In previous games, players were limited when decorating their Able Sisters and Nook’s Cranny exteriors. Pixelated paths were basically the only way of landscaping in Animal Crossing: Wild World. I remember trying to spruce up my Animal Crossing: Wild World shops by using mismatched flowers from Tom Nook (when I wasn’t putting them around my house).
I also remember crudely insulting the tanuki tycoon on the bulletin board, but that’s for another time (and probably another place). But even using flowers to decorate was difficult due to the darn pavement beneath the shops.
Even in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the shopping area was unchangeable. Additionally, players couldn’t curve paths, terraform, or place furniture outside. Therefore the addition of these features to Animal Crossing: New Horizons is what makes the game so attractive.
Players just have so much more freedom and ways to be creative when it comes to exterior design. However, the sudden abundance of tools given to us can be a little daunting. Somehow staring at plain grass doesn’t seem to help inspiration to hit any faster.
Not used to decorating the exteriors of shops in the games, I had no clue where to start. The outside areas of Able Sisters and Nook’s Cranny on my island remained pitifully drab until REALLY recently. Are you in the same boat? Get inspired by these Nook’s Cranny exteriors from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Having had so much time pass since the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s no secret or surprise that inspiring island design ideas are everywhere. We’ve seen (and shown) examples of gorgeous gardens, wonderful waterfalls, cool campsites (to name just a few areas!) from the game. As inspiration is everywhere, you may feel you have finished decorating your island.
I thought I had, until I realised there were a few areas that looked a bit bare. Two examples of areas that I didn’t know what to do with were my island’s peninsula and its rocky areas. The pier in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (known as the dock in previous games), has also proven pesky to decorate due to being too narrow and small.
As a result, I haven’t yet decorated my pier, despite owning the game for well over six months. Wanting to rectify this, I decided to scour the web for some ideas. I wasn’t disappointed. My search yielded piers transformed into wonderful wharves, relaxing reading spots and peaceful picnic areas.
I made the assumption that some players were ‘in the same boat’. And so, I compiled a few of my favourite piers, to share with you in this article right here(s).

The internet is full of inspiring examples of gorgeous gardens, wonderful waterfalls and cool campsites from Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As inspiration is everywhere, you may have finished decorating your island. I thought I had. However, every Animal Crossing: New Horizons island has a pesky little strip of land that juts out into the sea.
These peninsulas are pesky in the sense that they can seem both too big and too small to do anything with, in addition to being oddly shaped.
Upon beginning the game back in the spring, I simply placed a bench and tourist telescope on mine. These two objects would remain there right up until recently, after I went searching for design ideas.
And design ideas I found! From terraformed terrain with lighthouses, to picturesque picnic spots for teddy bears, I discovered that there are plenty of creative ways to fill these spaces on your island. Whilst many more examples exist, here are a few of the best peninsula design ideas from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Thanks to the game’s summer update, players can now dive and swim. Whilst you can simply wade into the ocean from beach areas, fans came up with a much more fun way of entering the water: Diving spots! The more spectacular diving spots usually combine cliffs and a ramp (which allows suited up players to run and somersault into the sea).
(For more examples of diving platforms, click here)
The rocky areas near the beaches on Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands can also be tricky to tackle. For inspiration, take a peek at these awesome examples of how players have been decorating their islands’ rocks.
Do you have other small and empty spaces on your island that you don’t know what to do with? If your answer was yes, make sure to check out these cute little design pieces too.

The highly-anticipated Animal Crossing: New Horizons fall update is live. The update contains a bunch of cool features such as the ability to grow pumpkins, spooky new reactions, and new Halloween clothing and costumes. Additionally, players now have access to more skin and eye colors for their player to choose from.
Wicked witches with green skin, imps with red eyes, and orange-eyed cats are just a few ways the new Halloween skin & eye colors in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are making Halloween costumes better. However, they aren’t immediately available to players when using a mirror for character customization.
Like me, you may be wondering if you didn’t get this update feature. However, there is a way of obtaining the new skin and eye colors. In this article, we will explain how you get the new Halloween skin & eye colors in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Albeit obvious, the very first thing you need to do is to install the fall update if you haven’t already done so.
Next, load up Animal Crossing: New Horizons and head to Residents Services.
Once inside, interact with the NookStop Terminal. Select the ‘Redeem Nook Miles’ option when prompted.
You will notice two new additions that can be redeemed with Nook Miles. The first addition is labelled ‘Body-Paint Costume Tips’. Redeem this option for 2,400 Nook Miles and you will then have unlocked the new Halloween skin colors too
The second new addition is called ‘Exploring New Eye Colors’. Redeem this option, which also costs 2,400 Nook Miles and you will then have access to the new Halloween eye colors too.
To access and try out the new skin and eye colors, simply interact with a mirror like you usually would when customizing your character’s features.
There are four new body paint color options for players to choose from after purchasing ‘Body Paint Costume Tips’ from the Nook Stop terminal. The four colors included are white, green, blue, and purple.
There are six new eye color options for players to choose from after purchasing ‘Exploring New Eye Colors’ from the Nook Stop terminal. The six new eye colors included are pink, orange, yellow, purple, grey and light green.
NB: These new body-paint and eye color options are useable year round. However, as they are only redeemable in October, (make sure you get them from the Nook Stop terminal before the month ends).
In addition to body-paint, Halloween-themed face paint will make a one-day appearance on October 31st. Stay tuned for more information on this, as well as what the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween event will be like!
