[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t has previously been announced that the highly anticipated game, Little Dragons Cafe, will be released for Switch in North America on 24th August. European gamers will be pleased to know that Rising Star Games have recently announced a release date for the game in Europe. The game will be released in Europe on 21st September.

It has not been announced whether European gamers will be able to buy limited edition copies of the game or not. However, physical copies of the game will definitely be available to purchase. With a cute box design, this is welcome news to those who collect physical copies of Switch games.

    About:

Little Dragons Cafe is an upcoming game from Rising Star Games, who are infamous for their Harvest Moon series.

The story begins with a twin brother and sister running a small café with their mother. All was peaceful and routine until one morning the twins discovered that their mother fell into a deep sleep and wouldn’t wake up. Suddenly, an old wizard appears and tells the twins that their mother is gravely ill and that they must raise a dragon in order to save her.

Working together with their three quirky staff members (waiter, waitress, and chef), the two siblings must raise a dragon and manage the family business while at the same time discover what is causing their mother’s illness and find a cure.

Little Dragons Café is the latest tour de’ force from Yasuhiro Wada, founder of the Harvest Moon series.

    Features:

Raise your very own dragon! Embrace your nurturing instincts and raise your own dragon! Through wise decisions, proper nutrition, and empathetic nurturing show the world the true potential of your dragon companion!

Create culinary masterpieces and run a successful café – Learn new recipes and master the art of cooking while running your café. Explore the world, discover new ingredients, and expand your menu (and your restaurant!) while catering to the whims of your customers.

Farm the land and harvest nature’s bounty – The best dishes use the freshest ingredients, and the best way to ensure that is to grow your own produce. Till the land and fish the rivers, and gather the most flavourful fixings for your signature dishes.

Serve the townsfolk, make them happy! Not only cook for the people in your town, but also help them with their problems to increase your popularity and the general happiness of everyone around you.

For those with their head in the ‘clouds’, who have not yet played or heard of Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles, it is an aesthetic open-world adventure game. It was initially released for PC and PS4 on July 18th 2017. It will be released for Switch on 17th May 2018. The game can be purchased as a physical copy, or alternatively can be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop for a reasonable $26.99.

To any UK gamers, the game currently has a 10% discount and can be obtained for a reasonable £20.69 if pre-ordered today. You can pre-order it here. For players outside the UK, you can get the game on Amazon here.

Upon its release for PC last year, Yonder was praised for its beautiful graphics and amalgamation of different elements from popular game series’.  It has been compared to Zelda, Harvest Moon, and Animal Crossing, as well as many other games.

Straight away I was able to see Zelda’s influence upon the game, with the beginning being suspiciously reminiscent of both Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild. (My boyfriend’s exact words upon watching my gameplay were “Oh look it’s Breath of The Wild!”). ????

A̶f̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶s̶p̶e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶h̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶r̶a̶c̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶c̶u̶s̶t̶o̶m̶i̶s̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶  you begin the game on a ship set sail for Gemea, a mysterious island full of Sprites, animals and Murk (that darn Murk!). Unfortunately, due to a disastrous combination of stormy weather and incompetent crew members, you arrive at Gemea via shipwreck (you had one job guys!????). Armed with a handy compass to (literally) light the way, you set off to explore the first part of Gemea. The Grasslands.

Similar to the game RiME, death in Yonder is apparently impossible. Jumping into deep water or off of cliff edges results in your character either re-spawning or whipping out an umbrella to float to safety?! So in this sense, in combination with no time constraints, no combat, and free reign to explore Gemea (aside from a few essential quests for story progression), the game is very relaxing and family-friendly.

    Likes and Dislikes

Things I liked about the game ????

    • The satisfaction one gets when mining rocks and chopping down trees (Side note: I enjoy spending days aggressively smashing rocks and branches on my farm on Stardew Valley). The slight vibration of the joy-cons when doing manual labour in Yonder enhances this satisfaction (yes, I’m a weirdo).
    • The cute creatures, luscious landscapes, captivating compositions, and quirky quests were four of the most appealing aspects of the game for me.

    • Additionally, I liked that there wasn’t any time constraints and that the game-play was very self-directed. This means that players can forge their own path through the game, at their own pace.
    • As a cat-lover ????, I was very happy to discover that the game had a cat quest! Whilst finding all of the (55) cats in the game requires dedication, the side quest is definitely a cute addition.

Things I disliked about the game ????

