I love cats. I also enjoy both mystery and adventure games. In the upcoming Peace Island, we get an alluring combination of all of these things. Currently in development by Eric Blumrich and a small team of experienced devs (known for games like Prune and Grand Theft Auto V), this game is already gathering attention online.
About Peace Island:
You’ll play as cats! Starting out, you’ll be playing as the cat named Elizabeth. The day before, she was was coaxed into her pet taxi and dreading a trip to the veterinarian. She never sees the vet, though, instead falling asleep. When she awakes the next day, her human is nowhere to be found and the door is open.
Throughout the game, you will meet 8 other cats. You’ll need to gain the trust of these cats and eventually gain their friendship. At different points, you will control each of the different cats. Each one has unique strengths, weaknesses, and roles.
The world of Peace Island – outside from being Peace Island – is an open-world based on real-life Maine. Inside the island are 4 defined communities. These are Peace City Landing, Greenwood Farms, Ellison Heights, and LaFlamme Fishworks. These are settlements, farmlands, coastlines, woodlands, and more!
The story of the game is that the humans have all gone missing. The mystery is plentiful. There are an invasive species on the islands, artifacts and documents left behind, and 200 years worth of alternate history to unravel. Not only do you have to figure out what happened to the humans, you have to use the divergent storylines to decide if they are worth bringing back.
Game Features:
- Cooperate – You’ll have to gain the trust and build friendships with the other cats. You’re going to need them!
- Discover – It’s up to you to find and piece together all the evidence.
- Explore – The open-world is huge and scattered with lots of details.
- Infiltrate – To solve the mystery, you’re going to have to get inside the buildings. It may take more skill to find a way into some of them.
Peace Island is currently in development for PC, Mac, and Oculus VR. There is no set release date, yet, but a beta should be coming soon. You can check out more and support the game on Patreon. You can also see daily screenshots on Twitter.

Developed by Peachy Keen Games and published by Whitethorn Digital. Calico is a magical, relaxed and family-friendly simulation game where players are given an opportunity to run their very own cat cafe.
The game is expected to be released on Steam at some point during Summer 2020. The game will most likely release on the following platforms shortly afterwards:
- Nintendo Switch
- PlayStation 4
- Xbox One
- macOS
- Macintosh operating systems
About Calico
Calico came about due to the game developer’s obsession with cats, magical girls and fluffy animals. However, wanting to create a game that would appeal to everyone, she also included creatures such as lizards, birds, deer, raccoons, dogs, turtles, red pandas, foxes, etc.
She then shares about how she wanted to publish a game that would make players feel ‘soft, happy, cuddly and cozy’. If that wasn’t wholesome enough, she has said in an interview that she just wanted to create a game where the only goal is to have the best time possble.
However, simply running the cat cafe is not the only things that players can do. The game also incorporates enjoyable aspects from other popular gaming franchises such as Animal Crossing. Similarities between Calico and Animal Crossing include the simulation aspects of both games, and the ability to place furnitire and decorations in your buildings. A perk about Calico however, is that the animals will not leave, the shop never closes, and crops never die.
Calico Key Features
- As all animals are interactive, players can explore the village to find cats and other animals, including raccoons, deer, dogs, turtles, red pandas, foxes, lizards, etc. The animals can be befriended, petted and played with
- Players can ride on giant cats ( as you do? ?)
- Run your café by filling it with animals, furniture and yummy café eats!
- Use magic potions to change your animals and environment
- Meet magical girls, witches and other townspeople who you can help and befriend
According to the Steam Website, Calico won’t playable until at least Summer 2020. However, there’s no need to be disappointed, as you can play these cat-themed games in the meantime to tide you over 🙂

