We can’t complain. 2018 is looking like a good year for the Switch game-wise. With ports such as Night In The Woods, Terraria and Hollow Knight, and upcoming releases such as Kirby: Star Allies, Wargroove, and Fe, there is seemingly plenty to keep gamers busy. However, due to the gameplay quality on the popular console, there are still many games that people would like ported. Here are five games that we think should definitely be ported to Switch. Don’t forget to check out our huge list of games released this month right here.

    Undertale

    Did you kill Goat Mom?

In Undertale, you play as a small child who finds itself underground in a world full of monsters. Some of which are hostile. As you journey through the game’s vibrant underworld in order to find your way home, you get to make moral decisions regarding how you face opponents. With it’s entertaining narrative and forgivable guilt-tripping, this popular pixel graphic game should definitely be ported to Switch.

    Fantasy Life

Level 5’s The Snack World has been confirmed for Nintendo Switch. But their popular game Fantasy Life would be great too!

Fantasy Life is a 3DS game set in a vibrant fantasy world. Players choose a life for their character at the beginning of the game, but can switch between lives whilst completing the adventurous storyline and numerous quests. The 12 lives to choose from are: Alchemist, Angler, Blacksmith, Carpenter, Cook, Hunter, Magician, Mercenary, Miner, Paladin, Tailor, and Woodcutter.

With it’s aesthetic graphics, engaging storyline and entertaining premise, Fantasy Life would make a great addition to the Switch.

    Super Smash Bros

Super Smash Bros is a popular series of crossover fighting games which feature popular Nintendo characters such as Kirby, Pikachu, Link, Mario etc. The latest release (which was released in 2014 for 3DS and WiiU) would make an excellent port for the Switch. The latest entry contained 19 brand new fighters. There was also new third-party characters such as Mega Man, Pac-Man, Ryu, Cloud Strife, and Bayonetta. Nice!

    Firewatch

Playing as a lookout in the 1989 Wyoming wilderness, something strange draws you out of your lookout tower and into the forest. This story-rich game, which is based on player choices, will reveal a ‘tailor-made story’ and keep you on the edge of your seat.

The game had a very positive reception and obtained IGN’s award for best mystery game of 2016. You’d therefore think it would have been ported to the Switch by now. Because, yanno, capitalism. Nope. This popular first person adventure game is yet to ‘Switch’ consoles.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

This HD remake of the original game was very well received. Boasting a rating of 90/100 by Metacritic and a 9.8/10 by IGN (although IGN are notoriously generous..), many fans complimented the much improved graphics and small tweaks that made gameplay more interesting. Therefore it’s unsurprising that lots of people (admittedly mostly the Zelda addicts..) have called for this game to be ported to the Switch.

What games without a Switch port do you think slipped through the Animal Crossing bug net?

The game is an indie action adventure RPG with colourful graphics similar to Adventure Time.

Explore a charming overworld, discover dangerous dungeons and improve your player in a delightful village whilst on your quest to banish the evil that plagues the island. Use the legendary sword of Ditto and join other players in co-op battles as you embark on the adventure of a lifetime in a world filled with a variety of characters, loot and battles.

2017 wasn’t all doom and gloom. It brought us (or rather, game developers Infinite Fall brought us) the well-received, atmospheric, and story-rich game, Night In The Woods. Fans of the game, Nintendo Switch owners, and those who simply haven’t got round to playing it, will be pleased to hear that the game will be available for Nintendo Switch on February 1st.

The adventure-platformer game will cost $19.99 on Nintendo Switch.

Additionally, the Switch version of the game will include the new Weird Autumn edition (which was released December 13th for other platforms).

The Weird Autumn edition has been described as ‘a director’s cut’ of the original game.

Those who bought the standard version needn’t fret however, as they can download the Weird Autumn patch for free.

It was also announced on Twitter that the game will be released for mobile at some point in 2018.

    About Night in The Woods

Mae Borowski, a female feline college dropout returns to her hometown of Possum Springs, only to find that it’s more depressing than ever.

Things are the same as they have always been, yet entirely different.

It seems that adulthood has hit her friends in the face with a frying pan.

As Mae attempts to rekindle friendships and adapt to new circumstances, she suspects that sinister things are occurring. People are disappearing and somebody is following her.

As the nights grow longer, and the trees become bare, it soon becomes apparent that there’s something in the woods.

But will people take the worries of a disliked dissociative dropout seriously?

The description on Steam describes the game as:

‘An adventure game focused on exploration, story, and character, featuring dozens of characters to meet and lots to do across a lush, vibrant world.’

Highly relatable, vibrant, and tinged with dark humour, Night In The Woods is a must-play.

If you’d like to find out more before purchasing the game, why not check out IGN’S review of it here.

We’ve compiled a list of the eight best story-rich games, relevant to casual gamers. From the wilderness of Wyoming to the remarkable realm of Rakuen, here are eight critically acclaimed games we think you’ll like.

    Firewatch

Firewatch is an atmospheric walking sim adventure game developed by Campo Santo. Set in 1989, you play as a man who is a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness. But something strange leads you to explore the nearby forest, where you have to make decisions that can potentially build relationships, as well as destroy.

Rated ‘Very Positive’ on Steam and often praised for it’s story and interactivity, the game is definitely worth a play.

