The publisher of Root Letter: Last Answer, Pqube, have announced on their Twitter page here that the game is releasing on PS4 and Switch in Europe on August 30th, 2019, while the North American PS4 and Switch versions are coming on September 3rd, 2019! The developers of the game, Kadokawa Games, have added new updates to this localization since their Japanese release of the game back in 2018. This includes: a new epilogue, improvements to gameplay, and a live-action mode. See below to learn about this upcoming visual-novel and to view the new gameplay trailer.

The Day-One Edition includes 100-page artbook

    About Root Letter: Last Answer

The return of the best-selling interactive mystery visual novel! Follow in the footsteps of Aya Fumino, a school penfriend allegedly involved in a tragic murder 15 years ago. Explore the prefecture of Shimane, uncover clues, and use the letters you wrote to each other to track down her childhood friends for questioning. But perhaps these friends, now adults living a peaceful life, will not be eager to let their painful memories resurface…

    Key Features

    • Solve a 15 year-old mystery – Many years have passed since the last correspondence with your pen friend Aya Fumino. While those memories have been long left behind, a confession of murder revealed in her last letter has resurfaced. It is now up to you to uncover the truth behind her disappearance.
    • An interactive visual novel Navigate your way around Aya’s hometown, search for clues in the environment, and confront her former friends that have now reached adulthood. Use the items and evidence at your disposal to make them confess!
    • A story with different outcomes – Your replies to Aya’s letters will have lasting consequences, and impact your relationship. Choose your answers carefully and shape a story with up to five different endings.
    • The complete experience – In addition to several gameplay improvements, Root Letter: Last Answer adds brand new epilogues that conclude Aya Fumino’s story and a live action mode.

    New Live-Action Mode

The new live-action mode lets you experience the story in a whole new way! Meaning, 90 different real-life actors portray the characters from the original game. The backgrounds are even real-life screenshots of the city of Matsue in Japan. You can alternate between modes from the title screen at any time while playing to see Shimane Prefecture’s real locations.

If Root Letter sounds like the game for you, check out the Ace Attorney trilogy which also mixes a visual-novel narration with investigative gameplay. Furthermore, you can solve another murder mystery with this game here: Jenny LeClue: Detectivú – A Narrative Mystery About Detectiving and Choosiness.

Solo Islands of the Heart is a narrative puzzle game developed by Team Gotham and published by Merge Games. This calming game will have you reflecting on your personal meaning of love and your current or past experiences. For the purpose of this review, I played on the Nintendo Switch which you will be available to the public on August 1st, 2019. As of July 31st, 2019 you’ll also be able to play the full release on Xbox One and the PS4. Below are some details about the game in general but due to its private nature, I encourage you to play for yourself and be honest with your answers on your romantic relationships which is the game’s intended purpose.

    Creating Your Relationship

You start the game by first choosing your own gender from male, female, and non-binary, then choosing the gender of the one you are or want to be in a relationship with (including anything). I find it strange that you only have the choice of three avatars that you can’t even customize especially when this experience is meant to be specific to you. I would have loved it so much more if I could make my character look like me and my partner. You do at least get to insert the name of your loved one before proceeding which you get to see written out on the back of your boat.

I selected the only female available to me and then the game chose the old man with the beard for my partner. At first I wasn’t sure if the character was just selected to be my guide but the more I played the more I realized that his spirit was following me and occasionally we got to interact. He was also referring to himself when he questions me after every choice. Sometimes it felt like there was something negative to be said about whatever answer I chose but it wouldn’t make much sense to have it any other way since everyone’s answers will be different and that’s O.K.

    What is in Your Heart

Your boat will take you to several different archipelagos hovering above water that tie into each other. As you progress, more will appear containing their own set of puzzles to solve in order to awaken the Sleeping Totem that corresponds to that area. Once you’ve reached a Sleeping Totem, it will ask you questions regarding your past and current experiences with love. There is no right or wrong answer, the point is only to contemplate the answer you provided. I decided to play this game with my real-life partner and we found ourselves having philosophical discussions about the choices and perspectives regarding love and romance. The game will also continue to remind you that you may not like what you unearth but it is necessary to rid yourself of doubt.

