Animal Crossing New Horizons is finally here and after years of waiting fans were so excited that New Horizons broke every single sales record previously established by the franchise.

Famitsu, popular Japanese gaming magazine revealed today that 1.88 million copies of Animal Crossing New Horizons have been sold in Japan alone. These numbers already look beyond impressive yet they don’t even take digital sales in account.

To put the numbers in perspective Animal Crossing New Leaf managed to sell about 15 million copies within the last 7 years. New Horizons launch sales are about three times higher than the ones of the New Leaf launch.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is now the biggest single game launch on Nintendo Switch since the console first came out. With a huge player base like this it will be interesting to see what post launch content Nintendo has planned. The first easter event is set to begin on April 1st!

At the beginning of the game, Mr. Nook is one very generous Tanuki (yes, yes!). Instead of having to pay off the itemized bill for the Nook Inc. Getaway Package in bells, you can use Nook Miles instead. Nook Miles can be earned by completing various tasks such as catching fish and bugs, speaking to neighbours, pulling weeds, etc.

After paying off the itemized bill for the Getaway Package however, things will become more costly. Tom Nook will offer to upgrade your tent into a house.

But ever, the enterpeneur, it will require bells as opposed to Nook Miles to pay for it. You won’t have to pay for it up front, but you will still have to pay 98,000 bells for it before you can upgrade it. And once you have a house, you will want to furnish it, and furniture costs bells. Clothing and accessories also cost bells. They say money makes the world go round, and apprently island life is no exception! So here are some ways to make bells.

Use Nook Miles To Buy Bells:

Once you’ve unlocked Nook’s Cranny, you can buy Bell Vouchers from the Nook Stop machine for 500 Nook Miles a pop. Each Bell Voucher will give you 3,000 bells upon purchase. If you save up your Nook Miles, this is a great way to access cash quickly.

    Selling Weeds:

In previous mainline Animal Crossing games, weed-pulling was nothing but a monotonous nuisance. In New Horizons however, weeds are a lot more interesting believe it or not. As well as there being a variety of different looking weeds, you can actually sell them and receive Nook Miles for doing so.

    The Stalk Market:

The stalk market return in New Horizons. Previously, players could buy turnips from a boar named Joan. In New Horizons however, Joan’s grandaughter, Daisy-Mae, has taken on the role. Daisy-Mae will visit your island every Sunday, where she will sell turnips that vary in price from week to week. If you play your cards right, you can make a tidy profit selling them to the Nooklings. But bare in mind that their prices change daily, so you could end up losing money.

    Selling Bugs And Fish:

The Nooklings will buy any bugs and fish that you catch on your island. You can sell your catches at the residential services tent, and at Nook’s Cranny once you have unlocked it. You may want to donate the first new bugs and fish that you catch to the museum though, so that they can be added to the museum’s collection. Beware when trying to catch tarantulas though..

    Selling Fossils:

Like with fish and bugs, you may want to donate any new fossils you dig up to the museum. However, fossils can also be sold to the Nooklings and tend to fetch a good price.

    Daily Money Rock:

Every day, there will be one rock on your island that is a money rock. A money rock will produce bells when you hit it with a shovel. It can be a little time tiresome going around your island hitting rocks until you find that day’s money rock. However, it’s money at the end of the day. Just make sure to use a stronger shovel than the flimsy shovel, in case the flimsy shovel happens to break whilst your hitting the money rock.

    Shaking Trees:

A variety of items can be obtained by shaking trees in New Horizons. You can sell the fruit that you get from shaking fruit trees, and trees will drop branches which can be sold too. Sometimes, shaking a tree will result in a piece of furniture being dropped, which can be sold to the Nooklings. Sometimes shaking a tree will result in a swarm of angry wasps chasing and stinging you. But hey, you win some, you lose some.

    Hot Item Of The Day:

This money-making method is similar to the daily premium items that Reese would purchase for a higher price in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. In New Horizons, after you unlock Nook’s Cranny, the Nooklings will randomly select a ‘hot item of the day’. They will buy this item for double the price they’d usually pay you.