Plus, it’s currently 60% off in the Steam winter sale and is available for just £5.99

    To The Moon

With ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews, if you haven’t played this emotional game already, we recommend that you break out the tissues and get started.

Described as a Story-Rich indie Adventure game, To The Moon is somewhat like a Black Mirror episode, although without the horror. Albeit being a little old, considering it was published in 2011, the game is still highly regarded.

Two doctors are able to give patients on their deathbeds another chance to live, right from the beginning. The catch is that the experience is only in their head, and they die once they reach the end of that life.

The game features elderly patient Johnny, where the two doctors attempt to fulfil his lifelong dream. As they uncover fragments of his past, it becomes clear that he only ever had one real wish; To go ‘To The Moon’.

Again, this game is currently on sale, and with a 75% discount, is only £1.74!

    Finding Paradise

Finding Paradise is a sequel to the aforementioned game, To The Moon. The game was released on 14th December 2017 and is therefore very new.

This game also has ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews on Steam, and is a must-play for those who enjoyed To The Moon.

In this game, the two doctors have a patient named Colin. They attempt to unravel a life split down the middle, and fulfil his dying wish, which appears self-contradictory.

This game is 10% off and only £6.29

    Undertale

Undertale is a story-rich RPG by tobyfox with ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews.

Described as ‘The RPG where you don’t have to destroy anyone’, Undertale is story-rich due to your character’s journey, and also due to player choices affecting the game.

You play as a human child who has fallen underground into the realm of monsters and thus, tries to find their way home. You encounter both good monsters and bad along the way, which you can choose to spare or fight. There are a variety of puzzles to complete in order to progress, and a variety of interesting areas to explore.

This game is 50% off and only £3.99.

    Night in The Woods

Night in The Woods is an atmospheric story-rich indie adventure game developed by Infinite Fall.

The game features college dropout Mae Borowski who returns to her hometown. Dismayed that her home is more dead-end than she remembers it, Mae discovers people have been going missing. This combined with weird dreams and spooky encounters leads Mae to investigate; and for her friends to think she’s batty.

With a variety of characters to meet, places to explore and a clever storyline, NITW is another game where player decisions count. Although the storyline won’t change dramatically, thorough exploration allows users to have more meaningful interactions with other characters, and to build friendships with those who you choose to spend time with.

This game is 25% off and only £11.24

    Hollow Knight

With ‘Very Positive’ reviews on Steam, Hollow Knight is an indie action adventure metroidvania game where players can ‘forge their own path’.

The game, developed by Team Cherry, takes place under the ‘fading town’ of Dirtmouth. Many are attracted to the kingdom below the surface in hope of wealth, power and glory.

The ancient ruined kingdom below, is an expansive inter-connected world for players to explore. From caverns, to deadly wastes, you can befriend bugs, battle baddies and solve ancient mysteries at the very heart of the kingdom.

This game is 34% off and only £7.25

Additionally, a port for the game is being released for Nintendo Switch early this year!

    What Remains of Edith Finch

What remains of Edith Finch has consistently been reviewed positively by the media and has ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews on Steam. Developed by Giant Sparrow, the game features Edith Finch, who is the last remaining Finch family member.

In this story-rich atmospheric walking simulator, you play as Edith, and explore the Finch’s Washington house in an attempt to uncover how the rest of the family died. You’ll experience strange tales from the distant past, right up to the near-present, each explaining how various family members died. Morbid? yes. Intriguing? Also yes.

This game is 35% off and only £9.74

    Rakuen

We have mentioned this game before, so apologies for featuring it again. But it definitely deserves a place among the most story-rich games on Steam due to its heart-warming storyline and beautiful graphics.

This game is 35% off and only £4.54

D[dropcap][/dropcap]o you remember playing the highly popular Secret of Mana game from the successful Mana series?
Do you wish you could play it again, or get the opportunity to play such a highly regarded game?
    Well you’re in luck!

Square Enix, (the masterminds behind the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy series’), have nearly completed their 3D remake of the game. The game’s official release date is Feb 15th 2018. However, pre-purchasing the game gets you exclusive DLC suits for your characters (Moogle Suit for Randi, Primm and Popoi, Tiger Two-Piece for Primm, and Tiger Suit for Randi and Popoi) as well as a custom downloadable wallpaper.

If you live under a rock (like a certain pink starfish) and have never heard of Secret of Mana, allow me to enlighten you. The game is a story-rich anime JRPG game that was created by Square for SNES back in 1993. By far the most successful game in the Mana series, Secret of Mana has been highly praised for it’s satiating storyline, superb soundtrack, and gorgeous graphics. It’s therefore unsurprising that the game is available for iOS, and is coming to Steam, PS4, and bizarrely, PS Vita.

Fans of the game will be pleased to hear that the story-line and characters in the remake are true to the original. However, Square Enix have switched things up and introduced new additions and perks such as:

    • 3D Graphics
    • Modern controls
    • Modern action RPG
    • A custom downloadable wallpaper
    • Armour DLC
    • Newly arranged musical score
    • Voiced characters
    • Co-op multiplayer
    • Interlude episodes
    • Game log
    • Achievements

Additionally, avid art fans may be interested in the amazing artwork (created by HACCAN-san) that is showcased on the game’s Steam page.

This refreshing rendition of a timeless cult classic can be pre-purchased here for a reasonable price of $39.99

    Nostalgia awaits you..
