Something new makes me laugh every day in regards to New Horizons. Whether it’s quirky villagers, humourous dialogue, relatable memes, or odd in-game occurences, I can often be found cackling to myself. And as sharing is caring, here are some of my favourite funny moments and memes from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Watering the same flower for like the fifth time, just to be sure.

Katt using a crafting bench to craft a crafting bench and gave me the recipe. Now I can craft yet another crafting bench and can go to my pre-existing crafting bench to go craft that crafting bench. Thanks I hate it.

He wanted fireworks in the piñata?! Health and safety are not amused.

I did not sign up for this.

*Nodding* I just hate it when that happens

I’m gonna pass on that offer dude…

Tom Nook falling asleep during Blathers’ speech. How rude!

Isabelle’s concern for you (those eyes tho), yet she works into the early hours of the morning…

Would you like me to bring you one Blathers? owo

When your residents start becoming self-aware

Ur a wizard Harry (loud volume warning…)

With a whole bunch of QR code designs to scan into your game, as well as the being able to share designs at the Custom Design Portal, players are spoilt for choice in regards to custom content. There’s a whole load of cool clothing designs being created (some of which you can see here, here, and here). But with cute clothing designs galore, here are some cute non-clothing custom design codes for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

There are some tips and tricks in the game that Nintendo don’t exactly tell you about. However, there also some lesser known cool little ‘secrets’ in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

Popping balloons with a bug net

Providing you have a ladder and bug net at the right place and time, you can actually pop balloons with a bug net. simply ascend a cliff to a higher level and whack the balloon present with a net as it flies past. This isn’t particularly useful, as a slingshot is much easier, but is cool nonetheless.

Scaring off wasps with party popppers

If you have a party popper on you whilst shaking a tree containing a wasp nest, you don’t have to try amd catch them, or run for shelter. Instead, you can scare them off with a party popper. Party poppers can be purchased at Nook’s Cranny for 100 bells a ‘pop’.

Eat Turnips to fill up your fruit meter faster

As turnips are in bundles of ten, if you eat one (10) from your pockets, it will fill up your fruit meter and make moving trees much faster.

    Residents can play musical instruments

Residents can play (certain) instruments placed around the island. (The ones that you can simply walk up to and press A to play notes).

Residents can play specific songs on instruments

If you catch a resident playing an instrument, place a stereo/music player, select a song, and the resident will play along to that song.

Boundary breaking in the aiport allows the players to interact with Wilbur

For those that are into boundary breaking and no-clipping (and those that aren’t), this is pretty cool. If you visit another players island and boundary break past the airport gate, you will find Wilbur and can talk to him. If you do this on your own island, he will still be there, but there will be empty dialogue upon interacting with him.

You may have noticed a rusted communicator part in your recycling bin and wondered if it is just junk. However, rusted communicator parts can be used in the game. Here’s some info on the purpose of and how to acquire rusted communicator parts in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

    What Are They Used For?

Rusted communicator parts are essential materials in order to craft the Robot Hero Nook Miles recipe. If you have the Robot Hero recipe, and 30 rusted parts as well as:

    • 90 Iron Nuggets
    • 10 Gold Nuggets
    • 1 Gold Armor
    • 1 Rocket

The Robot Hero item is yours!

    How Can They Be Obtained?

Gulliver often can be found unconscious on your beach. Upon waking him, he needs to contact his crew with his ‘handy dandy’ device and be rescued. (Even though he’s a seagull?). However, it turns out his device is not as handy or dandy as he thought. He will request your help in searching for five (non-rusted) communicator parts on your island’s beaches. They resemble manila clams, spout a small amount of water and can be retrieved by digging them up with a shovel. The days Gulliver wash up are random, but the day after, there will always be a rusted communicator part in the recycling box.

The reason I told you about helping Gulliver? Well time for a not so wholesome method of gaining those rusted communicator parts more quickly. If you agree to help Gulliver, and dig up the five communicator parts he needs to be rescued, but don’t give them to him, eventually, they will turn into rusted communicator parts also.

If the crafting materials for the Robot Hero item still seem a little extreme, but you’d really like one, why not check out sites like Nookazon. Here, you may be able to facilitate a trade with somebody for one. 🙂

How To Stop That Menace Of a Seagull From Washing Up On My Beaches?

Sorry, we can’t answer that one. Fill your beaches with rusted communicator parts? Oh the ‘iron’-y.

    I’ll let myself out.

    Singing Constantly

Marina thinks she’s so cute singing the same darn song over and over in the plaza from her hideous hole for a mouth. Do you have a resident that does this and want them to pipe down? Bash them with a net.

    Naruto Running/Being Airplanes

One resident ‘being an airplane’ is bad enough, but sometimes three of my island’s residents will plot a joint Naruto run (yes, I see you what you’re really doing) in the plaza. You’re scaring the bugs! Did Blathers send you? A solution for this behaviour you ask? Again, bash them all with nets.

