The Sims 5 is expected to be an online game where you can connect with your friends.

The Sims 4 released more than 6 years ago but EA has continuously supported the aged game by releasing multiple expansion packs every year. Now details have emerged pointing out that The Sims 5 could finally be an online game where people can connect and play together.

The Sims 4 was meant to be multiplayer

Before The Sims 4 was released a prototype of the game had leaked. The early name for Sims 4 was Sims Olympus a multiplayer game in which players from around the world could connect to build together and experience The Sims in a massive online world.

The Sims Olympus was well into its development when EA decided to pull the plug on its online functionality and transformed the multiplayer game into the single player experience just one year before the final game was released – this game is now The Sims 4.

If you have played The Sims 3 as well as The Sims 4 you may noticed that the big open world from The Sims 3 is missing in the sequel. Many insiders reported that this was due to the fact that neighborhoods in The Sims 4 were meant to be filled by real life players. Each neighborhood would be a separate world, an instance where your friends would occupy the neighboring lot and not Sim NPCs.

In some of the leaked concept videos you can clearly see that the game was designed to be a multiplayer experience.

So online multiplayer was long coming but Maxis and EA never quite pulled through. Back in 2002 Maxis and EA released The Sims Online, a massive MMO where hundreds of thousand of players joined a world to play and build their Sim life online. You could run casinos, shops, schools, restaurants and real players would come visit and make use of your service. The Game was ahead of its time and ultimately left to die months after its release with very little support from Maxis and EA.

While it was brought back under a new name – EA Land and again quickly celebrated great success, EA once again choose to shut it down as it was considered too much competition to their single player The Sims experience. The team who ran EA land went off to create TirNua a Sim like online browser game that could never quite attract the crowd needed to sustain its life.

A fan project in the recent years brought the original The Sims Online back to life in a free to play version of the game called FreeSO – you can find a trailer and more information right here, If you are a fan of The Sims I highly recommend checking this out!

    The Sims Online

The Sims 5 finally to feature multiplayer

The Sims 5 has been in development for some time. It is very common by the time a game releases a few of the core developers start drafting out ideas for the sequel. As an example, when Animal Crossing New Leaf released, a small core group already began working on Animal Crossing New Horizons. So it is safe to assume that The Sims 5 has been in development for at least five to six years with a smaller development team in the beginning of course.

Which would mean that we are possibly looking at a The Sims 5 release sometime in 2021 – about 7 years after The Sims 4.

Most interestingly the new Sims game could finally feature multiplayer. In a time where players like to connect with friends in online worlds it is about time The Sims comes back Online.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently said “Typically, what The Sims has done is really focus on fulfilling the motivations of inspirations, escape, creation, self-improvement, and not necessarily focus as much on social interaction and competition,”

In the past The Sims focused on a dollhouse, single player experience but after nearly 20 years and 4 base games and more than 50 expansion and stuff packs this might be the end of that.

Wilson also said that “As Maxis continues to think about The Sims for a new generation – cross-platforms and a cloud of a neighbourhood world, you should imagine while we will always stay true to our inspiration, escape, creation, self-improvement, motivations,”

    Cross platform and Cloud Neighborhoods

Speaking about “cross-platform play” indicates that there will be some sort of online connectivity that goes beyond platforms of PC and consoles, letting players play togethey no matter what system they choose to play on. In addition to this statement EAs CEO also said that “a cloud of a neighbourhood world” would be part of the next game further pointing at a multiplayer experience in The Sims 5.

I personally would love to see an evaluation on the franchise, for too long EA has applied “rinse and repeat” to a franchise I used to love so much. It would change the gaming experience and the meaning of playing the game if people where to connect with other players around the world. I am very excited about the future of The Sims – I hope EA and Maxis will revamp the franchise and stick to its fun core just like Nintendo does with Animal Crossing.

Little Sim World is a super cute upcoming indie game that might finally give The Sims a run for their money!

The Sims has been around for more than 20 years now with little to no competition. Which is one of the reasons the series never quite evolved in what fans wanted it to be. The expansion packs while fun were somewhat repetitive, as every new installment in the game came with very similar expansions – Pets, Seasons, Magic and more.

One of the major drawbacks of The Sims franchise was the lack of multiplayer to me. I always enjoyed the thought of being able to invite my friends into my Sim World and be able to to share my experience with them, have them build their own home in my neighborhood or even become roommates.

Yes, there was The Sims Online but EA/Maxis quickly cancelled this project when its popularity didn’t compare to the offline version of the game.

In todays world a multiplayer mode is more important than ever as people from around the world are connecting through various ways – one of them being video games.

