The crossover game Doraemon Story of Seasons takes the best out of two franchises with a heavy focus on farming and relationships with the town folks. As we reported a few weeks ago, a demo for the game has finally been released, it is now available in the Japanese eShop and accessible from any Nintendo Switch. Along with the demo we also received a new and most adorable trailer. Check it out!

In Doraemon Story of Seasons players will be playing as a young boy named Nobita (who also features in Doraemon’s original manga and anime), the Story of Seasons aspect of the game sees players growing crops, raising animals, and improving their farm, which is located in a town called Shizen Town. The game also features the Harvest Goddess and other regular characters from the Story of Seasons Franchise, as well as Doraemon and his friends.

Nintendos latest hybrid console does not have region lock, which means you can create a Japanese Nintendo Online account and then download the game to your system. Many of the games on the Japanese eShop also have the option to be played in English, howevr Doraemon Story of Seasons is not one of them.

The game is set to release in west later this year in fall 2019. If you can’t wait that long you can grab the demo from the Japanese eShop in the meantime.

For more farming game news, Natsume announced that Harvest Moon Dash will be revealed at this years E3. If you want to learn more about what happened to the Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons franchise, make sure you check out our look back at both games.

With new titles such as Doraemon: Story of Seasons and Harvest Moon: Mad Dash releasing soon, we here at myPotatoGames thought it was a perfect opportunity to look back at the Bokujō Monogatari series. Below you’ll find a list of a few defining games of Harvest Moon, developed by Marvelous. Moreover, the reason for why we now technically have two separate Harvest Moon franchises.

To summarize, the North American publishers responsible for the localization of the Bokujō Monogatari series change from Natsume to Marvelous’ own sister company Xseed Games in 2012. Therefore, we have Natsume continuing to create Harvest Moon branded games and Marvelous re-branding to Story of Seasons for their new line of farming simulation games. The PAL (European) distribution was handled by Rising Star Games and now Nintendo. Let us take a closer look at when this all began with the Westernization of this series.

Japan: Marvelous – Creators of Bokujō Monogatari

Harvest Moon was created in 1996 by Yasuhiro Wada and produced by Victor Interactive Software (acquired by Marvelous in 2003) and was known as Bokujō Monogatari in Japan. During this time, and until 2013, Natsume oversaw the English translation and publishing of the series, thus Harvest Moon.

The Last Harvest Moon Game -Before the Split

Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning was the last title in the Bokujō Monogatari series to be released under the “Harvest Moon” name with the developers involvement (Marvelous). The game was released on the 3DS in North America in 2012.

North America: Natsume – Publishers (2013-present)

In 2012, Marvelous discontinued licensing the series to Natsume. Natsume then began their own series of Harvest Moon games in North America and Europe beginning with the release of Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley in 2014. This is due to Natsume owning the rights to the brand and title of Harvest Moon. Therefore, the games below were not created by Marvelous but rather Tabot Inc. Light of Hope is their latest installment of their main series, released worldwide in 2017.

North America: Xseed Games (Marvelous subsidiary) – Publishers

In 2014, Marvelous Inc. announced that the latest installment in the series would be localized by their American publishing brand Xseed Games under the new series title Story of Seasons. The game Story of Seasons was subsequently released in North America in 2015 and the second game of that series, Trio of Towns, released in 2017.

We’re very excited to play as many farming games as possible and glad that this genre is on the rise. If you’re interested in Yasuhiro Wada’s work (the original creator of Harvest Moon) then you should check out his most recent game, created by his own company Toybox, Little Dragons Café. You can also check out our latest news on Rune Factory; a spin-off series developed by Neverland Co. and published by Marvelous.

Snacko is a farming simulation game developed by an indie studio called bluecurse where you play as a cat! If you haven’t heard of this amazing game yet you can get caught up with us here. You’ll be able to farm, fish, cook, decorate, and recruit different animals to your island sometime in 2021 on PC and the Nintendo Switch. See below for bluecurse’s latest devblog for the newest developments in Snacko.

    Crafting

Crafting can be a lot of fun as you have to find recipes by talking to new characters and discovering new locations. That means there’s a lot of exploring to do! You can also find the required materials you need to build things around your farm and other areas outside. You can see in the image below that some items you can craft will be for cosmetic purposes so you can have fun decorating.

Other items will be very useful in helping you with your farming such as sprinklers for your crops, and a lamp to help you see at nighttime. Moreover, there seems to be tools that you need to craft to perform certain activities (i.e. fishing rod for fishing).

    Cooking

Cooking just became a lot more pleasant as not only do you follow recipes from a book but you can also experiment and your recipe book will record what you’ve learned! Furthermore, there are recipes that will require very specific food items to complete, such as tomatoes for tomato soup, and there will be recipes that are a little more general.

For example, to make a fruit tart you can choose any kind of fruit you want and any attribute that adds a “sweet” flavor. All consumables will have categories like vegetables or meats, as well as whether it tastes sweet, sour, etc. This way you can get a little more creative with your dishes as long as they meet the conditions listed.

    Camping Out

There will be four distinct islands asides from the main island which houses your farm and the town. Each new island you discover has its own puzzles, resources, monsters, and creatures. Since there is so much exploring to do, the developers have thought of a unique way that you can stay out for several days. Instead of having to return all the way back home, you only need to bring a few of this key item: cardboard boxes!

Cardboard boxes are the most comfortable beds to a cat as long as they stay dry. This means you will have to make sure you find an area that is covered or go inside caves. It’s easy to obtain them; get them for free from shops from time to time or check out the junkyard. Each box can be used for up to three times so it is important to stock up if you want to be out for a while.

