The recent Animal Crossing: New Horizons update contains some exciting features. One of which, is the ability to expand your museum and have an art gallery section! Another feature is the return of special NPC Redd, who is an untrustworthy Kitsune, or fox. Redd is essential in order to add an art gallery wing to your museum. Here’s how to unlock the museum’s art gallery and Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler In Animal Crossing: New Horizons. And some tips on how to spot fake artwork too…

    About Redd

Redd has been around since the very conception of the franchise, appearing in Animal Forest (Dōbutsu no Mori) back in 2001. Since then, he has appeared in every single mainline and non-mainline game in the franchise. Redd is notorious for selling counterfeit and overpriced items, deceiving players, and having a passive-aggressive attitude. Therefore, his return in New Horizons may be controversial. But love him or hate him, he’s back, essential for the museum expansion, and is just as sketchy as ever.

How To Unlock The Museum Expansion

    • You’ll firstly need to make sure you’ve downloaded the 23rd April update, and are now on version 1.2.0.
    • After the update, head to the museum and speak with Blathers. He should inform you that he’s contemplating adding an art gallery to the museum. However, you’ll need to bring him a piece of art in order to initiate this expansion.
    • If he doesn’t mention anything about an expansion, an issue I was puzzled by, you likely have not yet donated enough specimens to the museum. (Theories suggest that 30 fossils, fish, or bugs need to have been donated, but this is unconfirmed).
    • Try making a few more donations and speak to Blathers again. This resolved the issue for me.
    • As mentioned, the next step to unlocking the art gallery is locating a piece of art to donate. If you’re wondering where you’re meant to find some art, be patient.

Redd’s Part In Unlocking The Museum’s Art Gallery

    • The following day, Isabelle does a heccin concern will worriedly announce that a suspicious character has been spotted roaming the island. This will be Redd. She will warn you of his dodgy dealings, but reassures residents he hasn’t been known to harm others.
    • Next, you will need to find the fiendish fox. Once you have, you will be able to purchase a random piece of artwork from him.
    • He will initially try and sell it to you for an extorionate price, but both of your dialogue options will make him lower the price.
    • As smooth-talking as ever, he explains that he’ll lower the price as you’re basically family. (I hope not…)
    • It has been assumed that the first piece of artwork you buy from him will always be genuine (mine was). Once you have obtained a piece of art, take it to Blathers at the museum.
    • This will then allow you to expand the museum and have an added art gallery section.
    • The museum will be closed the next day for renovations. The day after that, it will be completed and ready to explore. Like with the completion of most projects in the game, you will be able to host a ceremony, celebrating the museum’s expansion. All of your islanders will be in attendance. Although the attentiveness of certain characters is another question…
After asking Blathers to say a FEW words, Tom Nook falls asleep! Apologize to the waffling, nocturnal, entomophobiac owl immediately you absolute meanie! ?
    • The art gallery section of the expanded museum can be seen below.

    About ‘Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler’

    • After the renovations to expand the museum are complete, Redd will again visit your island.
    • Redd will possibly have hinted to you in his previous visit that he’s recently obtained a trawler. (you can almost see the dodgy dealing cogs whirring in his brain).
    • Sure enough, if you locate him a second time on your island (after the museum has been expanded), he will divulge his intentions.
    • He will invite you to his trawler, which is located on the secret beach to the north of your island. Here, you will be able to buy furniture and fake and genuine artwork.
    • Whilst the Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler is most definitely sketchy, you should go ahead and visit after the invitation anyway.
    • Upon entering, he will explain that you can buy as much of the furniture he has on offer as you like. However, you will only be able to buy one piece of artwork from him each time he visits.
    • He will visit randomly like other merchants such as Kicks and Leif, but will always be docked at the secret beach.
    • The music that plays in his trawler and the flag logo on his ship are reminiscent from my Wild World gameplay. His trawler is also very dimly lit. So the sketchy vibe is as pertinent as ever, and will be uneasily nostalgic for many players.

    How To Spot Fake Art

    • Just like in previous games, Redd will sell fake art as well as genuine pieces.
    • Blathers will not accept fake art, and forged pieces won’t sell for much at Nook’s Cranny either. Therefore be sure that you are buying genuine art when visiting his ‘Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler’.
    • A handy feature when browsing the art Redd has on offer is the ability to zoom in on the piece. This works much like the camera app on your NookPhone.
(This one is a fake. There are a couple of people missing from the middle left part of the painting)
    • If you’re like me, and have no clue on how to spot fakes, then you’re in luck. A Reddit guide has already been compiled to help people distinguish between fake art and genuine art.
    Anger at uncovering a fake
    • This Reddit guide will show you the subtle differences between fake and genuine artwork. And with the nifty zoom option, you can be sure to always buy solely legit pieces of art from your so-called ‘cuz’.
    • Some pieces of art, such as the Perfect Painting and Warm Painting will always be legitimate. The aforementioned ‘Redd’-it guide also handily informs you of the names of the artwork that will never be forgeries.