Getting In The Way Whilst Terraforming

Um Rocket, I’m trying to pave? A solution? you could just give them a little nudge out of the way. Or, you could sentence them to six hours in jail for being a menace whilst YOU attempt to improve the island (also, for being ugly). If you don’t have jail bars, not to worry, just dig a nice few holes around them. owo

Sitting In The Middle Of A Bridge

“Hmm, I know where I’m going to sit and eat my lunch on this vast, beautiful island.” said Beardo. “Right in the middle of that bridge over there that connects the entire island!” Solution? you could gently push them until they stand up, and then nudge them off the bridge. Alternatively, you could passive-aggressively remove all of the bridges and pole vault. After all, the others ‘bearly’ contributed anyway.

Pretending To Think About Moving Out

Yes, you, Rocket, you serial offender, you. Wondering around with a pondering expression and ‘that’ cloud above your head. I get my hopes up that you’re thinking about finally leaving and decide to talk to you! But instead you just randomly give me some dumb item I already have. Solution? Amiibo time!

Being able to customize your NookPhone case is pretty cool. And you probably know the drill by now, but if you have the Custom Designs app on your NookPhone, purchase the Custom Design Pro Editor for 800 Miles, and have unlocked the Able Sisters, you will be able to use ID codes for some awesome designs (providing you have a Switch Online membership).

(See here and here for some seriously cool custom clothing). But people aren’t stopping at just clothing designs. There are some amazing paths, signs, and phonecases being created and shared by talented people. A good place to find some of these designs is Nook’s Island (formerly Nookpedia).

But to save you some browsing, here are some of the best NookPhone case designs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Wisp is a lamp spirit visiting NPC, who like other characters such as Gulliver, will appear randomly on your island. If you’ve not yet encountered him, here’s what happens if you meet Wisp In Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

When & Where He Will Appear

In previous games in he franchise, Wisp could be found between midnight and 4am. In New Horizons however, he can be encountered at any point between 8pm and 4am. There is no set date or day that he will appear, and some players have reported seeing him more than once in a week. He tends to roam around forest areas, but can be found anywhere on your island.

What Happens When You Talk To Him

Wisp isn’t really a character you can ‘talk’ to as such. In City Folk, he will mention that he is (ironically) scared of ghosts. Having been alone on your deserted island, if you interact with him he will become startled and his spirit will split. He will then ask for your help in collecting his five other floating spirit pieces from around your island.

    Catching The Spirit Pieces

These can be caught with a net, but will float around, making it someime hard to locate them all. They do make a floating noise, so be sure to have your volume turned up. Additionally, some users have reported that they often find a couple of the spirit pieces near the Residents Services area.

    Returning Them And Your Reward

After you have located and caught all five pieces, you should return to Wisp in his diminished form.

He will be grateful and offer you a reward. Unlike removing weeds and roaches, like in some of the previous games, he will reward you with an item. You can choose between ‘Something Expensive’, and ‘Something New’. Whilst you may be tempted to go with the something expensive option, Wisp does warn that he has trouble discerning the value of items. So you could end up with a cardboard box. So it’s usually advisable to go for the ‘Something New’ item, as at least you won’t already own or have catalogued this item.

    What Happens When He Returns?

The same darn thing. He’ll still be spooked, despite knowing the island is now inhabited, the silly spirit. But then again, with the possibility of aliens, who wouldn’t be..

Let’s face it, we’re in uncharted territory. Not unlike the deserted island many of us traveled to on the 20th March. And whilst we can’t simply just pretend that things aren’t happening in the real world around us, Animal Crossing: New Horizons released at the perfect time.

Why? You may ask. Well there are many reasons why the game’s delay from 2019 to 2020 was a blessing in disguise.

    Escapism

The Animal Crossing franchise is notorious for allowing players to immerse themselves in a wholesome environment. Starting with not a bell to your name, as your house grows, so do your flowers and your friendships. If you don’t have many friends in real life, or are self-isolating like most of us are right now, you can seek comfort in the animals inhabiting your island. With the introduction of terraforming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can get really creative and make your island your very own. Hours really do fly by when playing the game. The multiplayer feature, alongside the Animal Crossing forums and social media groups, can also help lessen loneliness. You can play with a bunch of other people who love playing the same game as you. Therefore it’s not surprising that friendships and even relationships have been formed through the magic of the franchise.

    No Rules

You have no bills to pay (or at least until you feel like it), and who cares if you have no money? You don’t have to distance yourself from your in-game neighbours, nor do you have to wash your hands until your skin starts to crack. You won’t get fined for leaving your house, and you can buy as many toilet rolls as you like.

    No Danger

There is no danger in the game (apart from wasps, tarantulas and scorpions) but death is non-existent and medicine is abundant. You can even be self-sufficient with the new DIY crafting feature in the game. Fruit is plentiful, although your character doesn’t need to eat.

Just A Wholesome Distraction Where The Fun Doesn’t End

This is especially pertinent when taking into consideration the game’s slow-pace. There’s something to do everyday, and Animal Crossing games have never been games you can ‘beat’.

If you look out towards the sea from the secret beach on your island on a clear day, you can see New Horizons.

In the words of Katrina, let us remember that bad times, are just times that are bad.

And that there is hope, for me, and for you.
