Animal Crossing New Horizons is a little more than a month away and Nintendo shared some details on how save data will work in the game.

The Cloud Save Concern

According to a statement Nintendo made, Animal Crossing New Horizons will not support cloud saves. This feature is especially important when you loose or break your Nintendo Switch in which case your save game would be lost.

There is currently also no way to export your Animal Crossing New Horizons save game from your Switch, which makes it difficult to keep a backup in case something was to happen to your console.

Nintendo Listens to Fans

Fans around the world have voiced their concerns about not being able to create a backup of save files. In a recent press release Nintendo mentioned they are currently looking into creating a feature that will allow save games to be backed up in case you loose or break your Nintendo Switch.

This game does not support Nintendo Switch Online Cloud Saves, but we are currently looking into a customized method for backing save data up that will be specific to this game in the event that your Nintendo Switch is damaged or lost. This function will be limited to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. The timing of implementation is undecided and will be announced as soon as it is finalized.

No Time Travel in Animal Crossing New Horizons?

It is unclear why Nintendo choose to go this road but it appears that the company wants players to enjoy the game as authentic as possible. Only one island is allowed per console and rumors suggested that Nintendo wants to minimize or even eliminate the possibility of Time Travel.

Time travel allows a player to advance faster in the game and enjoy events that are not yet to happen for months for others who don’t chose to alter time. Nintendo also heavily promotes the Animal Crossing New Horizons multiplayer that now allows 8 players to play together.

Bye, Bye Resetti.. You will be missed!

Online play can be a major spoiler for players who don’t choose to time travel and end up on someones island that is months ahead of the actual time. Maybe this is Nintendo trying to discourage players from time traveling – since Resetti is not part of New Horizons either?