    I’ll let myself out.

Leif is a sloth special NPC with a passion for gardening. First introduced to the franchise in New Leaf, the latest update sees the return of the happy chappy. With Nature Day Nook Miles+ rewards introduced and the return of the smiley sloth, New Horizons has suddenly become more exciting. Here’s everything currently known about Nature Day & Leif in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

    Who Is Leif?

First appearing as the owner of the Garden Center in New Leaf, Leif’s name is therefore a pun. In New Leaf, Leif would sell flowers, saplings, fertilizer and gardening tools. Additionally, Leif offered a weed-pulling service, and also hosted Weeding Day. By participating in Weeding Day, players could receive furniture items from the flower set.

Leif made a reappearance in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp where he hosted the ‘Leif’s Spring Flowers Event’. The creatures of the event are ladybugs, and the flowers are called ‘ Sleeping Beauties’ and ‘White Clovers’.

What Is His Role In New Horizons?

After updating your game, Leif will appear from time to time in the Plaza. Like Kicks, he is a travelling merchant and has his own stall (‘Leif’s Garden Shop’). Whilst visiting, he will sell flower seeds that you may have been struggling to obtain. Even more excitingly, he will offer a selection of shrubs for players to buy. Additionally, when visiting, he will buy weeds from you for double the amount Timmy and Tommy do.

What To Do If He Doesn’t Show Up?

If you’re not seeing Leif, it’s likely that you have not yet downloaded the 23/4 update. You can check whether your game is up to date by selecting the game’s icon on your home menu, and pressing the + button. You will then be informed whether a software update is available, and will be given the option to select this (providing you have an internet connection).

About Nature Day In New Horizons

Nature Day begins as soon as you complete the update on the 23/4 in New Horizons. To celebrate this, Tom Nook will inform you of a special promotion for Nook Miles+ members for a limited time. The promotion will last from 23rd April – 4th May. For participating in limited-time Nature Day activities, such as planting shrub starts, you will receive Nook Miles. You’ll receive five times the amount of Nook Miles for completing a Nature Day Nook Miles+ task as opposed to an ordinary one. Therefore instead of receiving 200 Nook Miles, you will receive 1,000 Nook Miles for completing the nature-based tasks.

Whilst you probably want neither of these insects on your island, catching them is essential in order to complete your critterpedia. So, albeit being some of the more gross insects, here’s a guide on how to catch ants and flies in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

    How To Catch An Ant

In order for ants to appear on your island. you will need some spoiled turnips lying around. You will need to purchase 10 turnips from Daisy-Mae on a Sunday and then wait at least a week for them to rot. Once they have, it’s simply a matter of placing them down and walking away. If a trail of ants don’t appear next to them, try entering a building and leaving, in order to spawn them. Then, simply take out your net and capture the ants on the spoiled turnips(s).

    How To Catch A Fly

To catch a fly, you’ll need to have caught some trash whilst fishing. Items considered trash include, old tyres, cans, and boots. If you leave one of these lying around on your island, it may attract a fly. Leaving multiple ‘trash’ items in the same area increases the likelihood of you attracting flies. If you spot one, swat one (with a net)!

Once you’ve caught these pests, you can get rid of the items that attract them and have a nice clean island once again. Blathers will thank you. Not for the insect donations, obviously, but for lessening the insects that spawn on your island. 🙂

These Animal Crossing New Horizons Themed Isabelle Joy-Con grips are the absolute cutest!

Animal Crossing New Horizons is here, and it’s everything we ever wanted it to be. My island is growing so fast, I can hardly keep up with who lives where! It is pretty much the greatest game ever, and that gives cause to celebrate.

One great way to celebrate this amazing game would be to decorate your Nintendo Switch console with an accessory that is just as adorable as the game itself. Weren’t able to get an ACNH themed Switch? Did get an ACNH themed Switch and now wonder what it would like if it were even cuter?

    Animal Crossing Thumbstick grips

These Isabelle themed Joy-Con grips are the perfect little addition to beautify any Nintendo Switch console! The grips feature a close-up of the face of that delightful little shitzu, and are available right here while supplies last.

Each order comes beautifully packaged with two Isabelle Joy-Con grips.

