Lost Ember, created by Mooneye Studios, was announced during this year’s E3 to be releasing this past July 2019. However, during the same month, the developers stated they needed more time to polish the game and rework the story, therefore it will be delayed to a later date. As of October 28th, 2019, we finally get a release date of November 22nd, 2019 for Steam, GOG, Xbox One, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch! See below for the brand new trailer with beautiful graphics and soundtrack, and take a look at those wombats! How cute!

While in Lost Ember your main playable character is the wolf, you can possess any other animal and experience flying, digging, swimming, and climbing! While we wait less than a month to be able to play, let’s look at these confirmed animals with a list, including a fish and a mole! Other animals mentioned are: a tortoise, sloth, mountain goat, parrot, duck, yak, and eagle. For more about the game, you can check out the official website here.

Megaquarium is a management tycoon game created by Twice Circled and Auroch Digital. Become an expert in aquatic life and run your very own theme park by managing tanks and staff all while keeping your fish and guests happy! Megaquarium was previously released on Steam in 2018 with very positive reviews. Now, Megaquarium is available on consoles starting today (October 18th, 2019)! I’d like to thank Auroch Digital for providing us with a Nintendo Switch copy of Megaquarium for the purpose of a review which you can read about below!

In Megaquarium you can choose to play in Sandbox mode where you can play around with settings and random challenges or Campaign mode with 10 levels of main goals and tutorials. You might be thinking it will be easy enough to learn everything on your own if you’re familiar with the genre, however, there’s a lot more to it than just placing fish in tanks! Fish will have very detailed needs and types that will have you taking extreme care with size, temperature and design of your tanks. In the beginning you are very limited with your choices of livestock, equipment and tools and I originally thought the game was slow-moving but the more I unlocked, the more I was thankful for taking smaller steps to make sure I fully understood everything.

    Fishy Information

Every fish has a number for their size which has to be taken into consideration when building the size of your tank as it will have a maximum amount it can hold. Not only that, the size will factor in when dealing with predators and the possibility of those bigger fish eating the smaller ones. Although, some of those smaller fish may have an extra size added due to their “armor”. Next, you’ll want to know if the fish requires a certain number of plant-life, rocks or shelters so as not to stress them out.

Read all of the information provided because some extra alerts will be important when you start placing different species together. For example, some fish are “wimps” and others are “bullies” and they obviously can’t be placed together. There are also warnings that will outright tell you if the fish are a danger to softer livestock such as starfish or corals. There are also some fussier fish that need to be the only one of their kind in a single tank or others that need to be with a school of fish with a base number to fulfill.

    Choosing and Building Tanks

Different styles of tanks will be unlocked the further you play the main game which will mostly be for aesthetic purposes with the exception of the Kreisel tank which is the only one that can be used for jellyfish. All tanks are pre-built with where the window panes for viewing and the walls that are up for privacy will be. Some tanks will go deeper into the floor and others will be tall and need a platform with stairs so your staff can access them. You have control of where you want to place your tank and the size so have an idea of your aquarium layout and design when deciding on which tank to use.

Your fish will either be tropical or cold and need equipment for the tanks accordingly. All tanks will require filters to enhance your water quality. The amount of equipment needed depends on the size you’re using (small, medium, large), as well as which fish and how many you plan to put in that tank. You’ll soon discover that your guests dislike seeing your heaters, chillers, filters and the like, and therefore you’ll need to hide all of it behind walls! This becomes really fun to place when you have access to pumps which can reach tanks from a distance rather than needing to connect your equipment right next to them. Just attach your equipment to pumps, adding more as needed in order to reach all your tanks. Your individual fish will have a number of water quality and temperature minimum in order to survive.

    Guest Needs and Prestige

Your prestige comes from happy guests and everything in your aquarium which is important to increase. This will unlock new facilities, tools, decorations, livestock, etc. After a specific amount, you’ll “rank up” which will either give you access to those items right away or allow you to research them. Research adds yet another layer to your choice of fish and decor because all of them will have points that go toward “ecology”, “science”, both or neither. Ecology research allows you to discover new livestock and science research allows you to unlock more or better equipment. Every single guest that views your individual tanks will contribute to adding up all of these points just once. Therefore, even if your fish don’t require plants and decor, fill up your tanks with them anyway to get the most out of them!

