QR codes were first introduced in Animal Crossing: New leaf. Since then, plenty of creative people have created and shared awesome designs in the form of QR codes on the internet. Therefore many Animal Crossing fans will be pleased to know that this feature is also in New Horizons. Here’s how to scan QR codes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
What Are QR Codes In The Context Of Animal Crossing?
QR codes are a way of sharing custom clothing, art and tile designs with others. Since the release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf in 2012 in Japan (and in 2013 everywhere else), Animal Crossing fans have been sharing cute, cool and impressive designs on the web. Having been nearly 8 years since the release of New Leaf, there are loads of amazing QR codes for players to use in New Horizons.
How To Scan QR Codes
First of all, make sure to install the Switch Online app on your mobile phone and link your Nintendo account.
Before you can start scanning QR codes, you will need to establish a NookLink connection between your Switch console and the Nintendo Online app. In order to do this, press the – button on the title screen of New Horizons, which opens the settings.
Tom Nook will appear and give you options to choose from. You’ll want to select the ‘NookLink Settings.’ option and then choose ‘Yes, Please!’ when asked if you’d like to connect to the internet. After this, you will have a NookLink connection between New Horizons and the Switch Online app.
Now, you will be able to begin scanning QR codes via the Switch Online app. To do this, open the app and select Animal Crossing: New Horizons from the ‘Game-Specific Services’ section
This will open the ‘NookLink’ screen, where you should select ‘Designs’
You will then be given the option to scan a QR code
Once you have scanned the QR code of your desired custom design, it can be downloaded in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
To download it in the game, first, press the ZL button to whip out your NookPhone and select the ‘Custom Designs’ option.
Next, use the R button on your console to where Pro designs are stored. Then move your cursor over a free PRO Pattern slot and press the + button. When asked if you want to connect to the internet and download a custom design made for Nintendo 3DS Games, press download. You will then be told that a PRO custom design was found, and to select a save slot. Press ‘OK!’ to this.
Then, select an empty PRO Pattern slot by pressing A. You will then be asked if you wish to overwite ‘PRO Pattern’. Select ‘Overwrite it’, and the slot will be replaced with your chosen QR code’s design.
To wear your new Pro Design, access the Pro Designs section in the Custom Designs ‘app’ on your NookPhone if you haven’t already. Then simply select your design by hovering over it and pressing the A button and select ‘Wear’.
The ability to use QR codes is a great way for your character to look their very best, even in the early stages of the game.
Below, is a video with 500+ QR codes. As the video is rather fast-paced in order to include that many codes, it may be a good idea to slow down the video’s playback speed.

Last year, Twitter user Paul Hubans posted a tweet showing his grandmother’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf activity log. Paul’s grandmother, Audrey, adored playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf and reportedly played it every day from 12/25/2014 for nearly 4 years, when her 3DS unfortunately broke in 2018. After getting Audrey a new 3DS for Christmas in 2018, Paul noticed something very impressive during a system transfer. Audrey’s activity log showed that she had racked up a staggering 3,580 hours of playtime in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
Paul later posted a heartwarming YouTube video where he introduced his grandmother (mayor Audie), who gave a tour of her town. The wholesome video went viral, and as of today, has nearly 9.5 million views.
Audrey has a place in the hearts of many within the Animal Crossing Community, who even raised funds for her to get an Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch.
One of the top ranking comments on Paul Huban’s YouTube video pleaded for Nintendo to immortalize Audrey by naming a character after her in New Horizons. It seems that Nintendo were equally as impressed as Audrey’s fans and have seemingly a character after her.
New Horizons will feature a new female wolf character named Audie. It could be a coincidence, but it seems unlikely considering the attention garnered by the Animal Crosing superfan gradmother. And with that level of dedication, if anyone deserves to be made into a character, it’s her.

Nintendo just released the first Animal Crossing New Horizons Ad and boy does the game look cute!
The ad released today is only 30 seconds long but reveals some brand new gameplay footage! Not only is it the first new gameplay since September 2019 but it also shows the game running on a Nintendo Switch for the very first time.
Take a look at how adorable Animal Crossing New Horizons looks when played in handheld mode! The feeling of holding your own tiny world in the palm of your hands is just something so special!

Animal Crossing Pocket Camp has been out for some time now and since its official release in November 2018 Nintendo released plenty of other mobile games.
Animal Crossing Pocket Camp has been popular among many Animal Crossing fans but often been critized for its lack of actual gameplay. The mobile version of the beloved village simulator captures the cuteness of the animals but turns the relaxing gameplay into more of a “grindy” experience.
Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Content Update
Nintendo frequently updated the game adding new features and listening to players feedback to further improve the game. These efforts have now paid off as Animal Crossing Pocket Camp is Nintendos second most profitable mobile game.
Only this week Nintendo once again released a big update to the game featuring an all new candy shop pastel collection that players around the world can now start collecting!
Pocket Camp on the Rise!
Pocket Camp generated more than 131 million dollars in revenue and is now the second highest grossing Nintendo Mobile game after Fire Emblems that made a whooping 656 million dollars.
Games like Mario Kart Tour, Mario Run and Dr. Mario also made the list with 86m, 76m, and respectively 4.8 million in revenue.

