    Create Your Own Adventure

In Kokopa’s Atlas, play as clumsy little Kokopa, who fancies himself a galactic hero. He has crash landed on a mysterious new undocumented planet. Now, he’s stuck on this new planet and must create a new life for himself. Join Kokopa on his journey to explore this brand new planet and build himself a home and life.

The good news is Kokopa isn’t alone! As you explore, you’ll come across settlements with different NPCs to interact with. Plus, there are different kinds of creatures in the wilderness who interact with each other. Just be careful as some are aggressive! Also keep an eye out for other intergalactic troubles like space pirates. Can you keep your new home safe from all the threats this new planet has?

Spend your days in Kokopa’s Atlas however you want. Explore the wilds of the new planet and discover its secrets. Run quests for the various NPCs you may encounter. Craft yourself some new tools to use in your garden or adventures. Or even spend the day planning, plotting your homestead, and tending your garden. How you complete each game day is entirely up to you.

You’ll also have a biodroid assistant named Pollimero. The droid’s most useful and most powerful tool is the Scan-o-tron. When Kokopa activates it, a shortwave radar emits and picks up on terrain, resources, and even enemies. Little Pollimero will be one of Kokopa’s greatest assets when exploring this uncharted new world!

    Coming Soon!

Unfortunately, adorable Kokopa’s Atlas has no release date yet. It’s merely listed as “coming soon”, though you can add it to your Steam wishlist! In the meantime, check out one of the WIP videos from creator Rafael Martín a.k.a. HyperMegaPixel.

And of course, for more farming fun, check out Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire, Ooblets, or Monster Harvest.

Adventure, Gather, and Create With Friends in a Vibrant High Fantasy World

Palia is a free-to-play open-world MMO game that is still in the early stages of play testing. The game boasts sprawling and beautiful landscapes, as well as numerous avtivities. Players can look forward to an ever-changing adventure with quests and fun NPCs to encounter. However, the fun doesn’t stop there.

Palia will also include all of the fun hallmarks that makes Animal Crossing so entertaining, and more. Players will be able to choose from activities such as fishing, cooking, hunting, foraging, gardening, bug catching, and mining. Building and decorating a home will also be available. So, gather some friends and adventure together, or relax and build your homestead alone in the beautiful world of Palia.

The developers, Singularity 6, recently included a blog post about the update and the opening of the Alpha 2 testing phase, which shed only a little light on new features. What the update did reveal was new color palettes and new customization features for home decorating.

A decorated room in a home showing decoration options added in Alpha 2 phase.

    Alpha 2 Testing Phase

July 28th, 2022 saw the beginning of the Alpha 2 testing phase of play testing. Palia developers announced via their official Twitter and Facebook pages that they invited a new batch of players who signed up as playtesters, and Alpha 1 players are also able to return for Alpha 2. The developers are not only looking to remedy bugs and receive feedback on features, but they’re hoping to create a friendly and welcoming early game experience so players will be ready for what may come in the adventures later in the game.

Palia still does not have an official release date at this time. However, while expected to release first on PC, there is the possibility of console releases at a later date. And while you may have missed your invitation for the Alpha 2 testing phase, sign-ups for future testing phases are still open at http://palia.com.

While you wait for the game to release, scratch that relaxing and cozy sim game itch by checking out Sun Haven.

Soul Jump, Play the Ukelele, Customize, and Explore the Islands

Continuing today with The Summer Game Fest, Epic Games had their own showcase and caught my eye with Tchia. This sandbox adventure game is inspired by New Caledonia with mountains to climb, lagoons to dive in, and archipelagos to sail across! The new video with developer Awaceb below, gives us a look at the game feature of “soul-jumping”.

Soul jumping allows Tchia to take control of, not only over 30 types of animals, but over 100 objects as well! For example, you can fly in the sky as a bird, explore the ocean as a fish, and dig for treasure as a dog. With different abilities, you can solve puzzles and uncover hidden secrets. I mean, check out that coconut with sunglasses enjoying the beach.

Coming Early 2023 for PC and PS4/5

Tchia is coming to The Epic Games Store, but also the PS4 and the PS5 in early 2023. For more fun in the sun, check out Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara.

Fable 4 details were leaked by a Reddit user, and include some features we are super excited about!

    Fable

Immersing ourselves deep in the story of an open-world role playing game is one of the best parts about being a gamer. Become whoever you want and shape the world around you to your liking. All of your deeds reflecting on the community, changing your atmosphere in cool and sometimes surprising ways. The Fable series has been at the top of the RPG list since the release of its original title on September 14th, 2004. With the leak of possible details surrounding the imminent reveal at E3, it appears that will be living the Fable dream once again with Fable 4.

