The developers of Little Witch in the Woods shared a look at the catalogue in their upcoming magical adventure game.

So little has been revealed about the adorable upcoming Little Witch in the Woods, I am totally ecstatic any time a new treat is shared by Sunny Side Up (the developing team). They have slowly but surely been helping everyone stay up to speed with what is happening behind the scenes while they develop their game.

This time, the new goodie came in the form of a Tweet. It features a little gif showing what the catalogue system in the game will look like. You will have a book that has separate categories for items, animals, and plants that you discover along your journey. Always a handy feature when exploring an unknown world, especially on that is filled with so many wondrous things not found in the real world.

    Little Witch catalogue book

The gif also shows a bit of the environment around Ellie (the little witch), revealing just a bit more of what gameplay will look like in this adorable indie. The developers also revealed a closer look at gameplay when they released a new trailer earlier this year.

Another recent Tweet from the developers showed a large tree that was growing in the middle of a pond. Glowing butterflies lit the area, and made for quite a mysterious scene.

There are so many questions I’d love to ask, but the developers are very selective and secretive about what they reveal, not wanting to share features before they are sure they will make it into the final game.

    More info

For more information on Little Witch in the Woods, you can see my interview with the development team here. Be sure to follow the developers on Twitter to stay up to date on what’s going on with the development of Little Witch in the Woods.

Microids is teaming up with Osome Games and IMPS to give The Smurfs an all new video game!

Big news for all you old school cartoon aficionados out there. The Smurfs are returning to consoles in an all new adventure. Not that this is their first foray into the gaming universe, as the cartoon has spawned many different games on most of the major platforms over the years.

Not much has been released about the new game in the works. The new title will be published by Microids (publishers of Garfield Kart) and developed by Osome Studios, makers of White Night. A statement about the game was made by Elliot Grassiano, Vice President of Microids,

“We are delighted for concluding this new partnership with IMPS!” Microids vice president Elliot Grassiano said in a press release. “Thanks to this trans-generational license and the talent of OSome Studio, a long time Microids partner studio which worked on several family games, we are confident in bringing together all gamers in the wonderful world of the Smurfs. The worldwide success met by The Smurfs will also allow us to increase our brand awareness overseas and position Microids as a major player internationally.”

Given the popularity of the cartoons, and the many games that have spawned in their namesake, this comes as not surprising but still most welcomed news indeed. The Smurfs have been a household name in wholesomeness for quite some time, and appears to desire to remain that way in this new generation.

    More info.

For more information about the upcoming game, you can check out the official Microids website. You can also follow the publishers on Twitter for up to date information.

Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold is an endearing action RPG that releases on Nintendo Switch on Valentine’s Day, 2020. Level-5, who are notorious for the highly regarded Professor Layton games, Yo-Kai Watch franchise, and Nintendo 3DS game Fantasy Life, are both the developers and publishers of this game.

    About The Snack World franchise:

The Snack World is a multimedia franchise created and developed by Level-5. The franchise consists of a ‘rogue-like’ RPG that was initially released under the name ‘The Snack World: Trejarers for the Nintendo 3DS in August 2017 in Japan. An expanded Nintendo Switch port of the game under the same name was released in Japan on April 12th, 2018. Android and iOS versions have been confirmed, but are yet to be released.

Fast forward to November 2019, when Nintendo announces that the game will be released in the west, where it would be re-titled Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold.

Two manga adaptations of the game have been released, and an anime television series which aired on Cartoon Network in Australia from 2017-2018.

The game also has a toy line by Takara Tomy in Japan.

About Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold:

Described as a dungeon-crawling adventure with ‘real bite’, the game offers players the option to play solo, or to join forces with up to three others (either locally or online). The aim is to save the world from being swallowed whole, so no pressure, right?

    Plot:

You are found unconscious at the gates of Tutti-Frutti and have no recollection of who you are. Bummer. Then to make matters worse, it seems that an evil sultan could be resurrecting a mighty deodragon to eat the entire kingdom. Great!

King Papaya and his demanding daughter, Princess Melonia, enlist the help of you and the other heroes of Tutti-Frutti to save the day. With numerous dangerous dungeons (I guess it’s in the game’s title) and plenty of menacing monsters to face, you’re going to have your work cut out.

