Now you’ll have to excuse us for wishing the year away. But following on from the announcement of a certain much awaited Switch game, we decided it would be nice to compile a list of all the games of 2019 that we are very much looking forward to playing.

    Ikenfell

Ikenfell is a JRPG game which utilizes turn-based and timing-based battle mechanics. The game’s publisher is Humble Bundle, and its platforms are PC, Mac and possibly Linux. Humble Bundle are helping to polish the game, market it, and will hopefully add it to Steam in 2019. It was hoped that the game would be released this year, but the developers recently announced the postponing of it until next year. This is because they want to deliver a top-quality, flawless game, and would rather development took a little longer to achieve this, as opposed to rushing the game and compromising its quality.

    Mineko’s Night Market

Mineko’s Night Market is a cute cat-themed upcoming game for PC, Mac and Switch by Meowza games. You play as Mineko, a girl who has just moved to a superstitious island overrun with cats. The aim of the game is to find materials, craft items and sell them at the Night Market. You can befriend villagers, fish, undertake quests, play mini-games, plus more! Whilst it was initially hoped that the game would be released in late 2018, its release has now been pushed back until 2019.

    Kingdom Hearts III

Kingdom Hearts III is an upcoming action RPG game that is being developed and published by Square Enix. The game will initially be released for PS4 and Xbox One. Kingdom Hearts III is set in an array of Disney and Pixar worlds. The game features Sora, a young boy and unknowing heir to a spectacular power. Sora is accompanied by popular Disney characters such as Donald Duck and Goofy who attempt to stop an evil force known as the Heartless from invading and taking over.

New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe

Super Mario Bros U was one of the top games released for the WiiU. Like Mario Kart 8, the game has got the Deluxe treatment and will soon be making its way to the popular Switch console. Choose to play as Mario, Luigi or Toad, or as Nabbit and Toadette, who also feature in the game. The ‘New Super Luigi U’ WiiU game expansion comes included in the Switch’s deluxe version.

    Animal Crossing Switch

After the wait became almost unbearable, Nintendo nonchalantly confirmed Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch during their recent Nintendo Direct. Whilst not much information about game content is known yet, the game is set to be released in 2019.

Whilst we await more information about the game, here’s a meme to entertain you:

    Yoshi’s Crafted World

Yoshi’s Crafted World (formerly known by it’s working title of ‘Yoshi’) is an upcoming side-scrolling platform game for Nintendo Switch. It was announced at E3 2017, and is set to be released in Spring 2019. Like prior Yoshi games, players can use Yoshi’s tongue to eat enemies or other objects, turn them into eggs, or throw them outwardly into the level. The game features 3D characters on a 2D plane and allows players to view the game from two opposing viewpoints.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is an upcoming platform-adventure Metroidvania game. It is being developed by Moon Studios, published by Microsoft (for Windows and Xbox One), and will hopefully be released at some point in 2019. Whilst the majority of these games are admittedly ports from other systems, they will undoubtedly be welcome additions to any Switch owners’ game libraries. The games will also offer people the ability to play critically acclaimed games on an awesome system, and will essentially be a treat for those who have not yet played them.

Here’s our 5 favourite Switch games of May.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – 4th May 2018

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was released today! This means that you won’t have to wait to get your hands on this one. Initially released for the WiiU on Valentine’s Day 2014, this game is a highly anticipated Switch port. The game is a side-scrolling platform game, is the fifth instalment in the main Donkey Kong series, and is the sequel to the 2010 Wii game Donkey Kong Country Returns. Players journey through six different islands with Donkey Kong and his friends in an attempt to defeat the Snowmads. The game is available for purchase here.

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles – 17th May

Yonder is probably the Switch port we’re most excited for this month. Released for PS4 and Windows on July 18th 2017, it’s soon to be available on Switch as well. With ‘Very Positive’ reviews on Steam, the open-world adventure game has been praised for its beautiful graphics and music, and the relaxing nature of the game-play. Whilst players can fish, farm, craft, and explore, the main aim of the game is to befriend and collect magical creatures (known as sprites), in order to banish the ‘Murk’ from the world of Gemea. The game can be pre-ordered for Switch here.

The game will include all previous 3DS and WiiU DLC, as well as new costumes from Breath of the Wild. The game can be pre-prdered for Switch here.

Little Nightmares: Complete Edition – 18th May

Little Nightmares is a stop-motion-esque game, with an environment uncomfortably reminiscent of one’s childhood nightmares. The game is a puzzle-platformer horror adventure game that utilises imagery, empathy, and strange and bizarre encounters (as opposed to overused jump-scares) in order to evoke a sense of horror. With the PC version of the game garnering a score of 81/100, critics praised the game’s atmosphere, graphics and audio.

    Runner3 – May 22nd

A lot of Nintendo Switch owners are dying to get a new Animal Crossing game for their system. Even with the recent release of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, some fans are still wanting more. The reveal of Animal Crossing Switch could be here sooner than you might think. There’s a possibility of getting at least confirmation of Animal Crossing Switch in these next couple months.

    Nintendo Direct

It’s common for Nintendo to have multiple Nintendo Directs throughout the year. Sometimes it’s a direct focused on one game or franchise, and sometimes it’s a direct that could surprise us with anything. Nintendo usually has directs sometime in the spring so there’s a good chance we’ll see a Nintendo Direct between now and May.

    E3 2018

Even though Animal Crossing Switch could be shown off in a Nintendo Direct soon, we think it’s more likely to happen at E3 2018. E3 is the biggest video game event of the year. It’s the perfect place to introduce upcoming games to the fans. Animal Crossing Switch being revealed for the first time at E3 this year seems very possible. This also wouldn’t be the first time an Animal Crossing game was shown at E3. Animal Crossing: City Folk had a trailer at E3 2008 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf was first announced at E3 2010.

    What do you think?

We’re excited for these next couple months and are hopeful that an announcement of Animal Crossing Switch is coming. Do you think we’ll see Animal Crossing Switch in the next Nintendo Direct, or are you expecting to see it at E3 2018? Or maybe sometime after E3? Let us know your thoughts!

For more on Animal Crossing, the second part of the Spring Event in Pocket Camp has now started! And check out these custom Animal Crossing sticker packs too! Also, watch the video below for more Animal Crossing Switch speculation.
