Pumpkins. The latest Animal Crossing: New Horizons update allows players to plant, grow and harvest pumpkins. This allows players to create some awesome, authentic-looking little pumpkin patches! In addition to this, pumpkins are essential to craft the new Halloween-themed items. To lend fellow fans a hand, here is a quick guide on how to grow pumpkins in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Pumpkin starts are purchasable from the cabinet inside of Nook’s Cranny for 280 bells each. Alternatively, when Leif visits, he sells them a bit cheaper at 140 bells a pop.
You can plant pumpkin starts by standing on an empty piece of land, opening your inventory, and then planting the starts.
Alternatively, you can dig a hole with your shovel and then open your inventory to plant the starts.
Tip: Using the Island Designer app on your NookPhone to place dirt tiles to plant the starts on, is a cute way of making a proper little pumpkin patch.
It’s important to water your pumpkins regularly as they will then produce more pumpkins for you to harvest later on
If you water your planted pumpkin starts everyday (barring rainy days) until the pumpkins are fully grown, You will be able to harvest three pumpkins as opposed to the fewer pumpkins that grow when you don’t water them each day.
Like flowers, the pumpkins will twinkle when watered.
There are four different stages of Pumpkin growth. These four stages happen over the course of the four days it takes for Pumpkins to be ready for harvesting.
When your pumpkin(s) have reached the fourth stage of growth (as illustrated above), they are ready for harvesting!
To harvest a pumpkin, stand over it and press the Y button. The pumpkin will then be in your inventory, and can now be used as a crafting material!
Yes, pumpkins do indeed regrow after being harvested. So there’s no need to dig the plants up, as more pumpkins will contine to sprout.
There are four different types of pumpkins that can grow from a pumpkin start and then be harvested. The pumpkins grow in orange, yellow, white, and green.
The orange pumpkin is the most common colored pumpkin to sprout. The other three colored pumpkins are uncommon in comparison. This does make sense however, as the spooky item DIY’s require solely orange pumpkins as crafting materials.
But to customize your Spooky Set items, you’ll still need the other colored pumpkins which sprout in yellow, white, and green.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the first game in the franchise to not have seasonal events ingrained. To stop players from time travelling and experiencing seasonal events out of season, Nintendo have been introducing them via updates instead. Additionally, Nintendo haven’t been very forthcoming in sharing details about Halloween in Animal crossing: new Horizons. Only confirming that there will indeed be a Halloween event, the Big N have been trick-and-no-treating players super early!
Jack is a visiting spectre-like character with a pumpkin for a head. Like Zipper (who would actually be a creepier king of Halloween), Jack has a relatively humanoid appearance, but is rather short. It is almost certain he will make an appearance in New Horizons due to the presence of his Jack-o’-lantern head in Nintendo’s updates.
Whilst we don’t know a lot about what the Halloween event will entail, there are some things we know for sure. It has been confirmed (thanks to Nintendo Direct gameplay footage), that your island’s shop exteriors will get a spooky makeover!
Yes! At least enough to want to decorate the exteriors of their homes for Halloween. In regards to whether they will go trick or treating, we’ll just have to patiently wait and see. In the meantime, there’s nothing stopping us from getting spooky! Why not give your island a Halloween makeover with these awesome ideas?
Halloween varies slightly throughout the Animal Crossing series. However, there are some notable elements of continuity. These include:
This consistency throughout the series means that we are likely to see the above features in New Horizons also.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons could see the return of the following furniture from the Spooky Series:
We could also see the return of the Creepy Series items introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. The Creepy Series consists of the following items:

As the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween event draws near, players inevitably are wanting to decorate their islands to celebrate. Animal Crossing: New Horizons has less Halloween-themed furniture than in New Leaf.
But we’ve seen how creative and innovative the Animal Crossing fanbase are, and they aren’t letting that fact stop them from celebrating in style. Whether it be using official Halloween items, or improvising with cool custom content, players have come up with some spook-tacular island ideas! Pumpkin patches, cemetaries, and haunted houses are just a few examples.
If you’re unsure about how to welcome Jack back in style, get inspired with these Halloween island ideas from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t the only game getting its spook on. Ooblets is also getting a Halloween update which will feature a creepy new region called Nullwhere.

