The Different Mystery Tour Islands In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

One of the features of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the ability to go on mystery tours to other ‘deserted’ islands. More often than not, you’ll end up on an island with the same native fruit and flowers you have on your island. However, you may be lucky enough to visit some of the rarer mystery tour islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How To Visit A Mystery Tour Island?

In order to visit you’ll need to have purchased a Nook Miles Ticket for 2,000 Nook Miles from the NookStop terminal at Residents Services.

You then need to speak to Orville, (the Dodo behind the counter at the airport). Next, select the ‘I wanna fly!’ option. The you select ‘Use Nook Miles Ticket’. After this, you will be flown to a random deserted island. Most of these islands will offer the same insects, fauna and fruit that is native to your own island. However, here are some of the more interesting ones.

Hybrid Lake Island

This is a small island with a lake that is surrounded by lots of hybrids of the same type of flower. The bugs that can be caught here are mostly the ones you’d find near flowers back on your own island. The fish in the small lake that is surrounded by hybrids, are mostly koi or goldfish.

Hybrid Waterfall Island

This island is similar to ‘hybrid lake island’, however, this version of the hybrid island has waterfalls and a small pond that will spawn fish at a regular rate.

Money Rock Island(s)

There are two types of money rock islands. Again, you must have upgraded Residents Services in order to visit these islands. The first version requires you to eat some fruit, smash through a rock, and then pole vault to a small little island which has a circle of money rocks. The second version of the island has the money rocks dotted around the island. Either way, ensure to bring your pole vault and ladder with you on excursions.

Bamboo Island

‘Bamboo Island’ is an island that has no palm trees on the beach, and no trees on the island. The island has just one level and is full of bamboo, young bamboo, and bamboo sprouts (can be dug up). Players can then take bamboo sprouts back and grow them on their own island.

Finned Fish/Shark Island

To be able to visit this island as one of the mystery tour islands, you will need to have upgraded Residents Services from a tent into a building. You will only be able to catch finned fish on this island (you’ll see their fins sticking out of the water). This means any fish you catch will be either an ocean sunfish or sharks.

Trash Island

‘Trash Island’ is an island where players can only ‘fish’ trash. Whilst this may seem junk, Nook Miles and DIY recipe inspirations can be garnered from catching trash.

Gold Rock Island

To visit this island, again, you will need to have the Resident Services building. This island is one of the rarer ones, and contains a single rock which will only drop gold nuggets. You will need your ladder and vaulting pole in order to access the rock.

Tarantula/Scorpion Island

This was an island which infinitely spawned tarantulas in the colder months and scorpions in warmer months. It has seemingly now been patched. However, there are tutorials on how to strip deserted islands and make your very own ‘tarantula island’.