Mineko’s Night Market is an upcoming cat-themed crafting adventure game that celebrates Japanese culture and is essentially about friendship, choices, and of course, cats. The indie game is being developed by Meowza Games, and being published by Humble Bundle, who will also publish upcoming games Forager and Ikenfell.
The exact date for the games release is yet to be determined, though the creator mentioned that it may possibly be early this year. I thought I’d provide everyone with a detailed article on everything we know about this cute cat-filled creation!
What is the game about?
Playing as Mineko, a girl who has moved to a superstitious fishing town inundated with cats, you will uncover secrets whilst assiting Mineko in becoming a successful young entrepreneur. This can be done by completing tasks, undertaking quests and gathering resources in preparation for the weekly night market.
Players can craft a variety of odd items, toys, and trinkets, which can then be sold to townsfolk (who are now your customers) at Mineko’s night market stall. After you’ve finished selling your items, you can explore the Night Market yourself, where you can play mini-games, eat unusual foods, and purchase collectibles.
The game allows you to explore distant lands by unlocking different types of transport (which include buses, bullet trains and cat carts). Each land offers new people to meet and unique things to do, dependent on the time of day and season.
There are 16 uniquely themed markets every year which all feature a stage event that you can partake in. Examples of events include Taiko drumming, karaoke competitions, sumo suit wrestling, and more!
The better you perform at the market, the bigger and better the market will become, which may well attract new townsfolk and even celebrity guests!

As many of you may have gathered by now, I’m a bit of a feline fanatic. Having procured a Switch console this year, I have been meaning to make a cat-themed Switch game listicle for a while. Having finally gotten around to it, here you have it; Nine Nintendo Switch Games For Cat Lovers. (Nine because nine lives)
Calico
This project started with a love for magical girls, cats, and a want to create a game that’s light, pink, cute, fluffy, and feminine. It also incorporates everything that’s enjoyable from a simulation game like Animal Crossing (furniture, decorations) but the animals will not leave/die, the shop will never close and the crops will not rot. The objective of the game is to make the town’s cat café active and full of cuddly creatures again such as cats, deer, raccoons, dogs, turtles, red pandas, foxes and more! Cat Quest
Cat Quest is an open world, action adventure RPG set in a world of cats, developed by The Gentlebros. The Cat Quest page on the Nintendo website (which is full of cat puns) explains how your player’s sister is kidnapped and you therefore embark on a journey to save her from the evil Drakoth. Available for only £9.99 on the Nintendo eShop, Cat Quest for Switch is a purr-chase your bank account won’t hate you for!
Cat Quest II
Cat Quest II is an upcoming open world RPG where you play as both a cat and a dog (hisss!). Explore an extensive world filled with monsters, dungeons and quests as you restore peace to your kingdoms in a time of war. This forthcoming feline follow-up will be released on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Android, iOS, and Windows.
Snacko
Snacko is a farming simulation game developed by an indie studio called bluecurse, based in Vancover, BC, Canada. The founders, husband and wife Jordan and Erisa, wanted to create a world “where cats rule the land” and so the project began in 2018. Snacko is expected to release sometime in the year 2021 for PC and Nintendo Switch. Get some more news on this cat-tactic game!
BlobCat
In BlobCat you are tasked with the job of protecting the DiceMice from the naive BlobCats. With more than 90 different levels spanning over 6 worlds, Place arrows and guide the Dicemice to the Micehole! With local and online multiplayer, you and up to 3 other players can attempt to outsmart each other and send the BlobCats a-calling. The game costs a reasonable £8.99 to download from the Nintendo eShop.
Night In The Woods
Night in the Woods is an autumnal themed indie adventure game. Highly relatable to many, the game shows the crumbling former mining town of Possum Springs. After the protagonist, Mae Borowski drops out of college and returns to her hometown, she finds things as gloomy and hopeless as ever. But this time there’s something more. Strange and eery occurrences are happening. And there’s something in the woods. This charming game with beautiful music can be purchased for only £17.09 on the Switch eShop.
I and Me
I and Me is a platform puzzle game developed by Chinese studio Wish Fang and published by Ratalaika Games. It was released for Nintendo Switch in Japan and PAL regions on July 6, 2017 and in North America on July 13, 2017. Controlling two cats simultaneously, the objective of the game is to get them both safely to the end of each level. Whilst initially fairly easy, having two characters perform exactly the same action makes it increasingly more difficult to complete the game’s 92 levels. With a soothing soundtrack and four season-themed chapters, the game is pretty affordable at £8.99
Mineko’s Night Market (upcoming)
Mineko’s Night Market is a cute cat-themed upcoming game for PC, Mac and Switch by Meowza games. You play as Mineko, a girl who has just moved to a superstitious island overrun with cats. The aim of the game is to find materials, craft items and sell them at the Night Market. You can befriend villagers, fish, undertake quests, play mini-games, plus more! Whilst it was initially hoped that the game would be released in late 2018, its release has now been pushed back until 2020.
Little Friends: Dogs & Cats
Little Friends: Dogs & Cats is a pet simulation game for Nintendo Switch. The Nintendogs-esque game is set to be released in Japan on 6th December. The game allows players to reside and play with cats and dogs with “lifelike models, textures, expressions, and animations.”
Spacecats with Lasers
Spacecats with Lasers is a cat-themed casual combat game. Help your Spacecat eliminate the Evil Space Rats and defeat the Pug King in this wild wave-shooter game. With plenty of perks and power-ups, plus the ability to customise your cat with items unlocked on your journey, you can have both a fashionable and fierce feline fighter. Whether you prefer a calmer cat caper, or want a “nerve-wracking bullet hell”, the game’s different difficulty options have you covered.
After going through all of these, I realized there are eleven, looks like this cat found some extra lives. 😀

