The developer of Orange Island recently announced a collaboration with famous composer Solo Oka.

Also PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch

For those that may have missed it, Orange Island is a super cute indie game currently in the works by developer Ted Sterchi, and the team at Birthday Boy. It is a 2D platform game in the style of classic SNES games. So much in the style, in fact, that it is being ported to the Super Nintendo. Pretty awesome, right.

Well, if that isn’t cool enough, I just found out from a recent Tweet that the games soundtrack is getting more and more in-depth. The soundtrack already features work from Hiroki Kikuta, who has worked on such games as Soul Caliber V and Tangledeep. Now, Ted has revealed in a recent Tweet that Soyo Oka will be joining the Birthday Boy team and adding some original compositions to the game.

    Soyo Oka

For those that don’t know, Soyo Oka is renowned for her work on such classic games as SimsCity (SNES), Pilot Wings and Super Mario Kart. Her presence on Orange Island is sure to bring a real original Nintendo feel to the game. One that is sure to etch this throwback title into the history books.

Ted Sterchi, creator of Orange Island, just announced that his game will be ported to the NES console!

Great news for all of us Orange Island followers and supporters! The kickstarter campaign for Orange Island has been extremely successful. This comes as no surprise considering it’s possibly the cutest throwback title currently in production. We had jumped the gun in our previous article here, mentioning that the game would be coming to NES, although it wasn’t a sure thing at the time.

Only now is it actually set in stone that this game will be releasing for the classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)! It also appears that Orange Island has reached its goal for a port to the Nintendo Switch, so it is quite possible that it will be available on that console as well. In case you missed it, be sure to click the link for the article above to check out our coverage of Orange Island. It is an adorable 2D platform game that has been described by the developer as “a slightly obtuse old-school game that’s balanced to be friendlier to modern gamers”.

For up to date information on Orange Island, you can follow Ted Sterchi on Twitter by clicking here. Orange Island is an extra-pretty throwback that you won’t want to miss.

The myPotatoGames family certainly can’t get enough of games that take place on islands. The paradise life is the life for us! Give us palm trees, gnar waves, and as much adventure as you can throw at us. Orange Island has all that paradise goodness, plus a whole lot more. With a level of depth that you can feel through the classic style music and soothing graphics, this NES-esque game breathes new life into a classic genre that has since been missed.

    A bit about Orange Island…

To touch a bit on just how much this beautiful new title sticks to the ways of the old, its initial release will not only be on PC and Mac, but will have a physical version for the NES! That speaks to a level of commitment that is seldom found these days! As mentioned before, the game takes place on an island, one that is inhabited by slimy baddies that do not wish you well. You have the choice to play as five different characters, each with their own unique abilities and stats. This turns the overall 6+ hours of gameplay into something more along the lines of 30+!

We can already tell that Orange Island includes a rich story told from the heart. A personal tale that we will get to experience in a classic way. This game will hold true to many aspects of the classic gaming experience, including a pastel colored pixel style and 2D side-scrolling gameplay. You will learn to use magical powers to aid you in bringing peace to the lands, and if that is isn’t a classic tale, I don’t know what is. However, Orange Island will have many unique twists that help it soar above and beyond its predecessors.
