XSEEDGames is currently working on translating Story of Seasons Friend Of Mineral Town into English for an upcoming release in the West

About Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town

Story of Seasons Reunion in Mineral Town “is a complete remake” of the beloved Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town Game Boy Advance title.

XSEEDGames said “that it will let series fans revisit the charming world of Mineral Town, while also introducing it to a new generation of farmers. In this peaceful setting, players will grow crops, take care of animals, and build relationships with villagers.”

    Story of Seasons Western Release

story of seasons friends of mineral town

The Japanese version of the game released many months ago back in 2019, fans in the west are still patiently ( or eagerly ) waiting for an English release. Today XSEEDGames informed people via Twitter that:

“Our team is hard at work on the English edition of Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town! We have not confirmed the release date, but we will be able to post more details once we are a bit further along.”

    Twitter @XSEEDGames

While there is no release date yet, the translation process has been underway for several months now. The first release window XSEEDGames provided was Holiday 2019 which we all know did not happen.

A release in Spring / Summer 2020 now seems to be likely, we will have to wait for XSEEDGames to reveal more details!

In Littlewood, you get to fully customize your town. This doesn’t just include building homes for townsfolk, plotting farming areas, furnishing your home AND the townsfolk’s homes, but it also includes customizing the elevation of the land and choosing where to put bodies of water. This interesting element of customizing the terrain brings an extra touch to making the town your own.

With 2019 coming to a close, I wanted to take a moment to look back at all of the amazing games I’ve played and reviewed this year. I’d also like to give a special thanks to the developers and publishers that have supplied me with codes and gave me the chance to experience some real indie gems! There have been many awards given this past month, however I just wanted to highlight some wholesome games that I have spent a large amount of time playing.

Let’s start with farming sims because, for me, this category was the hardest one to narrow down to a select few because it is arguably my favorite genre and there were so many great indie games to go through!

    Alchemy Story

Created by solo developer Éloïse Laroche, this adorable art style caught my attention immediately from little chicks with bow ties to the happiest cows wearing bells. Alchemy Story is about saving the many villagers that have been cursed by a witch and using all of your skills as an alchemist to turn them from animals into humans again! This game has been on Steam Early Access since August 22nd, 2019 and continues to receive regular updates such as new characters and customization options.

    Littlewood

This adorable game with small pixels but huge heart, is all about making friends and having them move into your town. What I find most interesting about the town is how much you can make it your own by changing the elevation of the ground, placing your own paths and ponds, and much more! Created by sole developer Sean Young, this game has been on Steam since June and continues to grow with new features such as mini-games and pets! It has also been confirmed that this game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

    Staxel

Staxel is a voxel-style building game developed by Plukit and published by Humble Bundle. I played this game on Steam back in April and loved building homes for my villagers brick-by-brick. You can create anything you can imagine with blocks such as chicken coops, tool sheds, flowerbeds, and more! Also, the stores are really adorable to shop in and the workshops make creating things fun!

    Garden Paws

What can I say about Garden Paws that hasn’t already been said? I have spent the most amount of hours on this game on Steam that I have ever spent on a farming sim. It has everything from several quests, crafting/building, exploration, taming pets, farm animals, running a shop, fishing, mining, and more!

It’s hard to sum up everything I love about this adorable game and the creators keep adding more things to do with more islands, creatures, dungeons, festivals/events, and items that keep me returning to the world of Florens.

There are many other farming sims on my radar for the future, mainly Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, Doraemon Story of Seasons, Rune Factory 5, and basically anything I’ve talked about here. There are some games I have yet to finish, or at least play more of, like Re:Legend and Stranded Sails, and games like Stardew Valley that have such large new updates, they might as well be sequels! Stay tuned for my next category for another list of games I’ve played this year.

Classic Harvest Moon games are the foundation of most of the farming games we enjoy today. Since the original creator of Harvest Moon moved on to create Story of Seasons, many other developers try to capture the magic the original farming games had. Farm Folks is one of the games that succeeded in doing so.

More than 1500 backers pledged over 90.000 AUD to bring this project to life via Kickstarter. The farming simulation / RPG game lets players grow crops raise livestock, build relationship go on journeys and so much more. The game throws you right into an adventure, as it starts out by sailing on a boat gifted to you by our generous brother. The destination is finding your true purpose in life.

The tides turn quickly as the main character of the game will find himself caught up in a vicious storm. The waves, wind and rain turn your beautiful boat into nothing but few pieces of wood, washed ashore the player will have to start a whole new life on the shores of Softshoal island – the main location in the game.

From here on it is up to the player to build a new life. You will start to meet the citizen of the island who will guide and help you through this new adventure. Of course it wouldn’t be a Harvest Moon inspired game if there wasn’t farming, there are more than 60 juice, delicious crops you can grow – water, harvest eat and sell them!

Besides the traditional farming, players will also be able to enjoy, fishing and adventuring. One of the cutest aspects of the game are the adorable animals you can raise and take care of.

