You may have noticed the ability to craft an ocarina as a DIY recipe, or spotted a guitar in Nook’s Cranny. There’s a whole bunch of instruments that can be ‘played’ in the game. Whether you just want to make a bunch of loud noises with friends, or get creative with them, here’s all of the instruments in Animal Crossing: New Horizons & how to get them.

First off, you can ‘play’ an instrument by interacting with it/equipping it using the A button. You may just think that instruments like the ocarina, electric bass guitar, etc, play a load of random notes, which is mostly true.

However, like in New Leaf, if you are in a room that is playing music (or even outdoors in New Horizons), the instrument will play notes/chords that match the particular song you might be playing. This means you can have a multiplayer in-game band! However I still prefer the idea of 8 people just smashing the A button to make a load of loud noises from random instruments, and calling the ‘song’ ‘2020’.

The below list includes all of the instruments that we have discovered so far, and excludes equipment such as the microphone and effects rack. Let us know if we’ve missed any.

    Ocarina

The Ocarina can be crafted once the player has purchased the DIY for Beginners recipe book. It requires 5x clay to craft.

    Wooden Fish

The DIY recipe for the Wooden Fish instrument can be found in bottles that wash up on your beach. You will need 3x wood to craft it.

    Empty Can Kalimba

You can get the DIY recipe for the Empty Can Kalimba in bottles that wash ashore. Another way of obtaining the recipe for it is by reeling in a can whilst fishing. This may inspire your player and unlock the recipe also. You’ll need 1x empty can, 1x wood and 1x iron nugget to craft it.

    Gong

The DIY recipe for the gong can also be found in bottles that wash up on your beach. You will need 6x iron nuggets and 5x wood to craft it.

    Ukelele

The Ukelele is a craftable item that requires 5x hardwood. However, it is not yet clear how you obtain the recipe for it.

    Upright Piano

An Upright Piano can be bought from Nook’s Cranny for 53,000 bells

    Alto Saxophone

The Alto Saxophone costs 3,400 bells and can be bought from Nook’s Cranny

    Violin

You can purchase the Violin from Nook’s Cranny for 140,000 bells

    Electric Guitar (style 1)

This style of Electric Guitar can be bought from Nook’s Cranny for 3,100 bells

    Electric Guitar (Style 2)

You can buy this style of Electric Guitar from Nook’s Cranny for 71,000 bells

    Electric Bass Guitar

The Electric Bass Guitar can be purchased from Nook’s Cranny for 82,000 bells

    Synthesizer

You can purchase the Synthesizer from Nook’s Cranny for 66,000 bells

    Grand Piano

The Grand Piano can be bought from Nook’s Cranny for 260,000 bells

    Cello

This can be purchased from Nook’s Cranny for 130,000 bells

    Harp

You can purchase the Harp from Nook’s Cranny for 130,000 bells

    Virgo Harp

The Virgo Harp is part of the Zodiac Series. It is a craftable item, and requires Virgo Fragments to make. These fragments can be found along with star fragments on the beach the day after meteor showers. However, Virgo fragments can only be found between August 23rd to September 22nd.

    Marimba

The Marimba can be purchased from Nook’s Cranny for 4,300 bells

    Pan Flute

I obtained the DIY recipe for this from inside a bottle that washed up on one of my beaches. The recipe requires 7x young spring bamboo, so if you don’t have bamboo already, then you should go on a mystery tour where you may find an island with bamboo.

    Tambourine

This can be purchased from Nook’s Cranny for 1,500 bells

Check out this awesome YouTube video where a guy uses in-game instruments and garageband to create a song.

For all you magpies out there, you may be wanting to know if Gold Roses exist in New Horizons. They do exist, but like the 6 Golden Tools, they take some effort and patience to acquire. So let’s get to it, here’s how to get Gold Roses in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

    Obtaining The Golden Watering Can

You’ll first need the Golden Watering Can before doing anything else. You can get given the DIY recipe (which recquires one ordinary watering can and one gold nugget) to craft it after you have achieved a 5 star rating for your island.

How To Achieve A Five Star Rating For Your Island

Essentially, you will need to do the following to gain a five star rating:

    • Plant lots of flowers and make sure you have the right amount of trees
    • Get rid of any weeds growing on your island
    • Have the maximum number of residents living on your island (10)
    • Place a combination of bought and crafted items around your island
    • Place a load of fences

You can keep checking in with Isabelle who will inform you of your island’s rating, and give you tips on how to improve it. Once you check in with her and she tells you that you have a five star rating, she will give you the DIY recipe for the golden watering can.

