A recent Animal Crossing: New Horizons summer update trailer has confirmed some features that fans have asked for from the start. Additionally, it also contained some unexpected things to anticipate in the July 3rd update. However, there is also strong evidence from dataminers and characters’ dialogue to suggest even more exciting additions.

Nintendo have already confirmed that New Horizons will receive updates for many more years, meaning that things players would like to see in the game still have a chance to be introduced. So without further ado, here are some rumored and confirmed features heading to Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

    Confirmed Features:

Starting off with the confirmed features to arrive in the July 3rd update is sea swimming and its related activities/items. Here is what you will be able to do upon completing the aforementioned update:

    • Obtain a basic wetsuit from Nook’s Crany for 3,000 bells (from the tools section of the shop) to take a dip in the ocean
    • Acquire a more slim-fitting style wetsuit from the Nook Stop terminal for 800 Nook Miles
(Whilst not yet confirmed, multiple variations of wetsuits were available in New Leaf, so it seems plausible that more styles may become available in New Horizons too)
    • Receive a free snorkel upon updating your game on July 3rd. Whether they are purely cosmetic, or have a function is not yet known. It is believed that you will receive the snorkel in your mailbox as a reward after the update
    • Choose from several different colored snorkels at the Nook Stop terminal for 500 Nook Miles each, according to the official Japanese Nintendo website. Red, yellow, and blue snorkels have been spotted in official screenshots so far.
    • Jump (or somersault) into the ocean, swim around, dive for sea creatures, and maybe even receive some wise words “maaaaan”
    • Donate sea creatures such as sea stars, sea anenomes, spotted garden eels, plus more to the museum
    • Any donations will be exhibited in the aquarium section of the museum alongside the fish
    • Pascal the ‘philosophical’ otter will make a return and might be encountered whilst you are diving for deep sea creatures
    • Pascal may request to trade some of any creatures you find in retunr for DIY recipes for furniture items
    • The pretty mermaid-themed furniture introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf returns in the form of the DIY recipes obtained by Pascal. Whilst the names of individual pieces of furniture have not yet been announced, you can view a list of the types of mermaid furniture here.
    • Gulliver has seemingly turned into a pirate… (Nobody even knows what’s happening here, it is Gulliver after all…). Sailor, astronaut, pirate, make up your mind birdbrain! And get a Sat Nav! Please!
    • ‘Wave’ 🌊 (sorry) one of the free summer update will be available on July 3rd. The second part of the free update will be downloadable at the beginning of August 2020.

    Rumored Features:

    • Ninji, a dataminer who has taken to Twitter to share his Animal Crossing: New Horizons theories, believes the following features will eventually appear in an update. I am inclined to believe him, as he was spot on with the Museum art gallery, the ‘return‘ of ‘Jolly’ Redd, and now the ability to go swimming.
    • According to a ‘leek’ 💁‍♀️ of Ninji’s, players could be able to plant vegetables in a future update. If he’s correct, we may soon be growing tomatoes, wheat, sugar cane, potatoes (Henry is disgusted and appalled FYI 😂), carrots, pumpkins, and potentially more. 🥔🥕🍅
    • Ninji added that the vegetables you grow can be sold, but more importantly, could play a part in an exciting new gameplay feature. Fans may soon be able to prepare dishes to help with stamina or sweeten up islanders with gifts. Sound like Stardew Valley anyone? 😜🌾🍽️
    • This brings us onto the possibility of seafood. The summer update has obviously now confirmed deep sea creatures. However, a short while back a datamine uncovered a ‘Seafood’ Critterpedia file containing 33 items not currently in the game. Therefore, if a cooking feature was implemented, it seems reasonable that seafood could be part of it.
(Deep sea creatures confirmed so far)
    • Correct in regards to the art gallery museum upgrade and return of the shady NPC Redd, dataminer Ninja believes that the museum still has more to give. If correct, we could be seeing a museum gift shop, and two standalone museum-related buildings. These are thought to be a cafe (which will hopefully mean the return of Brewster), and a building featuring a Gyroid section! Naturally, this would mean the return of the Jedi slightly creepy gyroids.
    Animal crossing new horizons gyroids
    • And on the topic of buildings, let’s talk shop(s) 🛍️. Within the game’s code, Ninja discovered files suggesting shops/buildings such as a gallery, a real estate agent, a gardening store, and the aforementioned museum shop. Could the addition of a real estate agent mean the return of Kyle? Or maybe his niece Lottie? If so, this guy will be displeased: 😂
    • The firework art that features at the end of the wave 1 update suggests that the summer Fireworks Show could be coming back with a ‘bang’ 🎆. I’ll let myself out. 🚪🚶‍♀️

It is likely painfully obvious that MyPotatoGames adores Animal Crossing. Additionally, as a website that provides wholesome video game news, it seemed imperative to create the following article. An article that is a crossover between Animal Crossing: New Horizons and various games which get a thumbs up from MPG.