    Features:

    • Numerous randonly-generated dungeons to explore (and loot), which contain rare treasures and new equipment. Remember: the more you achieve during a quest, the more chests you’ll attain, each packed with loot.
    • The ability to change your hairstyle, facial features and body shape before setting out on your adventure.
    • Find and equip jaras (the most important loot-hunting equipment around) to arm yourself with weapons, shields, healing tonics, and status-enhancing colognes. Each of these have their own unique skills, abilities and passive powers.
    • craft your own gear by merging materials gathered from dungeons into jaras, clothing and armour. Additionally, you can merge any doubles you find or make to improve their stats.
    • Obtain ‘Snacks’ (plastic cards of monsters and characters) by taking their photograph with a device called a Pix-e Pod.
    • Defeating monsters and taking their snack shot and lending characters a helping hand are both ways to obtain snack shots.
    • You can add Snacks to your party before venturing forth, or summon them in battle to give yourself an advantage.
    • Play with up to three other people (either locally or online) and team up to defeat dastardly dungeon-dwellers.
    • All downloadable content released for the original Japanese version are included, free of charge.

All games are already available now on consoles and PC so you can start playing whatever genre suits your fancy such as a classic RPG, a relaxing adventure, or unique puzzle games!

The Heroland theme park offers guests an authentic RPG-style adventure for a price, but when a scruffy young park guide and his guests uncover ulterior motives by the organizers, legends become reality, and guests must take the fate of the park (and the world!) into their own hands. Created by an all-star development team consisting of key people behind MOTHER 3, Legend of Mana, and Fantasy Life, this 2D adventure brings not only a host of quirky heroes and their unique abilities to join your party for a new take on classic RPG-style combat, but also a colorful cast of monsters employed by the theme park, many with their own stories to tell!

Heroland is developed by FuRyu and Netchubiyori Limited, and published by XSEED. It is available now on The Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC. Even with Bug Fables out now, I still have a classic Paper Mario-shaped void in my heart that this game looks like it can help fill!

You know what we hear a lot when talking to fellow fans of games like Story of Seasons, and sometimes even Animal Crossing? That FISHING is their favourite part of the game! After hearing this sentiment so many times, we’ve decided to compile a list of games dedicated entirely to fishing, all coming soon to or already available on Nintendo Switch. Get your fishing games here, ladies and gentlemen!

Reel Fishing: Road Trip Adventure releases on September 17

Natsume’s most recent tweet about this game lauded it as having “Crafting, cooking, a full RPG storyline, and of course – fishing!” The idea of a full RPG storyline is intriguing! Most fishing simulation games have goals and maybe a bare-bones framework of a story, but if Road Trip Adventure really has a full RPG storyline, that’ll be pretty unique. We’re looking forward to learning just what this story entails when the game releases on September 17th.

The game is not yet available to view on the Nintendo Switch e-shop, nor the Playstation Store. But it is available to pre-order at GameStop for both Switch and PS4 for $29.99. It can also be seen on Natsume’s own site. Or you can watch a video right here!

Fishing Star World Tour: Is it new, or isn’t it?

    Fishing Star World Tour Aksys

Aksys Games has a new game coming up, due for release in September (no specific date given) and already available to pre-order a physical copy of at most retail game sites. And it looks great! Colourful, slightly ‘cartoony’ graphics, much cuter than most fishing games have, and over 180 fish to catch across 40 different locations! You even have the option to use motion controls.

    Screenshot from Aksys Games

So what is the confusion? Well…Fishing Star World Tour is ALREADY on the Nintendo Switch e-shop. It has been since January 2019, with the publisher listed as WFS. The screenshots used to promote each version of the game show no noticeable difference in content. Except for a disclaimer screen at the beginning of Aksys’ video, both the trailer on the e-shop page and the trailer Aksys uploaded appear to be the same one. Aksys’ trailer can be watched here:

Colour us confused! Is it that Aksys picked this up so that the game can be offered in physical form, or is Aksys’ version different in some way? And if so, is it a very minor way, such as text changes, or is there some difference in actual gameplay? We have contacted Aksys for some clarification and will update this article if we receive an answer. Until then, we are assuming that the digital version (already available from WFS) and the physical version (available from Aksys in September) are the same game, or with minor localization changes only.