    • Maybe I’m just incompetent, but I spent about an hour looking for my missing crew members. After giving up the search ????????‍♀️, I decided to instead clear up my farm and return to the village. It was only then that I realised that this mission could not be completed until later on. Therefore an uncertainty/ambiguity of how and when to complete some missions was an aspect I wasn’t keen on.
    • Additionally, each area of the game is very vast. Whilst this does offer players more adventure and opportunity to explore, it is easy to become overwhelmed and lost at first.

(Side note: Is it just me who thinks the cats look kinda creepy? With their vacant eyes and ability to stand like a human..)

    • The faintness of the collectable cats meows, as well as them being small in size, makes them difficult to find in my opinion. It took me a whole (in-game) day to locate and rescue one from some rocks in Radiant Sands. I was tempted to leave it there, but the cat’s meows sounded so sad and pitiful. Anyone would think you’d committed the heinous crime of feeding it 5 mins late!

Additionally, some cats can only be discovered during certain seasons. Therefore after collecting all 55, I reckon players should be rewarded with more than just a stinkin’ trophy. Maybe a cat (or six) of our own, because who needs 55 cats anyway..?! ????

Image result for yonder yarn ball cats

    • To be fair, it is pretty cute to be able to see 55 kitties playing in a giant ball of yarn after completing the quest. 100000% worth it. Maybe.
    • A final dislike was having to clean up creature poop. Definitely one of the less enchanting elements in the game.. ????
    Main Features

    Music and Cinematics ????

The game’s music and cinematics play a big part in making the game appealing. Beautiful mini cut scenes (such as when a player discovers a new area) as well as enchanting music, creates a soothing gaming experience and contributes to the game’s ‘Breath of The Wild’ feel. Even the little things have been thought of by developers. For example, the presence of pauses between music in order to lessen the likelihood of the player getting bored of the Soundtrack.

    Relaxing, not taxing ????

Despite the murk casting a shadow over their homeland, the people of Gemea (mostly) remain welcoming, humble and charismatic.

This guy being an exception… With combat absent, the gameplay is calm, relaxing, and gentle, and focuses more on the player’s journey, as opposed to fixating on the destination.

    Snow White’s 26 Sprites? ????

Finding Sprites is essential in Yonder in order to clear areas of Murk. Sprites can be found in many different locations, and each have their own unique personalities. They can range from forgetful, to grumpy, which kind of reminded me of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Although it can definitely be said that Gemea’s flittering inhabitants are a little more sprite-ly (heh) and helpful than their Disney counterparts.

    Controls ????

The controls in the game are pretty straightforward, although players are given tutorials nonetheless.

Having Joy-Cons with joysticks makes the game more enjoyable and accessible for me personally. (Confession: I’m terrible at using WASD in PC games and will set the arrow keys as direction controls wherever possible). It is easy to use the compass (a useful tool) in the game by simply pressing the up arrow button (△) on the blue (left) Joy-Con.

I played the majority of the game in handheld mode, although graphics can definitely be appreciated more when the game is played on a larger screen.

    Graphics ????

The graphics are hands-down the best aspect of the game for me. From twinkling sunsets over water, to luscious green breezy meadows, the varying utopia-esque landscapes are best described as eye-candy.

The attractive art-style is not dissimilar to My Time At Portia (MTAP). Both Yonder and MTAP are beautiful open-world RPG simulation games. They both allow players to craft items, manage a farm, and engage with a plethora of charismatic characters. They have also both earned a respectable 9/10 rating on Steam.

    Bartering ????

Unlike many other games, Yonder utilises a bartering system. As opposed to just obtaining some of a currency and buying things, you barter with tradespeople instead. This is actually pretty useful as currency in games can sometimes be hard to accumulate.

    Crafting ????

Some things can’t be purchased through bartering and will have to be crafted instead. An example being the Toy Cat (*whistles nonchalantly*). There are 8 different crafting classes (Guilds) in the game. Your character starts out as a Wayfarer, but can join different Guilds and become a:

    • – Chef
    • – Carpenter
    • – Constructor
    • – Tinker
    • – Brewer
    • – Tailor
    • – Master Craftsman

Each class offers their own unique crafting recipes (not dissimilar to Level 5’s game Fantasy Life).

    Farming ????

The game offers both crop and animal farming. Players can befriend exotic creatures such as the Groffle (by bribing them with their favourite foods). The creature will then follow the player. If lead to a farm with an animal pen, it can then be adopted.

You can also hire many characters in the game as farmhands (again, by bribing them with food). Farmhands will undertake a variety of tasks, and essentially help to keep your farm clean, tidy and running smoothly. Thus, maintaining its rating whilst you are away.

