Craft Potions, Use Spells, Grow Critter Companions, Meet Ghostly Locals, and Explore a Mysterious Island

Much like our beloved Potions Paws and Little Witch in the Woods, Critter Crops: Mystery of Mullery Mansion is a game where you happen upon an abandoned magical place where you can cultivate the land.

You play as a young banished witch named Sylvie and grow crops that become critter companions, as well as explore and gather resources for potion-making. While uncovering the mysteries of Mutter Island, you’ll meet outcasts looking to find refuge from the Otherworld and you can offer them a place to stay. Befriend the ghostly inhabitants there and help them revitalize Mur Mur Town.

As for the aforementioned creature companions, all of them are Halloween-themed crops. For example, there’s a blueberry bat, a pumpkin cat, a mummified mushroom, and more! However, like Drake Hollow, you’ll have to be ready to defend your children from nasty Weeaters with spells.

Available in Q4 2022 on Steam and Q3 2023 on Epic Games and Switch

Critter Crops: Mystery of Mullery Mansion is developed by Skyreach Studio and published by Freedom Games. You can Wishlist this adorably spooky farming simulation RPG on Steam here or Epic Games here. If you want to back it on Kickstarter go here. The game is already funded but there’s still time to reach that Nintendo Switch port Stretch Goal! Don’t forget to try the demo while you’re there! *UPDATE: Switch confirmed 2023*

Slopecrashers is an upcoming indie eSports title that puts you in the role of a gnar-shredding lemur.

I am usually not too fond of eSports titles, as they are often not cute and tend to make me more frustrated than excited. It appears, however, that Slopecrashers will certainly be an exception to this trend. With the most adorable little critters to play as, and some pretty cool looking gameplay, I can tell that this is one sporty indie that I can’t wait to try.

    Slopecrashers

    What is Slopecrashers.

Slopecrashers is basically a cute snowboarding/racing game that functions a bit like a mixture of Mario Kart and SSX. You get the cool feel and smooth play style of a snowboarding game, and the exciting competitive action that comes with a power-up influenced racer.

Choose from a multitude of different animals to play as. I believe I saw a lemur, parrot, chicken and a penguin so far. You will also be able to unlock costumes, boards and many characters through gameplay. A must have for any proper competitive racing game.

    Slopecrashers

Do crazy stunts and wicked tricks to gain points during the race. Flip, grab, glide and grind your way to the top position and show all your friends just how adorable you can be while kicking some butt! Collect the different power ups to gain boosts and throw obstacles at your opponents.

Speaking of opponents, Slopecrashers already offers local multiplayer, and with the way things are looking, I would expect to see online multiplayer somewhere down the line. The developers are currently working to release the game on Nintendo Switch first, then later on PC.

    More info.

For more information on Slopecrashers, you can check out the official website of the developers, byteparrot. For up-to-date info on the game, be sure to follow the dives on Twitter.

I truly don’t know where the year went. It’s been an interesting year, and it’s certainly been full of a ton of top-tier games. We’ve seen the release of Palia, a lovely cozy MMORPG that lets you gather friends and strangers alike to farm, mine, and more. The Moonlight Peaks demo dropped recently, too! Then there’s Spells & Secrets, a great roguelite wizarding adventure. dotAGE is the perfect survival city builder. And Roots of Pacha takes top spot for my favorite farming game this year. Some other notable games are Spirit City: Lofi Sessions and Smushi Come Home. But what’s in store for next year? Well, time will tell, but here are nine games to look forward to in 2024!

    Little Kitty, Big City

First on the list is Little Kitty, Big City! You play as a kitty who’s lost in a big city. You can hurry on your way and find home, or you can take time to explore this brand new place. The demons are the fears and vices of the townspeople that have come to life. As Emily, figure out the mysteries and the disappearances and save the souls of everyone! Face off against giant demons and dungeon bosses in the Underside using a turn-based combat system. Fight alongside your friends, who each have their own sets of abilities, as well as summon your own inner demons. Even capture new creatures to use in other battles by weakening them during combat.

    Coming to Steam and PlayStation!

    Chilltown

Third on the list is Chill Town! This game promises to be a soothing blend of idle game and life sim. You run around collecting resources on a beautiful island. Catch bugs, visit the shops or town hall, fish, farm, and tame cute creatures. Unleash your creativity in build mode and create your perfect home using a variety of different decor items. Tavern Talk

Sixth on the list is Tavern Talk, where you find yourself to be the owner of Wayfarer’s Inn. It appears to be a normal inn in the middle of the world, but looks can be deceiving. SunnySide also features a colorful cast of characters for you to interact with. Life in the small town is peaceful, but not without its problems. What sets this game apart from the other farm sim games is that it seeks to combine modernism with the old.

Platypus Adventures is an action-adventure, story-driven single-player game currently in early development by solo developer David Richards. We here at myPotatoGames spoke with the creator himself during an interview about some of his future plans and things he is currently working on. David Richards was inspired by the Australian beauty that surrounds him and wanted his artwork to feature that subject matter to which he is deeply passionate. All characters in the game will be anthropomorphic animals based in Australia. The platypus is an extremely iconic animal in his hometown, and since they happen to be his favorite, wanted to raise awareness on these beautiful creatures.

