[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + is a compilation of all previous DLC and the base game. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth + was supposed to be a launch title for the Switch. When it got delayed, fans of the series were pretty upset.
Isaac is a roguelike twin stick shooter where you collect items, currency, and battle various monsters. Nicalis boasts that there are 11,000 + dungeon configurations and 600+ items to collect. While playing the game extensively, we find these statements to be quite accurate.
Where Isaac really shines is the replayability of the game. There are a variety of different characters with unique play styles that you unlock through various means. After you unlock the characters, there are tons of secrets to unlock as well as 20 secret endings. You also have the option to purchase items from a shop in order to beef up your character.
Isaac offers challenges (separate mode from story) that consists of progressing through the dungeon with different items equipped from the start. You can also play Greed mode where you fight waves of enemies. You can also play online single player and compare your progress to others in the leaderboards which reset daily. Isaac offers local co-op multiplayer but it lacks substance.
So why should you buy it?
Isaac is a game that you can pick up and play at any time. We have put hours into the title and have yet to come across the same room configuration or the same items. The randomness of the game and the challenge keep me coming back again and again. We look forward to unlocking all the characters and eventually discovering all the items.
