At myPotatoGames, we love cooking games. We love tycoon and management games, too! And we’re so happy when we uncover games on Nintendo Switch that are like hidden gems that encompass one or all of those genres. Check out Marenian Tavern Story, Automachef, World Tree Marche and Gym Hero for affordable family-friendly games with lots of foodie fun! All available right now.

Marenian Tavern Story: Patty and the Hungry God

You may not know this, but Marenian Tavern Story: Patty and the Hungry God is actually a sequel to Adventure Bar Story on the 3DS. But you don’t need to play one to enjoy the other! Patty is a young woman with a brother who has been possessed by the god of poverty. Because of this, her family has been saddled with terrible debt! You’re going to have to pay that back, and opening a tavern seems like the best way to do it. Explore, gather, fish and garden to get your ingredients, and uncover over 600 recipes to use them in. Level up by eating great food so that you can conquer dungeons and discover ever better and rarer ingredients. What kind of menu will YOU put together?

    World Tree Marché

World Tree Marche is an easy-going game that won’t make you feel rushed or under pressure. You are the Royal Food Adviser, and you must run the world tree’s market. To do so, you will need to guide six chefs (all named after spices!) in creating new and exciting recipes to earn money for the struggling world tree and stop the terrible plans of the Gourmand Corporation. Each chef you work with has their own personality and story, as well as unique strengths and weaknesses. (See our previous article on World Tree Marche for a more information and a trailer.)

    Automachef

In Automachef, you may be more engineer than epicure, but that won’t stop the hijinks! Your job is to design (and build) automated restaurants. To do so, you will need to solve puzzles in spacial placement, resource management, and scenario-specific situations. You can do this in campaign mode, contracts mode, or let lose of all constraints in sandbox mode. Guide your somewhat hapless protagonist, Robert Person, to success, with lots of laughs along the way. See our pre-release article about Automachef for a full list of features!

Gym Hero – Idle Fitness Tycoon

At this point, you may have gotten TOO MUCH great digital food. To our surprise, the Switch has a game to balance that. In Gym Hero: Idle Fitness Tycoon, you get to take an unmotivated couch potato and spiff their empty little room up into their own personal gym. Buy exercise equipment, motivational posters and health supplements and press your character to use them properly. After all of that cyber-cooking, you can also reach your digital dream weight! Who knew?

If you’ve already drained the Nintendo Switch e-shop dry of cooking content, there’s more to look forward to in the future. Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3 is entering early access on PC in January and we hope it will end up on Switch someday, like its predecessor. For the mother of all cooking games, check out Cooking Mama: Cookstar, latest in the Cooking Mama series, coming to Switch and PS4 in October!

In our last article here on this life simulation game about owning your own sushi restaurant and getting to know your customers, created by indie studio Catch & Release, we had mentioned that the crafting mechanics were getting an overhaul. Now when you make your sushi, the flavor, richness, and complexity will change when you switch ingredients. With the most recent Patreon post, Matthew Taylor goes into details with the revamped Customer I.D. card and the “Mood” section.

    Customer I.D. Card

As stated, “All of these changes are in an effort to make furniture, food, and customer interactions (both with you the player and with other customers and the environment) as meaningful and interesting as possible.” See below for everything that will affect your customers’ moods and expectations when visiting your sushi restaurant. We’re also loving the wicked name of this wizard character if you catch our drift.

    Comfort

Has the customer been standing for a long time waiting for a seat? You’ll see their comfort level fall steadily. Look for some comfy furniture when you’re shopping in town. Customers will be thankful!

    Environment

Although the act of expressing yourself through customizing the restaurant’s interior is already fun, knowing that your customers appreciate the carefully crafted ambiance is a big plus.

    Fun

In Rolling Hills, you serve a wide variety of customers. That includes children (and playful adults) who value having fun and being entertained. The most obvious examples here are music coming through a jukebox or a pinball machine in your waiting area, but even chatting with customers and serving extravagant dishes can make things more fun for your clientele.

    Food

Saved the best for last! Managing a customer’s hunger is your #1 priority in Rolling Hills. Richer dishes will fill this bar even faster, so keep this in mind when crafting your next masterpiece!

    Mood

This combines all of the previous stats, weighing food a little more heavily than the rest (it is a restaurant, after all) so that you can see at-a-glance how your customer is feeling.

    Appetite and Budget

They are similar in that they determine how much a customer can consume. When a customer has a full belly or an empty wallet, it’s time for the check!

    Expectations

These are kind of like the customer’s difficulty level. The reason we display each subcategory is because different customers expect different things. The Caveman character won’t be too concerned about the ambiance of the restaurant, but he’ll have high expectations when it comes to food. After all, he’s used to the freshest ingredients possible!

The developer has noted that there is an “Info” and “More” screen where the former is a summary screen with all the things you’ll want quick access to, and the latter is a secret for now which you’ll unlock as you level up the customer. We’re definitely looking forward to trying this game out on either Steam or through the PlayStation Store whenever it releases!

Cooking Mama was one of the most beloved franchises ever made. With an unprecendeted amount of charm, cute gameplay and adorable graphics fans were extremely sad when the Cooking Mama franchise was put to rest… until now!

The first Cooking Mama game was released in 2006 and the franchise since has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, making the series a huge success. The franchise has since seen several more games with Cooking Mama Sweet Shop being the last one ever released. After the release of Sweet Shop it was announced that it was the last title in the series.

Cooking Mama: Coming Home to Mama Features an all new “Vegetarian Mode” where players who don’t want to prepare meals with meat have the choice to use other vegetarian ingredients instead. Players will also be able to use the Switch’s motion controls for an engaging meal preparation and cooking experience.

There has been very little news about the game with some hints to a new multiplayer experience and an in-game reward system for cooking events being the only details revealed so far. We are looking forward to get cooking again this fall – Welcome Home Cooking Mama!

Cooking Mama: Coming Home to Mama is expected to release on Nintendo Switch in fall 2019.

Check out our Cooking Mama: Sweet Shop review for some delicious details about the latest Cooking Mama game.

Food preparation games such as Cooking Mama have always had a special place in our hearts. But since that series has been put to rest, we were left stranded to fill the void Cooking Mama left behind. Cooking Simulator takes our passion for food into a realistic cooking experience and creates a yummy cooking adventure right on the screen!

Cooking Simulator is the most realistic cooking experience you can get on your computer. The game lets players choose from dozens of tools, pots and pans to cook up whatever your tastebuds desire at the time. Realistic ingredients and measurements let you practice or just dream away in the kitchen.

While the game offers a sandbox mode in which you can just do whatever you want in your own kitchen kingdom, Cooking Simulator also comes with a more quest based mode.

The career mode is a culinary journey that takes you from a beginner cooking level to a master chef. In this mode you will start with limited resources and as you keep cooking and making yum-yum food you will level up and grow into an experienced master chef who can whip up anything.

Cooking simulator is now out on Steam for PC. If you love food, cooking games in a realistic fashion this might be the game for you! For a more playful cooking experience check out our tribute to the latest and last Cooking Mama game.
