A new spin-off from the DRAGON QUEST franchise, DRAGON QUEST TREASURES, was showcased in more detail in the last Nintendo Direct Mini. The story revolves around siblings Mia and Erik before the events of DRAGON QUEST XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

Each of them have unique treasure-hunting abilities to reach new areas and help find items such as statues, artifacts, and other valuables!

It’s confirmed in the new trailer that you’ll be able to alternate between playing as either Erik or Mia. You’ll also be bringing your haul back to your base for appraisal. With the profits you can upgrade and expand your home and level up your Treasure Hunting Level.

Dragon Quest III is getting an all new coat of paint for its console remaster, in the style of Octopath traveler.

Great big, wonderful news for all you classic RPG fans out there. It has been officially announced that Dragon Quest III is being remade for current set of consoles. The game has been titled Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, which perfectly describes the aesthetic treatment that the game has gotten. The developers of the new version also happened to part of the team that created Octopath Traveler, and are taking much inspiration from that game to redesign DQIII.

The North American version titled Dragon Warrior 3

The original Dragon Quest III was released on Super Nintendo back in 1996, the same year as such classics as Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64. The game follows the classic story of Hero (male or female, your choice) going on a grand adventure to save the world from an ultimate evil. A tale that never quite gets old, and can be even more exciting now that we may experience this specific tale in a way never experienced before.

Square Enix announced that the game will have a simultaneous worldwide release, but did not say when that release will be. Given the scope and level of grandeur of the changes made to the game, I can’t imagine that the release is any further than right around the corner.

    Announcement Trailer

In similar Dragon Quest news, to celebrate the 35th anniversary, there is a huge sale on DQ games right now.

For more wonderful news for the RPG genre, you can now pre-order your own physical copy of Kitaria Fables.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate gets some heroes from Dragon Quest XI as playable characters.

Great news for both Smash Bros. fans and Dragon Quest fans. Announced at the Nintendo Direct for this years E3 conference, it looks like our favorite heroes from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be added to the already impressive line-up in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Now you’ll have the ability to fight as up to four new characters from the popular series.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character list seems to be ever expanding. The original line-up began with 69 characters, and two more were quickly added ad DLC. Smash Bros. has always been there delivering us the ability to play as our favorite classic Nintendo characters, and pit them against each other in a fight to K.O. Ultimate now allows us to play as such epic characters as Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII and Ridley from the Alien series. Now the list looks that much bigger with the inclusion of possibly 4 more characters, all from Dragon Quest XI.

    Dragon Quest Hero DLC

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age was exceptionally well received, praised for its visuals and classic turn based combat. It has stood side by side with the Final Fantasy series for quite some time, so it makes sense that these popular characters would finally join in the great brawl. Check out our other article for the announcement of another new pair of characters joining Smash Bros.

Update: One of the characters is from Dragon Quest XI but the other three are from other games of the Dragon Quest series. Together they are collectively known as The Hero.

    • Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation
    • Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
    • Dragon Quest VII: Journey of the Cursed King
