there is so much exploring to do, the developers have thought of a unique way that you can stay out for several days. Instead of having to return all the way back home, you only need to bring a few of this key item: cardboard boxes!

Cardboard boxes are the most comfortable beds to a cat as long as they stay dry. This means you will have to make sure you find an area that is covered or go inside caves. It’s easy to obtain them; get them for free from shops from time to time or check out the junkyard. Each box can be used for up to three times so it is important to stock up if you want to be out for a while.

    Seasons

There will be different weather or environmental effects on the other islands. Therefore, the developers are working on adding summer, fall, and winter to the game, which already included spring. As time passes you will get to see the environment change and have many lovely things to look at; spring has cherry blossoms and now fall will have colored leaves. In addition, notice in the image below how your character Momo has left behind some adorable little kitty footprints in the snow!

    Merchandise

The creators have started selling more merchandise from their online store here, and are providing their supporters with discount codes. New this month is the adorable keychains you can see below. You can also continue to support this game on Patreon and receive some interesting perks!

Want to know what else is new for the month of April on other games we’ve covered? Check out Calico (another game with cats), Alchemy Story (an adorable farming simulation game), and Ooblets (grow your own companions and “battle” by dancing).

Staxel, a farming and building simulation game developed by an indie studio called Studio Plukit, has just been fully released today (April 11th, 2019) on Steam and Humble Bundle. If you’re a fan of Minecraft, you’ll definitely enjoy these pixelated blocked-shaped graphics! You can check out our earlier coverage of the preview of the game here. Now, let’s look at what has changed since the completion of the game.

    Magic Crafting

A new Magic Crafting System has been added to upgrade your tools and help you with the progressing of certain quests. Watch out for Star Bits, an important new crafting item, that will be falling from the night sky!

    New Pets, New Friends

You can now speak to Mayor Maximilian to find out if any new villagers are waiting to move into town. You can befriend those villagers through daily chat, by giving them gifts, and by completing quests for them. Become best friends with the villagers and you can choose to have them move in on the farm and become your roommate! Speaking of friends, you can send mail and in-game currency to people online in multiplayer mode.

You’ll now be able to get this new dog at random as your starter pet at the beginning of the game, or at random by buying a dog house. Rabbits, a wholly new added species, are found at the pet store, or via a village amenity you’ll unlock by befriending a certain animal-loving villager.

    Museum

As you find ancient relics and paintings, you can display your collections in the all-new Museum. This museum can be unlocked via a quest with a particular blue villager. The Museum is yours to build and fill with wonderful art!

    The Museum

Festivals, Calendar Extension, and New Lands

Festivals are celebrated throughout the in-game year of Staxel. From hunting down rogue prank-playing fairies, to exploring vast new caverns full of loot, there’s a lot more to do besides farming in Staxel!

Throughout the game you’ll find new lands to visit, such as crystal caverns and floating mushrooms in the sky. Check out the new Portal Festival for these new worlds to explore.

Staxel in-game days are now longer so you can have more time to accomplish all of this adventuring! Each calendar season is now 30 days, instead of 16, to give you more time to experience the best that each season has to offer. Make sure to check your calendar to review the current season’s events.

    The crystal cavern

    Arcade

You need to befriend a certain game-loving villager so you can take part in some fun and challenging minigames in the Arcade. Enter a digital world and gather the 4 magic items of the Demon King’s maze as you try to escape. The developer assures us that there will be a lot of jumping and platforming involved.

Inside one of the challenges of the Arcade.

As for other updates, some tools, fishing, and the recipe book have been tweaked, special merchants added, status buffs and debuffs, a picture-taking mode, among other minor changes. Follow the developers blog for more information! For more farming games, check out our latest news on Ooblets here.

We’re not even halfway through the year and the games keep on coming! There have been quite a few announcements from us of indie projects in the making or with set release dates that you may have forgotten. We at myPotatoGames have compiled a list of our favorite games and most recent news with their dates and platforms so you can mark them on your calendars!