    A Poetic and Casual Adventure

The game wants you to think deeply and likens your journey to a discovery of what is truly inside your heart. Hopefully by answering these questions, you will have a better understanding of yourself and your true feelings. Solo Islands of the Heart gives you a moment to pause and even meditate by doing very simple and optional tasks along the way; playing music on your guitar and snapping photographs with your camera.

The guitar actually plays really well and beautifully and when taking a photograph you can adjust the lighting, but unfortunately not distance. There are also a few different animals that don’t really serve a purpose. They’ll shy away from you until you have fed them their favorite food, then you can proceed on petting them and having them follow you around. You’ll also find scattered throughout the environments love letters that seem to be tied to the answers you have been giving the Totems. They’re also optional but they are enlightening if not a little cheesy.

The content starts off rather innocent but then I got thrown with a question about the importance of sexual relations. Mind you, it was not in a crude or explicit way, but the game seemed more geared to a younger audience due to the graphics and the slew of adorable creatures you interact with along the way. This game however does require a lot of thinking and reading of text, which is written out in very complex way. Meaning, this is not a game for children.

    Graphics and Content

For a contemplative and relaxing game, the music is perfect in its simplicity and serene quality. The nature isn’t very detailed with its polygonal shapes, but it is very peaceful with its warm colors and plant-life. Aside from the actual puzzles, you have the option with interacting with the previously mentioned creatures that are pretty odd, but unique and cute in their own right. There’s a black cylindrical cat, a tiny pink elephant, a pudgy bird, and some puffer fish. They’ll even leave behind rainbow poop after you’ve fed them. When you’ve reached the end of a segment, you place the items you received from the Totems inside of a large lighthouse. I do like seeing the view from up high overlooking the water.

    Gameplay and Puzzles

The looks can be very deceiving with only a few boxes at your disposal however these puzzles become quite challenging later in the game. I’m glad my partner was there to figure them out with me because I think it would have taken me more than a few hours to complete the game. Occasionally you will receive new items or abilities you can use such as a parachute and a staff to move around the boxes. This insures you don’t get too used to how everything works and come up with different solutions.

I haven’t tested this out but there should be different ways to accomplishing the same goals. There also seems to be some puzzles that you are able to skip. My favorite puzzles were the very few dungeon-like ones about creating shadows. There was no platforming involved and it was easier to mess around without having to restart a bunch of times.

It can be a little frustrating to fall off the edges of the islands into the water because then you have to swim to the nearest ladder to get back to the surface. There is no way for you to jump in this game but that is a contributing factor in the puzzles. For the most part, you’ll find yourself trying to create bridges to get across and platforms to reach the heights. If you are impatient like me, this may ruin your ‘zen mood’, especially if you’re struggling. I don’t want to share too much more about the puzzles so as not to spoil the game. Nevertheless, I’m surprised that there were different ways to manipulate square boxes but I still found myself getting a little tired of the repetitiveness.

    Controls and Interactions

One of my major complaints about the game would be the camera. There are some options to inverting the axis and sensitivity but for some reason I can’t place why it kept bothering me. The movements are a little jarring and you do need to constantly rotate your camera to see everything.

Another complaint would be that some of the sentences in the questions didn’t make much sense and possibly got a little lost in translation. I mention this because the wording is very important in order for you to make the right decision for yourself and is the large focus of the game. I wish there were more than three options because sometimes I didn’t like any of the answers. Some questions should have even been more specific because the meaning could be interpreted in different ways. We even needed to restart some of these and some puzzles due to the game crashing a couple of times and there being very few autosave moments.

    More Information

The game ends with you finally getting to physically connect with your partner. It’s almost as if you just went through those trials together and came out of it on the other side (get it?). Solo Islands of the Heart also gives you a little wrap-up of your answers and summarizes it in a nice way. If this sounds like the game for you, you can also check out the official website for Merge Games here.

Boundless is a subscription-free MMO maintained by optional in-app purchases. Hunt, trade, craft, build an empire with friends and become Boundless. This action/adventure RPG developed by indie studio Wonderstruck and published by Square Enix released on Steam and PS4 (PSN) back in 2018. Now there’s been a large and significant update since July 16th, 2019 so you can get back into the game online and enjoy the Harvest Era! Our bread and butter just so happens to be farming here at myPotatoGames so we highlighted that new addition below!

