Very few indie games get as much praise and love as Stardew Valley. The farming simulation game has been released on Nintendo Switch a few months ago. Unfortunately the port brought some new bugs with it as well. The publisher has now released an update to address many of those issues.

Chucklefish has promised to reduce the saving / load times in Stardew Valley Switch. With the latest patch the save times have been reduced up to 32%. However the big new feature of this patch undoubtedly is the ability to record a video. This is a feature Nintendo has implemented in a recent firmware update for the hybrid console. Check out the full patch notes below.

    • Players should see a significant improvement on save times! Also, the saving screen is now animated.
    • The new video recording feature is now supported!
    • When a controller connects or disconnects, the Controller Support Applet now appears to ask which controller you want to use to play the game, instead of silently switching to the new controller.
    • The game now detects Simplified / Traditional Chinese environments on first start up and defaults to the Simplified Chinese localisation instead of English.
    • Fixed issue that created the unintended ability to skip saving at night with a well-timed button press.
    • Fixed an issue causing the player character (and sometimes important NPCs) to appear off-screen during certain cutscenes.
    • Fixed a temporary soft lock that occurred when the player pressed A and B together while eating or drinking an item.
    • Fixed a way for players to temporarily lose access to essential tools via the chest interface’s organize button.
    • Fixed the Wizard’s slay monster quest sometimes asking you to kill 0 monsters.
    • Fixed a crash that sometimes occurred while sleeping (before saving) if any essential tools were not in your inventory at the time.
    • Fixed the wrong tooltips sometimes appearing on the bundle interface in the Community Center area.
    • Fixed the inability of players to drop items without deleting them when using the cursor mode that snaps to UI elements.
    • Morning music is no longer looped endlessly, and now fades out during the day as it should.
    • Fixed a crash that occurred when opening the journal with no quests.
    • Fixed occasional inability to select certain items in the crafting menu.
    • Fixed a crash that occurred when pressing the ‘-‘ button when playing a minigame at the Saloon.
    • Fixed button controls for the Prairie King minigame shooting in the wrong direction.
    • Fixed occasional left channel audio crackling
    • Fixed lack of vibration in handheld mode

Spellbound (the working title of the game) is a game currently being developed by Chucklefish, the publishers of Stardew Valley. Being described as ‘Stardew Valley meets Harry Potter’, the informally announced game is an RPG sim set in a magic school.

Going on images that can be found on the internet, the characters with pointy hats make the game look very much like a pixel art version of Little Witch Academia.

CEO and lead designer of the game, Finn Brice has said in an interview with PC Gamer that “There are many different kinds of magic/crafting/potion making/farming systems in this game and each of those needs to be rewarding and satisfying in their own right. Expect to have a lot to do in the final game, but to progress regardless of the activity.”

Designer Rosia Ball says that that game aims to capture the nostalgia of school life. “A school operates very differently to a town. We’re working hard to include what we think are the essential elements of a school simulation while remaining within a familiar format that existing fans of the genre will be able to jump straight into.”

Spellbound will allow players to have relationships with other characters in the game. However, Chucklefish have said in an interview that Spellbound will have teen awkwardness and is more true to real-life High School experiences. “Where other games are inviting you to live out your perfect fantasy, in that you can date whoever you want, you can get married to whoever you want and it’s up to you, Spellbound is a little less forgiving. Dates can go wrong, things can go wrong, it’s more about that school experience. You might get a few hard knocks.”

However, fret not. As the game is inspired by Harvest Moon, JK Rowling, Studio Ghibli and other young adult literature and fantasy, you don’t have to worry about your love-life being too non-existent. “Ultimately you’re not going to have a horrific time, and it’s going to work out in the end—and you’re a wizard right? It can only go so badly!”

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he CEO of Chucklefish, and publisher of Stardew Valley just announced a major new patch is coming to Stardew Valley. The new update will bring some long awaited bug fixes to Switch users, as well as some new features. One of the most requested fixes from fans was in regards to the very slow saving times. The CEO detailed the patch on Twitter ” The SDV Switch patch has been submitted to Nintendo. Faster saving, crash on sleep fixes, fixed prairie king controls, fixed static sound from left speaker, fixed some UI issues, video recording and more.

At the same time the creator of Stardew Valley, Eric stated that the multiplayer mode is coming along very well. ” Testing multiplayer… it’s coming along great! @tccoxon is doing fantastic work. I’m really excited, this is already really fun and it’s only going to get better before release. Check out my log cabin “. The long awaited multiplayer mode is expected to be released as a beta version by the end of this year. Stardew Valleys developer ConcernedApe, has recently held a Q&A session on reddit. The developer has answered many of the fans questions. A lot of Stardew Valley players are requesting a physical release of the game. ConcernedApe pointed out that it is indeed currently being considered. If you are one of the people who would like a Stardew Valley Switch Cartridge, we recommend making your voice heard to Chucklefish. Furthermore ConcernedApe pointed out that the long save waiting times will probably not get fixed. Some players complained that saving the game at the end of a day may take up to 25 seconds, the developers said that ” I (ConcernedApe) take responsibility for that, since I coded the original save system “.

He also replied to the question if there will be a sequel to Stardew Valley or just more content updates ” You can certainly expect more games from me, but I haven’t made any plans yet as to whether there will be a Stardew Valley sequel or more content “. As for the multiplayer Eric (ConcernedApe) stated that ” No date yet. It is intended to work almost exactly like single player, but with up to four players simultaneously playing in the same world on the same farm”. [dropcap]W[/dropcap]e have recently reached out to the CEO of Chucklefish, publisher behind Stardew Valley. Many fans of the game are hoping for a physical cartridge release for the Nintendo Switch. The publisher has stated that ” We will try to do a physical switch version of Stardew later if the opportunity arises “. This means that a boxed version of the game will not be available at launch, but may be a possibility later on. Furthermore the CEO explained that ” Multiplayer ( on Nintendo Switch ) won’t be part of the initial release, but will be an update later. “. Multiplayer is one of the most awaited updates since the launch of Stardew Valley. The Co-op update will allow players to share a farm, and work together.

Stardew Valley Switch is currently in testing, and according to the publisher, fans wont have to wait too much longer. Below is the full explanation on what is currently holding back the farming simulator to be released on the Nintendo eShop.

Realistically we’re trying to get it to everyone as soon as we can, there are a few things involved in that process. First the game has to pass through lot check, a process that is out of our hands and essentially takes as long as it takes. Second, we have to ensure we get a release slot agreement from all parties involved.

There are two ways to do this. The normal way is to decide on the release slot first, way in advance (ideally a date you won’t possibly miss, so you can ensure it happens.) Of course once you’re done with bug fixing, lot check, updates, etc etc you pretty much have to stick to that date, even if you finish early. That could just result in the game sitting unreleased whilst completely checked and finished for some time.

The other way is to get all that stuff done first, then announce the next available release window. To ensure we get it out as quickly as is feasible. We opted for that option, and in the mean time I’m sharing all the info I get and am allowed to share.

So far lotcheck is looking really good, nothing has come up that needs fixing. Does that mean it absolutely won’t? No, because otherwise we’d be picking a release window already. But it’s a very good sign and that’s all I was trying to convey to people, as part of my promise to keep everyone up to date.

In terms of release window, there are so many people involved in that decision that I couldn’t really say. As soon as I have that information though, you guys will know.

Apologies for lack of response yesterday, it was my Birthday, I was busy celebrating. I hope this answers the question. If you have any others I’ll continue to share any information I have.
