There is an abundance of cozy farming games out there now. Stardew Valley, Coral Island, and Roots of Pacha are some of my all-time favorites. They are wholesome and have a bit of story while still being open to be played however you want. I think what makes them so cozy is the repetitiveness of farming, while being able to break from doing the same thing. What I’ve really wanted is a city-based cozy game where you visit shops in the neighborhood and befriend people sounds like a dream. And now we finally have one!

Moonlight in Garland is a cozy, open-ended life sim. You’re brand new to the bustling city of Garland, and you’re building a new life in the metropolis. Start by finding the perfect apartment by choosing from four options. Cedar Court has beautiful historic features. Maple Place has a great foodie culture and green space nearby. The student accommodations are close to the city’s best nightlife. Or there’s even a modern and stylish high rise called Birch Tower! Each apartment comes with its own unique challenges and community of people to get to know. Once you’ve settled into your new home, engage in a number of different activities across the city.

Spend time getting to know your neighbors in Moonlight in Garland, as well as help the building manager to solve community problems. Even make friends with other residents of Garland to experience meaningful events and cut scenes, and perhaps fall in love. Or take some time to photograph and document the local wildlife you find in the city. Just don’t forget to water your houseplants, either! You can also take on a part time job, get married, attend festivals, solve local mysteries, and more in this cozy city life sim.

    Available Now

Moonlight in Garland is available now on Steam. There are plans to port it to other platforms once full release on Steam happens in 2024!

Moonlight in Garland has similar visual vibes as Wish Upon a Llama!

The farming sim genre has exploded in the last few years, and it can get overwhelming with the number of choices that are out there. Not all games are alike, though in some cases they very much are. Some games do really well to set themselves apart with cool new features or gorgeous and unique art, though, and Moondrop is one of those.

Farm, Fish, and Restore the Town

Farming is tough all on its own, but in Moondrop, there’s an added element of difficulty. The mountain you’re building your farm on is ever-changing. And when the mists roll in, everything disappears! Otherwise, the mountainside has great soil for planting and is the perfect place to farm. Grow a variety of peculiar crops that need to match up with their neighbors to grow and flourish. Some plants will spread across the farm, clone themselves, or even eat the other plants. There are even crops that will help keep the mists at bay for a short time.

When you’re not busy tending to your crops, you can explore some of the winding trails the mountain has to offer. Discover new seeds, perks, and blueprints while adventuring. Each new discovery you come across in Moondrop unlocks new possibilities for your future farms. You’ll even solve puzzles to learn about the mysteries of the mountain. Or, just cast a line and relax with some fishing!

Unfortunately, the encroaching mists can’t be kept away forever. When they come, they wipe out everything. Return to the abandoned village of Oncewas to sell your peculiar crops, and help revive the once-thriving town. Rebuild run-down buildings to encourage villagers to return, and they can unlock new upgrades and skills for you to use on your future farms. Then, return to the mountainside and begin a new farm, embark on a new adventure, and see what you can discover!

    Available Now!

You can find Moondrop on Steam and Itch.io. In fact, it’s currently 20% off on Steam until July 13th!

For more farming, check out Big Farm StoryBrookhaven Grimoire, and Coral Island.

Aside from the sales Steam puts on throughout the year, Next Fest is probably one of my favorite times of the year. Steam Next Fest happens three times a year and is often the first time a demo is available for a game. Plus, it’s always chock full of various demos to grab, and this round has been no different. I think I downloaded over 20 different demos! I won’t bore you with all of them, though. Instead, here are my top five favorite demos I played.

    Moving In

Moving In is a cozy, relaxing interior design game. You’ve just moved to a new house, all of your belongings are out front by the moving truck, and now you get to take them inside to arrange them however you wish. Arrange the bedroom to make it comfy and perfect for sleeping. Decorate the living room to be as inviting as you can. Even load your groceries into the fridge! With item locking, surface snapping, item rotation, and a variety of decor items, Moving In offers a place where you can let your creativity flow. And, with no challenges to complete, no specific goals to meet, and no timers to compete against, it is the perfect game for just hanging out and decorating a home.