There are some tips and tricks in the game that Nintendo don’t exactly tell you about. However, there also some lesser known cool little ‘secrets’ in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

Popping balloons with a bug net

Providing you have a ladder and bug net at the right place and time, you can actually pop balloons with a bug net. simply ascend a cliff to a higher level and whack the balloon present with a net as it flies past. This isn’t particularly useful, as a slingshot is much easier, but is cool nonetheless.

Scaring off wasps with party popppers

If you have a party popper on you whilst shaking a tree containing a wasp nest, you don’t have to try amd catch them, or run for shelter. Instead, you can scare them off with a party popper. Party poppers can be purchased at Nook’s Cranny for 100 bells a ‘pop’.

Eat Turnips to fill up your fruit meter faster

As turnips are in bundles of ten, if you eat one (10) from your pockets, it will fill up your fruit meter and make moving trees much faster.

    Residents can play musical instruments

Residents can play (certain) instruments placed around the island. (The ones that you can simply walk up to and press A to play notes).

Residents can play specific songs on instruments

If you catch a resident playing an instrument, place a stereo/music player, select a song, and the resident will play along to that song.

Boundary breaking in the aiport allows the players to interact with Wilbur

For those that are into boundary breaking and no-clipping (and those that aren’t), this is pretty cool. If you visit another players island and boundary break past the airport gate, you will find Wilbur and can talk to him. If you do this on your own island, he will still be there, but there will be empty dialogue upon interacting with him.

A *spoiler alert* for obvious reasons, but we all probably know that cool stuff happens on your birthday in Animal Crossing games. But New Horizons takes the cool factor to the next level. So for those of you who can’t contain your curiosity, here’s what happens on your birthday in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

    A Surprise?

Upon leaving your house on your birthday, you will be greeted by an islander (goodness knows how long they’ve been stood there…). The resident is usually the animal who you have formed the closest friendship with. They will lead you to their home, where they have pulled out all the stops and thrown you a surprise party. There will be two other islanders celebrating as well.

    Make A Wish!

There will be a birthday cake on a table awaiting you. Your player can a ctually blow out the candles, and will close their eyes whilst doing so, as if they are making a wish.

    Birthday Prezzie!

After blowing out the candles, the islander hosting your party will approach you. They have a birthday present for you! This can vary, but you may receive something like birthday candles or a birthday table.

    The Piñata!

Your furry friends have really pulled out all the stops! They’ve got a second surprise for you. You will be presented with a star shaped piñata and a stick to whack it with. By approaching it and rapidly pressing the A button you can smash that thing open.

    The Prize!

After smashing the piñata open, 8 cupcakes will fall out of it (5 second rule am I right?). This is your second gift. After this, the three residents will sing and dance gleefully until you decide to leave the house.

    Share The Love!

If you speak to other islanders afterwards, you can give them a cupcake. In return, they will give you a birthday-themed gift, such as birthday shades. As there aren’t that many birthday-themed items that we know of (as of yet), it may be worth keeping a couple back for yourself. They look cute in your home :3

You may have noticed a rusted communicator part in your recycling bin and wondered if it is just junk. However, rusted communicator parts can be used in the game. Here’s some info on the purpose of and how to acquire rusted communicator parts in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

    What Are They Used For?

Rusted communicator parts are essential materials in order to craft the Robot Hero Nook Miles recipe. If you have the Robot Hero recipe, and 30 rusted parts as well as:

    • 90 Iron Nuggets
    • 10 Gold Nuggets
    • 1 Gold Armor
    • 1 Rocket

The Robot Hero item is yours!

    How Can They Be Obtained?

Gulliver often can be found unconscious on your beach. Upon waking him, he needs to contact his crew with his ‘handy dandy’ device and be rescued. (Even though he’s a seagull?). However, it turns out his device is not as handy or dandy as he thought. He will request your help in searching for five (non-rusted) communicator parts on your island’s beaches. They resemble manila clams, spout a small amount of water and can be retrieved by digging them up with a shovel. The days Gulliver wash up are random, but the day after, there will always be a rusted communicator part in the recycling box.

The reason I told you about helping Gulliver? Well time for a not so wholesome method of gaining those rusted communicator parts more quickly. If you agree to help Gulliver, and dig up the five communicator parts he needs to be rescued, but don’t give them to him, eventually, they will turn into rusted communicator parts also.

If the crafting materials for the Robot Hero item still seem a little extreme, but you’d really like one, why not check out sites like Nookazon. Here, you may be able to facilitate a trade with somebody for one. 🙂

How To Stop That Menace Of a Seagull From Washing Up On My Beaches?

Sorry, we can’t answer that one. Fill your beaches with rusted communicator parts? Oh the ‘iron’-y.

    I’ll let myself out.
