Those who are already addicted to mobile gaming need no urging to try all the great games available on their smartphone or tablet. Those of us who find it physically awkward, or who don’t like the format, might need a little encouragement. But games of every type, from casual card or arcade games to story-rich adventures and RPGs, are all available on mobile. And mobile gaming can be adjusted to your comfort, too. Did you know that mobile controllers exist?

    Mobile gaming, YOUR way

You can make any mobile device feel like a dedicated gaming device. There are many different controllers designed to fit to your mobile device (phone or tablet), giving it a comfortable grip and buttons and control sticks to take charge of the action. Have you tried a mobile controller like this?

    Most Popular Mobile Games

As for games, the selection is nearly endless. There are so many farming games available on mobile that it’s hard to sort through them all. FarmVille, Family Farm, Hay Day, oh my. But to start you off with a familiar face, don’t forget that Stardew Valley is available on mobile!

    Stardew Valley – iOS, Android

You can even get a farming or gardening theme in game genres you might not expect. Gardenscapes is a surprisingly tricky and addictive match-3 game. It allows you to repair and rebuild a mansion’s beautiful garden in whichever style you choose. You can even go back later and change the fountains, paving, shrubs, flowerbeds…anything in any area you have unlocked.

If you like to build and have even more control over design, Minecraft is also very popular on mobile! You can get the Pocket Edition on both iOS and Android.

More interested in games that feel a little more social? Why not try the mobile game that took the world by storm in 2016? Pokemon Go is still popular and still alive with players and content.

If Pokemon is not your thing, then how about Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp? New features are always being added to the mobile extension of our beloved Animal Crossing. The animals are still all their lovable (or annoying!) selves, whether you meet them on your 3DS, your Switch, or your smartphone.

    RPGs and Adventure

If there’s anyone left still sitting there, looking bored…how about some RPGs? Mobile gaming has those, too! There’s Nintendo’s own Dragalia Lost. It’s set in a world where the royal family has the ability to transform into dragons, if they have a pact with them. You begin the story as the seventh prince, who has yet to make a pact with any dragon, but must set out to do so immediately when the protection around his city begins to fail.

    Dragalia Lost – iOS, Android

Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space is also a popular, large-scale RPG available on mobile. The story was written by Masato Kato (who also wrote Xenogears and Chrono Trigger). If that’s not enough, the game’s beautiful soundtrack is by Yasunori Mitsuda, who also worked on Xenogears and Chrono Trigger. That’s some good stuff! Another Eden has 26 main story chapters focusing on the protagonist, Aldo, and his sister, Fienne, and involves time-travelling through both the past and the future, as well as dealing with the present.

If you want something cute, colourful, and inspired by a classic, how about Egglia: Legend of the Redcap? Strongly influenced by Legend of Mana, you must revive your world by finding precious eggs. Each has had a part of the world sealed into it, and can be restored by hatching it on the map. Explore and gather resources with movement based on a roll of the dice, like a cross between a board game and a strategy RPG.

    Story-driven games

But maybe what you like are story-driven games, which the mobile platform is often criticized for not having. But the market is growing all the time, and if you have a look, you’ll find some very special story-driven games waiting for you on your phone and tablet. Like the beautiful GRIS, which will be coming to iOS this month! A game about dealing with grief using light platforming and puzzles, it’s hard to know if this is a game, a storybook or a piece of art.

GRIS – iOS coming August 22!

Forgotton Anne is also an iOS exclusive, and takes place in a world of “Forgotlings”. Personified socks and toys and scraps of paper…items that have been lost or forgotten in our own world. With hand-painted backgrounds, Forgotton Anne has a charm reminiscent of a Ghibli movie. It’s a game by Square Enix. We had to look it up to make sure Miyazaki really had nothing to do with it!

    Forgotton Anne
    Forgotton Anne – iOS

And lastly…only because soon this list will be too long…is To the Moon. An emotional tale of an old man’s dying wish to go to the moon. This is another game that, like Gris, feels like it may be as much ‘artistic expression’ as ‘game’. It was born of Canadian game-designer Kan Gao’s response to his grandfather’s struggle with his failing health. You must explore old Johnny’s memories to understand his life’s dream, and help him see it come true.

Still not convinced to make mobile gaming your own? As always, we want you to enjoy games in your own way. Especially if you are here for farming games in particular, please check out our list of farming games on console.

Journey was an award winning multiplayer adventure game for PlayStation 3. First released in 2012 it quickly became one of the most fascinating and beautiful games on the PS3. Now the game makes a surprise appearance on iOS for iPhone and iPad users.

The award winning game takes the player on an engaging journey through a beautifully crafted 3D world. The game is a mix between traditional platformers as well as intriguing puzzle games. This unique mix of features and game genres made Journey so very popular in the PlayStation 3 era.