It is true that we have featured some video game design ID codes in previous articles. However, this crossover article features a huge variety of some seriously cool video game-themed Animal Crossing: New Horizons designs that you can use in the game.

How To Obtain Custom Designs Using ID Codes

Getting the custom designs app on your NookPhone will allow you to create your own designs and to scan QR codes created by others into your game. However, in regards to clothing with QR codes, you will only be able to place tiles, or wear designs as tank tops. However, you can use Nook Miles to purchase the Pro Design upgrade. The upgrade can be purchased from the Nook Stop terminal at Residents Services for a reasonable 800 Nook Miles.

This will allow you to create different items of clothing as ‘Pro Designs’. There are various types of clothing you can then choose from. Examples include balloon-hem dresses, hoodies, sweaters, coats and more. You can also scan QR codes of Pro Designs from New Leaf.

However, to do this, you need to unlock the Able Sisters clothing shop on your island. In New Horizons, the Able Sisters don’t just sell clothing. The prickly pair have a curious kiosk located at the back of their store. Here, you can save and share designs made in Animal Crossing: New Horizons via Creator ID codes, or Individual Design ID codes.

Providing you have a Switch Online Membership, (and have purchased the Pro Design upgrade), you can use this feature. And despite the game being just a few months old, there are already an astounding number of awesome fanmade designs via the kiosk’s portal. Here are just a few of the best gaming-themed ones:

    Indie Video Game Design Codes:

    Mario Video Game Design Codes:

    Zelda Video Game Design Codes:

    Pokémon Video Game Design Codes:

Animal Crossing Video Game Design Codes:

    Other Video Game Design Codes:

And as the top potato of MyPotatoGames, Henry naturally had to have his very own t shirt as well 😆🥔

If you enjoyed this article, why not check out some awesome Pop Culture Design ID codes for New Horizons here.

It’s true that MyPotatoGames posted an article on things that fans would like to see in the game. However, some of these have now been fulfilled. Additionally, as a few months have passed, players have noticed more things that would make the gameplay experience more enjoyable. Whether it be slight glitches, some multiplayer issues, spontaneous travelling merchants, etc, there are definitely a few more features and improvements that players would like to see.

I took the effort to ask fans what features they would like and improvements that could be made. There’s no denying that the game is extraordinarily entertaining, but take notes Nintendo, as I received hundreds of responses. 😂 Here are some features that would improve Animal Crossing: New Horizons even further.

Nintendo did promised us at least three more years of updates coming to New Horizons so hopefully we will be seeing at least some of these features in the game one day!

General Island-Related Features To Improve Gameplay

    • Having two separate options when terraforming (build and destroy) to save so much time, effort and frustration, and lessen the chance of a Switch console being yeeted out of a window.
    • Campers being able to roam around your island when visiting
    • Having more items on sale in Nook’s Cranny
    • Not being followed around by Mabel and the Nooklings when browsing in their shops (social distancing is a thing guys! Don’t make me get my yard stick!) 😂
    • Allow bridges and inclines to be built the same day
    • Return of the Jedi ever so slightly creepy gyroids.
    • An island planner (like the ones online) that make laying paths, terraforming, relocating things, etc, easier
    • Being able to relocate the town square. Many players have unfortunately ended up with theirs very close to the airport. However, that’s not to say you can’t work around this. As these awesome island entrances demonstrate:

Features From New Leaf That Would Be Nice

    • Being able to swim in the sea (and look around underwater) 🏊
    • Furniture series such as the Mermaid Series, Princess Series, various Sanrio sets, etc. 😔
    • The introduction of more shops. I miss GracieGrace‘s furniture and clothing, as well as Leif’s gardening store 😭
    • Minigames/multiplayer minigames like on the New Leaf island tours
    • Animals popping over to your house, or scheduling times to come and visit
    • The return of the dream suite, or introducing a similar feature