Snacko is expected to release sometime in the year 2021 for PC and Nintendo Switch.
We here at myPotatoGames obviously can’t get enough of cat games so the game Snacko, where you play as cat, is the purr-fect game to talk about! Who doesn’t love those furry, squishy, soft, adorable balls of fluff! On the Island of Snacko, where a terrible event happened, corrupting the native creatures and causing the inhabitants to leave, it is up to you to find the source of the evil and bring the land back to life.
Features
- Classic farming sim gameplay: farm, fish, cook, and craft!
- Customize your farmland: craft different types of fences, storage units, and more. Use these objects to spruce up your plot of land.
- Customize your town: choose from a variety of exterior styles for houses, decorate with different items your villagers could interact with.
- Recruit a variety of villagers: send out letters to seek help in rebuilding the island. Based on what you write, different types of animals will reply. Who will you choose to move in?

Plantera is a farming-style clicker game that was released in 2016 by indie developer, VaragtP. With a “Very Positive” rating and over 3,000 reviews on Steam, it is easy to see why the developer has announced plans for a Plantera 2. Once finding out about this, myPotatoGames approached the developer to find out more information about the popular indie game sequel.
There is not much known about Plantera 2 as of yet but there are some adorable screenshots to help give an idea of what to expect. As of now, there are two animals that have been officially announced in the game. These two animals include an adorable round cat that throws up hairballs and fuzzy pink llamas that drop fur.
Excited for the new animals, myPotatoGames seeked out more information from the developer. @VaragtP told us that Plantera 2 will consist of about double the animals and plants as the first game. There will also be a new category of items and a big tree that will grow during gameplay and give a new kind of currency to use for plantation upgrades.

