Thirsting for a city builder and management game that doesn’t involve people? Look no further!

United Penguin Kingdom is exactly that. You’re building a settlement for penguins while satisfying their needs. Build homes, decorate the town, assemble entertainment venues, and produce whatever else your penguin settlers may need. You’ll need to fight off killer whales and thieving seals while you do all of that, too.

This is no low-tech village, either. United Penguin Kingdom makes use of different workplaces to grow food, produce materials, and make medicine for its citizens. Plus, energy generators are necessary for running homes, workplaces, and coolers. When they’re not working or chilling at home, your penguin settlers will enjoy spending time at museums, ice skating rinks, game centers, and so much more. Schools are important for your penguins, too, so make sure there are enough seats for them!

Can you grow your humble settlement from a tiny little village to a whole kingdom?

    Release Date

You can find United Penguin Kingdom on Steam. There is no release date available, but you can add it to your Wishlist!

Want more city builders? There’s Gourdlets, a builder with no objectives, just creative freedom. There’s also As Far As The Eye, The Wandering Village, and Dwarrows.

Veil of Dust: A Homestead Game is a farming simulator seeking to turn the genre on its head. Inspired by the likes of Stardew Valley and Don’t Starve, this game is a historically-grounded fantasy homesteading and survival game with a more adult-oriented gameplay. You’ll play as the Callahan siblings, Shane and Áine, as they learn to cope with loss and learn how to survive life in the desert of eastern Oregon.

With a more task-centric focus, and less grinding, Veil of Dust sets you on an adventure to explore magic, intrigue, small town politics, and more. You’ll farm, forage, and hunt to scrape together the resources and food necessary to survive. Overcome challenges with tools you craft, and fill bellies with different recipes you’ve scraped together, as well as forge relationships. Survival isn’t just about finding food and shelter, after all. Life needs to be worth living, too! Experience deep characterizations and explore realistic, relatable scenarios that touch on heavier topics.

Veil of Dust isn’t devoid of humor and fun, though! Guide Shane and Áine as they search for answers as to why mysterious monsters attack their town and livelihoods. While defense wasn’t always a priority, you might need to protect your homestead from them. The homestead you’ve carefully made your very own by lovingly choosing the perfect colors, turning your inhospitable dirt patch into a comfortable home.

Where will your adventure lead you?

    Available Now

You can find Veil of Dust on Steam now!

    Mystical Crops and Mythical Creatures

Another farming game showcased by Freedom Games via IGN Summer of Gaming 2022, was Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire (developed by Digitality Games). Even though there’s a spooky element with the supernatural, the hand-drawn world is adorable and reminiscent of Don’t Starve.

You play as Voltaire, the last-born son of Dracula trying to mend your bloodsucking ways by going vegan. You’ll farm some plots of land and plant some whimsical crops, but there will be mischievous creatures that will try to stop you! As a vampire, you can change forms, use magic abilities and skills to defend your land.

Coming to Early Access in 2023 on PC

You can Wishlist the game on Steam here. It will be coming to The Epic Games Store, however it appears to not have a listing at this time of writing.

Thanks to Nintendo’s live-stream today of Indie World Showcase, we got to see some pretty exciting indie games coming in 2020. My favorite announcement was a new survival game set in the Escapists Universe: The Survivalists, created by Team17. You can play alone or in co-op with up to three friends and explore, build, and craft together! Survive the island, a procedurally generated sandbox world, on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam in 2020.

The best part about The Survivalists is that you can tame monkeys and have them help you with building or fighting off enemies! Managing these adorable monkey employees working for bananas properly will make all the difference in braving the wilderness! Also, look at the little monkeys with their little spears and coconuts. Look at ’em!

    About The Survivalists

The island is alive! Your newfound home will change with day/night cycles as you explore and uncover its secrets. Hunt (or be hunted by!) animals for food and meet the local inhabitants, who aren’t necessarily pleased to see you. Get quests from a Mysterious Stranger or find them washed up on the shore. Prepare to trek into a procedurally generated wilderness, with a variety of biomes, for an adventure that’s unique to every player.

    Build Together, Survive Together

Finding the perils of island life too much or just looking to share your building expertise with friends? The Survivalists has you covered! Complete joint adventures, gain loot, trade and ultimately survive together and as you and up to three fellow castaways explore an island paradise.

    Monkey See, Monkey Do

If you’re in need of a builder, a lumberjack or even a soldier, the monkeys on the island can be tamed and trained to help you with everyday tasks or back you up on raids to a fanatic camp! The Mimic System means a wide variety of functions can be performed by your banana loving friends, with monkey management becoming key to surviving the island’s challenges.

    Get Crafty

The secret to survival is to make the most of the resources around you. Whether that’s piecing together a primitive axe to chop wood or mixing up a refreshing fruit smoothie to keep the hunger at bay, you can discover recipes and expand your options across food, item or structure crafting trees.

    Run the Gauntlet

Looking for an epic sword to hang on your hut wall or want to lay waste to encroaching hostiles? What you seek could be in one of the many temples scattered around the island. However, getting your hands on the loot won’t be easy so any would-be raiders will need to prepare for their treasure hunting crusade.

Wishlist The Survivalists on Steam right here!

As you may know I always love a cute video game and combining this with some survival elements and multiplayer fun, makes for a great experience. Trash Sailors created by two talented indie developers Weronika and Patrick, offers a fun combination of survival, local co-op and cute gameplay, that I just can’t help but get excited for!

In Trash Sailors you will play as a castaway on a tiny raft exploring a flooded world. This concept might seem a little scary, but luckily you can invite a friend to go on this journey with you. The game reminds me a lot of the charm that Don’t Starve has where you also fight for survival while exploring a randomly generated world.

    Explore With A Friend

Together with your co-op partner you can go on an adventure to collect trash from the flooded areas. All the garbage you find floating in the water can then be conveniently recycled into usable materials to repair and extend your raft. Not only does it clean the ocean, but it also helps you make a better raft.

    Trash Sailors

Of course the adventure will not always be easy and you will have to work closely with your friend to take on the many challenges you may face on your journey. In times of a flooded world everyone is fighting for survival so you may have to face some “big octopuses, deadly sharks, cunning penguins, mud alligators, wild tribes, and many more” in order to keep your little boat going.

Randomly Generated Worlds And Enemy Rafts

In the recent newsletter developer Weronika and Petter mentioned that there are currently 8 stages completed and they are aiming to add a whooping 20 stages to the final game. Trash Sailors also makes the use of randomly generated environments, this means that every time you start a new game, you will have a different world to look at and explore.

The developers also shared some first details about how enemy vessels will work in the game. In Trash Sailors natural forces can be unpredictable and brutal, but never forget about the enemies that may approach out of nowhere. Make sure you and your companion are ready at all times to take on any danger.

You can wishlist Trash Sailors right now on Steam, it is slated for a 2020 release. Before you do so, you should take a looksie at the cute Trash Sailors gameplay trailer below!
