The newly signed publishers of The Good Life, Irregular Corporation, have announced the game will release in Summer of 2021.
For those that haven’t been following, the release date for The Good Life has been TBD for quite some time now, despite having a story trailer released well over two years ago, and having a previous release date set for fall of 2019. Well, the new publishers of the game have announced that there is finally an official release date. The Good Life will release in Summer of 2021 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
What is The Good Life?
Play as Naomi, a journalist from New York who moves to a backwoods British town called Rainy Woods in order to pay off her massive debt. The only way for her to escape from debt hell is to take pictures of happenings in the town and report on them. Of course, ‘the happiest town in the world’ is not your average town…
The inhabitants of the happiest town in the world are some of the most bizarre people you’ll ever come across. You’ll live alongside them as you solve mysteries and experience a hearty helping of craziness. We’re sure that you’ll eventually come to love all the mystery, horror, and good old charm that this town has to offer.

The Good Life was officially confirmed for release on Switch at this years Indie World Showcase.
The Indie World Showcase has been a super reliable way of keeping up to date on all the cool and cute indie games coming to the Nintendo Switch. I have been keeping my eye on The Good Life for some time now, and am so excited that it not only has a release date, but that it is indeed coming to Switch.
What is The Good Life.
The Good Life is an upcoming life simulation game co-developed by SWERY and Yukio Futatsugi. In the good life the player will jump into the role of Naomi, a journalist from New York who moved back into a small British town called Rainy Woods, in order to pay off her huge debt.
After so much waiting and anticipation, it has been announced that this real-life Animal Crossing is releasing for the Nintendo Switch sometime this year. Unfortunately, that is as close as we get to a solid release date at this time.
Along with the announcement, Nintendo has given The Good Life its own web page on the official Nintendo website with more information about the game.
Indie Showcase Coverage

Microsoft assures us that this year’s X019, their global celebration of everything Xbox, is going to be the biggest we have ever seen! For those of you that aren’t attending in person in London, UK from November 14th-16th, 2019 at the Copper Box Arena, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! During this 3-day event, I’ll be watching and giving you the scoop on the most ‘potatoey’ games. You can also watch as well as all key moments, mainly Inside Xbox, will be live-streamed on Mixer, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Twitch.
Xbox FanFest (for attendees with tickets) will start off the event Thursday (tomorrow) at 7pm GMT/2pm EST/11am PST to get hands-on with some games. Inside Xbox will start to live-stream shortly after for the rest of us at 8pm GMT/3pm EST/12pm PST. According to a recent Tweet by Xbox, we can expect the following:
- 12 Xbox Game Studios titles (including new reveals and PC)
- New PC and Console game reveals for @XboxGamePass
- Big Project xCloud news

The Good Life is a simulation RPG developed by SWERY and Yukio Futatsugi, as well as the teams at White Owls and G-rounding. You play as New-Yorker Naomi, who moves to a strange town to pay off her debts by selling her photography. You’ll get to snap photos for money all while investigating the town’s murder and secret! I previously mentioned here that the game will be releasing sometime in the Fall of 2019, however The Good Life has been delayed to Spring 2020 in order to release the game in its best form. The game is still set to release on Steam, PS4 and Xbox One, and you can pre-order a copy right here! You’ll notice that the Nintendo Switch version is left out and that is because it was a large Stretch Goal during their Kickstarter campaign. Unfortunately, the developers didn’t meet this goal. However, I’m still holding out hope that they will find another way to fund it.
Several improvements have been made to The Good Life since that announcement including: better and more detailed graphics, a larger map, additional characters and their animal counterparts, gardening, fulfillment needs for Naomi, new items, and more! Below are some images from those new additions and from their September 2019 update. It looks like it will be so much fun to explore these new snowy mountains for beautiful scenery shots, and the mines for some clues perhaps? This Tater will keep you posted as I continue to keep an eye on The Good Life’s progress.

The Good Life is a debt repayment daily-life RPG co-developed by SWERY and Yukio Futatsugi, along with their teams at White Owls and G-rounding. Languages will be in both Japanese and English with the possibility of others as subtitles. You can still help fund them on their Kickstarter campaign here as they are very close to their big stretch goal; bringing to game to the Switch. The Good Life will release this Fall 2019 on Xbox One (as well as Xbox Game Pass), PS4, and PC. Look forward to snapping tons of photographs to earn yourself some money, and to discover this strange town’s secret as well as uncovering a mysterious murder!

The townspeople are also hiding a big secret…
In the moonlight, all the townspeople suddenly transform… And suddenly, the town is filled with cats and dogs! Once a month, everyone who lives there transforms into either a cat or a dog. Naturally, Naomi and the player will also turn into a cat or a dog. What happens in the town depends entirely on you! How the townspeople behave, how their lives play out, and how the story ends… It’ll all change based on your decisions.
You’ll be able to select whether you want to transform into a cat or a dog at the very beginning. But if you get far enough in the story, you may reach a point where you can freely switch between them…? Turn into a cat and climb up to high places, scratch walls, and steal fish and chips from kitchens… Or turn into a dog and dig holes, follow scents, and swim in rivers and lakes… It only happens once a month, so make sure you enjoy it to your heart’s content!
More Information
Note that the gameplay video above has some crude language dialog and is not geared toward younger children. However, the game is very relaxing and mostly centers on open-world exploration and taking pictures. You can take photos of anyone, anything, anywhere, and even see in-game what’s trending to earn yourself more money. Interact with every object that you see and place them wherever you want to take your own unique photos. Some photos will be requested from villagers to complete quests and push the story forward. You might even have to get crafty as some townsfolk will stop what they are doing if they can see you. Furthermore, upgrade your camera to take better quality pictures!