About the game:
Hunter’s Legacy: Purrfect Edition is yet another feline-themed Switch title. The game, which is described by its developer (Lienzo) as a Metroidvania adventure, is set in an exciting fantasy world filled with fierce foes. The game was released on the Switch eShop on 13th December for just $6.99.
Play and control Ikki, a heroic huntress cat with twin swords (are claws not enough?!), a bow, and magical abilities, in an attempt to save the Kingdom of Iripur from the evil Morodir in this action-filled 2D Platformer.
The original Hunter’s Legacy game was released on xBox, PlayStation, and Steam, where it received mixed reviews. Common complaints with the original included:
- A lack of ore (which is required for upgrades)
- An uneven distribution of ore
- The villain and Fang of Alliance aren’t explained
- Ikki seems unfairly disadvantaged due to her inadequate weaponry, which kinda ruins the gameplay experence for some (or in the words of a reviewer on Steam) ‘I know kitties with bows and swords can be cute but this one needs a machine gun badly.’
- Inconsistent difficulty spikes
Hunter’s Legacy: Purrfect Edition is a definitive, improved version of the original game, exclusive to Nintndo Switch.
Hunter’s Legacy: Purrfect Edition features:
- New story sequences
- Additional character dialogues
- New animations
- Updated level design
- A brand new mini-map feature
- Improved melee combat
- A new game plus mode
Despite these added and improved features, the game levels still lack variety and there are still inconsistent difficulty spikes.
My Purr-sonal Opinion
Story:
Ikki, who is also known as the Heroic Huntress of Un’Amak, embarks on a quest in aid of the Iripur, a race of anthropomorphised cat people who have had their Fang of Alliance stolen by the evil Morodir. In order to restore peace, Ikki must locate three sacred orbs to unlock Morodir’s barrier and then retrieve the Fang of Alliance. As you encounter glowing rocks throughout the game, you will be given insight into the game’s backstory
The introduction to the game is kept very brief, with just a few cutscenes (which are shown below) that don’t provide a lot of context. Additionally, I found the narrative to be quite cliche.
Gameplay:
The controls of the game are pretty simple. The arrow keys on your right joy-con will trigger Ikki’s moves, which include bow and arrow, sword, dodge-roll, plus more as you progress through the game, which is approximately 5 hours in length. As moves are triggered by the press of a single button, and that most of those buttons were attack moves, I appreciated that I didn’t have to fumble to fight foes.
The inventory in the game is great, as it’s de-cluttered and allows you to look at the entire world map. This map shows your current location, your destination, possible fast travel locations and where any chests in Ikki’s vicinity are located.
There are some tricky boss fights and challenging situations to face, which is something that a few critics say can be a rage-quitting factor. However, I really enjoyed it and very much felt like it was the sort of game where you could come home at the end of the day and play a game that doesn’t require too much thought. Additionally, players get a sense of fulfilment from unlocking new abilities, surely making the frustration worth it. Ultimately, it’s important to remember that despite certain parts being difficult, the game is not impossible to complete, and that save points are pretty frequent.
Graphics and Sound:
I really enjoyed the cute Metroidvania art style used in the game. Although subtle, there are design changes such as new animations for some characters. Additionally the game’s levels have been designed to be more fluid.
Owing to my weird sense of humour, I also liked Ikki’s variety of facial expressions, of which I may have made memes out of (sorry not sorry)

I found that the Switch version of the game ran very smoothly, and was a definite improvement to the PC version, which has been criticised for its framerate.
Additionally, in my opinion, there were no obvious visual differences between playing in handheld mode and playing in console mode.
I found the game’s soundtrack rather soothing and well-matched to the game’s environment. Initially, I really enjoyed Ikki’s cat noises (during combat, when attacked etc). However, as painful as it is for me say due to being a cat lover, these noises become darn annoying after a while. This is a sentiment shared by many who have played the original game.
Confession: I do still find the hissing amusing though.
To conclude, Hunter’s Legacy: Purrfect Edition is an affordable cat-themed Metroidvania game will alluring graphics and music. I’d definitely reccommend it to feline fans and those who like platformer games. However, whilst I do feel that the game is pretty and worth its retail price, it is let down by its limited context and narrative, and can be unfairly difficult at times. I feel inclined to agree with reviewers who have said that it doesn’t really offer anything new to the already quite saturated adventure-platformer gaming industry. However, it’s a pretty aesthetic game, and how can you not like a game with cats?