You can get this game on the Switch e-shop ($29.99) or order it on Aksys’ site (regular $29.99 but at the time of writing, on sale for $23.99)

Fishing games already on Nintendo Switch

    Fishing Universe Simulator

We like that in this game, every time you catch a fish, you will have a ‘keep’ and ‘release’ option. So you can catch fish to sell, or release them to swim away after you’ve had the accomplishment of catching them. You can even stuff your fish to turn them into trophies for your wall. It’s all up to you! (Publisher: Forever Entertainment. Added to Switch e-shop Jan 2019. Regular price: $9.99)

    Fishing Universe Simulator

    Dynamite Fishing

This…is NOT your typical fishing game. For one thing, the art style has no semblance of realism…it’s very colourful and entirely cartoony. And very tongue-in-cheek, too! “Fly fishing is boring! Grab your guns and explosives and let’s catch some fish REDNECK STYLE!” And all in a boat made of a repurposed bathtub, it seems. (Publisher: World Games. Added to Switch e-shop Dec 2018. Regular price $9.99)

Just a few of the features Dynamite Fishing has to offer: a multiplayer mode, ten boats with different equipment, 5 player characters to choose from (each with plenty of their own customization options), and competitive matches against virtual opponents. Of all the fishing games we found for Switch, Dynamite fishing sounds the most unique. And the most chaotic!

    Dynamite Fishing

    Rapala Fishing Pro Series

Rapala Fishing Pro Series offers you the opportunity to take part in “world class tournaments and daily challenges”. You can earn money and climb the ranks as an angler until you become a professional You can even become the best in the world! A feature unique to Rapala is that you must gain sponsors in your quest to become the best angler in the world. Weather conditions will also affect your fishing. Catch not only legendary fish, but also monster fishes! (We wonder if this means you can catch Nessie.) (Developer: Concrete Software. Publisher: GameMill Entertainment. Added to Switch e-shop Oct 2018. Regular price $29.99)

    Rapala Fishing Pro Series

    Legendary Fishing

In Legendary Fishing, you spend most of your fishing time viewing the underwater world, witnessing the fish dart this way and that on the line. There are over 20 types of fish to catch, and 80 missions to complete that will see you rise from ‘casual angler’ to ‘legendary fisher’. Four seasons, ten venues, and various weather conditions to fish in. Four people can play together, in classic control style or with motion controls. (Publisher: Ubisoft. Added to Switch e-shop Sep 2018. Regular price $29.99…but 50% off at the time of writing.)

If you love fishing games, then you may also love farming games, because almost all farming simulation games include fishing. Check out our list of farming games on console!

It’s not always easy to find games that adults and children want to play together. But today we have a selection of cute, affordable games coming out on Switch in August. Each one is rated either E or E10+ and look like tons of fun no matter your age.

    The original Ittle Dew

First up is Ittle Dew, due out in a week, on August 15th. The Switch library already boasts Ittle Dew 2+, so bringing the original Ittle Dew to the same console seems like a smart choice. Ittle Dew is a puzzle-solving action adventure game that doesn’t take itself too seriously. There is no grand plot to save the world in this one! Rather, Ittle Dew and her magical fox friend, Tippsie, crash onto a weird island filled with loot, and simply cannot resist the call of adventure. Oh, and loot. Loot’s okay, too. This game is just as silly and fun as it was when first released in July of 2013!

    AER Memories of Old

Second on our list of August Switch releases is AER Memories of Old. AER is a beautiful game about a world in fragments, about to lose itself to the darkness. You are one of the last shapeshifters, and so one of the few who can take to the sky to soar from floating island to floating island in an open world with a vibrant yet simple beauty. Explore the islands and ruins and temples to uncover what you may do to save your dying world. AER will release on August 28th.

    Bubsy: Paws on Fire!

The final contestant on our list of August Nintendo Switch releases is Bubsy: Paws on Fire! Releasing just a day after AER, on August 29th, it, too, is a visually striking game. Just as cute as Ittle Dew, but with the smooth graphics of an animated cartoon; it reminded us a little of Bonkers. (“Totally nuts!” Anyone else remember that blast from the past?)

This action-adventure platformer game will let you choose from four different characters, each with different skill sets. You can even customize them! Different costumes are available for each character. Can you get through all 100 levels?

If these family-friendly games appealed to you, especially AER, check out Kumo: A Boy in the Clouds.