I enjoyed the simplicity of Moving In. You pick up an item, you put it where you want. Maybe rotate it some to get a better angle, but that’s it. You’re not pigeonholed into placing things in a specific way to meet a goal. You aren’t rushing to do it as fast as possible. You just get to decorate and relax. Even the color palette is pleasing. It’s not too dark or too bright. Everything works together to make a beautiful game.

    Heading 2: Everafter Falls

Everafter Falls is a humorous little farming and life sim where you awaken in a new town. You’re surrounded by anthropomorphic animals, who explain to you that the past life you remember was all a simulation. You’ve supposedly been here before, but you have no memory of the place. That’s ok, though. Your neighbors are more than welcoming, and patiently explain things to you, including how to restart your farm!

With the help of your pet, till the earth, plant some seeds, water them, and eventually you’ll have crops to sell. You’ll even be able to employ the help of drones to automate your farm, too, so you can adventure through the dungeons with no worries about your farm. Of course, you’ll be able to fish for a variety of fish, which you can donate to the aquarium to revitalize it. Or, go forage for a number of different items to use. Maybe complete some quests while you’re at it, too.

I found Everafter Falls to be just gorgeous and adorable all at once, but what really drew me in was the humor. It immediately throws out hilarious dialogue and cements the animal townspeople are quirky and entertaining. It helps set it apart from other farm and life sims. Of course, the beautiful scenery and cute villager designs help set it apart too. Having a demo is a great way for people to decide if they like the game and will buy it, but not all demos achieve greatness. Heck, I played some that left me bewildered and unimpressed. However, Everafter Falls quickly made its way to my Wishlist with its refreshing characters, but familiar gameplay. I’m always chasing that cozy farm sim feel that Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley left me with.

    Little Kitty, Big City

Little Kitty, Big City is about a little black cat who gets lost in the big Japanese city it lives in, and they’re trying to get back home. You play as this adorable kitty as it explores the charming neighborhood alleyways and the bustling thoroughfares of their city, all while trying to make it back home. Befriend other animals and complete quests for them. Nuzzle up to strangers or even trip them and steal their phone! Hunt down cute little hats to wear, and knock over people’s potted plants. Cause chaos or simply find your way home, the choice is yours.

I have been impatiently waiting for this game for a while now. Unfortunately, it’s not set to release until 2024, but I’m so excited that a demo has released for Steam Next Fest. And it was awesome. Wandering around the streets between homes, finding vending machines and a busy walkway full of business people was all very nostalgic. It is exactly how I remembered many areas of Japan when I lived there. Nevermind that this game gives Untitled Goose Game vibes, but you’re a mischievous little kitty. I had an absolute blast with this demo.

    Paleo Pines

Next up on my Steam Next Fest list is Paleo Pines, another game I’ve been anticipating for a long while now. You’ve recently moved to a charming little island called Paleo Pines, where you find a small town alongside herds of friendly little dinosaurs. Of course, you’re not unfamiliar to people living alongside dinos. You have Lucky, your trusty parasaurolophus. With Lucky at your side, you’ll not only revitalize your rundown farm, turning it into a lush dino paradise, but you’ll explore the island and uncover the mysteries of Paleo Pines. Make friends with the quirky townspeople, as well as the friendly wild dinos, while you’re at it. Each dino has a skill that can be helpful to you on your farm.

Paleo Pines seems to be all I’d hoped for. It’s adorable, it’s beautiful, and there are friendly dinosaurs, who have a function beyond just getting to look at them! I absolutely adored this demo, and getting to see a hint of what’s to come. The island has some breathtaking views and easy gameplay, making for a perfectly cozy, relaxing play through.