    Farming

    The developers stress that Boundless has very unique farming a variety of different angles. Even the crops themselves should be pretty interesting. For example, some of the things you’ll be able to cultivate include;

    • Organic crops, including the classic Earthyams and Starberries, but also a set of new items. Some of these will grow from the ground, but others will grow from hanging vines, so think vertically when planning your farm!
    • Inorganic fuel crops. Combustion Fraction and Kindling Mass can be cultivated in underground setups, grown away from the sunlight of the surface. These subterranean farms will need to be planned very differently from overground farms.
    • Goo – when searching Gem or Lucent Exoworlds, players will be able to gather Kernels from Goo. These are then planted in, and will grow down from, a cave roof. Goo Pigments are harvested from these, If they have been planted in Gleam they’ll even take on its colour. These are then used in Colour Sprays – a whole other system which we’ll discuss in a moment…

Use the new farming tools such as The Hand Tiller to prepare the soil for crops, and the two new Fertilizers which will help increase the yield of said crops. There are many modifiers in place which will affect the success and productivity of a farm, such as soil type, nearby vegetation, and proximity to water. The right combination of each of these will allow crops to grow faster and more abundantly, so green-fingered Citizens will have plenty of room for experimentation. There are also new Skills to build in farming, allowing characters to become specialists in this area of the game. Irrigation is one of those important factors, whether that be with water for above ground crops, or lava for some of the more exotic offerings.

To find out more about the Harvest Era update specifically, you can go to their updates on Steam right here. Furthermore, you can continue reading below if you are unfamiliar with this game and the general gameplay.

A Juggler’s Tale is an atmospheric 3D puzzle sidescroller set in a medieval puppet theater play. The game is currently in development by a team of indie developers made up of: Sven Bergmann, Steffen Oberle, Enzio Probst, Dominik Schön. The release date window is between late 2019 and early 2020 coming first to PC, and then PS4 and the Nintendo Switch.

This hauntingly beautiful and creepy art-style coupled with the story’s tragic tale reminds us of the movie Coraline. Alternatively, Coraline is turned into a ragdoll when stumbling upon the Other World. In A Juggler’s Tale, you’re trying to escape the life of a controlled puppet forced to perform! All the while you can hear the narrator explain Abby’s actions and the voice of the antagonist tempting you to return. Most of which is being recited in rhymes might we add. Although you must forge on and help Abby to navigate the dangers of the world, and free her from her strings (shackles)!

    About A Juggler’s Tale

Play as the string puppet Abby as she flees from her captors into freedom and adventure: a world of beauty and wonder – but also danger! She finds herself in a war-torn, medieval fairytale, surrounded by ravaged, starving citizens and hunted by the relentless cut-throat, Tonda. Who can she trust? Can she avoid the traps and betrayal? Despite dangling from her threads, Abby learns that she can still influence her destiny – if only by winning over the audience. Help Abby navigate a traumatized, yet hauntingly beautiful world. Lead her forward through riddles and around traps, evade her pursuers and find – perhaps – freedom!

Dragons have been becoming so popular these days and so are their reptilian cousins, the dinosaurs. We here at myPotatoGames have found a couple games you can play right now, as well as one new one in early development that we will be keeping a close eye on. Some dinos may be ferocious but others can also be cute and lovable, and we want to take care of them forever! Well that dream is now a possibility, see how below.

    Parkasaurus

The game is created by indie developer WashBear Studio, based in Canada. It is available on Steam Early Access here and continues to receive regular updates and added features. The most recent additions to Parkasaurus is the Workshop, where you can change dino skins (rainbow-colored woohoo), add new dinosaurs, add buildings and decorations, and the DinoBook, a guide to mini objectives, and a little insight into the Parkasaurus lore. Most importantly, yes those dinos in the trailer were wearing hats. We here at myPotatoGames are especially fond of that cheese hat. This is just the perfect game to play while we wait for Planet Zoo to release in November.