You can really go in-depth with the thoughts of your guests, or you can simply look over their heads for handy icons that display whether they need to eat, drink, rest or go to the bathroom. Vending machines (garbage cans to go with them), seating and toilets will do the trick and they don’t take up that much room either! Your decorations can be placed both in tanks and out but I like to keep my aisles clear for my staff to get to places faster and my guests to not wonder around aimlessly. I do wish I could put up paintings or something on the walls but you can at least change the colors as you unlock them. However, doing that is a bit of a pain because you can’t paint multiple walls at the same time.

    Hiring Staff

You’ll need staff first and foremost to feed your fish and fix your equipment when it breaks down. When choosing from a list of a few people you can hire, there are set skills and traits that need your attention. I ignored all of the traits and it hasn’t affected me while playing on “Normal” although I’m sure they have their uses when trying to master the game. What you need to worry about is how many points they already have in the following: Feeding, Fixing, Cleaning, Gift Shop, Talking, etc.

    Managing Staff, and Tools

You can adjust the priority of their tasks once you’ve hired them if they are more skilled in specific areas. Eventually you’ll be able to level up your staff and either upgrade their current skills or add new ones. You can also assign them to certain areas but I find that also unnecessary at this stage if you have planned out the layout of your aquarium properly (i.e. tools close by and unobstructed). Also, if you place your equipment behind walls as you should, make sure to create “staff doors” so they can access the rooms.

Everything in this game has been really helpful when indicating in red if something you are trying to do is not going to work out and why. Your staff need to be able to reach all of your equipment and therefore you cannot bunch up everything together. To fix these broken down machines you’ll need to place toolkit stands nearby which allow for only one staff member to use at one time. I find it beneficial to place one toolkit per cluster of pumps and equipment. Your staff will also need brooms for cleaning up trash, sinks for cleaning toilets, among other tools that become available later on. Make sure you have the right food containers out for your fish so your staff can feed them. Again, if your tank needs anything, make sure to pay attention to the icons above them.

    Graphics and Animations

At first it bothered me that the background outside of your aquarium is completely bare, however, once I noticed the level of attention to detail of the fish, I’m glad that that’s where the focus was placed. I love tycoon games that allow you to not only have an overhead view, but to zoom in as if you were a guest as well. You can really look inside of your tanks and see your different colored fish move around!

It seems like the developers took extra care in learning the different movements and behaviors of the hundreds of livestock provided. You can really feel like an aquatic-life expert yourself once you have several tanks and fish living in harmony! The guests can use a little more variety in appearance but I find it kind of hilarious when they purchase, say a drink, and there’s a large bottle that appears in front of them while they walk around until they are finished.

    Music and Sound

I’m pretty sure there is only one song that continually plays on a loop in the game but I found myself concentrating so hard on making sure none of my fish get eaten that I hardly paid attention. The sound effects are kind of loud and abrupt so I recommend turning that down a little. Since there is quite a lot of text that needs to be read on your screen in several different menus, it can be difficult to see if you’re a potato like me with poor eyesight. It’s a shame that you can’t zoom in on the text and that the menus aren’t color-coordinated to make things much easier.

The amount of intricate gameplay in Megaquarium makes it so that you do not miss taking care of other animals, and rather enjoy specializing in aquatic-life only. With so much to do for your tanks, it can be so much fun designing your entire aquarium! If you’re interested in trying out this game for yourselves, here’s the link for the Nintendo Switch version.

Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Travelers is a beautiful game about a town called Clocknee, and a little girl named Sherry who is trying to save it.  Everything is proceding as normal on December 31, 1999, until the clock strikes midnight. What should have brought in the year 2000, instead freezes the entire town of Clocknee in time. Even the New Year’s fireworks are frozen in the sky above them.

Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Travelers fireworks in Clocknee

And while everything stops for the people and time itself in that moment, Sherry is not frozen in time.  Nor are the machines.  When everything else froze, all of the machines came to life!  Televisions, toasters…all manner of ordinary appliances…become robots Sherry has to face in turn-based combat.

    Beautiful art, beautiful music

The character art style of Destiny Connect is highly reminiscent of a Pixar movie.  We were pleasantly reminded of Toy Story when we were enjoying the sights of picturesque Clocknee alongside Sherry. And check out the official site to get an earful of that beautiful soundtrack!

The main characters we’ve met so far are stuffed with personality.  Sherry is a tough but headstrong little girl, and her friend Pegreo is smart and sensible, but very timid.