    The rundown…

A “Fable 4” has apparently been in the works for some time now, and will make an appearance very soon. The supposed details that were given mentioned that the game will take place in neither Albion nor Aurora. Instead, these lands have been destroyed by an asteroid. The game will also be a completely open world, instead of the old individually rendered zones like the original title.

Thanks to some time-travel shenanigans, there will no longer be guns available, just like in the first game. However, there will finally be an online option, so we can explore this brave new world together. Hopefully we will get to travel all the way back to the days of being the chicken chaser, and spend a few hours exploring all the different places and things to kick chickens at. It was also rumored that Fable 4 will feature town building, just one more added bonus that we are a bit overly excited about!

    The exact reddit post…

    • First/Third Person
    • In Depth character creator
    • Completely Open
    • No guns
    • Can ignore main quest and never become a hero
    • Players can build towns, ties into main quest heavily if you get the bad ending and fail
    • Multiplayer
    • Unreal Engine

Albion and Aurora are gone. “Lands reduced to fables.” The Spire was rebuilt and used by a mad king to wish that an asteroid would strike the planet. He also wished it would happen again in the far future. Eons later and everything is new (medieval themed, new continents) and you have to stop the destruction of the planet again. Theresa and a Heroes Guild are preserved on another planet via a demon door. Time Travel heavily involved in play. Jack of Blades returns. “

We will have more details as they are released with our coverage of this years E3 conference. For more information about the E3 conference, check out the official website by clicking here. For more open world RPG goodness, it’s always fun to check out My Time at Portia on myPotatoGames.

My Time At Portia and Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles are two very similar games regarding gameplay. People often wonder which game they should be playing and I’m here to help! Even though both would be a good recommendation, below you can find a small comparison of the two games to possibly help aid in your decision.

    Crafting

In both games, you get amazing items through crafting that make the games a lot more fun. The crafting gameplay can become a little tedious in both but is still an enjoyable experience. In Portia you need to run to and from each device to craft your items whereas in Yonder, everything is done the your bag menu. If you like the simplicity of it, Yonder has a good system but Portia has more roleplay and realism with using the devices.

    Fishing

Fishing in Portia and Yonder use very similar mechanics. The notable difference that I noticed was when comparing the two’s Fishing Tournament. Portia’s fishing tournament is great as it is one where you feel the suspense as you watch the number of fish go up from the other competitors. In Yonder, there is absolutely no competition. The quest giver calls it a “tournament” but there seems to be no other people to compete with. Even though Portia has a better fishing tourney, Yonder seems to have an easier fishing mechanic.

    My Time in Portia fishing

    Townsfolk

The most notable difference between the two games for me was the townsfolk. Portia comes to life with the range of people you meet and their personalities. Yonder’s characters seem to be a blank slate filled with opportunity for more story but they just don’t have it. You can also have relationships with the people in Portia and even get married!

    Music / Sounds

Music in both games are another aspect that are quite similar. They are both relaxing and add to the feeling of the game. Nothing stands out too much.

The opening scene from Yonder is breath taking and memorable with perfect music queues.

Sounds in Yonder seemed to win me over rather than Portia. The reason being was just the volume. Sometimes in Portia you run into trees that have birds chirping extremely loud in your ear and the mixing just seems off a lot of the time. Even though I also experienced trees with loud birds in it in Yonder, this issue was not as bad.

    Graphics

The visuals between both Yonder and Portia are quite different. I have seen comments saying people prefer Yonder and other people prefer Portia. To each their own when it comes to the graphics between the two.

The only takeaway that I have here is that Portia has a sort of fog filter which makes distant views look more distant. I feel like this fog takes away from the graphics. (Side Note, there is a mod you can download to get rid of this fog!) I also feel like Yonder has a similar issue where night is too realistic and dark. I wish there was an option/mod to play only in daytime!

My Time in Portia has some stunning distant views.

    Customization

Customizing your character in both Portia and Yonder seem to be a little limited. However, where the customization excels is through the buildings that you’re able to put in your farms. Portia has much more customization than Yonder in this field but Yonder comes in with a close second.

    Final Thoughts

Which game would I recommend to people? Both! My Time in Portia has a lot of depth when it comes to building up your workshop and relationships which makes for a more interactive game play experience. On the other hand, Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is a more laid back game about exploration and taking in the scenery. Depending on what you’re in the mood for, either of these games are fun and worth the time to play.

By clicking the title here, you can purchase your very own copy of My Time at Portia or Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles on the Nintendo Switch.