    Obtaining Black Roses

In order to obtain Black Roses, you will need to cross-breed Red Roses in a mesh-like pattern (more on creating hybrids here). Plant enough Red Roses and you’ll get Black Rose hybrids.

    Obtaining Gold Roses

Once you have obtained a few Black Roses, arrange them in the same mesh-like pattern you did in order to create the Black Roses. You will then need to water the Black Roses with your Golden Watering Can. The next day, you may see Gold Rose buds appear between your Black Rose hybrids. If you see any Gold Rose buds appear, they will grow into fully formed Gold Roses the day after that.

    Gold Rose Selling Price

Gold Roses sell for 1,000 bells each, which probably isn’t worth the time and effort you put into obtaining them.

In order to see how the different roses should be placed, check out the YouTube video below for a full tutorial.

Players living in the Northern Hemisphere may have noticed pink cherry blossom trees ‘springing’ up amongst the usual trees. You might also have noticed the pink cherry blossom petals floating through the air. These petals can be caught with a net and used in Cherry Blossom DIY recipes. This event will last between the 1st of April to the 10th April. Unfortunately, it coincides with the Bunny Day egg hunt, where that blasted bunny Zipper, is inundating everyone’s islands with eggs galore, making Cherry Blossom recipes a little harder to find. So for those of you living in the Southern hemisphere who may be feeling left out, don’t be, as you’ll likely be able to participate in this event in October, when that creepy bunny has hippity hoppity-ed his way off of your property. Anywho, here is every Cherry Blossom DIY recipe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Tips On Obtaining All Of The Recipes

    • Shoot down every floating present with a red balloon attached. There is a chance that you may find a new Cherry Blossom recipe inside.
    • Check your beach areas for bottles that have washed ashore. These may also contain Cherry Blossom recipes. If you spot aa colourful bottle, it will contain a Bunny Day recipe instead.
    • Talk to your villagers as much as possible. They may share a Cherry Blossom recipe with you from time to time. Or a Bunny Day one… ?
    • Visit deserted islands, as you may find Cherry Blossom Recipes there also.
    • Make sure to play your game every day, as during a morning announcement, you may receive a DIY recipe.

Every DIY Recipe & The Materials Required

And in regards to catching petals, if at first you don’t succeed..

Angrily smash your net against a tree Try and try again. Happy Hunting!

Terraforming is an exciting feature that is brand new to the franchise. In previous games, players would have to use tile designs as paths. Whilst there were some creative path designs made, they often looked artificial, and laying each tile was time-consuming and monotonous. Additionally, players were unable to change the terrain of their town/map.

This is no longer the case, and players can now create their dream island after unlocking a special app. Here’s everything you need to know about terraforming in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

    How To Unlock Terraforming

In order to begin terraforming your island, you will need to be given the Island Designer app on your NookPhone by Tom Nook.

How To Get The Island Designer App

To get the Island Designer app, you will need to complete some steps to unlock ‘Project K’. You will then need to have at least a 3 star island for K.K. Slider to visit and perform a concert. After the concert finishes, Tom Nook will give you the Island Designer app on your NookPhone.

What Does The App Allow You To Do?

The app will allow you to place paths, and modify cliffs and rivers. However, you will need permits in order to begin waterscaping and cliff modifying, and for a wider variety of paths. The good news is that these permits can be redeemed using Nook Miles. However, they are rather pricey.

    Path Permits

Upon receiving the Island Designer app, you will only be able to place dirt and grass paths at first. However, the following paths can be redeemed for 2,000 Nook Miles each, except the Custom Design path permit which costs 2,300 Nook Miles. Having paths around your island will make it look surprisingly more inhabited. Laying paths is relatively easy, and you can even round the corners of paths.

    Waterscaping Permit

The Waterscaping Permit will set you back 6,000 Nook Miles. Whilst it is a hefty price to pay, this is probably the permit you’ll want to get first. The Waterscaping permit not only allows you to create and change rivers, but you can also create land bridges with it.

    Cliff Construction Permit

The Cliff Construction Permit also costs 6,000 Nook Miles. Again, it is a pricey purchase, but after reedeming it you can create and destroy cliffs. It’s important to note that you cannot create slopes with the Cliff Construction permit. You will still have to create these via Tom Nook at Residents Services.

For some inspiration on how to use terraforming to create your own ideal island, why not check out these YouTube videos below:

First introduced in Animal Crossing for the Gamecube, K.K. Slider is an iconic special NPC appearing in all the mainline games since then. The good news is that New Horizons is no exception. However, it will take a little time and effort before you can meet him. Here is how to get K.K. Slider to visit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

    Inititating Project K

Your first steps will be assisting Tom Nook with various tasks such as preparing for new residents, and upgrading the Residents Services tent into a building. Upon completing the Residents Services building you should go inside and speak to Tom Nook. He will confess to being a huge K.K. Slider fan, and would love for him to perform a concert on the island.