    About Parkasaurus

Parkasaurus challenges the player to plan, design, and construct exhibits that maximize both their Dinos happiness and the park guests’ willingness to spend money! Starting with only a dream and an abandoned park the player will discover new technologies, new attractions, and a special bond with all their Dinos. It’s all captured in stunningly beautiful modernized 3D flat design graphics. In Parkasaurus, fortune is a real possibility and money management is an absolute necessity.

    Key Features

    • Exhibit Design: Each dinosaur requires a unique biosphere – the shape of exhibit, materials used, ecology, plants, elevation and humidity all make a difference
    • Park Creation and Management: Wisely spend resources to build the ultimate Dino Park and turn a profit to ensure future stability
    • Guest Monetization: By reading reviews and observing your guests, fine tune your parks flow and arrangement to maximize happiness
    • Employee Management: Level up rookie hires or bring on established veterans to help run your park smoothly
    • Time Travel for Dino Eggs: Go back in time to retrieve the hottest (and oldest) Dino Eggs
    • Chaotic Dino Escapes: Handle with care your Dino rampages by switching into first person view
    • Year Round Challenges: Manage unexpected weather disasters and the expected demands of each season

    Unnamed Dino Game

This game has officially just received the green-light to move toward the development phase and therefore we have little to no information other than the dinos will be cute and tamable. Right now we have to make do with the occasional Twitter posts such as: “Here’s an important lesson for any dino rancher! Do you have the skills to tame and earn the trust of wild dinos.” You should also check out the adorable GIFs of dinos below and give them all the support they need!

About This Game by Italic Pig

It’s a casual prehistoric-themed farm/social simulation game where you can catch, collect & ride dinos on your ranch. Build dinosaur pens, keep them happy, and upgrade your farmhouse. Each dino will have different decor needs and preferences for their pens. There will also be a range of colors available for the dinos. Each species will have a specific pool of colors that you can find naturally in the wild.

Knights and Bikes is a quirky action-adventure set on a fictional British island in the late 1980s. The creators convey that they were “inspired by coming-of-age movies like The Goonies and classic games like Earthbound and Secret of Mana.” Knights and Bikes was funded successfully via Kickstarter in March 2016, which you can visit to view their items for sale.

The developer, Foam Sword, is a little game company by Rex Crowle (Tearaway, LittleBigPlanet) and Moo Yu (LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank), who are dedicated to making games about fun, friends, and imagination. The publishers behind the game are Double Fine Presents. Although there is no set release date as of yet, the game will be available for PS4 and on Steam.

You play as two characters: Nessa & Demelza (cooperatively online or locally). They’re tough and imaginative girls exploring the island of Penfurzy in search of mysteries and on a quest to find the legendary treasure. Cycle around on bikes, explore the natural beauty of the environment, and save the ancient island from ruin. Meanwhile, you must rescue the adults that have gone missing!

Deal with enemies in an endearing child-like and hilarious way by using frisbees, water-balloons, a cranked-up stereo, a pet goose (you can high-five your goose), and more. Moreover, the trinkets you collect from adventuring and from the islanders you save, allows you to upgrade your bikes, learn new abilities, and to travel further.

    Key Features

    • Best friends forever! Play single-player with an AI companion, couch co-op or online co-op.
    • Solve puzzles and deal with enemies using your improvised abilities! These include: frisbees, water-balloons, puddle-stomping welly boots, and a powerful boom-box stereo.
    • Work together! Both characters have different skills so you’ll want to experiment with how they combine in order to succeed.
    • Explore the island! Seek out its modern tourist-attractions and ancient ruins, both on foot and on your customised bikes.
    • Discover treasure! Ranging from trinkets like broken action-figures and animal skulls, to the legendary riches rumoured to be hidden on the island.
    • Upgrade your bikes! Barter with adults (offload your junk) so you can personalise your bikes, unlock extra abilities or at the very least: get those training-wheels removed!
    • Tend to your pet goose! Captain Honkers has a keen nose-beak and can help you find what you need, if you keep him fed and happy.

This game offers a completely hand-painted visual art style which gives it a very unique look. Interested in fun and different graphics? Check out our most recent news of LUNA, a point-and-click game. Like the idea of having a pet goose? Check out this upcoming game here.
