Creature Resort is an upcoming mobile game now in early development by BIGUMAKU. The developers say in their most recent blog that they “had some values and themes in mind from the get-go, including relaxation, cuteness, and a sense of ‘home’.” We here at myPotatoGames are big fans of Studio Ghibli and this game is reminiscent of Spirited Away in the best possible way! See below for what we know so far and a glimpse at the artwork!

This armless fellow is nicknamed sunhog

    About Creature Resort

Creature Resort is going to be a resort management game with a difference: your guests will be creatures from all over a mysterious and colourful fantasy world. You’ll meet tiny magical spirits and elegant A-listers – but your spa hotel will need to be the very best it can be (lest you receive a negative review)!

The image above is the concept art the creators decided upon. According to their blog, they wanted something that “leans more towards low poly, but uses added texture and the odd extra visual interest to create a richer experience.” Furthermore, they continue to say that they wanted the world to feel magical and filled with secrets.

    Hilda Creatures

Hilda Creatures is another mobile game developed by BIGUMAKU and was produced in association with Silvergate Media. The game is based on the Netflix Original Series of the same name (currently available since 2018) which itself is adapted from the Hilda comic series published by a sister company of BIGUMAKU, Nobrow. If this is an indication of what they can do, we are all the more excited for Creature Resort!

Start your own adventure now alongside blue-haired heroine Hilda. Place items and wait to see who shows up: will it be a tiny Elf, a fluffy Woff or maybe an enormous Troll?! Watch the creatures play with the items, chat and picnic with them, then capture the moment with your camera! Meet them all, collect memories and new friends, and fill up your Friendship Book.

Elliot & Ko is a Paper Mario inspired game about cute animal friends exploring! This slice-of-life platforming game is about interacting with many areas each with their own lovable anthropomorphic animals to meet and puzzles to solve. The sole developer is Jacob, with the help of Angel who has done some wonderful concept art and designs for the characters and the architecture. The game is still in very early development but is planned for PC and mobile on both iOS and Android.

We here at myPotatoGames would like to thank Jacob for taking the time to answers our many questions about Elliot & Ko and we are very excited to share everything with you down below!

Right to left: Elliot and Ko

Meet the Elliot & Ko Team

Play as Elliot, accompanied by Ko, and meet new friends along your journey. Some characters are sassy, some are anxious, some neurotic, but all tend to be charming and friendly (in their own right), and always ready to chat. There’s a big focus on interactions and dialog so you’ll really enjoy talking to these quirky villagers.

Elliot: a sleepy sheep boy. They recently learned to count to 50, enjoys 12-hour naps, and is a little too hard on themselves.

Ko: a frosty deer that loves the cold (see t-shirt), relaxing, and eating food. He tends to be very quiet but certainly isn’t unfriendly!

Nettles: the cutest little bird witch around. She has too many plants, makes plans and immediately forgets about them, is a huge nerd, and wants you to like her boots and books.

Lily: a precious little frog that loves to skip around. More will be revealed about her at a later date.

Milk: loves Boba tea and growing her little garden. She grew up rather sheltered and became materialistic. However, she wants a chance to change and leave behind the boring daily grinds of the city.

    Your Adventure Begins…

In the prologue, you are in an ‘origami ocean’ in a lovely papercraft boat sailing toward the main town to the east. During this time, you will be given small challenges and taught the basics of controls, mechanics, and turn-based battles. When you reach the dock, you’ll enter the hub world. This Victorian area is a sophisticated town in beautiful pastel colors where posh aristo-cats live. Jacob continues to narrate the intro: “Its residents all take to the two little explorers quite quickly, if not in kindness at least in attention. Various interactions with the townspeople will set off plots and (side)quests throughout the game, including setting the first chapter in motion with the sprawling, dark, industrialized metropolis hidden beneath, unseen and unheard, an unspoken secret. Surely it’s nothing sinister, but a sign that the perfection and high society whimsical life above is not without its costs.

    Origami Ocean

Four Areas, Four Very Different Environmental Designs

Among the other residents, in the pastel town you will meet Meringue; a lazy cat that picks fights with the sailor rabbit down by the harbor. You’ll also meet his sister Muffin who owns her own little bakery. They are both very sassy and very rich.

This industrialized metropolis has very glamorous and large skyscrapers, with a heavy cyberpunk theme. Elliot and Ko quickly discover that many of the little workers here seem overworked.

There are currently two other worlds with two more chapters that Jacob is working on: a train that will lead you through a western canyon and directly into space, and a little snow-covered village. This mysterious and naturalistic town houses spirits and hidden ruins. The people that you will meet here aren’t immediately willing or able to speak with you. Below you’ll see images of the area-in-progress with snowflakes, steps made of ice, and northern lights.

    Snowy Village

    Battles, Quests, and Items

When you meet Lily, Nettles, and Milk, they will join you on your adventure and even in battle. You can choose your own party of three at all times. Each party member will have their own unique abilities. Re-enter past areas or keep checking out the hub world to discover new ways to use your partners’ abilities and gain access to new areas you weren’t able to reach before. Don’t forget to frequently speak to all of the NPCs for quests and other things to do, as well as shopping for supplies. These items include crafting materials and new abilities. You can also forage for items or receive them from enemy-drops.

