Now you’ll have to excuse us for wishing the year away. But following on from the announcement of a certain much awaited Switch game, we decided it would be nice to compile a list of all the games of 2019 that we are very much looking forward to playing.

    Ikenfell

Ikenfell is a JRPG game which utilizes turn-based and timing-based battle mechanics. The game’s publisher is Humble Bundle, and its platforms are PC, Mac and possibly Linux. Humble Bundle are helping to polish the game, market it, and will hopefully add it to Steam in 2019. It was hoped that the game would be released this year, but the developers recently announced the postponing of it until next year. This is because they want to deliver a top-quality, flawless game, and would rather development took a little longer to achieve this, as opposed to rushing the game and compromising its quality.

    Mineko’s Night Market

Mineko’s Night Market is a cute cat-themed upcoming game for PC, Mac and Switch by Meowza games. You play as Mineko, a girl who has just moved to a superstitious island overrun with cats. The aim of the game is to find materials, craft items and sell them at the Night Market. You can befriend villagers, fish, undertake quests, play mini-games, plus more! Whilst it was initially hoped that the game would be released in late 2018, its release has now been pushed back until 2019.

    Kingdom Hearts III

Kingdom Hearts III is an upcoming action RPG game that is being developed and published by Square Enix. The game will initially be released for PS4 and Xbox One. Kingdom Hearts III is set in an array of Disney and Pixar worlds. The game features Sora, a young boy and unknowing heir to a spectacular power. Sora is accompanied by popular Disney characters such as Donald Duck and Goofy who attempt to stop an evil force known as the Heartless from invading and taking over.

New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe

Super Mario Bros U was one of the top games released for the WiiU. Like Mario Kart 8, the game has got the Deluxe treatment and will soon be making its way to the popular Switch console. Choose to play as Mario, Luigi or Toad, or as Nabbit and Toadette, who also feature in the game. The ‘New Super Luigi U’ WiiU game expansion comes included in the Switch’s deluxe version.

    Animal Crossing Switch

After the wait became almost unbearable, Nintendo nonchalantly confirmed Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch during their recent Nintendo Direct. Whilst not much information about game content is known yet, the game is set to be released in 2019.

Whilst we await more information about the game, here’s a meme to entertain you:

    Yoshi’s Crafted World

Yoshi’s Crafted World (formerly known by it’s working title of ‘Yoshi’) is an upcoming side-scrolling platform game for Nintendo Switch. It was announced at E3 2017, and is set to be released in Spring 2019. Like prior Yoshi games, players can use Yoshi’s tongue to eat enemies or other objects, turn them into eggs, or throw them outwardly into the level. The game features 3D characters on a 2D plane and allows players to view the game from two opposing viewpoints.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is an upcoming platform-adventure Metroidvania game. It is being developed by Moon Studios, published by Microsoft (for Windows and Xbox One), and will hopefully be released at some point in 2019. The game is a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2015 game Ori and the Blind Forest. The story is based on a new adventure where Ori seeks to discover the world beyond the forest of Nibel, uncover the truths of the lost ones, and unearth his true destiny.

Initially released on Steam back in 2016, Stardew Valley is a Harvest Moon-reminiscent RPG farming simulation with pixel graphics. Developed by ConcernedApe and published by Chucklefish, the game was very well received. It currently holds a 10/10 rating on Steam where it also has ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews.

    Game features include:

    • Raising animals, growing crops and improving your farm
    • Improving skills in 5 different areas (farming, mining, combat, fishing, and foraging)
    • A variety of complex characters, places, enigmas, and secrets to discover
    • Diversity in character customization and dating
    • Over two hours of original music.

Stardew Valley has obtained a 10/10 rating on Steam, received numerous ports for a variety of platforms, and is still a chart topper on the Nintendo Switch eShop. It’s, therefore, safe to say that the game is highly regarded and popular.

The highly anticipated multiplayer update for the PC version of the game was released on 1st August 2018.

    Multiplayer update features include:

    • The ability to play with up to 3 others in online co-op
    • A 3-day travelling festival where farmers can come and go as they please
    • A mysterious new winter event that enables farmers to start a new ‘secret’ collection type
    • Farmers who have made great progress will be given the opportunity to help out a townsperson
    • New character events
    • Changes to the Skull Cavern
    • Ability to change your profession
    • Ability to craft signs
    • New outdoor decorations
    • Introduction of the auto-grabber, an expensive item that automatically harvests milk and wool
    • Introduction of garden pots. Garden pots allow you to grow any crop inside year-round
    • A new crop that only grows indoors
    • Fireplaces and new furniture
    • Ability to put a hat on your horse

The solo developer of Stardew Valley (ConcernedApe) has previously announced that the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch versions of the game will also get a multiplayer update eventually. The developer has confirmed in tweets and updates that the co-op will not be cross-platform. As disappointing as this is for fans to hear, the decision is understandable.

Whilst an exact date hasn’t been given, the game’s publisher (Chucklefish) has recently confirmed that Stardew Valley for Switch will be next to receive the Multiplayer update. Having been submitted for final approval, it is expected that the update will be available either by the end of the year or in early 2019.

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ans of the RollerCoaster Tycoon games (which simulate theme park management), will be pleased to learn that a similar game entitled Parkitect is now available to play on Steam.

Parkitect is a sandbox theme-park construction-management game for Windows, Mac, and Linux. After a two-year early access period, the game was released worldwide yesterday, 29th November 2018.