You mentioned the animals will be anthropomorphic. Do they speak?

David: The sound they make is a single localisation and not an entire spoken sentence. You’ll see the translation of sorts via speech bubbles above their heads. I’ve effectively recorded a bunch of vocal cues from voice actors to date.

Is there a story? Does this platypus have a long journey ahead?

David: The game has some sci-fi themes and some darker themes which I haven’t touched on yet. It’s a relatively short game that could last about 2.5 hours.

What kind of gameplay mechanics or actions players can perform?

David: There’s swinging, climbing, swimming, sliding and a whole lot more! There’s this whole action side that includes combat, that I haven’t really shown off yet. For the most part, the gameplay consists of environmental hazards which are all completely unique to each area. Exploration is key here as there will be no mini-map or anything like that. Meaning, you have to guide yourself around the world using real visual cues in-game.

Are there any secrets for the players to discover?

David: Yes there are huge secrets! Some are even very hard to find. So hard actually, that I don’t expect people to ever find them. Others are more obvious, and are supposed to be seen. For example: I’ve signed my name in the game, and I’ve got a little shout-out to the love of my life in there too, etched on a rock.

Are planning to release Platypus Adventures on PC?

David: PC for sure. I’m looking into some pretty big prospects, which could allow me to do a console release too however this would probably add at least another year of development time.

Follow the progress of Platypus Adventures on Twitter here and on the Discord channel here. We had previously mentioned this breathtakingly beautiful adventure simulation game was coming to Windows, Mac, Steam, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2019. However, the developers, studio Chibig, have just announced today that they will be self-publishing which will take a lot more work and time! During the winter months the team will be working on localization, platform ports (the Nintendo Switch version is already functional), and testing. Meaning, the release date has been delayed to February 2020. Don’t worry though, we believe it will be well worth the wait! See below for what we can look forward to and check out their Kickstarter page here for more information.

Summer in Mara is centered around the main island Qälis, a small town with different Qüidos, humans, cat-children, and a few Elit. In this city, you can see the mixture of cultures scattered all through Mara. In Qälis, you will meet people, trade with them, and discover lots of secrets about Mara’s exotic and ancient structures. You’ll be able to befriend all of these villagers but you’ll also be able to craft, grow livestock, and plant trees and crops!

About Some of the Local Shops and Villagers

The Market: Three twins run this place, but be careful with them, since they can be really tricky.

Qälis Temple: Meet Blu, a strange individual that doesn’t talk much. But when Blu talks… nobody knows what he meant.

Taka’s Restaurant: He’s a famous and great chef, but very traditionalist. Brram, his nephew, wants to be like his uncle but also wants to explore the galaxy.

The Forge: Akaji is the blacksmith in Qälis. In her forge, you can see her latest work. Like, well, can you see what emerge from the ground?

The Adventurer: Onzo is a cat-child, but also the adventurer like you! He keeps all kind of stories in his diary!

Awan’s Tavern: It’s a great place to enjoy a different meal. But a lot of Qüidos don’t like this kind of “cuisine”.

The Other Villagers: Taima is a pirate that doesn’t know what pirates are, Fink is an Elit engineer, and Mayo is the worst waitress in Mara.

Studio Chibig plans on keeping us all updated on the progress of the game more often and will be letting all of their backers know more about the physical rewards which will still be releasing on schedule. In the meantime, check out our articles Ahoy Potatoes! Stairway Games has announced the upcoming 1.1 update to their lovely farming sim, Coral Island! I, like many other gamers, have been eagerly waiting for the next update as the game is rather unfinished. However, the 1.1 update will add what many players have been impatiently waiting for: Merfolk relationships and romances! This update is essentially the ocean update and adds more than just relationships, though.

    What to Look Forward To

Coral Island is expanding its horizons with the 1.1 update by adding four new members to the Merfolk Kingdom. Get to know the ocean dwellers by building relationships with them through interacting and gifts. Learning their likes and dislikes will lead to them opening up to you about their story, but some of them might even fall in love with you! There’s even a new wedding location to discover for those of you who enjoy hunting down all of the options.

Of course, the name of this game is farming, and Coral Island certainly hasn’t left out the ocean for that. 1.1 will introduce a new plot of land for you to decorate and farm on. This time, it’s located under the water! There are new ocean crops for you to plant, as well as critters to raise. Take care of the aquatic creatures inspired by real life animals like the shellcluck, mermoo, inkhog, carapoultry, and seashroud. Each one produces new and useful products. And of course there is new ocean decor to decorate your underwater farm with.

The ocean and Merfolk aren’t the only ones being added to this update. According to the roadmap for Coral Island, 1.1 includes some other fun stuff. Players will finally get access to the Savannah, as well as new storylines and content. You’ll get to raise ostriches and buffalos on your farm, as well. Plus, there’s a new town rank to achieve, attractions, a tourist system, more outfits and decor, improvements to the dialogue system, and improvements to hats!

    Release Date

Coral Island’s 1.1 update is expected to release for Beta Access on May 20th! There will likely be more info about the full roll out for all platforms at a later date. You can find the game on Steam.