Features From Pocket Camp That Would Be Nice

    • The addition of cute and quirky hairstyles and wigs from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
    • The addition of cool items from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. For example the cute tents, swings, ferris wheel, treehouse etc.
    • Animals being able to chill in pools, play on things, and interact with more items like they can in Pocket Camp

Characters From Previous Games That Need To Return

    • Pete (so I can shoot him down with a slingshot muahaha)
    • Tortimer (and his minigames)
    • Brewster (and The Roost)
    • Katrina
    • Pascal
    • Kapp’n
    • Phyllis. (She is my spirit animal)

    Features Regarding Visiting NPC’s

    • A genie’s lamp to trap Wisp the absolute pest in
    • Map markers to show where islanders and NPC’s are located on your island. (Celeste deserves to be featured in the Guiness World Records for best at hide and seek).
    • The ability to use Mom’s tissues to wipe Daisy-Mae’s snotty nose
    • A GPS ankle tracker for Gulliver (please!)
    • Bail Redd out of jail so he actually visits my island again

    Residents

    • The option to muzzle islanders who sing for two hours straight. JK. Kinda..
    • New dialogue for characters, as it can be quite repetitive
    • Give the animals a bit more personality
    • Getting more requests from animals, and receiving more interesting tasks
    • Allowing more villagers to inhabit your island. There’s just too many cute ones! Fans have suggested 12-15 would be a reasonable amount.
    • Having animals remember you if they leave and then move back in
    • BRING BACK THE SAVAGERY

    Events

Isabelle – (Yes she gets her own section 😂)

    • The ability to sack Isabelle make Isabelle use a swear jar, or rather, a ‘no-one-cares-that-my-new-magazine-arrived-or-that-I-found-a-missing-sock’ jar.
    • Have announcements from Isabelle when travelling merchants and special NPC’s such as Flick, Saharah, and Redd (when he does..😠) are visiting
    • Apart from news-that-isn’t-news, and the occasional announcement, Isabelle doesn’t really do a lot. Somebody give that poor doggo a purpose!

Features That Would Save Players Time And Effort

    • The ability to batch craft items
    • Being able to bulk buy items such as customization kits
    • Purchasing multiple items at once in the Able Sisters’ changing room
    • Stronger tool durability, or at least making golden tools indestructible like in previous Animal Crossing games
    • Being able to order more than 5 items from the shopping catalogue each day (I’m a shopaholic okay?!)
    • Being able to rotate the camera 360°
    • Having a bank card to use when shopping to avoid having to withdraw bells from the ATM in Residents Services

    Storage & Space

    • More storage space in your character’s home
    • Being able to store DIY materials in workbenches to save on storage space
    • Being able to store clothing and accessories in wardrobes to also save on storage space
    • The ability the access your storage when outside of your home
    • Being able to put flowers (stems) in storage. You can put three monster statues, a teacup ride, three jungle gyms, two oarfish and a shark in storage, but heaven forbid you try to store one white cosmos plant
    • MORE DESIGN SLOTS!!
    • Bigger side (and back) rooms in your house

    DIY Recipes

    • Being able to slap that duplicate DIY recipe out of an animal’s hand when they force you to take it. Kindly being able to decline duplicate DIY recipes offered by crafting animals.
    • Actually being able to put DIY recipes in your storage
    • Or introducing a storage box (or something similar) to store DIY recipes
    • More frequent balloon presents and message bottles containing DIY recipes

    Fun Features

    • A museum gift shop (as has been hinted)
    • A Nintendo app to link to the game that tracks steps (like the 3DS pedometer), and then rewards players with in-game items for exercising. (Two owls birds with one stone!).
    • A feature that allows players to cook! (all of the darn Sea Bass)
    • I wanna be able to kick the soccer ball and move about with it.. 🥺
    • Being able to do things like play minigames on the switch console items
    • The ability to participate in activities that islanders can do. For example, yoga, weight-lighting, tea-drinking in the square, dangerously running around with sticks in my hands, etc. Just the normal stuff 😊

    Decor-related Features

    • Being able to place rugs outside in order to save design slots for picnic blankets
    • The ability to decorate the interior and exterior of islanders’ houses
    • Custom paths making pattering noises like the other paths
    • Being able to make and design public buildings like in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer
    • The ability to place items at an angle
    • More bridge and incline designs to choose from

    Multiplayer, Dodo Airlines & Glitches

    • Improved, reliable, online gameplay with faster travel and less oopsies (we do pay for it with Switch Online after all)
    • The option to tie Orville’s beak together skip/speed through the chitter chatter when travelling with Dodo Airlines
    • Being able to open and close your gates remotely. It’s a pain when you forget to close them and then can’t terraform until you trek to the airport
    • The ability to hop from one island to another without having to fly back to your island first
    • Less glitches

Whilst it’s almost definite that not all of these features will be implemented, it would be fantastic if even a few of them were.