    Exploration ????

There are eight different regions to explore in Yonder.

The Grasslands ???? – Grassy plains located in the center of Gemea

Crestfall Coast ???? – A coastal, temperate, tropical region

Dapplewood Forest ???? – A forest region crossed with creeks

Hearthwind Vale ???? – A region full of plateaus, valleys and swamps

    Numino Peak ???? – A snow-covered mountain region

    Radiant Sands ???? – A desert region

    Sunderwind Wilds ???? – A prairie region

    The Shivering Plains ❄ – A cold, snow-covered region

The different regions have their own unique climates, landscapes, characters, quests, guilds, wildlife and more.

    Conclusion

Overall, I found Yonder to be an enigmatic game with lots of different features to keep players entertained. The variety of (sometimes kooky) quests, plethora of beautiful landscapes to explore, and the ability to farm, craft, mine etc, makes boredom unlikely, even for those with the shortest of attention spans.????

Whilst the vast landscapes may be overwhelming at first, you will become well acquainted with them over time. Having a large open-world isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it helps to make the game a little more challenging, as your compass doesn’t guide your character everywhere.

Put simply, if you are a fan of My Time At Portia, Stardew Valley or Fantasy Life, I would definitely recommend purchasing this game for Switch.

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles will release on Nintendo Switch eShop May 17th, a physical version is set to release on June 12th, you can-pre-order it here.

Big thanks to Prideful Sloth for providing the review copy of Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles on Nintendo Switch.

[dropcap]L[/dropcap]abo was successfully released in the US and Japan last week. Nintendo Labo has been praised for it’s back-to-basics concept that encourages children to use their imagination. Many schools have said that they would like to use Labo in the classroom. Even adults have commented on how fun assembling Labo is.

But Labo has also received approval from a rather more unintended audience. Cats.

It’s no secret that cats adore cardboard. Popular internet cat Maru has loads of videos of him playing in boxes. If your cats are anything like my grandmother’s 7 felines (yes, 7) you’ll probably relate to buying them a comfy new cat bed (which comes in a box), only for them to turn their noses up at the expensive bed and sleep inside the cardboard box instead. How rude right?

Given Labo’s popularity, it’s safe to assume many cardboard fishing rods, pianos, and robots now reside in homes across the globe. Cats worldwide must be rubbing their paws together in glee, thinking that Christmas has come early!

The internet loves cats. It’s therefore no surprise that numerous videos and photos are emerging of cats with Labo.

An example being Nintendo Labo V Cat

It’s kind of cute to see curious cats taking an interest in/being intrigued by Labo. ????

It’s admittedly a little anxiety-provoking to see cats sleeping on top of Labo and batting it playfully. ????

It is horrifying however, to watch videos that show the most fiendish of felines destroying Labo! Somebody save it! ????

Considering how unhelpful cats tend to be, it’s a safe bet your cats aren’t going to be helping assemble your Labo anytime soon.

Therefore, unless you like your Labo:

    • Cat breath scented
    • Soggy
    • Punctured with teeth marks

It’s probably best to keep your kitty well away.

After all, Labo is most likely some of the priciest cardboard you’ll ever buy! If you want to learn more about Nintendo Labo, head over here.

In January 2018, Nintendo revealed Nintendo Labo, a unique product for Nintendo Switch. Labo involves making creations out of cardboard, and utilizing them alongside the Switch and its peripherals, to create a unique gameplay experience. Whether you know plenty about Nintendo Labo, or nothing at all, here is a list of things that everyone should know about the new Nintendo product.

    What is Nintendo Labo?

Nintendo Labo is a rather hard thing to explain, but I’ll try my best here. Nintendo Labo is a set of buildable cardboard accessories that allow for unique gameplay experiences on the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Labo allows for the design of numerous types of cardboard creations, such as a Fishing Rod, an RC car and a Piano. The cardboard designs serve as a way to play a variety of different games on the Nintendo Switch hardware, even going as far as to hold the console itself, something that can be easily seen in numerous Toy-Con designs.

Yes, I did say Toy-Con, which is what each Labo design is creatively called, considering they all utilise the Joy-Con and their features. The RC car for example, makes use of HD rumble of the Joy-Con, allowing for a design that doesn’t have wheels to somehow drive.

The Labo is an extremely unique and interesting idea, that despite being intended mainly for children, will surely garner a following with people of all ages.

What is in each Nintendo Labo Kit?

