Color the world your own way in Drawdog!

From the creator of the indie smash-hit “Wandersong”, Greg Lobanov, comes an RPG like we’ve never seen before. In Drawdog [working title], you play a doggo on a mission to bring color and art back into the world using only a giant paintbrush. Lobanov’s previous title, Wandersong, received a loving reception and created quite a buzz for it’s beautiful play-style and unique take on an art game. It appears that Drawdog will attempt to do the same, only this time for color instead of sound.

    What we know so far…

This game will surely tickle the fancy of not only all canine fanatics, but also capture the heart of any and all art enthusiasts. However, in this title, it is not so much about perfection as it is expression and invigoration. Your primary goal is to breathe life into your surroundings by adding color, which will inherently alter the moods of the characters that inhabit the land.

Your interactions with your environment will be your means by which you achieve progression, i.e. adding colors to items and objects to make them act in a certain way. You will use paint to solve puzzles and help your fellow townsfolk to change their surroundings to their liking. Each character along the way has it’s own unique and quirky additions to the story. This game is still in development, and has not recevied release date, nor has it been determined exactly what platforms the title will be released on.

    A little gameplay GIF…

For more information on Drawdogs, follow them on Twitter! For more information about Lobanov’s previous title, Wandersong, check out our tidbit from myPotatoGames!

    A title to pry for…

Given the excitement that we’ve seen over the currently-in-development title “Sunvale“, the myPotatoGames team has once again reached out to steal the priceless time of a developer, with the sole purpose of learning everything we can and sharing it with fans!

Martin Klocker, developer of Sunvale, has agreed to answer a few questions from the crew, and our followers, to aid in our grief of not having a thing as soon as we know about it (aka having to wait). While this game certainly appears to be worth waiting for, we couldn’t help but at least try to get a taste of what’s in store with this colorful title.

    Q&A with Martin Klocker

Q: What would you say are some key features that help Sunvale stand out above other titles in the farming SIM genre?

A: Sunvale is all about freedom, I’ve always liked the sandbox aspect of games like Terraria, and hated some of the restrictions that have become the standard for games inspired by harvest moon; some of this restrictions would be days and seasons, I’ve never liked the fact that you have to stop doing what you are doing to go back home, sleep and go back to what you were doing, same with seasons, I’ve never liked the fact that you are sometimes obligated to do certain things on certain days (for example, you have to schedule your crops so that you won’t end up loosing them when the season changes).

I’m all for the “do what you want whenever you want” kind of game design; so everything in Sunvale is made from that mentality. Other big differences would be; there’s no combat in Sunvale, there is no marriage in Sunvale and there’s exploration in Sunvale (maps are procedurally generated with biomes).

Q: What sort of things can we expect when it comes to our characters relationship to the NPC’s in the game?

A: As I said in the previous question, there will be no marriage system in Sunvale, instead we have sort of a mix between the friendship system from Animal Crossing and a unique Reputation System. Basically you are “in charge” of your town, if the folks from your town are not happy their services/products will change.. if you build up a bad reputation (I won’t go into details but for example you can lower your reputation by selling rotten food or overcharging when you sell stuff) some NPCs will stop offering their services to you or will stop selling some products to you. I can’t confirm too much more about this side of the game yet, as some ideas are not final.

Q: What is your favorite part about creating such an enormously immersive game like Sunvale?

A: To me the best part of making a game is that it’s basically exactly what you want to play, everything I add to Sunvale is what I would like to see on a game, everything that I don’t add is what I don’t like in games, so in the end I not only feel accomplished for making something that others find cool, but I also get the game that I always wanted to play.

Q: Do you have any ideas as to an approximate release?

A: This is a hard one, right now the only thing I could say is 2020.

Q: Will there be co-op or online multiplayer available?

A: There won’t be multiplayer at first, but I would like to add co-op in some way (either the full game experience or some sort of “Come see my town” mode) in the future.

Q: We noticed that you mentioned having put another project on the backburner to focus your time on Sunvale, any chance we could get a hint as to what that might be like?

A: I’ve canceled 2 projects in the past, both of which were strategy games, I can only show you some pics of this online TCG I worked for a couple months. Just to clarify Sunvale is way past that phase, the game is in no risk of being canceled.

A Reddit user has shared the exciting response he got from Kan Gao, who is the designer, writer, composer, and director of popular game To The Moon.

In the exchange between the user and the developer, the user enthusiastically asks whether there are any plans for the game to come to Nintendo Switch. Although rather cryptic, the developer appears to confirm a Switch release (or at least plans for one) in his reply.

A screen capture of messages exchanged between the Reddit user and game developer Kan Gao

However, it’s important to bear in mind that an official announcement confirming the port has not yet been made.

    About the game:

To The Moon is a Story-Rich indie Adventure game with a plot somewhat reminiscent of popular sci-fi thriller series Black Mirror. Although the game was released for Windows back in 2011, it is still highly regarded. This is evident with ‘overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews on Steam (where the game is often praised for its emotive narrative), and in the fact that the game was also released for MacOS and Linux in 2014, and for Android and iOS in 2017.

    Story: (Contains some spoilers)

To The Moon features two doctors who are capable of giving patients on their deathbeds another chance to live, right from the beginning. The only catch is that the experience is only in the patient’s head, and that they will die once they reach the end of that life.

The game focuses on an elderly patient named Johnny, and the two doctors’ attempt to fulfill his lifelong dream. As they uncover fragments of his past, it becomes as ‘clear as day’ that Johnny only ever had one real wish; To go ‘To The Moon’.

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t’s no secret that pixel-art-stylized games are popular right now (we even recently wrote an article about our favourites). Pixel-art-stylized video game fans will be pleased to hear that there is another game in development. Developer’s Aloft Studios are currently working on a Zelda-inspired game entitled Hazelnut Bastille, which they hope will bring some retro vibes and SNES magic to the Nintendo Switch console.

Hazelnut Bastille is an upcoming Zelda-esque 16-bit JRPG Metroidvania game that has been confirmed for PC, Mac, Linux, and more recently, Nintendo Switch. The game has been compared to Chrono Trigger and Golden Sun. It currently has a tentative mid to late 2020 release window.

Aloft Studios is a small indie game studio who have emphasised that quality is of utmost importance to them.

Additionally, composer Horoki Kikuta (who is known for his work on Secret of Mana) has joined the Hazelnut Bastille team as a celebrity guest composer.

Aloft Studios have given the following information about the game in a previous interview with Nintendo Life:

“The timescale for this release will either be simultaneous with our PC / Mac / Linux release, or following some months after, as funding and development time ultimately allows, but we would very much like to see a release across all four of our starter platforms if it proves possible!”

“Hazelnut Bastille, for PC, Mac, and Linux, and now Nintendo Switch, is a lush, topdown Metroidvania in a 16bit JRPG style, which seeks to continue the great lineage of superior design from the mid 90’s- the moment in time when mainstream 2D titles reached arguably their greatest level of refinement, in titles such as Super Metroid and Link to the Past. We seek to emulate this period in most ways, from graphic presentation to audio production, to general level design philosophy. Hazelnut Bastille tells the story of a young woman who travels to a foreign shore on the outskirts of her world, in order to seek out the promised gifts of mythological ancients, in hopes of retrieving something which was lost to her. On the way, her story becomes irrevocably intertwined with the lives of those living in this far off land.”

Kickstarter for the game launches today (23/10/18).
