[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he creator of Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, Edmund McMillen, are hard at work on a new secret project. McMillen and programmer Tyler Glail have been working on the project for some time.
Writing on the Binding of Isaac blog, McMillen wrote “Not many of you know this, but Tyler and I have been in crunch mode for the past 3 months trying to finish this secret project. We are coming close to announcing it and its release date, so keep and eye out for it.”
McMillen and Glail have been working on Ouroboros while McMillen is also simultaneously working on The Legend of Bum-bo. This secret project is most likely to be something different from those two projects.

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]ight Singapore based indie studies have announced plans to develop titles for the switch. The eight studios are Daylight Studios, Gattai Games, The Gentlebros, PD Design Studios, Rotten Mage, Springloaded, Tyler Projects, and Zengami.
These teams are pursuing game development with the switch after meeting with Nintendo at the DigiPen Game Conference that was held this past February.
Here are some quotes from the developers about the Nintendo Switch Indie Games:
“We feel our game’s mechanics and aesthetics would be perfect for the Switch and players would enjoy playing our game on a new console!” said Ivan Moltini, PR & Communications of Daylight Studios.
“We love couch multiplayer games, and the Switch’s unique blend of portability and local multiplayer support brings that mode of play to a larger audience than before,” Andre Pong, Design + Stuff Guy of Gattai Games said.
“The Switch comes with an amazing ability to be both a home console and a portable system. We feel Cat Quest would be right at home because of this,” said Desmond Wong, Chief Executive Bro of The Gentlebros
“The Nintendo Switch fits nicely into our game’s play mode. Dusty Raging Fist is a couch co-op game. Players can bring the game anywhere on the go and still enjoy playing together with the Switch’s separable joycon controllers. We believe this feature strongly reinforces our game’s fun factor,” said Ken Poh, Studio Director of PD Design Studios.
“Nintendo has been very supportive, and Switch suits our creative DNA perfectly. It’s a fantastic, amazingly versatile console that opens the door to creative new games. We think it will be a big success and are delighted to develop for a Nintendo console once again!” said Andrew Carter, Director of Zengami.
“The Switch shares the same design philosophy that we have: Enable users to play anywhere, anytime. With a powerful system, it also allows us to develop games with fancier graphics,” said Leonard Lin, Chief Executive Officer of Tyler Projects.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + is a compilation of all previous DLC and the base game. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + was supposed to be a launch title for the Switch. When it got delayed, fans of the series were pretty upset.
Isaac is a roguelike twin stick shooter where you collect items, currency, and battle various monsters. Nicalis boasts that there are 11,000 + dungeon configurations and 600+ items to collect. While playing the game extensively, we find these statements to be quite accurate.
Where Isaac really shines is the replayability of the game. There are a variety of different characters with unique play styles that you unlock through various means. After you unlock the characters, there are tons of secrets to unlock as well as 20 secret endings. You also have the option to purchase items from a shop in order to beef up your character.
Isaac offers challenges (separate mode from story) that consists of progressing through the dungeon with different items equipped from the start. You can also play Greed mode where you fight waves of enemies. You can also play online single player and compare your progress to others in the leaderboards which reset daily. Isaac offers local co-op multiplayer but it lacks substance.
Isaac is a game that you can pick up and play at any time. We have put hours into the title and have yet to come across the same room configuration or the same items. The randomness of the game and the challenge keep me coming back again and again. We look forward to unlocking all the characters and eventually discovering all the items.
Let us know how you feel about Isaac in the comments below!