But even if she finds companions along the way, what could a handful of children possibly do, to start time flowing in Clocknee again?  To her surprise, she learns that her father had a robot in his office.  The robot’s name is Isaac, and he can time-travel.

Left with no other options, Sherry must make use of Isaac’s abilities and travel to the past (and the future!) to try to figure out what went wrong in Clocknee.  We look forward to being alongside her to help solve the mystery…and to enjoy the game’s beautiful soundtrack the whole while.

The release date for Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Travelers is October 22, and will be available on Switch and PS4. Watch an overview trailer here! If you’re intrigued by games where you can time-travel, check out Mr. Tic Toc & the Endless City.

Jenny LeClue is a thrilling crime-solving game created by indie developer Mografi (Joe Russ), based in Florida. You can download a free playable demo on iOS here and PC here (Gumroaditch.io). The game is set to release this Fall 2019 on Steam, Humble, iOS, Android, Windows, OSX, Linux, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch. Become a detective and make hard choices along the way while trying to find the real killer behind this murder mystery.

    About Jenny LeClue

Jenny LeClue is a handcrafted adventure with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and a unique aesthetic. It’s also a coming-of-age story about the blurred lines between right and wrong. This is a game about your choices and how they affect Jenny and the author’s story. It’s a rich metanarrative with delightful surprises and interactions. Jenny LeClue also explores mature themes, complex characters, and an epic tangled mystery.

You play as Jenny, a brilliant young detective, living in the idyllic college town of Arthurton. Jenny is a sharp-eyed, relentless pursuer of the truth. But nothing exciting happens in Arthurton, and Jenny longs for real adventure.

Jenny gets more than she bargains for when her mother is accused of murder, and begins an unexpected journey to find the truth. She soon discovers every cloud has a dark lining, and nothing in Arthurton is what it seems. Unseen forces will stop at nothing to keep Jenny from the truth. And she will have to use all her skills of deduction to find the real killer.

    Key Features

    • Beautiful Handmade Art Style – Sleek and gorgeous hand drawn style with vintage midcentury aesthetics.
    • A Living World – The goal is for everything to be interactive, to reward players who poke and prod at every last item and object with insight, secrets, and humor.
    • Choosiness On A Massive Scale – Players will make choices in their individual game, and some of those choices will be tallied to permanently influence subsequent chapters, essentially “writing” the story collaboratively. The choice players make about the cliffhanger ending of episode one determines the beginning of episode two.
    • Female Protagonist – Jenny is a brilliant young detective, sharp eyed, intuitive and a ruthless pursuer of the truth.
    • Dialogue With A Twist – Jenny is able to move the camera around during dialogue scenes and observe the subject for visible clues that might reveal their guilt or innocence that would otherwise go undetected.
    • Story Within A Story – Jenny LeClue weaves a rich metanarrative. The “author” of Jenny’s adventures, Arthur K Finklestein, acts as narrator and guide, but his presence also allows you to change the way Jenny’s story is written. Players choices will also affect Finklestein’s own story.
    • Not Just For Kids – Complex relationships will be explored with themes of family, loss, and identity influenced by horror, sci-fi, and mystery genres.
    • A Diverse Cast Of Characters & Locations – Explore Arthurton’s expansive world including the abandoned mines, the forgotten graveyard, the misty mountains, the old observatory, the police station, the shops and eateries on Main Street, and Gumboldt University’s Library. You will meet many intriguing and suspicious characters, in a town whose population is representative of the US Census demographics.

Temtem is about seeking adventure in the lovely Airborne Archipelago alongside your Temtem squad. Catch every Temtem and battle tamers around the world. This MMO is created by Crema and has just released its Alpha 0.2.5 with quite the large updates which you can read in more detail from Crema here. You can also check out all the other updates with us right here if you missed them last time. The game is estimated to release sometime in 2020 on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4. Below you can read the highlights on the newly added Breeding system and more!

    Breeding

If two Temtem are compatible, putting them together in the Breeding Center will create a new Egg. Eggs will eventually hatch into a new Temtem and they will be able to inherit some characteristics from their parents. The two parents will need to be one female and one male and of the same type (i.e. Fire, Electric). If a Temtem has two types, it will be compatible with other species from any of those two types.

