Cozy Grove is an adorable survival and camp building game inspired by no other than Don’t Starve and Animal Crossing.

If you have ever played Don’t Starve you will most likely be very familiar with the concept of Cozy Grove. For the ones who haven’t – much like in Don’t Starve – a survival game as the title already gives away, In Cozy Grove you will find yourself on a haunted island and you will be tasked to bring color back to it.

The haunted island may appear empty and overtaken by florals but as you continue to explore and gather resources you will quickly begin to build up a new camp on the deserted and remote place and breath some life back into it.

The game features a huge hand-drawn world that becomes more colorful as you help the haunted spirits around. As you embark on your adventure you will meet dozens of different and interesting characters and spirits.

Everyone you meet will have his or her own backstory that you uncover over time.

    Cozy Grove

While the game has plenty of storyline that you may indulge in, just like in Animal Crossing New Horizons you will be able to gather resources to craft all the items you desire. Build up your camp and create the coziest place you can possibly imagine.

In addition you can also fill your spare time by spending an afternoon fishing, gardening or other activities you find joy in. In Cozy Grove there is always something to do and only you decide which directions your very own haunted island will take.

    Cozy Grove update

Cozy Grove is now available on Nintendo Switch and Steam and has received many updates since the launch of the game.

New Ghost Bears and New Environments

The first Cozy Grove is a game about camping on a haunted island with a real-time day/night cycle mechanic like Animal Crossing. As a Spirit Scout, you’ll wander the island’s forest each day, finding new hidden secrets and helping the local ghosts. Activities include: collecting spirit animals, crafting decorations, going fishing. The developers, Spry Fox, have just announced that they are currently working on Cozy Grove 2.

With the sequel underway, that means there won’t be any more major updates for Cozy Grove. Although, you can read the rather extensive post-launch updates here, if you’re interested. So far, all we know is that the sequel will have “a bunch more new ghost bears, in new environments. And Flamey. And Scoutmaster Blake.”

Cozy Grove 2 is in Early Development

Cozy Grove 2 is still a ways away with an unofficial launch estimate of late 2023. For now, you can check out its predecessor on these platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Epic Games.

If you haven’t kept an eye on Echoes of the Plum Grove by developer Unwound Games, you should check it out now! In this charming game, you start a brand new life in Honeywood. There, you’re given a plot of land after you’ve washed up on the shores of the island. It’s up to you to turn that plot into a functional, prosperous farm. Of course, there’s much more to the game than just farming!

Echoes of the Plum Grove is a casual, cozy farm simulator where your decisions directly influence your gameplay. What you plant on the farm, the items you stock up on to survive winter, and the friends you make determine the way Honeywood will develop. You can even make enemies! Of course, survival is your number one priority, but don’t forget to take time to indulge in the festivities the town has to offer. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, after all. And unlike other farm sims, there’s a generational aspect to this game. You can get married, have children, and when your character dies, you can continue the game playing as one of your children or other relatives. This lends a fun and fresh element to the game you don’t often see!

    Release Date

Echoes of the Plum Grove has finally been released on Steam, too!  It’s even on sale for 10% off until May 6th, so if you’ve been eyeing this game, now’s a great time to pick it up.

Cozy Crest is a unique farming simulator to keep an eye on!

Echoes of the Plum Grove by Freedom Games is a farm sim where you play as what looks like a person straight from Colonial America. You embark on a journey to a new land to settle and set up a farm where you’ll live out your dream life. However, disaster strikes, and you find yourself washed up on the shores of Honeywood island. There, you’re returned to health and handed a parcel of land to tend to. Spend your days farming, getting to know the townspeople, decorating, cooking, and fishing. Even build a legacy and play through different generations of the family you built.

The Demo is a Great Peek at the Coming Fun

I received the demo of Echoes of the Plum Grove and I am in love! The graphics in this game are so charming and I’m enamored by them. The environments are gorgeous and full of life. Each building has its own personality, but the map thankfully labels the buildings so you have an easier time navigating around town. Run into the cozy bakery for tasty treats, or visit the accommodating town hall to talk to the mayor, then run down to the bog to talk to the mysterious town witch. There’s different areas to explore that exhibit their own vibes perfectly.  Plus, there’s fast travel between signposts!

I also really enjoy the character designs of Echoes of the Plum Grove. They’re varied and the different outfits seem to match character personalities. They also have a Paper Mario feel as they’re not 3D. The dialogue seemed pretty baseline and normal, but not unique enough to set it apart from other games. What’s really fun is that you can make choices to befriend the people or antagonize them and make enemies. The generational family aspect is quite unique, and is something I think will set this game apart from others. Raising your children, then playing as them, or others, after your character perishes is a fresh take many have craved. Eternal youth is great, but getting the chance to grow old and have family that are more than just there is fantastic.

I can’t wait for this game to be released!

    Release Date

You can find Echoes of the Plum Grove on Steam, where you can Wishlist it. However, the Steam page lists the release date as this year. I’m hoping it’s sooner, rather than later.

Blue Oak Bridge is another cute farming sim, but with magic and weird little creatures.