How To get A 3 Star Island Rating

However, you will need a 3 star rating for your island in order for it to be deemed good enough for K.K. Slider to visit. You can speak to Isabelle in order to find out your island’s rating, and get tips on how to improve it.

Increasing your island’s population should be your first priority. You will need at least 7 residents on your island to achieve a 3 star rating.

This can be done by building a campsite, and inviting any of its visitors to move to your island. You can also invite characters to your campsite by using Animal Crossing amiibo cards at the Nook Stop terminal. The amiibo card feature will be unlocked once you have visited Harv’s island.

Another method is to use Nook Miles Tickets to visit deserted islands. You may encounter characters there who can also be invited to your island.

Additionally, upon completing the Residents Services building, and inviting the first character that visits your campsite to move to your island, you’ll be able to sell plots of land for villagers to move into. Simply speak with Tom Nook inside Residents Services and for 10,000 Bells, you can pick a plot of land for a character to move into. This will encourage more characters to visit your campground and deserted islands.

Next, you will need to get rid of a load of weeds, and plant flowers and trees. You should also place fences and outdoor furniture, and speak to Tom Nook to build bridges and inclines.

As long as you keep checking in with Isabelle and follow her advice, she will eventually tell you that your island has a 3 star rating. Tom Nook will interrupt the conversation and inform you both that he is going to invite K.K. Slider to perform on the island immediately.

    The Concert & Unlocking Terraforming

The next day, K.K. Slider will arrive on your island and perform ‘Welcome Horizons’. the game’s theme tune. After his performance, you will receive a copy of the song in your inventory. You will also then be given the Island Designer app on your NookPhone after speaking with Tom Nook. This will allow you to start terraforming.

    Saturday Night Visits

After his initial concert, K.K. Slider will then visit every Saturday (some nice continuity), where you can find him in the plaza. At 6pm, he’ll start taking song requests from you. And just like in previous games, if you input one of his songs correctly, he’ll perform it for you. You will then receive a copy of that song. Alternatively, you can ask him to choose and he will simply play a song at random.

Bunny Day, which has essentially always been Animal Crossing’s version of Easter, will occur on April 12th this year. However, things are deifinitely being ‘Switched’ up in regards to the way it works in New Horizons. Rather than being just a one day event, players can participate in an egg hunt from April 1st to the 12th. From the different types of eggs, to the Bunny Day themed DIY crafting recipes, here’s everything you need to know about Bunny Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How To Kick Off Bunny Day

Whilst Bunny Day in New Horizons is on the 12th of April, players can participate in an egg hunt that lasts from the 1st of April to the 12th. On April 1st, Isabelle or Tom Nook will announce the upcoming Bunny Day event. If they haven’t done this yet, it means that you will need to download the latest patch for the game. Your next task is locating Zipper T. Bunny.

    About Zipper T. Bunny

Zipper T. Bunny usually appears on Bunny Day, and first made an appearance in City Folk. He has also appeared in New Leaf, Pocket Camp, and now in New Horizons. It’s heavily implied that he is someone wearing a costume, due to his name and the zipper on his back. Additionally, his mutterings have often suggested that he’s wearing a suit.

In New Leaf, he would become self-conscious and anxious if a player tried to talk to him from behind/look at his Zipper. This is impossible in New Horizons as he just keeps hopping around to face you.

Where To Find Zipper T. Bunny

It could take you a little while to find him on your island as he apparently will hide (although I found him hopping around in the plaza. Great game of hide and seek there buddy!). However, as he is forever hopping around, you should listen for hopping noises to help you locate him. Once you have found him, he will inform you that he has hidden different types of eggs around the island. The blasted bunny will then inform you that he has also hidden a load of Bunny Day recipes as well. If you find all of the recipes and craft them using the eggs you find, Zipper will reward you.

The 6 Different Types Of Eggs And Their Uses

There are 6 different types of eggs that can be found on your island (and other deserted islands). These can be used to craft the various Bunny Day recipes. The 6 egg types include:

    • Leaf Eggs: These can be spotted on trees and collected by shaking the trees like you would to gather fruit
    • Sky Eggs: These can be obtained by popping any colourful looking ballons that float by with your slingshot
    • Water Eggs: These can sometimes be acquired when fishing, and will look like medium sized fish.
    • Stone Eggs: These will sometimes appear amongst rocks, clay, iron nuggets. etc, when you hit rocks with a shovel (or axe).
    • Wood Eggs: These can be obtained alongside the usual different types of wood that you get when hitting trees with an axe.
    • Earth Eggs: These can sometimes be acquired by digging up the star shaped areas that normally indicate the presence of a fossil.