    Seasons

There will be different weather or environmental effects on the other islands. Therefore, the developers are working on adding summer, fall, and winter to the game, which already included spring. As time passes you will get to see the environment change and have many lovely things to look at; spring has cherry blossoms and now fall will have colored leaves. In addition, notice in the image below how your character Momo has left behind some adorable little kitty footprints in the snow!

    Merchandise

The creators have started selling more merchandise from their online store here, and are providing their supporters with discount codes. New this month is the adorable keychains you can see below. You can also continue to support this game on Patreon and receive some interesting perks!

Want to know what else is new for the month of April on other games we’ve covered? Check out Calico (another game with cats), Alchemy Story (an adorable farming simulation game), and Ooblets (grow your own companions and “battle” by dancing).

    Post Image

With a new month comes a new devlog update from Éloïse Laroche, the sole developer behind Alchemy Story, an adorable farming simulation game. If you missed our demo summary and gameplay footage of Alchemy Story last time, you can catch up with us right here. Now, let’s dive in to the new features added or changed as the developer continues to progress with the development of the game.

    William Sharpleaf

A new character has been added to the game that will also need saving and help transforming back into a human. William is the town’s lumberjack. He will sell lumber, mushrooms, and better axes. The axes will help you to explore further into the forest as you need to cut down trees to find keys.

    New character: William Sharpleaf

    Gnome Builders

Three adorable gnomes have been added as a reward for transmuting William. With their help, you’ll be able to build and upgrade different buildings around town. As of now, you’ll be able to build a hot air balloon and upgrade your barn and coop. The developer intends to later add more buildings that will be available for construction such as a market, fishing nets, and a house expansion.

    Helpful, happy gnome builders

    Hot Air Balloon

The hot air balloon in our opinion will be a most valuable item to build as it will allow you to fast travel into the forest to previous levels you’ve already unlocked. No more having to restart at the beginning of the forest every time you enter.

    Handy hot air balloon

    Coop & Barn Expansions

The barn and the coop both have three different sizes now. Both buildings start as small with about 3-4 spaces each and you’ll be able to upgrade them two more times. The expansions allow you to keep new types of animals or more of the same ones. It’s always great to have more animals.

    More space, more animals!

    Feedback & Development

The creator has heard everyone’s comments and has made improvements based on the feedback she has received this past month. See below for all of the new changes!

    • The groundhog is easier to find as she stays out of the ground until you talk to her and start managing your garden.
    • Charlotte sends a letter to better explain how the garden works.
    • After adopting your first animal, Noah will send you a letter to explain how to feed and take care of them.
    • The main interface will notify you of which area you are in. I’m still working on a map, but this information will let you know quickly where you are.
    • I’ve fixed collisions so it’s easier to interact with certain objects.

The April dev. log for Ooblets reveals new features and improvements!

The recently updated dev log for Ooblets let us in on some in-depth details in regards to the progress of this eagerly awaited title! The dynamic duo of a dev team has been hard at work to make sure the game is as streamlined as possible before the still unknown release date. This adorable title has already gained quite the following, mostly for it’s uber-cute art style and ingenious minion system (the Ooblets).

In case you haven’t heard, Ooblets is an extremely adorable farming SIM/creature collection game in the style of such classics as Animal Crossing and Pokemon. Only in this game, you don’t need to necessarily catch your creatures, instead, you grow them in your awesome garden! Your little friends will help you do many things as you explore the expansive lands before you.

    The juicy deets….

The updated dev log for last month mentions a few choice improvements! First and foremost, as usual, bug fixes! All those nasty little critters are being sought out and corrected as we speak! There has also been the addition of a heads-up display (HUD) to make for easier access to your quests and tasks.

Also, a new special homebaby grow system makes it so that the Ooblets you leave on your farm will help them grow faster, depending on the attributes of the individual Oobs. This adorable feature is implemented through dance. Watch your Ooblets groove for the betterment of your ecosystem!

In this update, you can now keep much better track of your cutesy creatures with the addition of an almanac. This will simplify the process of knowing which ones you have, and which ones you still need to grow! These are just the key features of the update (from our perspective), for the full details on what’s new and what’s to come, hop on over to the dev log! For more information about this charming title, check out everything myPotatoGames has to say about Ooblets.

Stardew Valley has been out for many years and like other games in the genre it can be enjoyed for many more years to come. But the feeling when you first started the game with the soothing music, planting your first crops and meeting the first few villagers is unbeatable. Stardew Valley Expanded a mod created by Flash Shifter, is designed to once again capture the feeling of playing Stardew Valley for the first time.

Stardew Valley Expanded contains tons of new and free content. The developer states that this mod “give(s) the player the magical feeling they had when they first played Stardew Valley.” The statement is supported by the mods incredible feature list. Besides tons of other smaller changes, it includes ten new map locations, over 400 new location messages as well as 38 new character events. As if this wasn’t enough already Stardew Valley Expanded also features a totally overhauled map, festivals and a brand new town map that shows all the new additions to the game.

    Stardew Valley Expanded

We are beyond excited to give this new mod a try. Stardew Valley Expanded came out at the best time, as ConcernedApe – developer behind Stardew Valley recently announced that more Stardew content is on the way. If you feel like starting a new game and get that first time Stardew tingle once more, you might want to give Stardew Valley Expanded a closer look. Keep in mind that even though Stardew Valley is available on most major consoles such as Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS Vita and Xbox One, mods are only supported on the PC version of Stardew at this time.