    Temtem Fertility

Breeding Temtem in captivity will generate stress for the participants during the process. This stress is reflected in the fertility value of each Temtem. The fertility value is used to avoid over-exploitation of perfectly bred Temtem. Each captured Temtem will begin with a fertility value predetermined by how good they are (genetically speaking – each SV over 40 will reduce the fertility).

Each time a Temtem is used to breed an egg, they will permanently lose a fertility point. Additionally, the produced egg will inherit the fertility value from their parents (the lower value between the father fertility and the mother fertility). This way, fertility degradation will be pyramidal.

    Getting and Hatching Eggs

At the Breeding Center, a new egg will be generated in 40 (real-time) minutes after the couple is deposited. If both deposited Temtem are part of the same evolutionary line, the time will be reduced to 25 minutes. When the time is up, you will be able to get back the couple of Temtem and the generated egg. The egg will hold a level 1 Temtem and the species will be the first form of the mother’s evolutionary line.

The time required to hatch an egg can range between 5 to 40 minutes, depending on the capture rate of that Temtem species. Time will only pass as long as the Temtem is equipped in your Squad but you don’t need to move around in order for the egg to hatch.

To read more about the breeding process in Temtem and how to inherit traits, can do the Kickstarter update here.

    FreeTem! Initiative

The FreeTem! Initiative is our first approach to having methods of earning infinite Pansuns and to keep all players entertained after the campaign is over. Take into consideration that this is just one of the methods that will be available in the final game.

The idea is to promote that all Temtem should be free and sent back to the wild. Therefore, you will be rewarded for every Temtem released. Furthermore, each week there will be an additional special reward upon reaching a certain number of freed Temtem. The rewards will be different every week so players are encouraged to check them frequently to not miss anything.

    Emotes & Quest Tracker

Temtem is filled with sidequests and sometimes even the main quest can be a bit daunting due to all the different areas of the Archipelago. This is why there’s now a Quest Tracker!

It will show the most recent quests with instructions on how to proceed. In the future, the Quest Tracker will be expanded with a full quest log which will allow you to check every single quest. The last highlighted feature is the emotes! Emotes will allow players to express themselves much better! Currently there’s four emotes available with new ones to come in the future.

Of course for more creature-collecting goodness you can check our articles here: Pokemon Rumble Rush Now More Accessible and Pokemon Masters: A Closer Look With The New Trailer.

We had previously mentioned this breathtakingly beautiful adventure simulation game was coming to Windows, Mac, Steam, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2019. However, the developers, studio Chibig, have just announced today that they will be self-publishing which will take a lot more work and time! During the winter months the team will be working on localization, platform ports (the Nintendo Switch version is already functional), and testing. Meaning, the release date has been delayed to February 2020. Don’t worry though, we believe it will be well worth the wait! See below for what we can look forward to and check out their Kickstarter page here for more information.

Summer in Mara is centered around the main island Qälis, a small town with different Qüidos, humans, cat-children, and a few Elit. In this city, you can see the mixture of cultures scattered all through Mara. In Qälis, you will meet people, trade with them, and discover lots of secrets about Mara’s exotic and ancient structures. You’ll be able to befriend all of these villagers but you’ll also be able to craft, grow livestock, and plant trees and crops!

About Some of the Local Shops and Villagers

The Market: Three twins run this place, but be careful with them, since they can be really tricky.

Qälis Temple: Meet Blu, a strange individual that doesn’t talk much. But when Blu talks… nobody knows what he meant.

Taka’s Restaurant: He’s a famous and great chef, but very traditionalist. Brram, his nephew, wants to be like his uncle but also wants to explore the galaxy.

The Forge: Akaji is the blacksmith in Qälis. In her forge, you can see her latest work. Like, well, can you see what emerge from the ground?

The Adventurer: Onzo is a cat-child, but also the adventurer like you! He keeps all kind of stories in his diary!

Awan’s Tavern: It’s a great place to enjoy a different meal. But a lot of Qüidos don’t like this kind of “cuisine”.

The Other Villagers: Taima is a pirate that doesn’t know what pirates are, Fink is an Elit engineer, and Mayo is the worst waitress in Mara.

Studio Chibig plans on keeping us all updated on the progress of the game more often and will be letting all of their backers know more about the physical rewards which will still be releasing on schedule. In the meantime, check out our articles Ahoy Potatoes! Stranded Sails Announces Release Date and Platforms and Critter Cove: An In-Depth Interview on this Cute Adventure on the High-Seas for more island adventures!
