This years first all digital E3 event has wrapped up and plenty of games for the coming year have been revealed. One of the last gaming companies to present was Nintendo.
During todays Nintendo Direct many fans were hoping for some Animal Crossing New Horizons announcements for the rumored DLC addition. However, Nintendo decided to completely ignore the existence of Animal Crossing and instead revealed a first look at Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 among other announcements.
Not only did the big N reveal a release window for the game but they also shared a first look at some gameplay for the sequel.
The sequel features similar but enhanced visuals as the prequel and all new puzzles, powers, weapons and enemies. Take a look at the first gameplay trailer below.
While Nintendo did not specify an exact date, it was revealed that Zelda Breath of the Wild will release in 2022. For information will be shared closer to the release date.
Breath of the Wild 2 is the sequel to the extremely popular Nintendo Switch launch title back in 2017 and could now be much closer to release than one might have thought.
The next open world game in the Zelda franchise has been announced more than a year ago back on June 11th, 2019. Since then Nintendo has been very quiet around the game with very little to no information shared with fans so far.
There have been many speculations and reports around a surprise release of the game. With PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X releasing this Holiday, Nintendo is in a position where they need to assure gaming fans that the hybrid console will remain relevant during the holiday season and beyond.
Since the release of Animal Crossing New Horizons the first party Switch gaming lineup looks very skim and a Breath of the Wild 2 surprise release in time for this years holiday season could combat that and give Switch fans something to look forward to.
According to Spanish voice actors Marc Navarro and Nerea Alfonso who both worked on the game and voiced Revali and Zelda, we may have a hint at the status of the game.
According to the “Un café con Nintendo” podcast the two voice actors nearly revealed a story detail about the upcoming game but quickly backtracked as clearly they are currently under a Nintendo embargo where they are not legally allowed to share any details about the game.
A statement translated by Risu64 mentions: “There’s a lot of weird stuff surrounding Zelda in the first game, and also in the second game, which we haven’t worked on [laughs]”. Based on what was said, it sounds like they’ve provided voice work and are tiptoeing around their NDA.
The interesting part is that voice acting is usually done towards the end of a development cycle of a game. This could indicate that voice acting has already been completed making way for a possible Breath of the Wild 2 release sometime this year or early next year.
Of course this to be taken with a grain of salt as nothing is official until Nintendo decides to release more information about the game as well as the release date.
Nintendo saved us a most delightful surprise at the end of their Nintendo Direct for E3 2019. They announced that a new Legend of Zelda game is in development and it’s a full sequel to Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch. See below for some awesomely creepy screenshots of the trailer.
What we see in their sneak-peek trailer is Zelda (with short hair) and Link riding down to some caverns beneath Hyrule Castle. It appears that the Malice, a poisonous substance unleashed by Calamity Ganon, is back again and coming from a most sinister source. We see a mummified ancient character awakening with the help of an ethereal green hand. Afterward, we pan out to a rumbling earthquake and Hyrule Castle beginning to rise.
All we can do is speculate for now as to what exactly this new story will be about but it is most definitely in the same open-world with the same beautiful graphics from the first Breath of the Wild game back in 2017. Normally Zelda games don’t get direct sequels but this one in particular is regarded as one of the best games of all time.
We here at myPotatoGames are incredibly excited for this sequel and will continue to keep you updated as we receive more news. For now you can check out our article on Link’s Awakening which also got a new trailer from Nintendo’s Direct.
Zelda Breath of the Wild is still a best selling game on the Nintendo eShop for Switch and Wii U. There will be a total of 10 different pins, and of course it will be a surprise which one you get when you rip open the box.