    Other Money-Making Methods:

    • If you see a glowing gold-coloured spot, use a shovel to dig and you will unearth some bells.
    • Shells can be collected from the beach and sold to the Nooklings.
    • If you shoot down a floating present with your slingshot, you will either receive bells, or furniture which you can sell for bells.
    • If you complete favours for other residents, they will reward you with bells, or furniture or clothing which can be sold for bells.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is only a few weeks away and today Nintendo shared some insight on how to create your new villager in the next game!

Animal Crossing New Horizons blurs the gender lines even more than New Leaf did. Speech bubbles don’t reveal genders anymore and generally the game is a lot more inclusive.

The villager customization tool is no exception where you can freely choose between any eye shape, noses and lips without the restriction of genders. Take a look at the in-depth video below showcasing the new way to create your adorable villager!

Sole developer behind Peaceful Days shared a little update with his fans this morning. The farming and life sim game coming to Steam needs a little bit more time before we can start playing it.

Peaceful Days is an adorable life and farming simulation game where you call the tiny village your home. Talk to the villagers, care for your farm and make yourself a vital part of the village. Peaceful Days is definitely a game to keep an eye on if you enjoy gems like Stardew Valley and Story of Seasons.

    Peaceful Days slightly delayed

Nhat shared a tweet earlier this morning stating that he was “Sorry for the delay” as he is waiting on the translation team to finish proof reading the games story. Nhat further explains ” I hope I could release it sooner but it’s Lunar New Year here, it has been really busy for me and the translation team. I just added new contents while waiting for them to finish their proofreading.”

So even though the game will be a few days late, it is exciting to see that he took the time to implement a few more features into the game!

    More about Peaceful Days

If you are eagerly waiting for Peaceful Days, you can wishlist it on Steam already and also check out my in-depth coverage on the game – including the new jobs right here.

Hearthstead is an upcoming farming and life RPG game with all the elements needed to make for an engaging experience. Games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon have redefined the farming and lime simulation genre, with marriage relationships, seasonal events and just so much more to do.

Hearthstead aims to capture the hearts of the above named games by retaining beloved features as well as adding new gameplay mechanics to the popular video game genre. The game is set in a fantasy like world while still being relatable to our current environment. However, the fantasy setting allows the game to take different paths with very little to no creative restrictions. I am thinking fairies, mermaids and garden gnomes who can help with chores!

Hearthstead features an unseen level of customizations

The developers behind Hearthstead are making a big push for customizations and allowing the player to enjoy the game the way they want to. In example on the official Heartstead website the creators say “Customize, customize, customize: Build and personalize your farm, your home and your character to your heart’s content. Hundreds of customization options await you!”

This is especially exciting for farming and life simulation games as they are to be played for a long period of time and creating your own world is a big part of the joy. The developers further explain that customization options don’t stop here, players will be able to adjust pretty much anything to their liking.

Change how fast time goes by

Some players find the time restrictions in games like Stardew Valley or Story of Seasons to be somewhat of a burden. Hearthstead tackles this issue by allowing players to adjust any of these things “Find fishing too hard? Toggle easy fishing! Time goes by too fast? Tweak the timescale!” This level of customization is something I personally am very excited about!

    HearthStead

Hearthstead is currently in development for PC with no release date yet. The developers are not ruling out a release for Nintendo Switch and other consoles later on! You can follow the developers on Twitter for up to date information on the games progress of course I will be keeping an eye on this little gem myself as well!

For more farming related news, Chucklefish is working on the Stardew Valley of Magic.

A new Story of Seasons for Nintendo Switch has also been confirmed and is well underway!

    Hearthstead Features

Enjoy your fantasy life in the town of Hearthstead. You own a piece of the land and it’s up to you to decide how to engage with the game world.

Farming, crafting, fishing, foraging, town events, holidays and more! Activities and tasks are abundant and ready for you to engage with.

A colorful and varied cast of characters for you to meet: Dozens or interesting individuals make life in Hearthstead and its surrounding area. Uncover interesting stories and take part in the life in town.

Customize, customize, customize: Build and personalize your farm, your home and your character to your heart’s content. Hundreds of customization options await you!

Player options and accessibility are key: The game features many options to fine tune the mechanics to your own style of play. Find fishing too hard? Toggle easy fishing! Time goes by too fast? Tweak the timescale! You’ll be able to play and enjoy Hearthstead your way!