Developed and published by Texel Raptor, Parkitect shares the premise of RollerCoaster Tycoon games: To build a successful theme park. Players are able to build rides, design and manage the park, and tasked with keeping their guests happy.

Parkitect differentiates from RollerCoaster Tycoon in that it offers players features such as:

    • Staff buildings
    • Resource depots
    • Hidden staff-only areas
    • A branching map system

Parkitect can be purchased on Steam, where it currently holds a 9/10 rating and has very positive reviews, for a modest price of $29.99.

With the abundance of negative reviews expressing disappointment in Atari’s RollerCoaster Tycoon World, could Parkitect be destined for success like the popular 2016 game Planet Coaster?

The publisher of My Time at Portia, Team 17, have released an all-new crafting trailer for the upcoming game.

My Time at Portia is an upcoming sandbox RPG game with farming, crafting, gathering and mining elements. Upon starting the game, players arrive in the charming town of Portia where they seek a fresh start. Upon inheriting your Pa’s run-down workshop, which contains only a Workbench and a Workshop Handbook, the aim is to make your workshop the best around.

Sharing similarities with games such as Yonder and Stardew Valley, the gameplay of My Time at Portia is definitely very crafting-orientated. However, the game also offers players the chance to interact with quirky characters, grow crops and raise animals, and uncover the secrets and mysteries of the post-apocalyptic Portia.

A popular Early Access version is currently available to play on Steam whilst we await the official version and console versions. Whilst an official release date for the game has not yet been announced, the crafting trailer could imply that the wait is almost over!

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]okemon fans are in for a treat with a vibrant upcoming MMORPG entitled Temtem.

The game is currently in development by indie developers Crema, who are also publishing the game. With a Kickstarter for the game only launched on May 29th 2018, the estimated delivery of the finished game is November 2019. However, the developers are aiming to release an alpha version of the game on November 29th 2018 (although they have admitted that this may be delayed until December 2018).

Temtem will be accessible to most gamers due to the variety of platforms it will be released on. These platforms include Steam (Windows), Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4. The game will be launched on Steam, Xbox One and PS4 at the same time. Alpha and Early Access versions of the game will only happen on Steam

Temtem, which is heavily inspired by pokemon, takes place in the aesthetic Airborne Archipelago and is described by Crema as “a massively multiplayer creature-collection adventure”. Alongside your Temtem squad, you can catch and collect Temtems, battle rival tamers, customize your house, join in on a friend’s adventure and explore a dynamic online world.

    • Story Campaign: Journey across six vivid islands and embark on the adventure of becoming a Temtem tamer while fighting against the evil Clan Belsoto.

    • Co-Op Adventure: You will be able to join forces with a friend any time and work together towards your next goal. Catch new Temtem, complete a Route, or face off against a Temtem Leader; all while fighting alongside your friend in dual battles!
    • Housing: Buy your own house at Atoll Row and decorate it your way. Buy new furniture, color your walls and you’ll be ready to invite your friends over!
    • Customize: Customize your character to stand out from the crowd and get new cosmetics while you battle other tamers. Pick a silly hat, a comfy sweatshirt, some pants and you’re ready to go! Or maybe you prefer to wear a full-on cosplay of your favorite Temtem?
    • Competitive: Start by choosing 10 Temtem and the pick and ban phase will begin. Take turns with your rival to pick your Temtem and ban theirs. When all the decisions are made and the turns are ended, you will end up with a squad of 4 Temtem and the battle will begin.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]n adorable indie action-adventure game is coming to Xbox and Steam very soon. The game, which is entitled TUNIC, is highly anticipated by both Xbox owners and PC gamers alike. The game was incredibly well received at Microsoft’s E3 presser earlier this year and has received numerous compliments on its alluring graphics, leading many to believe that TUNIC has the potential to become one of the best indie games out there.

    About:

TUNIC is an upcoming cute indie action-adventure game that is expected to be released exclusively for Windows and Mac through Steam, and for Xbox One.

TUNIC has impressively been developed by just one man, Andrew Shouldice, who decided to quit his job at Silverback Productions to produce content of his own. In past interviews, Shouldice has said the following about TUNIC‘s influences:

Tunic is inspired by lots of games, but at the forefront is the sense of discovery that we experienced when playing games as kids. That feeling of being in place that’s new, a bit scary, and bigger than you! We often ask players what games Tunic reminds them of, if you feel like it’s in there, it was probably an inspiration.

The game will be published by Finji, who also published the popular game Night In The Woods. A price and release date for the game have not yet been announced.

TUNIC takes place from an isometric perspective. With a distinct attractive art style, TUNIC has frequently been compared to games such as Zelda.

Originally entitled Secret Legend, TUNIC is an action adventure game focusing on the journey of a small yet heroic fox in a big world. Players can explore rugged landscapes, discover eerie ruins, and combat terrible creatures.

    Features:

    • world made of cute, blocky items
    • Discover monstrous dungeons
    • Stumble upon spooky ruins
    • Explore puzzle-filled lands
    • Experience a variety of wild landscapes
    • Uncover the game’s hidden secrets
    • Fight terrible creatures from long ago
    • Smart controls

TUNIC has undeniably been visually and mechanically influenced by Zelda games. However, it is also quite relaxed with a primary focus on exploration. Therefore success seems likely due to its seemingly family-friendly nature and its appeal to a variety of gamers.
