“The three themes of Animal Crossing: family, friendship, and community” – Katsuya Eguchi (The “Father” of Animal Crossing”)
PAX East 2019 was last weekend and on Sunday there was an Animal Crossing panel. The panel was called “18 Years of Animal Crossing: A Look Back” and was run by 3 members of Nintendo-Insider.
The panel began with an explanation of the people running the panel and a brief description of what the Animal Crossing game entails.
During the explanation of the series, they mentioned the colorful cast of characters and it instantly felt like a walk down memory lane. Talking about how Tom Nook gives out no interest loans to the players and how he should be respected more. K.K. Slider and how people sometimes time travel to catch his show because it’s just that important.
At about 16 minutes into the panel, it became really interesting. They delved into the timeline of Animal Crossing with in-depth information about the series: how many copies sold, localization info, new content in each version, the more technical information (like how GameCube had the first e-reader cartridge). It was also very interesting to see the trailer for each game one after the other to see how it has evolved over the years.
At 47 minutes, the panel goes into the future of Animal Crossing regarding the 2019 Switch release.
Listed below is the speculation discussed at the panel. Please note, these are theories and not official information regarding the 2019 game:
It was nice to have a walk down memory lane and hear the history of this amazing series. Here’s to hoping that there will be some major announcements at E3 in June for our beloved series! Stay tuned to MyPotatoGames for more Animal Crossing Switch news. Happy Gaming!

We’re not even halfway through the year and the games keep on coming! There have been quite a few announcements from us of indie projects in the making or with set release dates that you may have forgotten. We at myPotatoGames have compiled a list of our favorite games and most recent news with their dates and platforms so you can mark them on your calendars!
If you haven’t the time to play all of these wonderful titles, we’ve narrowed them done by categories so you can decide what you like the most in your games. Most games will fit in multiple categories but we’ve let you know where the main focus seems to lie.
We wanted to emphasize that there will be games where you can either be a cat or pet and play with cats. Most games below are about farming and exploring but cats will always get a special mention from us!
Many games are either being remade/remastered or simply being ported to the Nintendo Switch which is definitely still exciting. Rune Factory 4 Special for example was originally on the Nintendo 3DS and will be getting the new addition of the Newlywed Mode. Click on the links in the titles for more.
The Legend of Zelda may not be getting a new core game anytime soon but there are still great things in store with the series! Link’s Awakening, a remaster from the original Game Boy game, looks quite charming, and the Cadence of Hyrule spin-off is an interesting choice for a mash-up. Tunic, has a cute lovable fox that looks like Link and was heavily inspired by the series.
If your favorite part about farming games are raising the animals or you like to be able to capture or befriend monsters/creatures, then these games are for you! In Ooblets, you get to actually “grow” said creatures in your garden.
What makes an Animal Crossing game so great is all of its features combined with customization, decorating, and performing daily activities. However, what really stands out is its socializing aspect. In these games you will be able to interact with all of the townsfolk and make new friends!
You might enjoy being able to build or create objects with items you have found by foraging and traversing wondrous landscapes. If so, check out the games below.
These games offer many things to do on your farmstead with crops and animals to care for. These are games similar to the ones we all love; Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons. However, Atomicrops has added the use of guns and fighting off mutants in your gardens so click below for details.
Platform games have a lot of precisely-timed jumps and puzzles to solve to progress further in the levels. From Etherborn’s anti-gravity mechanic, to Super Mario Maker 2’s ability to create your own courses, these games all offer more than your average games in the genre.
It’s a little harder to describe these games as they have combined elements and genres together to form quite a unique gaming experience. Untitled Goose Game is one such game where you play as an annoying goose, and sneak up and play mean tricks on villagers.
Hopefully you have found this guide helpful and don’t forget to click on the links provided for more information on every game. Stay tuned as we announce more new and exciting games coming our way!

Now you’ll have to excuse us for wishing the year away. But following on from the announcement of a certain much awaited Switch game, we decided it would be nice to compile a list of all the games of 2019 that we are very much looking forward to playing.
Ikenfell is a JRPG game which utilizes turn-based and timing-based battle mechanics. The game’s publisher is Humble Bundle, and its platforms are PC, Mac and possibly Linux. Humble Bundle are helping to polish the game, market it, and will hopefully add it to Steam in 2019. It was hoped that the game would be released this year, but the developers recently announced the postponing of it until next year. This is because they want to deliver a top-quality, flawless game, and would rather development took a little longer to achieve this, as opposed to rushing the game and compromising its quality.
Mineko’s Night Market is a cute cat-themed upcoming game for PC, Mac and Switch by Meowza games. You play as Mineko, a girl who has just moved to a superstitious island overrun with cats. The aim of the game is to find materials, craft items and sell them at the Night Market. You can befriend villagers, fish, undertake quests, play mini-games, plus more! Whilst it was initially hoped that the game would be released in late 2018, its release has now been pushed back until 2019.
Kingdom Hearts III is an upcoming action RPG game that is being developed and published by Square Enix. The game will initially be released for PS4 and Xbox One. Kingdom Hearts III is set in an array of Disney and Pixar worlds. The game features Sora, a young boy and unknowing heir to a spectacular power. Sora is accompanied by popular Disney characters such as Donald Duck and Goofy who attempt to stop an evil force known as the Heartless from invading and taking over.
Super Mario Bros U was one of the top games released for the WiiU. Like Mario Kart 8, the game has got the Deluxe treatment and will soon be making its way to the popular Switch console. Choose to play as Mario, Luigi or Toad, or as Nabbit and Toadette, who also feature in the game. The ‘New Super Luigi U’ WiiU game expansion comes included in the Switch’s deluxe version.
After the wait became almost unbearable, Nintendo nonchalantly confirmed Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch during their recent Nintendo Direct. Whilst not much information about game content is known yet, the game is set to be released in 2019.
Whilst we await more information about the game, here’s a meme to entertain you:
Yoshi’s Crafted World (formerly known by it’s working title of ‘Yoshi’) is an upcoming side-scrolling platform game for Nintendo Switch. It was announced at E3 2017, and is set to be released in Spring 2019. Like prior Yoshi games, players can use Yoshi’s tongue to eat enemies or other objects, turn them into eggs, or throw them outwardly into the level. The game features 3D characters on a 2D plane and allows players to view the game from two opposing viewpoints.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is an upcoming platform-adventure Metroidvania game. It is being developed by Moon Studios, published by Microsoft (for Windows and Xbox One), and will hopefully be released at some point in 2019. The game is a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2015 game Ori and the Blind Forest. The story is based on a new adventure where Ori seeks to discover the world beyond the forest of Nibel, uncover the truths of the lost ones, and unearth his true destiny.