Please and thank you Nintendo 🙂

STRAY is an upcoming game that combines cyberpunk/cybercities, adventure, mystery-solving, and cats. The developers of STRAY, BlueTwelve Studio, are a small team from the south of France. Supposedly, they are “mostly made of cats and a handful of humans..”. Publishing STRAY is AnnaPurna Interactive, who also published the highly regarded ‘What Remains Of Edith Finch‘.

    The Origins Of STRAY:

STRAY originally started off as a concept called HK_Project. The premise being that players explored a strange/modern city as a stray cat. The few images and gifs that were floating about the internet became pretty popular and piqued the interest of many. A few years on, after many had forgot about HK_Project due to radio silence, the game made a surprising reappearance. On June the 11th 2020, an official announcement confirmed that the game, now entitled STRAY, will definitely be released. Even more excitingly, the game seems quite close to completion. The cyberpunk aesthetic, and awesome graphics of STRAY can be seen in the awesome trailer below:

    STRAY’s Gameplay & Plot:

The game’s official website says: “Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly.” As a lost and alone cat, players must “Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by nothing but unassuming droids and dangerous creatures.”

With no humans about, it’s clear that their are mysteries to unravel whilst you try to escape this weird cybercity.

Seeing as you are a feline after all, the game lets you ‘cat’ in some fun and playful ways. With danger present, you must obviously be stealthy and nimble. However, you can be silly and mischeivous whilst exploring the strange world too.

Whilst exploring, you will befriend a small flying drone, called B12. Between you and your new companion, you attempt to find a way out.

    STRAY’s Platforms, Release date, & Price(s)

The masterminds behind the game are aiming for a 2021 release. The game will definitely release on PC via Steam, as well as on PlayStation 5. It hasn’t been confirmed whether the game will be backward compatable with consoles such as the PS4. However, as the announcement is very recent, more information regarding gameplay, compatability, pricing, etc, is likely to emerge in the future. So make sure to stay tuned!

If STRAY piques your interest, why not check out a Street Cat’s Tale here?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons couldn’t have released at a better time. I know for me personally, its delayed release was a blessing in disguise. The game has facilitated online friendships with like-minded people (and therefore lessened loneliness) and been a wholesome distraction during these difficult times.

But these are just ways in which the game has helped me. Animal Crossing: New Horizons has helped people cope with so many other disappointments. For example, with many weddings having been cancelled, gamers have been creating virtual wedding ceremonies instead, something which is now considerably easier with Reese and Cyrus’s new wedding season furniture this month.

Students with postponed graduation ceremonies have been holding their very own, in-game birthday parties are now a common occurrence, and Black Lives Matter Designs are being made and shared so that players can still show support and solidarity. We are now in June (this year has flown!), which means that it’s finally Pride month!

Celebrate Pride in Animal Crossing New Horizons!

With Pride events being cancelled/disrupted, or being a very different experience from what most are used to, you may have sadly decided to give Pride a miss this year. But this doesn’t have to be the case! You can celebrate Pride in Animal Crossing: New Horizons in style with these fantastic fan-made LGBTQ+ designs. 😎

Animal Crossing: New Horizons mailed players yet another gift from their in-game Mom at the beginning of June. Players in the Northern Hemisphere received one (from eight different variations) of Mom’s Handmade Apron.

Whilst players in the Southern Hemisphere received one of the eight different variations of Mom’s Handmade Sweater. This is not the only thing that Nintendo has done differently for players living in the Southern Hemisphere this month.