Tips On Finding The Bunny Day Recipes

    • Shoot as many colourful Bunny Day balloons out of the sky as possible. Sometime you will receive a Bunny Day recipe as opposed to a Sky Egg. The Bunny Day balloons will float across your island more frequently that normal balloons.
    • Speak with other Residents as often as possible. Sometimes they will provide you with a Bunny Day recipe
    • Collect lots of eggs and keep them in your pockets. This will sometimes give your player the inspiration for a new recipe when they find eggs.

Bunny Day Items & The Materials Needed To Craft Them

Egg Clothing & Materials Needed To Craft Them

Unlocking The Egg Party Clothes & The Materials Needed

By simply collecting as many of the different types of eggs as possible, you will unlock the recipes of all of the different egg outfits shown above. Once you have unlocked them all, you will be able to craft the Egg Party Hat and Egg Party Dress.

    Zipper’s Rewards

After crafting all 37 Bunny Day recipes, speak to Zipper on the 12th of April. He will give you a recipe for a Wobbling Zipper Toy. If you craft this and then show it to him, he will give you the final reward, which is the Bunny Day Wand. This wand is a pretty cool item to own, as like other wands, it allows you to change outfits on the go.

Although notoriously difficult to acquire, golden tools have appeared in all the mainline Animal Crossing games. If you have been wondering whether they can be obtained in New Horizons, the answer is yes, but it will take time and effort to own them. Here’s how to get all 6 golden tools in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Rather than receiving an actual golden tool for fulfilling certain requirements, in New Horizons, players will be given recipes to craft them instead. The crafting materials required are one standard version of the tool, and one gold nugget. Gold nuggets can occasionally be obtained by hitting rocks with your shovel. Therefore it might be a good idea to stockpile as many of them as you can.

Additionally, whilst golden tools are more durable than regular tools, they will break eventually. But as you will have already learnt the recipe for the tool, the only difficult part is collecting gold nuggets.

    Golden Net

In order to acquire the recipe for the Golden Net, you will need to catch every bug in your Critterpedia. You can kill two birds with one stone (or one bird with many bugs) by donating any new bugs you catch to the museum.

    Golden Fishing Rod

You will receive the DIY recipe for the Golden Fishing Rod after completing the fish section of your Critterpedia. However, it will take time to receive this recipe, as the fish you catch will change with the seasons. Therefore, like with bugs, you can use this oppurtunity to donate any new catches to the museum.

    Golden Shovel

In order to get the recipe for the Golden Shovel, you’ll have to help the pesky pun-filled Gulliver 30 times. The seagull sailor randomnly washes ashore from time to time. If you locate the 5 communicator parts necessary to fix his phone so that he can be rescued, he will send you a reward in the mail.

    Golden Slingshot

The exact method required to attain the recipe for the Golden Slingshot is currently unknown. In previous games, a player could receive a Golden Slingshot by shooting down a certain number of balloons. Whilst unconfirmed, it is thought that the ‘It’s raining treasure’ Nook Miles achievement for shooting down 300 balloons will earn you the recipe.

    Golden Watering Can

To receive the recipe for the Golden Watering Can, you need to achieve a perfect 5-star rating for your island and speak to Isabelle. This involves having a sufficient number of happy residents. Additionally, you will need to improve your island’s appearance by pulling weeds, planting flowers and trees, completing projects etc. You can speak with Isabelle at Residents Services to find out your island’s rating, and to get tips on how to improve it.

    Golden Axe

In order to obtain the recipe required to craft the Golden Axe, you will need to have destroyed over 100 axes. The destruction of flimsy axes, stone axes, and regular axes all contribute towards acquiring this recipe. Therefore if you’re dead-set on acquiring the golden axe, use flimsy axes where possible, as they are the easiest to break.

Providing you have the Custom Designs app on your NookPhone, you can create your own designs (including transparent ones) and scan QR codes to obtain other people’s designs. If you have unlocked the Able Sisters store in New Horizons, you will probably know that there is a kiosk at the back of the store. Once you have used Nook Miles to purchase the Pro Design upgrade, and have a Switch Online membership, you can share and save Pro Designs using ID codes. Entering a creator ID code at the kiosk will show you all of the designs created by that player. Entering a Design ID code at the kiosk will take you directly to a specific custom design. There are so many great designs being created by players, some of which you can find here. But here are more fan-made custom designs in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