The Nintendo Labo released with two Toy-Con kits, a Variety Kit and a Robot Kit. The Variety Kit lives up to its name, offering a variety of different projects to build.

The Variety Kit contains the cardboard to make the following:

    Two Toy-Con RC Cars
    Toy-Con Fishing Rod
    Toy-Con House
    Toy-Con Motorbike
    Toy-Con Piano

The Variety Kit provides plenty of Toy-Con to play with, but the Nintendo Switch Labo software is where these designs will truly shine. The Robot Kit may only provide the Robot Toy-Con, but it provides the most advanced Labo experience, being a wearable Toy-Con that has physical involvement from head to toe.

The Robot Kit contains the cardboard to make the following:

    Toy-Con Robot
    Visor
    Main Body
    Robot Shoes
    Robot Arms

The Robot Kit seems to be the most fleshed out Toy-Con, and hopefully the Nintendo Switch Labo Software manages to show off the true extent of its capabilities. There is also a Nintendo Labo Customization set releasing alongside the Toy-Con Kits. The Customization Kit allows Labo players to further customize their Toy-Con creations, allowing for more personality in Toy-Con designs.

The Customization Set contains the following:

    Two Stencils
    Two Sticker Sheets
    Two Tape Rolls

What do the Toy-Con provide Gameplay-wise?

The variety kit, consisting of five different Toy-Con creations, provides numerous gameplay experiences.

The RC Cars can be used to simply drive around, but if you’re feeling daring, can easily be used to race and battle against each other.

The Fishing Rod offers a fishing game that sees you going from catching only small fish, to scouring the depths of the seas to find larger marine life, such as sharks. You can even visit your caught fish in the aquarium, and design fish of your own!

The Toy-Con House sees you befriending a cute, imp-like creature, using several different things to interact with it, and its home. The cardboard blocks provided with the House can be plugged in to provide various minigames and other interesting ways to interact with your new fluffy friend.

The Motorbike allows for a racing game that looks to heavily resemble Mario Kart. Players can race in Grand Prix mode, as well as create their own unique racing tracks.

The last Toy-Con in the Variety Kit is the Piano, which seems to have a decent amount of depth to it. You can plug in different pieces to change the piano tones to cat noises or other silly sounds, while another mode allows the piano keys to use the vibration of the Joy-Con, offering different ways to make music.

    Nintendo Labo piano

The Variety Kit offers plenty to do, and is sure to keep you entertained for a decent while.

The Robot Kit despite coming with only the Robot Toy-Con, seemingly still has plenty to offer. As an enormous Robot, you can walk around and punch and kick within the environment, destroying all in your path to get as high a score as possible. Holding your arms at your side allows for your Robot to fly, crouching will turn you into a tank, and putting on your trusty visor will allow you to experience a first-person mode.

Nintendo Labo RobotThere’s plenty more to be experienced with the Toy-Con Robot, but I won’t spoil it here.

How much does each Nintendo Labo Kit cost?

The Nintendo Labo Variety Kit launched with a recommended retail price of $69.99 in North America, £59.99 in the UK, and $99.95 in Australia. The Nintendo Labo Robot Kit is somewhat more expensive, retailing at $79.99 in North America, £69.99 in the UK, and $119.95 in Australia. Now, this may seem far too overpriced for pieces of cardboard, but it’s important to remember that each Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Kit comes with a game.

The Nintendo Labo Customization Set, which comes with stickers and other craft materials to spruce up you Toy-Con designs, retails at $9.99 in North America, £8.99 in the UK, and $14.95 in Australia.

Where can I get Nintendo Labo ?

You can now but the Nintendo Labo Variety Kit here, the Robot Kit here, and the customization pack here.

What are your thoughts on Nintendo Labo?

I know that I’ll be getting Nintendo Labo the moment it releases, but what about you guys and gals? Are you looking forward to Labo? Make sure to let us know!

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]intendo have recently announced that the next Pocket Camp update is going to be a big one. With the ability to obtain much-needed new furniture and clothing from fortune cookies, we here at MyPotatoGames can’t wait for the next big update!

    Fortune cookies:

A fortune cookie shop will open in the Marketplace. When players eat the mysterious cookies, they will be awarded with furniture or clothing. The stars on a fortune cookie indicates the rarity of the prize contained inside them.

Some fortune cookies can be obtained with Leaf tickets or bells, whilst others can only be obtained with Leaf tickets.

There are a variety of fortune cookies available for purchase. Cookies will be changed occasionally, so make sure you check back.

You can also be gifted fortune cookies as a reward from animals.