Jacob emphasizes that the battles themselves will not be either repetitive nor a grind. You’ll be able to do microgames to pull off special moves and therefore should be plenty unique, fun, and engaging. Each battle may even have different conditions to fulfill. If enemy drops are wearing you down, the developer plans on creating cute little couriers that are more than willing to come and fetch any excess baggage you may want dropped off back in town. Jacob says he plans on having these couriers be adorable little puppies that come to you by parachute.

    For More Information

To learn more about Elliot & Ko’s development and progress, you can follow along on Twitter here and the Discord channel here. We wish Jacob all the best and can’t wait for the finished product of this adorable game and sweet/charming art style.

Today, June 13th, 2019, is the last day for E3 and we here at myPotatoGames have done a deep-dive into live-streams and hashtags for very promising games that you, the viewers at home, might not have seen. Below we get a closer look at new trailers and announcements from games we’ve never covered before and are excited to play.

    Lost Words: Beyond the Page

Modus Games had their booth (#2513) set up in the South Hall at this year’s E3 and were showcasing some of the games they have published: Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, Lost Words: Beyond the Page, Ary and the Secret of Seasons, and Bear With Me: The Lost Robots. One game stood out to us and that was Lost Words, a multi-award winning narrative game set inside a diary. The game is developed by Sketchbook Games and Fourth State and will be releasing December 2019 on PS4, Xbox One and Steam, which you can wishlist right here.

    About the Game

Lost Words is a 2D narrative adventure game where players move words to solve puzzles. The game features a story written by Rhianna Pratchett and ties the narrative into the gameplay in an unusual way; having the player running on and interacting with words to solve puzzles.

    Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin

Xseed Games had their booth (#4700) set up in the West Hall and were showcasing the following games: Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, BurgerTime Party, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, Heroland, Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed, Rune Factory 4 Special, and SENRAN KAGURA Peach Ball. We here at myPotatoGames wanted to show you Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, developed by Edelweiss, and combines side-scrolling action with deep crafting and farming simulation. The game is releasing on PS4 and PC this winter along with a newly announced Nintendo Switch version.

    About the Game

Players take on the role of Sakuna, a proud yet lonely harvest goddess who is banished to a dangerous island with a group of outcast humans. As she tames the island by defeating demons in gorgeous, mysterious natural settings, she will also find a home in a mountain village. This is where she will prove herself worthy of her title by harvesting rice and bettering the lives of humans. Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin has an emphasis on the artistry of cultivating rice, and the craft behind the agriculture.

    Sky: Children of Light

Sky: Children of Light was live from the stage of the E3 Coliseum today and we thought it looked so beautiful! Developed by thatgamecompany (the creators of Journey), this social adventure game is releasing on mobile devices for free this Fall. Furthermore, the game is getting an even earlier release for iOS this July which you can pre-order now. Other platforms such as PC and consoles will follow thereafter.

    About the Game

Join others to uncover mysteries of the desolate kingdom and team up to help recover and return the stars to their constellations. The game can be played with up to 8 players who can join a session through their smartphone or tablet. The co-founder discussed about how he wanted to make a game about friendship and compassion in hopes of creating a heartwarming online community where you need to collaborate. He also likens the world to a park with amazing views.

As always, stay tuned with us here for the latest E3 news as the day isn’t over yet! We’ll be posting about everything we know on Animal Crossing and more games you won’t want to miss!

A little history of Pokemon Rumble.

Although Pokemon Rumble Rush is currently only available in Australia, the rest of us will get to ahold of it soon enough. From what it sounds like, Rumble Rush is basically another sequel (or spinoff, cuz mobile) to the Pokemon Rumble series. The original, Pokemon Rumble, is a title that was released in 2009 for the Nintendo Wii. They made three sequels for the next generations of Nintendo consoles, and each title followed the classic “beat ’em up” themed play style.

LUNA The Shadow Dust is a point-and-click adventure and puzzle game developed by Lantern Studio, a small indie game design team of four. Unique features of LUNA include: wordless storytelling, beautiful cinematics, and a breathtaking original soundtrack. The game will release this summer of 2019 for PC, Steam, and mobile (iOS and Android).

Play as a young boy with his creature companion and solve puzzles to learn of the mysteries of the ancient tower that stands at the edge of world. Help the character bring back his lost memories and find out the darkest secret beyond the tower.

In addition to solving the puzzles inside the tower, you can also experience the world outside it with approximately 25 different locations. Moreover, players can jump and climb in the environments, and also interact with many different objects.

    Key Feature

    • Traditional frame by frame character animation
12 frames per second, 3 layers per frame. Over 250 animations and 20 minutes of cinematics. A nostalgic and time-consuming process – but really worth the challenge for a small indie team of four.
    • Single player mode with dual character control
Solve puzzles from different perspectives. Discover a story of true courage with two playable characters drawn together through an inseparable bond.
    • Think outside of the box
Spark your imagination and solve a wide variety of puzzles, presented in gorgeous hand-drawn environments. Puzzles work standalone, requiring no ‘hidden items’ or player backtracking.
    • LESS reading, MORE cinematics
We replaced a dialogue system with a series of beautifully hand-animated cinematics telling a mysterious story.
    • Engaging Original Soundtrack
Our composer created an original soundtrack, designed to immerse the player in the emotional highs and lows of the story, kindling goose-bumps along the journey.

Furthermore, the developers have announced in their blog of March that there will be a new demo coming soon. For more information you can go to the official website here. Afterward, check out another point-and-click game, Trüberbrook with us here. That game also has a unique visual-style; built by miniatures and then rendered digitally.
