[dropcap]R[/dropcap]eleased on 21/02/18, Gleaner heights is a challenging yet charming Harvest Moon and Twin peaks inspired farming simulation game. Evoking a 90’s themed character art style and sharing similarities with SNES and Gameboy versions of Harvest Moon, the game is certainly nostalgic. That being said, it is also current and relevant, allowing players to have dyed hair and to be gay and bisexual.

The game has been likened to Stardew Valley, with many criticising the developer of copying Stardew Valley’s mining and character customisation features. However, the game has been in development since before the publication of Stardew Valley, and the developer claims to have purposely avoided playing Stardew Valley as to not copy from the popular game.

The game includes the elements of traditional farming games such as animal care and husbandry, crop growing, relationships with townsfolk etc.

Additionally, it caters for gamers who like a good mystery with a town full of:

    – Residents living double lives. You can choose to help or sabotage their plottings and betrayals.

    – Spooky happenings. Unravel the town’s supernatural history, from it’s founding, right up to present day.

    – Mysterious powerful creatures that appear to be guarding lost treasures.

    Gleaner Heights Main Features Include:

-Play as a male or female character.
-Over 30 villagers with their own schedules, habits, likes and dislikes.
-Extended farming mechanics with over 40 different crops.
-Animals like chickens and cows, as well as a horse. Extended sub-mechanics include growing mushrooms in a mysterious cave, or breeding silkworms.
-Extended crafting system with lots of recipes, from fences to explosive arrows to cheese makers.
    -Cooking with over 110 recipes.
-Complete town upgrade projects. Have your very own boat and explore the river and waterfall, and even explore underwater with your diving suit!
    -Romantic interests and marriage.
-Day/night cycle, seasons, and weather system.
-Skills, perks and equipment (clothing) with set bonuses.
    -Tool upgrades and mining.
-Fishing! Over 40 fishes populate various water bodies around the town and in underground lakes.
    -Town events and festivals.
    -Main plot with different “endings”.
-Explore and discover hidden areas and dungeons.
-Surprisingly fluid combat for a game of this genre, with players being able to charge ther tool attacks while moving, roll, dash, perform power attacks etc.
    -Multi-language support (in progress).
    -Gamepad/mouse support.

The game’s standard cost is $9.99 (£7.19), but it is currently on sale at $8.99 (£6.47).

Developer and Publisher Lienzo are going to release the stunningly beautiful adventure game Mulaka on Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and Steam (PC and Mac). The game set in the northern territory of Mexico captures the story and indigenous culture of the Tarahumara shaman. Players will explore a beautiful world, while drawing upon the powers of demigods. Furthermore there dozens of puzzles to solve set in the gorgeous environment inspired by the real Sierra Tarahumara locations.

Lienzo has also promised to donate a portion of Mulaka’s earning towards the strengthening of the culture and the preservation of the Tarahumara Sierra. We absolutely love that!

    About Mulaka

Dive into northern Mexico’s breathtaking landscapes with Mulaka, a 3D action-adventure game based on the rich indigenous culture of the Tarahumara. Renowned for their impressive running abilities, embark on the journey of a Sukurúame – a Tarahumara shaman – as you fight back the foulness corrupting the land, while drawing upon the powers of demigods. From solving puzzles in environments inspired by real Sierra Tarahumara locations, to heated hand-to-hand combat with creatures pulled from the region’s mythology, find out why the Tarahumara have earned a reputation for being superhumans.

    The Culture

The Tarahumara was a powerful and dangerous tribe who occupied most of northern Mexico. Contrary to popular belief, they were conflictive and skilled warriors. There’s evidence of them clashing with Apaches, Conchos and other tribes, but never conquered by them. When the Jesuits arrived and started colonizing, they ran into 100 years of bloody conflict before being able to settle. The Tarahumara still live and have adapted to the modern world fairly well. They still have many of their ancient rites, myths and customs, but have mixed the catholic religion with their own. One can meet them face to face every day in the state of Chihuahua, and also see them living in the same prehistoric natural way scattered along the beautiful Sierra.

    The Runners

The Tarahumara have been called super athletes, super humans, and even The Greatest Race the world has never seen . All because of one thing: their running. Harness the renowned athletic talents of the Tarahumara as you engage in fast-paced platforming and hand-to-hand combat. Traverse a 3D world inspired by the legendary, real-life landscapes of northern Mexico, rendered in a vibrant, low-poly visual style.

    The Process

Mulaka was designed hand in hand with renowned anthropologists and Tarahumara leaders to capture the true essence of the culture in the game. We have unearthed old books, crumbling texts and forgotten diaries and gotten the most playable elements, as well as the coolest myths and stories and recorded authentic Tarahumara dialogue. Everything has been done so you can experience the power and adventurous history of this culture. From narration in their indigenous language, to music unique to the region, experience an authentic representation of Tarahumara culture.

    Quests

Draw upon the powers of demigods and battle fearsome creatures pulled from the rich lore of the Tarahumara people. The Sukurúame is the shaman or warlock capable of interacting with the gods above, below and everywhere in between. He is also the most capable of facing mythical creatures like the gigantic Ganoko, the soul-eating Rusíwari or the fire-spitting Sipabuara. Obtain new powerful transformations from the mighty demi-gods throughout your quest and become a true Sukurúame!

Mulaka will be released on Playstation 4 and Steam on February 27th. Nintendo Switch and Xbox One owners will have to wait only a few days longer for the release on March 1st.

If you love open world games, and maybe a bit of farming, exploration, crafting and building you might want to get caught up on the latest of Re:Legend here. There is also Ooblets coming this year that is an open world Pokemon inspired gem!