    Stamp cards:

For every cookie you buy with leaf tickets, you will earn one stamp. Once you’ve earned ten stamps, you will get a stamp card. You can trade stamp cards in for various items, depending on how many stamp cards you have.
You can also trade them for items you would normally only get from fortune cookies.

    Memories:

New furniture with associated memories is also coming. Upon obtaining certain furniture, as well as fulfilling other necessary requirements (such as having certain animals come to visit), you will be able to view exclusive memories featuring those animals.

    Cookie introduction:

Nintendo have said that more information on fortune cookies will be available over the next few days. For now though, they’ve given us the following information:

Marshal’s pastry cookie – Marshal’s pastry cookie will contain cute pastry-shop themed items that coincide nicely with spring. We think that a pastry-shop themed campsite is just what is ‘kneaded’.

Pastry shop kitchen – The pastry-shop kitchen will also be added, along with a corresponding memory. After fulfilling requirements, you can view a special memory that features both Marshal and Goldie.

Filbert’s rocket cookie – Filbert’s rocket cookies will contain space themed items. You can have an adventurous looking campsite and feel like a real astronaut by changing into the exclusive space outfit.

Rosie’s pop star cookie – Inside these fortune cookies you can get pop-star themed items, allowing you to reproduce a live-stage performance. Invite your favourite animals to your campsite and let them take to the stage.

    More to follow!

Nintendo recently started teasing the long anticipated arrival of Gulliver. Today Isabelle once again said ” Ahoy, campers! What’s that I spy on the horizon? Gulliver’s ship is approaching Sunburst Island! The seafaring seabird is sure to drop anchor soon. ” Gulliver is expected to arrive in Pocket Camp on April 10th. Up until now very little information about the reason of his appearance has been known. The datamining community was hard at work to make some sense out of the code. According to the community Gulliver will arrive with a new event in his pocket.

Players will presumably trade crafted furnitures and clothes for treats. Gulliver will hand over 1 or more treats for 10 furniture or clothes items. If you decide to give him good and valuable items, he will of course give you more treats. There are different sort of treats, which seem to be given out at random.

One of the most exciting things is, that if you provide a lot of valuable items in one trip to Gulliver, you will then unlock the Gulliver Villager, and a lot of nice treats as well! Last but not least, treats can also be given to animals for instant friendship points.

Gulliver is expected to arrive on April 10th. Keep in mind that the information above might change with the official release of the event this week.

In case you missed it, eie hard Animal Crossing fans can have their mayor or villager turned into an actual Animal Crossing Sticker Pack. If you are looking for more adorable games, check out the cutest 3DS games you will need to play here.

Tamagotchi has been around for what seems to be forever. It’s been 20 years since the West first got to enjoy the Tamagotchi. First released as a physical toy in the mid 90’s, it quickly became a phenomenon with many virtual pet games that followed. Nintendogs was another very successful virtual pet game released on the original Nintendo DS. Now Bandai Namco has gone a step further, and with the power of smartphones, they have released a brand new Tamagotchi experience to take with us wherever we go.

My Tamagotchi Forever is an adorable take on the original principle of the Tamagotchi.  Taking a first glance at the game, Animal Crossing fans will notice that the actual Tamagotchi pets look like something you would meet in the world of Animal Crossing. But this time around My Tamagotchi Forever packs a lot more features and activities to do. While these two games are entirely different, there are some similarities, and it seems as if Bandai Namco tried to capture the spirit and cuteness of Animal Crossing in their latest mobile game.

in My Tamagotchi Forever players will need to babysit their Tamagotchi nearly around the clock, unless your is Tamagotchi sleeping. It needs to be fed, taken care of – to make sure it’s not getting sick, be played with and so much more. You get the idea, it’s like a needy puppy who always seeks for your attention. Love or hate it, the Tamagotchi is just too cute to not fulfill any of it’s wishes.

For the first time the game also packs a whole town to explore. Players will be able to collect items and coins to customize the town. These collectibles are placed around Tamatown ( the name of the town ). You can find them inside buildings, around bushes, or with some of the villagers who may hide them.

Besides the usual nursing a pet, and the new Tamatown experience, players will also be able to engage in multiple mini-games. Hide and Seek, and candy crush like games just to name a couple of them. If you are intrigued and ready to adopt your new Tamagotchi, you can download My Tamagotchi Forever on the Google Play Store and on iOS App Store for free.

For more news on cutsey games, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp just received a bunch of new Animal visitors, check them out here. And The Sims celebrated their return to Mobile recently as well.