Journey also features a native online multiplayer experience where you will randomly meet other players from all over the world. There is no communication other than simple emotes which makes helping or receiving help from other players even more interesting.

Now with the release on mobile, players will be able to revisit or even enjoy this gem of a game in the palm of our hands.

Journey is now available on iOS, you can grab it on the Apple App Store for $4.99. Android users may have to wait a little longer, we have reached out to the developers for more clarification when the game might come to other mobile platforms.

Check out the wonderful Journey trailer below! ( PS3 version)

    Journey iOS announcment

Sky looks and feels quite a bit like Journey, but with more people. Up to 8 players can join a session through their smartphone or tablet. These groups feel big, but not massive; busy but not totally unwieldy. There’s a logic to their size: Chen hopes Sky will be a game entire families play together.

Of course, he clarifies, people can also play alone. Some puzzles require 8 players to cooperate, but Chen recognizes that sometimes collaborating with seven friends can be a bit like “wrangling cats.”

I doubt anybody will want to play alone though. Sky recaptures that beautiful mix of playfulness and performance of its predecessor. I can’t yell over voice chat; instead I must communicate with audible pings and gestures.

Dr. Mario has been out on iOS and Android for a couple weeks now and fans of the game have been eagerly fighting those nifty little viruses! Today Nintendo announced that Dr. Mario World will receive a huge new update including new characters and brand new stages to explore.

In Dr. Mario World the player will need to fight those tiny little gems by matching capsules with the viruses in order to make them disappear. Once you match three capsules of the same color vertically or horizontally they will be cleared. Sounds easy, but quickly becomes a challenging brain twister!

The new update will add a whooping 20 new stages to the game. By the first look that Nintendo revealed today, we see that Dr. Mario World is slowly gearing up for this years Halloween season most likely in anticipation of a Luigis Mansion 3 cross over event, with purple slime and an overall darker look.

Next to the new stages, the mobile game will also receive a total of three new doctors, including the much beloved Daisy in a yellow lab coat, how cute!

    Dr. Mario World Daisy

A new update for Dr. Mario World is out now, you can download version 1.0.4 from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store now. While the patch notes only mention bug fixes and other improvements, it sure is laying the groundwork for the new additions to be available sometime this week!

Pokemon Rumble Rush has officially been released to the Apple Store!

    Pokemon Rumble Rush

The Pokemon Company just can’t seem to get enough of the mobile gaming franchise of late. Their latest iteration, Pokemon Rumble Rush, is out now for all iOS devices. In a nutshell, it is essentially a mobilized version of the classic Pokemon Rumble games. Now with the ability to battle other players from around the globe, the mobile version of this series seems to be taking right off.

Until yesterday, Pokemon Rumble Rush was only available on phones. Now that it has been released to the Apple Store, you can play Rumble Rush on any iOS device that you choose. In case you missed it, the game follows pretty much the same path as the games from which it takes its namesake. The primary difference being, as usual, that it has been altered to make it a little more mobile friendly. The controls have been dumbed down, as well as the depth of gameplay.

You can collect musical instruments and find special music sheets. You can also collect items to customize your character. There will be seasonal events and items. There are also plans to make more chapters (games) for the world of Sky.

    Game Features:

    • Enjoy 7 realms to explore and journey through
    • Team up & socialize with other players
    • Customize your character with an array of items
    • Find & gift candles to show appreciation and build friendships
    • Enjoy changing seasons with new events & items

There is yet another cool crossover going down in Pocket Camp, and this time it’s Dr. Mario.

    Dr. Mario pocket camp

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has had plenty of kooky and classy crossovers to add some really special content to our camps. Crossover content has actually been quite a large part of what makes Pocket Camp such a special mobile game. Not only have we gotten items and clothing from these crossovers, but even game functionality with the Happy Homemaker crossover.

We’ve seen a lot spectacular crossovers with titles like Splatoon, Mario, Pokemon and even Hello Kitty. Whether you’re finding the perfect place to set your giant plush Eevee, or deciding to look like Mario with or without the mustache, Animal Crossing Pocket camp crossovers have always added just that little extra to keep Pocket Camp on our playlist.

The latest crossover to join the Pocket Camp updates is with the recently released for mobile title, Dr. Mario World. This update comes in the form of a few themed gifts from the new title. Players who log in between the dates of 7/18/19 and 8/18/19 will receive three awesome virus tees and a Mario mustache that looks oddly familiar. They also recommend getting the doctors coat by raising your friendship with Raddle to level 7, if you haven’t already done so. Now you can look exactly like Dr. Mario himself!

For more information about this crossover event, be sure to check out Nintendos official Animal Crossing Pocket Camp website.