If you haven’t the time to play all of these wonderful titles, we’ve narrowed them done by categories so you can decide what you like the most in your games. Most games will fit in multiple categories but we’ve let you know where the main focus seems to lie.

    Games for Cat Lovers

We wanted to emphasize that there will be games where you can either be a cat or pet and play with cats. Most games below are about farming and exploring but cats will always get a special mention from us!

Games that are Remakes or Switch Ports

Many games are either being remade/remastered or simply being ported to the Nintendo Switch which is definitely still exciting. Rune Factory 4 Special for example was originally on the Nintendo 3DS and will be getting the new addition of the Newlywed Mode. Click on the links in the titles for more.

    Games for Zelda Fans

The Legend of Zelda may not be getting a new core game anytime soon but there are still great things in store with the series! Link’s Awakening, a remaster from the original Game Boy game, looks quite charming, and the Cadence of Hyrule spin-off is an interesting choice for a mash-up. Tunic, has a cute lovable fox that looks like Link and was heavily inspired by the series.

    Games with Monster/Creature Pets

If your favorite part about farming games are raising the animals or you like to be able to capture or befriend monsters/creatures, then these games are for you! In Ooblets, you get to actually “grow” said creatures in your garden.

    Games for Animal Crossing Fans

What makes an Animal Crossing game so great is all of its features combined with customization, decorating, and performing daily activities. However, what really stands out is its socializing aspect. In these games you will be able to interact with all of the townsfolk and make new friends!

    • Littlewood – May 2019 – PC and Nintendo Switch
    • Sunvale – TBD 2020 – PC, Linux, Mac, and potential for consoles
    • Hokko Life – TBD – PC and potential for Switch and mobile

    Games with Crafting/Building & Exploration

You might enjoy being able to build or create objects with items you have found by foraging and traversing wondrous landscapes. If so, check out the games below.

Games with a Large Focus on Farming

These games offer many things to do on your farmstead with crops and animals to care for. These are games similar to the ones we all love; Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons. However, Atomicrops has added the use of guns and fighting off mutants in your gardens so click below for details.

    Games with Platforming or Puzzles

Platform games have a lot of precisely-timed jumps and puzzles to solve to progress further in the levels. From Etherborn’s anti-gravity mechanic, to Super Mario Maker 2’s ability to create your own courses, these games all offer more than your average games in the genre.

    Games with Unique Twists

It’s a little harder to describe these games as they have combined elements and genres together to form quite a unique gaming experience. Untitled Goose Game is one such game where you play as an annoying goose, and sneak up and play mean tricks on villagers.

Hopefully you have found this guide helpful and don’t forget to click on the links provided for more information on every game. Stay tuned as we announce more new and exciting games coming our way!

myPotatoGames is a project created out of love for laid back, relaxing and none violent video games with a deep, deep love for Animal Crossing. We feel that a lot of big video game news websites are too ” cool ” to be covering the games we love so much. We wanted to create a hub for games like Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Ooblets, Minekos Night Market, and so many other games that often don’t get the spotlight they deserve.

While this project is mainly founded out of the passion and love for those video games, we still have a lot of costs to cover to keep running the website with all it’s services. Of course we are running some banner ads, but most people do not even remember the last time they have clicked on one of those! Joining a Patreon and expressing your support for what we do is not only extremely humbling, but it will also help us keep the website going. We have recently upgraded our servers to accommodate the increasing traffic that we are receiving, you may have noticed how quickly myPotatoGames loads now, yay for that! This was only possible because of everyones support.

If you love what we do, and would like to go an extra step to help us, then you may join our Patreon, where we do cool monthly giveaways for all our Patrons! You may also check out our Animal Crossing Sticker Pack, where you can have your villager turned into an actual sticker pack.

Thank you so much for all your support, for coming to visit myPotatoGames as often as you do, and for making us your go to destination for the games you love! If you would like to get in touch with us, shoot us an e-mail ( [email protected] ) or message us on our Facebook page. We are always happy to to receive a question, or just come to say Hi! We love a good chat as well 🙂

    Thank You