    Play alone or with Friends

    little sim world coffee

Yes! That’s right Little Sim World will featured a co-op multiplayer mode where you can enjoy all the beautiful things the game has to offer with your friends as the development team states “Yes, full multiplayer will be implemented after early access ends. No cutting corners!”

No Cutting Corners is the key phrase in the announcement. You will be able to share the game with your friends and not just be able to send each others a gift or visit an offline version of your friends city.

Little Sim World to the Rescue

Little Sim World is everything you’d want from an adorable life simulation game. Think of it as the Stardew Valley of The Sims. Little Sim World features adorable visuals but packs rich building tools and other features that you may know from games like The Sims.

The small indie team is currently working on brining the first playable version of the game to us as it also wants to make sure to fill the voids within the sim-communities hearts with a game sim lovers deserve!

Not only does the small team promise to deliver future small and large content updates for free ( for the foreseeable future ) but the game is also not locked behind a paywall and encourages you to play the title to unlock new furniture and clothing items – something that has become quite rare in new video game releases.

Explore an Open World – by foot, bus or your own car

Little Sim World features an open world with zero loading times for you to explore. The large city offers a wide variety of activities for you to take part in. Stop by the neighborhood Star-Coffee shop for an afternoon snack and maybe meet some new people who you can be-friend – if you wish to do so.

To get around the large open world city you may go by foot but whenever you want to get somewhere fast you can hop on the city bus for a cheap and faster way to get around town. Once you accumulated enough money you can even get a car which can be customized and used to drive around the city – wrooom.

Little Sim World – Romances, Weather, Careers and more

    little sim world

Little Sim World comes feature packed right out of the box and there is no need to pay extra money for additional features.

The game will feature a rich weather system making every daily experience a little different from the other. In addition to weather mechanics you can also enjoy seasons making celebrating the holidays and gardening just so much of a richer experience. You know I am a big fan of weather effects creating immersion in video games if you read my “New Horizons – It never snows on my island” article.

Of course like many other life simulation games you will be able to make friends or even find a loved one if that is what you desire. The large city is filled with many characters that you can interact with, be-friend and even find your significant other!

    Get a Job!

While exploring the open world is a lot of fun and making friends at the coffee shop or in the park is a great way to spend your free time, you will essentially want to build your very own home, upgrade it and get the furniture you desire – you know, making a house a home.

You may highly desire better looking items and the latest fashion trends but these things aren’t free. So to fill up your wallet you may need to get a job. There are many career options in the game that you can join in order to make some Simoleons money.

Little Sim World Release Date – Pre-Alpha Available Now

Little Sim World is currently still in development. You can support the game on Patreon and if you join any tier you will be able to join the pre-Alpha today.

If you want to be notified when the game becomes available on Steam, make sure to wishlist the game today and follow the team on Twitter.

    Little Sim World Platforms

You may wonder where you can play Little Sim World. The game will first release on PC and Mac and console launch such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox will follow shortly after.

With 2019 coming to a close, I wanted to take a moment to look back at all of the amazing games I’ve played and reviewed this year. I’d also like to give a special thanks to the developers and publishers that have supplied me with codes and gave me the chance to experience some real indie gems! There have been many awards given this past month, however I just wanted to highlight some wholesome games that I have spent a large amount of time playing.

Let’s start with farming sims because, for me, this category was the hardest one to narrow down to a select few because it is arguably my favorite genre and there were so many great indie games to go through!

    Alchemy Story

Created by solo developer Éloïse Laroche, this adorable art style caught my attention immediately from little chicks with bow ties to the happiest cows wearing bells. Alchemy Story is about saving the many villagers that have been cursed by a witch and using all of your skills as an alchemist to turn them from animals into humans again! This game has been on Steam Early Access since August 22nd, 2019 and continues to receive regular updates such as new characters and customization options.

    Littlewood

This adorable game with small pixels but huge heart, is all about making friends and having them move into your town. What I find most interesting about the town is how much you can make it your own by changing the elevation of the ground, placing your own paths and ponds, and much more! Created by sole developer Sean Young, this game has been on Steam since June and continues to grow with new features such as mini-games and pets! It has also been confirmed that this game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

    Staxel

Staxel is a voxel-style building game developed by Plukit and published by Humble Bundle. I played this game on Steam back in April and loved building homes for my villagers brick-by-brick. You can create anything you can imagine with blocks such as chicken coops, tool sheds, flowerbeds, and more! Also, the stores are really adorable to shop in and the workshops make creating things fun!