Farm Folks is currently available for PC in its early stage. The developers plan to release the game on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch afterwards. Check out the cute gameplay trailer for Farm Folks below!

You can wishlist Farm Folks on Steam right here.

For more Farming games make sure to check out Alchemy Story, and the recently confirmed Story of Season for Nintendo Switch.

    Farm Folks Features

    • It wouldn’t be much of a farming simulator without farming, would it? Farm Folks features the time-tested farming mechanic in which players can purchase or forage seeds and begin to grow their farm into a bountiful and rewarding resource.
    • it’s our goal to introduce somewhere around 60 juicy crops for our players to rake in that sweet, sweet digital profit. Crops and other grow-ables will be divided into 4 categories – spring, summer, fall, and winter. This means certain crops can only be grown in specific times of the year, read more on farming below.
    • Animals are an important part of any world, giving the land life and personality. Plus, they’re just dang cute! The animals and critters of Farm Folks are a big part of our game, and we want to make sure that the player feels a strong bond with their pets and livestock.
    • Otto, the local fisherman of Port Meridia, would call it a crime if you couldn’t bait your rod and cast it to the blue in a place like this! Fishing is one of the most relaxing activities in Softshoal, and a popular pastime in Port Meridia thanks to the surrounding seas and rivers.

Fields of Mistria is a 2D farming and life simulation RPG currently in early stages of development. The developers say they were inspired by titles such as Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, and Rune Factory. Therefore, Fields of Mistria is definitely on our radar. The game will initially be for PC, but other ports are a possibility as the development of Fields of Mistria continues. See below for what we know so far!

    About Fields of Mistria

You’ve arrived to this region ready to start a new life after learning of an unusual opportunity. The village of Mistria, tucked between forest and sea, has offered a generous plot of land to any capable adventurer willing to help rebuild and defend it after an earthquake causes widespread damage and unseals ancient monster-filled ruins nearby.

    Key Features

    • Create your character with dozens of customization options.
    • Farm, Fish, Mine & Craft your way to revitalized town.
    • Follow the storylines of 30+ townspeople.
    • Defeat monsters and discover treasures as you explore ancient ruins and uncover the secrets of the town’s past.
    • Find your ideal match and start a family with one of 10 possible marriage candidates.

    Marriage Candidates

On the official website here, we get our first look at the concept art of two characters that we have the option to marry in-game; Celine and Balor. Celine loves nature, gardening, and studying plants, whilst Balor is a rogue-turned-merchant with a mysterious past! We here at myPotatoGames are excited to see what other characters the development team have in store.

    Concept Illustrations

Looking at the beautiful artwork by artist Matt Cummings, makes us anxious to start our adventure and discover all of these intriguing locations! Anyone else getting Claude Monet vibes from these images? Because we’re really digging the impressionism paintings here. Although the gameplay itself will be designed with a pixel art-style, we still think we’re in good hands.

You can follow Fields of Mistria on their Twitter page here as they share their progress. About a week ago, we gave a sneak peek at the final bachelor (male marriage candidate) in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. Though not officially revealed to us by Marvelous, a screenshot of ‘Brandon’ came out at the ChinaJoy convention. Brandon and the final bachelorette…a brand new character…have now been officially revealed! You may now formally be introduced to Brandon and Jennifer. (Names not final until localizer XSEED confirms them.)

Mystery candidates no longer a mystery!

Brandon is an artist (and seems to specialise in wood sculpting) and a brand new character to this remake, not in the original Friends of Mineral Town. Jennifer is a wandering artist who wants to be in tune with nature. Perhaps for that reason, her home appears to be a tent. Will she find a permanent home in your town? At the very least, we believe she is a free-spirited young woman who lives at her own pace.

Marvelous Japan also put up a new trailer where these two new candidates and various other new things were shown. It’s in Japanese, but sharp-eyed viewers have still managed to spot lots of interesting things in it, such as upgraded tools and what looks to be the chocolate cow wandering around in the barn, and many other things. You can see the video right here!

    The full line-up

And with this, all known candidates have been revealed. The line-up of candidate silhouettes Marvelous showed us at the beginning has now been filled in.

It is unknown as of yet if the ‘secret’ candidates in ‘More Friends of Mineral Town’, Gourmet, Kappa and Won, will be returning as marriage options in this remake. At the current time, it seems that they are not. Up until now we only saw a very quick, blurry image of Kappa, now sporting a beret and long hair. We did, however, get a very quick (and tiny!) look at Won at the end of the video. A screenshot of Gourmet was also recently uploaded to Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Towns official (Japanese) site.

And a few other characters, too

Also revealed on the official site are villagers Gotz, a carpenter, and Zack, who in the original Friends of Mineral Town, took care of of shipping your goods for you. He also gave you your first fishing rod! We wonder if events will follow the same path in this remake.

Did you spot anything intriguing when watching the video or perusing the official site? We’d love to hear about anything that caught your interest!

If you’re looking forward to Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that Doraemon: Story of Seasons will be out on October 11th.