Nintendo might not reveal a lot of new information about Animal Crossing New Horizons at this time but every now and then we do get some new Screenshots. Thanks to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu we received some new images!
The latest set of Animal Crossing New Horizons Screenshots does not really reveal anything we haven’t seen yet nor does it show any new features. One thing however that stood out to me was the UI screenshots of a villager crafting and/or purchasing seeds from Tom Nook.

We have seen Tom Nooks little tent with a crafting bench multiple times. In a matter of fact it was one or the first things Nintendo shared with us. The question is, is this a temporary tent to help the villagers get started on the island and will it transform into a shop later on?
The fact that we see a villager either crafting and/or purchasing seeds from the Tanuki makes me believe that our beloved garden friend Leaf won’t have his own shop in New Horizons! Take a look for yourself below!

Nintendo keeps mentioning that New Horizons features a Getaway package to a deserted island – in a recent article I explored the question on how deserted Animal Crossing New Horizons really is. We have yet to see shops or any sort of buildings that aren’t villager homes – Museums, Shops, Brewster Cafe and more are currently a big question mark.
There may always be the option of island hopping to go shopping – as we have seen in the box art, there appear to be multiple islands! Either way Nintendo will hopefully shed some light into this and reveal some more information in the not so distance future.
Late News is not uncommon for Nintendo!
Keep in mind that an Animal Crossing Direct for Animal Crossing New Leaf was aired just 36 days prior to its release in Japan. It is not uncommon for Nintendo to reveal more information about a game closer to its release date!
So don’t panic – ACNH is not delayed! In a matter of fact Best Buy just announced a pre-order bonus for the game!

It has been three and a half months since the Nintendo Direct featuring Animal Crossing New Horizons!
Tomorrow marks the occasion of only three months until the release of Animal Crossing New Horizons. With Isabelle recently officially taking over the news on Twitter, we can see that the news of ACNH should start flowing at any moment, but when?
If we look into the past just a bit, we can essentially predict the next direct. Animal Crossing New Horizons release was officially announced at the end of 2018’s E3 Conferenc with the infamous delay announced at this years Nintendo E3.
Nintendos Media Recipe
Let’s take a step back and look how Nintendo handled the Pokemon Sword and Shield media coverage. Three months was pretty much the sweet mark when Nintendo decided to flip the Switch and start rolling out Pokemon related news on the daily. There was no way to escape any social media platforms without reading something about Pokemon Sword and Shield – pretty much my dream for Animal Crossing!
Animal Crossing – Magical Three Month Mark Approaching
As mentioned earlier in this article the magical three month mark for Animal Crossing New Horizons will be crossed tomorrow on December 20th, 2020. In anticipation of this – we have seen the big N preparing eagerly to release some new information on the upcoming game.
First Nintendo started an entirely new Twitter account for Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, essentially paving the way for New Horizons. Isabelle announced that she would be handling the official Animal Crossing Twitter and only focus on ACNH news going forward.
With the official Twitter account being silent since then, I expect to see some Animal Crossing New Horizons related tweets and news to appear sooner rather than later.
A few days after Isabelle went quiet on Twitter the first Nintendo Newsletter was sent out reminding fans that Animal Crossing New Horizons still exists and some news are coming our way very soon!
Nintendo Direct In January?
Nintendo has traditionally been very quiet around Christmas and New Years eve. The big N usually releases its major games in Fall and advertises new games and products through December. traditionally the quiet time is followed by a Big Bang with a Nintendo Direct in January!
This has been the case for the past few years and is Nintendos way to show everyone who received a Switch from Santa to be excited for what’s to come next! Perhaps 2020 will follow the same format!
Is Animal Crossing New Leaf January Direct Any Indication?
Animal Crossing New Leaf received its own dedicated Nintendo Direct on January, 24th 2013 and Nintendo didn’t shy back to reveal as much as they could about the game back then.
Animal Crossing New Leaf also received another Direct for the Welcome Amiibo Update just a month before its release – I would not be surprised if we will get plenty of Animal Crossing Directs and Mini Directs ahead of the release as well!
The Conclusion
While these are all speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt, I personally believe strongly in an Animal Crossing New Horizons Direct in January. Nintendo does not want to take the focus away from the recently released Pokemon Sword and Shield as well as the Holiday Business for the Switch Lite and other products and therefore most likely holds back on new announcements until after the Holiday rush is over.
However fans will start to wonder what is next for Nintendo Switch! We don’t really know what Nintendo games are currently in the works that haven’t already released. Pikmin 4 is one of the games we know about its existence… but that’s about it.
There is not much time left to get everyone excited and informed about New Horizons so Nintendo will have to get started early in January to get as much hype build up as they can until Animal Crossing New Horizons releases on Nintendo Switch next year!