    Garden Paws

What can I say about Garden Paws that hasn’t already been said? I have spent the most amount of hours on this game on Steam that I have ever spent on a farming sim. It has everything from several quests, crafting/building, exploration, taming pets, farm animals, running a shop, fishing, mining, and more!

It’s hard to sum up everything I love about this adorable game and the creators keep adding more things to do with more islands, creatures, dungeons, festivals/events, and items that keep me returning to the world of Florens.

There are many other farming sims on my radar for the future, mainly Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, Doraemon Story of Seasons, Rune Factory 5, and basically anything I’ve talked about here. There are some games I have yet to finish, or at least play more of, like Re:Legend and Stranded Sails, and games like Stardew Valley that have such large new updates, they might as well be sequels! Stay tuned for my next category for another list of games I’ve played this year.

It’s been a while since the rumor mill around Fable 4 had received any new fuel. It was back in June when some news about Fable 4 being completely open world spread like a wild fire. Today some interesting looking Fable 4 Concept Art appeared online and I couldn’t be more excited!

Fable is a long running franchise that many people fell in love with. Immersing yourself deep in the story of an open-world role playing game is one of the best parts about being a gamer. Become whoever you want and shape the world around you to your liking. All of your deeds reflecting on the community, changing your atmosphere in cool and sometimes surprising ways. That is Fable and almost no other gaming franchise has achieved quite the same atmosphere as Fable has. Now we might be getting a new Fable game sooner rather than later!

    Fable 4 Concept Art

The Concept art leaked by twitter user Klobrille who recently discovered the beautiful artwork of a Brazilian concept artist named Rodrigo Idalino. The art was created for an upcoming and currently unannounced Fable game. It was leaked through Rodrigo who recently updated his portfolio to showcase his latest art.

    Update:

Rodrigo Idalino asked myPotatoGames to remove the images from this article to protect his work, therefore all concept art related to Fable 4 have been taken down. Whether this confirms a Fable 4 is in progress or the artwork was just a passion project is not clear. I will make sure to update this article once more details emerge.

This is a common thing to happen and already happened in the past with artists publishing art online that game companies may not want to be revealed just yet. An Electronic Arts artist revealed concept art for an unnanounced The Sims multiplayer game that was later on changed to become The Sims 4.

Regardless if this is what Fable 4 will look like or not, it seems that there is a new Fable game in development with more and more rumors popping up right and left. I am so ready to embark on a new Fable adventure, are you?

The Sims has been one of the best selling PC games of all time, and back in 2002, publisher EA thought that taking it online and making The Sims Multiplayer is exactly what fans wanted. While many fans of the series enjoyed the The Sims Online, the game had essentially shut down for good in 2008, now there is a new chance to play The Sims Online once again.

TSO short for The Sims Online, was a subscription based online MMO in which players could run their own shop, casino or even a “skill house” where players would gather together to enhance their skills such as body strength, creativity and more. I throughly enjoyed the experience and always thought that The Sims should feature some sort of multiplayer since the MMO had shut down. A refused kiss means so much more if a real player denies your smudgy lips, rather than a decision made by an old dusty NPC.

    FreeSO
    Crashing a weeding in FreeSO?

There is something so unique about playing a simulation game in the grand scale of a MMO. Building your shop and have real players purchase your goods is so satisfying, running a casino and overlooking real players gambling, or opening a restaurant have actual people enjoy your establishment adds a lot the gameplay.

The Sims Online essentially was no longer supported by EA and players were left alone in these huge beautiful Sim-towns with no update for years. In 2007 a small core team within EA revived TSO, changed the name to EA land and introduced tons of new features, including custom content. The game quickly gained in popularity but EA unforutenly did not believe in the future of the game and decided to finally and once and for all pull the plug on the fans favorite game, it seemed TSO had vanished forever.

The games community still lived on through social media and eventually some super dedicated fans started a project to revive The Sims Online from the dead again. The project is called FreeSO and it is essentially a rebuild of the original TSO with enhanced 3D graphics and dozens of additional new features. One of the latest addition adds the ability to upgrade furniture and make them better, this of course comes at a hefty price!

    FreeSo Upgrade Furniture
Latest feature adds ability to upgrade furniture

Since the project was started the developers and community have dramatically improved the aged game. New features like Mayor voting, beautiful new graphics, seasonal events and more have made its way into the game.

FreeSO as the name states is free to play and after a long battle with EA the developers of this game have found an agreement with the publisher that allows them to run the game. If you wonder what The Sims Online was like, or would just like to have an amazing The Sims Multiplayer experience, then we strongly suggest to check out the FreeSO project.