    Sticky Business

Sticky Business is the perfect opportunity to run a sticker business without the pitfalls of running your own real business. And it has the added intrigue of character stories! In this game, you get to design different stickers from thousands of design elements, including sparkles and holo effects. Set a specific niche for yourself, or go wild and sell all kinds of different types. Each sticker attracts all kinds of different customers, and each of those customers have their own stories and backgrounds to discover. Once you’ve designed your stickers, print them out, and lovingly pack them up for each order. Listen to your customer’s story as you choose the perfect paper and filling to keep the stickers safe in the mail.

The demo for this game was wonderful. It’s calming, relaxing, and has an easy to use interface. Designing stickers was as easy as dragging and dropping elements onto the design area. Even packing orders wasn’t stressful. You see how many of each sticker you have, how many stickers an order wants, then get to choose from several different paper colors, as well as filling options. I’d love to get the full game so I can see the upgrades you can buy, and what goodies there are to add to each box!

Want To Give Them a Try?

This round of Steam Next Fest is currently going on, and will be until June 26th. Head on over to Steam to grab the demos for these games, and so many more. And while you’re at it, add your favorites to your Wishlist to get notifications for them.

And of course, if you’re looking for even more cute games, checkout Pixelshire, Dinkum, or even Coral Island.

    Welcome to Violet’s Boutique!

Wylde Flowers is a beautifully crafted farming sim (and you can read my review here) where you play as Tara. She’s a city girl who arrived in Fairhaven to help her ailing grandmother with the family farm. It needs a lot of restoring, and Grandma Hazel just can’t do it alone. Plus, Tara’s a witch! Grandma Hazel is too, and teaches Tara about her new powers. So, Tara’s got a full plate. Learning to be a witch, restoring the farm, building relationships with the townspeople, and solving the mystery of Fairhaven is a full-time adventure.

Developer Studio Drydock even continues to impress the fanbase by actually listening to their criticisms and wishes. The first free update was released in December 2022, and gave players the ability to continue changing the seasons for continuous farming fun after the story is over. They also added more dialogue and the ability to go on dates with the person you married.

And come February 24th 2023, Studio Drydock will be releasing another free update! Violet is getting to live out her dreams and is opening a brand new boutique. You’ll be able to craft new outfits for Tara, from other dresses, sweatpants, overalls, and more, you’ll get to dress for any occasion. No more farming in heeled boots and a short dress! There will also be a Photo Mode, so you can capture special moments with friends and save memories from Tara’s life in Fairhaven. There’s even a special wedding to attend, and several more secret treats to discover in-game.

    Coming February 24th!

In just two short days we’ll have Violet’s Boutique! If you haven’t played Wylde Flowers yet, you can find a demo on Steam, where you can also Wishlist the game. It’s also on Apple Arcade and Nintendo Switch!

And if you’re looking for more farming fun, then check out the upcoming Cornucopia, Coral Island which is in early access, or the fully released Harvestella.

Farm, Craft, Build a Family, And More!

Cornucopia is another in a long list of farming RPG sims that have cropped up since the genre began. With its charming 2.5D pixel graphics, and an abundance of features, this game looks like a great contender for players looking for more farm sim fun.

Featuring the usual farming, crafting, cooking, and animal care, Cornucopia offers the same comfortable features players have grown to love. However, this game takes it a step further with the amount of choices available. Farmers will be able to plant 52 types of fruit trees, 15 types of berry bushes, and grow 52 different crops, including their different artisan varieties. You’ll then be able to sell your crops via shipping bin, or sell them at auction, or even cook them. There will be 200 cooking recipes for farmers to discover.

Besides farming, there’s logging, fishing, mining, and pet breeding. Cornucopia has 150 fish species for farmers to catch. Plus, pets will play a part in game play. Breed pets to discover all the unique genetic variations and colors available in game, and create your favorite pet. Then enter them into races against other pets, or use their help to fight 12 different monsters and 5 different bosses.