The entrance to your island is the first thing that other players will see when visiting. Therefore if you want to leave a lasting impression and wow from the very start, it makes sense to make your entrance magnificent. If you’re unsure on how to go about this, why not use these awesome Animal Crossing: New Horizons entrances as inspiration.
Before you indulge yourself in the pure eye candy below, make sure you also take a peak at these stunning and just beyond precious design ideas on how to make the Able Sisters Shop look even cuter!
It can be daunting knowing where to start with any island renovations. It can also be a bit disheartening to see other people’s awesome creations and feel like your own island is lackluster in comparison (I’ve been there!).
However, don’t be disheartened, as ACNH isn’t meant to be stressful! (Although the Bunny Day festivities kinda were, so thanks, Nintendo…) 🐰🪓
But back on topic, if you’re dead (like Zipper will be if he ever sets foot on my island again) set on making your airport/island entrance look super cool, then these simple tips will heed you well. Be sure to take all the time you need, plan your island entrance in advance (see below for tools and tips to help), and most importantly, make sure that you do you! 😊
Planning is an important part of terraforming/landscaping your island. Therefore, like these awesome island maps shown below, you could definitely hand draw your island map, or use digital art software (which would make a nice memento). But it doesn’t even need to be that hard with this Google docs spreadsheet ACNH map creator 😀🗺️
If you are too busy hunting down that blasted bunny with an axe don’t have the time (or inclination) to hand-draw/create your entire island map, then don’t worry! A handy 3D ACNH island planner is available to download for free on itch.io.
Here you can try out terraforming ideas and get an idea of how they’ll look in 3D before committing to paying for that darn bridge, only to have to give Tom Nook more bells to demolish it, yet again! If you own a Chromebook like myself, you may be disappointed to know that the app is only avilable to download on Mac, Windows, and Linux operating systems. Although you can still use the planner in-browser whilst using a Chromebook, which I discovered AFTER using the below method…
You can also use the more simplistic in-browser Happy Island Designer planner here. Whilst unfortunately not 3D, the tool does allow you to plan your island beforehand, instead of getting stuck right in, only to realize that you don’t know where to start.
I found it quite handy to see roughly how my island would look, due to the ability to place trees, flowers, and buildings. Additionally, you can upload a photo or screenshot of your island map layout before starting, something which would’ve saved me a lot of time, had I known beforehand… (Man, I need to do my research)! 🙄 Here is my first attempt at using Happy Island Designer:
Below are some great videos with content ranging from tips on how to design your island entrance, to speed builds of more awesome examples to inspire you:

As August comes to an end, autumn falls upon us. 2020 has had its downs for sure. However, it has also had ups, such as the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and now the exciting feeling of autumn drawing near. Pumpkin spice, Halloween, candy corn, and everything in between, fall is the exciting season that bridges the gap between sun and snow.
As the weather gets colder and the leaves start to ‘fall’, here are some Animal Crossing: New Horizons clothing designs that are delightfully autumnal.
Take a look at some more amazing clothing collection! There’s a whole load of cool clothing designs being created (some of which you can see here, here, and here). But with cute clothing designs galore, here are some cute non-clothing custom design codes for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

In previous games, players were limited when decorating their Able Sisters’ exteriors. Pixelated paths were basically the only way of landscaping in Animal Crossing: Wild World. I remember trying to spruce up my Animal Crossing: Wild World shops by using mismatched flowers from Tom Nook. I also remember crudely insulting the tanuki tycoon on the bulletin board, but that’s for another time (and probably another place). But even using flowers to decorate was difficult due to the darn pavement beneath the shops.
Even in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the shopping area was unchangeable. Additionally, players couldn’t curve paths, terraform, or place furniture outside. Therefore the addition of these features to Animal Crossing: new Horizons is what makes the game so attractive.
Players just have so much more freedom and ways to be creative when it comes to exterior design. However, the sudden abundance of tools given to us can be a little daunting. Somehow staring at plain grass doesn’t seem to help inspiration to hit any faster.
Not used to decorating the exteriors of shops in the games, I had no clue where to start. The outside areas of Able Sisters and Nook’s Cranny on my island remained pitifully drab until REALLY recently. Are you in the same boat? Get inspired by these Able Sisters exteriors from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Why not use one of these amazing path designs around your Able Sisters shop?

Search online for Animal Crossing: New Horizons beach ideas and you’ll find an almost infinite amount of beautiful beach inspiration. Additionally, the internet also has lots of examples of gorgeous gardens, wonderful waterfalls and cool campsites from the game. As inspiration is everywhere, you may have finished decorating your island. On the other hand, you might still have some areas that are a bit bare.
I have plenty of these spaces. In my case, the flat rocks by the beaches are the most frustrating areas. Small and weirdly-shaped, these rocks have angered me from day one. To make matters worse, there are few articles dedicated solely to Animal Crossing: New Horizons rock areas.
As a result, I decided to gather in this article my favorite ways in which people have been filling these spaces. Onsens, smoothie cafes, and places to wash socks, there’s inspiration for everyone on how to jazz up those rocks. From the cutest of painting spots right next to the sea, to relaxing spaces where your player can drink tea.
The creative ways that players are using these areas are seriously clever. Make sure to carry on reading to see some rad Animal Crossing: New Horizons rock areas.
