Trüberbrook, a mystery adventure game, is set in rural Germany in the late 1960s. Play as an American physicist, Hans Tannhauser, and discover why your dissertation on quantum physics notes have been stolen! Trüberbrook was released for PC on March 12th, 2019 and now you can buy the game today, as of April 17th, 2019 on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

Hans Tannhauser happens to win a trip to the tranquil village of Trüberbrook. This place is an old but beautiful health resort somewhere in the densely forested countryside of West Germany. He decides to go in order to work quietly on his PhD thesis. But, something in the town seems odd and now you’re suddenly thrown into a puzzling sci-fi mystery!

While investigating the case of your stolen notes, you run into quirky villagers, travelers, and spa guests. They will give you tasks as you begin to wonder whether you’re truly in Trüberbrook by chance.

    The Visual Style

Something rather noteworthy about this game is its unique visual style; the whole scenery and all backdrops were built as real miniature scale models. They were then captured with a 3D scanner, digitally polished and blended with animated characters, visual effects, and set extensions. See more information about it below.

All the locations were designed in advance and built by hand in the workshop. For several months, set designers worked on the dollhouse-like miniature models. These were then individually staged and filmed. Among other things, we use small lamps and many colorful foils to simulate different hours of the day, different seasons and weather conditions. We then use a process called photogrammetry to digitize the models.

    The Team

Trüberbrook is develeoped by “btf GmbH”, published by “Headup”, and co-funded by the “Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg”. The game is made up of quite an extensive team of talented individuals. See below on what inspired them to create this mystery thriller.

Mood and atmosphere of the game are inspired by TV series like Twin Peaks, The X-Files, and Stranger Things. The game mixes German folklore with a gripping sci-fi storyline, covering universal themes like love, friendship, loyalty, rootlessness, self-discovery and monster hunting.

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]rofessor Layton And The Curious Village was initially released by Level-5 for Nintendo DS in Japan in 2007. Fast forward to 11 years later, and Layton fans can play a remastered HD version of the enigmatic game on either iOS or Android.

The game features the gentlemanly Professor Hershel Layton, a puzzle-loving archaeologist, and his young assistant Luke Triton, an easily nettled boy with a huge appetite and an ability to talk to animals.

The first game has the duo searching on behalf of a wealthy widow for an elusive artefact supposedly hidden by her late husband, the Baron. Whoever finds the artefact will inherit the Baron’s immense wealth.

With a beautiful animation style synonymous of Level-5, captivating music and plenty of suspense and emotion, the game remains entertaining despite its age, hence why a remake was made.

The trailer for the polished puzzle game can be watched below.

Professor Layton fans rejoice! Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy is making its way to Switch.

Many fans of the Professor Layton series have been ‘puzzling’ over whether the popular franchise would be excluded from the Switch. But recently, Level 5 announced that last year’s popular puzzle game Layton’s Mystery Journey will also be released on Nintendo Switch.

The game is set to be released in Japan on August 9th.

Whilst there is no confirmation of a release for the West, it’s likely there will be one, and that it will be soon. Layton’s Mystery Journey was released for 3DS in Japan on July 20th 2017.  Shortly after, on the October 6th 2017, the game was released worldwide.

    About

The notorious Professor Layton is absent in this game. Layton’s Mystery Journey stars the Professor’s previously unmentioned daughter Katrielle as the Protagonist. Katrielle has undoubtedly inherited her father’s intelligence, but sometimes has people dubious due to her ‘gut feelings’. She is also a little more outspoken and disorganised than her gentlemanly father.

The Professor has been missing for quite some time, and Katrielle is starting to become worried. Nevertheless, she decides continue her father’s legacy and sets up the Layton Detective Agency. Alongside her talking dog (Sherl), her infatuated assistant (Ernest Greeves), and her rival (Emiliana Perfetti) she tackles various difficult cases presented to her by fellow Londoners. The mysteries are often odd, with unexpected culprits, which makes the game unpredictable and interesting.

The game is similar to previous games in the series due to the ability to find and solve puzzles, explore surroundings, collect items, and play minigames. It differs in that instead of having one main storyline with chapters, the game is split into 12 different cases with an overarching theme. Despite scoring slightly lower on Metacritic than other Layton games, the game still holds a respectable rating of 72/100. Having played the 3DS version myself, I would definitely recommend it to Layton fans, Puzzle game fans and Level-5 fans.

You can read more about the game here.