    Apron Variations

Mom’s Handmade Apron – Animals Version:

Mom’s Handmade Apron – Denim Version:

    Mom’s Handmade Apron – ‘M’ Version:

Mom’s Handmade Apron – Forest Print Version:

Mom’s Handmade Apron – Family Version:

Mom’s Handmade Apron – Flowers Version:

Mom’s Handmade Apron – Fruits Version:

Mom’s Handmade Apron – Quilted Version:

    Sweater Variations

Mom’s Handmade Sweater – Animal Version:

Mom’s Handmade Sweater – Accent Peach Version:

    Mom’s Handmade Sweater – ‘M’ Version:

Mom’s Handmade Sweater – Chicks Version:

Mom’s Handmade Sweater – Quilted Pattern Version:

Mom’s Handmade Sweater – Star Version:

Mom’s Handmade Sweater – Teddy Bear Version:

Mom’s Handmade Sweater – Flowers Version:

It is thought that the style of gifts received from Mom will be the same throughout the year. This seems like it could be likely, as I have received three pink items in a row. It is thought the ‘style’ of items you receive changes each year. This is useful, as the clothing items cannot be customized like the furniture. Which apron or sweater did you receive?

Garden Story is an upcoming social simulation/adventure RPG where you play as a grape called Concord. The game is in development by Picogram and will be published by Rose City Games and VIZ Media for PC via Steam. Whilst a Spring 2020 release for Garden Story was hoped for, Picogram are still finetuning the game. They have however, released a demo version of the game entitled Garden Story: Autumn Town, which you can play here.

    About:

Players assume the role of Concord, who is a recently appointed village guardian. However, you will definitely be kept on your toes. Whether it be neighbours requiring assistance, or the sudden appearance of a strange rot that has seeped into the foundations of the once thriving island, Concord has his work cut out. Fortunately, he is not alone.

If you help friends with their problems, they’ll help you with yours. Care for the environment, explore new regions, solve puzzles, make new friends, and ultimately, help restore the grove to its former glory.

    Features:

    • Whilst restoring a run down island, players are also able to explore and cultivate the islands four regions as ‘Concord the Grape’.
    • By fulfilling residents’ requests, fostering relationships with others, and making friends with fruity people, you may find that these people will help you out in return.
    • Take care of garden plots, gather resources, and ensure to upgrade your tools to allow you to take good care of your home.
    • Whilst solving puzzles and defending yourself against the insidious rot, you may slowly unral the mystery behind the island’s broken past
    • By depositing and cataloguing resources you can create a library featuring the island’s lore.
    • At your own pace, you are able to care for garden plots each day, choose to take a walk in the evening, or you can concentrate on completing favors. The choice is yours!
    • Experience new things and fill your scrapbook with usable perks and traits.

You can visit the game’s website here. Alternatively, you can check out their Twitter account here.

    May update:

The people behind Garden Story recently gave an update on how the game is progressing. This is what’s new to Garden Story:

    • Labels have been added to jars so players know what type of dew a jar stores.
    • The in-game map, which shows the name and coordinates of each area, now has a handy Concord pin to show you where they are.
    • The game’s combat has been updated to be more satisfying. The pick art has more detail and the animation ‘packs a little bit more punch’.
    • The request board now has a floating bubble to alert you of new quests. In addition to the request board, there are general indicators above areas of interest as well. This helps players know where to explore if stuck.
    • Whilst harder to show, the team have been hard at work finetuneing the game’s storyline and ‘squashing bugs’.
    • And finally, Garden Story featured in the first ever Wholesome Direct. They described this as “an event that celebrated cozy vibes and kindness”. If you missed the Direct, don’t worry! You can watch the whole video here.

For regular updates, you can join the Garden Story Discord or follow them on Twitter.

I recently posted about the three new seasonal items that players could purchase throughout June. Well whilst browsing through the Nook shopping catalogue (like the shopaholic I am), I noticed that there were two more seasonal items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The two items cater for players in both the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere. This is yet another example of inclusivity in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and it’s great to see. You can read more about this here. 🥰

The items are both available under the seasonal tab of the Nook Shopping section of the NookStop terminal. Alternatively, if you’ve purchased enough items from the Nook Shopping catalogue, you may have unlocked the Nook shopping app on your NookPhone where they can also be bought.

    Summer-Solstice Crown

To mark the Summer Solstice, which occurs on the 20th June in the Northern hemisphere, there is now a crown consisting of sunflowers for players to buy. The Summer-Solstice crown costs 1,560 bells to buy, and is available until the 6th July

    Winter-Solstice Sweater

The Winter Solstice, also occurs on the 20th June, but in the Southern hemisphere instead. To mark the Winter Solstice, players can now buy a Winter-Solstice Sweater. The Winter-Solstice Sweater costs 1,200 bells to buy, and is also available until the 6th July.