When you’re done with the hard work for the day, kick back with some crafting and decorating. Unlock furniture and decorations to turn your farm into your favorite getaway. Make friends with Cornucopia’s NPCs, too. Who knows, maybe one of the over 47 NPCs will catch your fancy! Romance them, go on dates, and unlock their romantic cut scenes. Even marry one, start a family, and decorate their room in your house. How will you live your Cornucopia life?

    Coming Soon!

This cute farm game, Cornucopia, will be released August 1st, 2023 and will be found on Steam. Be sure to Wishlist it on Steam to be notified when it releases!

Craftopia is an open world adventure/survival game and is slated for release on Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

After having played countless hours of Breath of the Wild, I am always on the lookout for a game that offers a similar but unique feel. A game that has much of the same features, but maybe adds a few things that Breath was missing.

Things, maybe, like farming and industrialization. Or maybe even a Dune Buggy or a helicopter. Well, Craftopia is all of this and so much more.

    Craftopia

    About Craftopia

Craftopia is described as an open world, survival, action-RPG with life sim elements. It’s basically all the best features from all the best genres thrown into one cute game. The goal of the game is to explore and resource so that you may build a huge and thriving community.

    Even the developers mention how they just wanted to put all the best features from the favorite games into one amazing game. The features list on Steam says it all;

    Craftopia

“We have imagined what would happen when we combine our favorite video games altogether.”

    • Chop trees and mine stones as in Sandbox,
    • Explore the world as in Open-world,
    • Fight the hunger as in Survival,
    • Cultivate and harvest as in Farming,
    • Collect loots in dungeons as in Hack-and-slash,
    • Automate activities as in Factory management,
    • Hunt monsters and creatures as in Hunting action,
    • Cast magical spells as in Fantasy RPG.

Witchbrook has been in development for several years, here are some new details you may not know about this witchy life sim!

In case you are not familiar with the magical life and farming sim, it is being developed by Chucklefish, the same company that published Stardew Valley for some time before Eric, creator of Stardew, took back his publishing rights.

In Witchbrook the player will take on the role of a student inside a magic school, something a Harry Potter fan might be familiar with or even very excited about, I know I am! During the course of the studies, players will be on a path to discovering who they really are.

The game will take the player on a journey through various activities that all help you work towards a successful school life. Withcbrook offers a lot of side activities next to the very busy study schedule that players will have to master.

    Witchbrook Multiplayer

The game was announced with no details about the possibility of multiplayer and it was assumed that the game would be strictly single player. Luckily this is not the case as Chucklefish no revealed when asked if there would be multiplayer support, “Yes! We’ve been quietly working out how to achieve a fun gameplay experience for more than one player and we’ll share more details about how this will work in the future.”

This is really exciting news for anyone who enjoys sharing their gaming experience with a friend, loved one or a random over the internet. Stardew Valleys multiplayer update has celebrated huge success among the thriving community.

    Witchbrook on Nintendo Switch

Witchbrook recently became available to Wishlist on Steam with no further announcements in regards to other platforms. In fact the official FAQ states that Witchbrook is currently only planned for PC.

However, a few questions further down Chucklefish talks about cross-platform play and says “We would love for players to be able to enjoy Witchbrook together regardless of which platform they choose, but there are challenges”

By implying that they are currently trying to work out cross-platform related issues, they are also softly admitting that Witchbrook will most likely be on other platforms as well. And let’s be honest, what would be the obvious console Chucklefish would want to release the game on? Nintendo Switch of course.

While these are speculations supported by some evidence, I would be surprised if we didn’t get a version of Witchbrook on Nintendo Switch.

If you are as excited as i am about Witchbrook you can read up on some more in-depth details about the magic game here.

    Witchbrook Release Date

Currently there is no release date for Witchbrook, with rumors among the community pointing at a 2023 release. There is no gameplay trailer just yet but take a look at some of the gorgeous images from the world of Witchbrook below.
