[dropcap]L[/dropcap]ate last year, three different sources spoke to Eurogamer and confirmed that Nintendo has intentions of bringing virtual console to the Switch. What is interesting about the Virtual Console for the Switch however is that it will have Gamecube titles.

The three titles that are currently ready for virtual console are Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion, and Super Smash Bros: Melee.

While the range of what will be available on the Switch Virtual Console is not known at this time. It is expected that Nintendo will offer an upgrade program similar to what is on the Wii U currently, where earlier purchases of Nes titles will be “upgraded” for a small price, instead of purchasing the game twice.

It is also rumored that the company behind the Mini Nes (Nintendo European Research and Development aka NERD) will be doing the development for the Switch virtual console.

The next game to be on the slate for Gamecube emulation is Animal Crossing. It is currently being tested for release.

We will more then likely hear later this year about additional confirmed details regarding the Virtual Console. Nintendo has been pressuring developers to come out with titles for the Switch so the virtual console will be able to “fill the gap” between huge releases.

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]rozenbyte has released details about their upcoming game Nine Parchments about coming to the switch. It is due to release on Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2017. No official release date has been announced.

Frozenbyte’s CEO Lauri Hyvärinen has commented on the official announcement of bringing the game to the Switch:

We love Nintendo Switch! We’ve been ecstatic about the success of our roguelike action game Has-Been Heroes, and we love all the improvements made to the development environment, it’s a great platform! Nine Parchments is a wonderful co-op game and feels like a perfect fit for the system. We can’t wait to unleash the wizard mayhem later this year!

Nine Parchments is about a group of wizards who decide to drop out of training and go straight to adventuring instead. Because of this, it is expected that learning powerful spells will come at a cost since they are woefully under prepared.

    Gameplay includes:

    • Wielding the power of the elements and master a diverse and ever-changing arsenal of spells

    • Unlock new playable characters, wizard hats and magical staves

    • Level up and train your characters in the magical arts, but choose your path wisely!

    • Battle strange creatures & mighty bosses in a breathtakingly beautiful world, set in the Trine universe

    • Online and local co-op with 1-4 players

[dropcap]L[/dropcap]ast week during an investors conference, EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson made some comments about bringing titles to the Nintendo Switch. The full transcript of the conference has been released and with it, Wilson’s official comments on the Switch.

    Wilson said:

We feel really good about it. Again, we came out early and said that we’ll be supporting the Nintendo Switch with our biggest title in FIFA. We have a tremendous relationship with Nintendo and have done for many, many years and are excited by the fact that they have come out very strong and are bringing in a whole new player base into the ecosystem. We continue to be bullish on it and are looking at other titles that we might bring to the Switch.

Right now the only title confirmed for the switch is Fifa 18. Down the line, perhaps EA will be more forthcoming with other titles.

[dropcap]L[/dropcap]evel 5 issued tons of new information about Layton’s Mystery Journey today. They have included a game description and details about episode 1. They also detailed a mini-game that appears after you reach a certain point in the game.

The game description provided is as follows:

Professor Hershel Layton has suddenly disappeared, so in order to find her father, Katrielle begins a “General Shop and Puzzle-Solving Detective Service” and establishes the Layton Detective Company. She takes on all sorts of cases from finding pets to determining culprits in murder cases, and her bizarre ideas continue to result in her achieving accurate results in solving mysteries. Obtaining such a reputation, the Layton Detective Company continues to receive many kinds of requests.

    Gameplay

How the game basically works is you investigate cases in various places, examine “suspicious things” on the screen with a magnifier, and collect information(Flash coins, puzzles, collections) in order to solve the case.

    Some additional insights into gameplay:

    – When the magnifier turns orange, tapping there will trigger conversations with citizens or obtain Flash Coins and Puzzles.
    – When the magnifier turns cyan, you can zoom in. Some hints are available on zoomed-in screens.
    – When the magnifier is covered in smoke, it means tapping there will obtain Collections.

Similar to past Layton games, this entry also has a mini-game that’s available after proceeding through a certain point. The mini-game is called “The Ideal Dinner”. You listen to requests, check out the requester’s favorites by talking to related people, and provide the ideal dinner course to the requester that consists of Hors d’oeuvre, Soup, Main Dish and Dessert. The variety list of those with requests and cuisine will be added as the story progresses.

    Episode 1

One of the hands of Big Ben has been stolen. It is said to be a symbol of London. The hand must be found before Ambassador Melarco visits from a neighboring country. The hand must be found before the press conference begins. This is where Scotland yard inspector Aspoiro requests that Katrielle investigate the incident.
