[dropcap]T[/dropcap]oday president of Nintendo North America broken the silence on the Animal Crossing franchise. Many fans hoped to see some news about Animal Crossing for smartphones or on Nintendo Switch during the most recent E3 in Los Angeles. However, fans were disappointed as the franchise was a no show at this years games convention.

Luckily Reggie has provided some more details about the highly anticipated mobile game. In the interview he stated that Nintendo still plans to release the game this year, with more information to come very soon. He further explains that the Animal Crossing Mobile game will broaden the franchise, similar to Pokemon Go, Fire Emblem and Mario run on iOS and Android. We expect Animal Crossing Mobile will receive a dedicated Nintendo Direct, in which the big N will provide more details about the gameplay.

So, specifically now, Animal CrossingAnimal Crossing development continues quite strongly, the teams are very excited about what they have. It’s an application that is going to launch this year, as we’ve committed. And we’ll be sharing more information in due course. We believe, just as we’ve seen with Pokémon Go, just as we’ve seen with Super Mario RunFire Emblem Heroes, we believe that the application will help broaden the user base for Animal Crossing, and it’s going to end up having a positive impact on our dedicated video game business of Animal Crossing.

Interestingly Reggie also talked about Snipperclips, a game we very much enjoyed on Nintendo Switch. He said that Nintendo will continue doing smaller, and cute multiplayer games like this adorable paper cutting game. If you want to catch up on Snipperclips we recommend you read our Snipperclips: Cut it Out Together review. You can watch part of the interview with Reggie Fils-Aime below.

“REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–According to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States, the Nintendo Switch system was the best-selling video game hardware in the month of April with more than 280,000 units sold. This is the second month in a row that Nintendo Switch has led the pack in video game hardware sales, following a record-breaking launch in March. April sales of Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems (more than 68,000 units sold) combined to make up almost half of all hardware sales across all dedicated video game systems.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game was the top-selling video game in April with more than 460,000 physical units sold. With digital sales added, the total is more than 550,000 units. Making this number more impressive is the fact that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launched on April 28, which only accounts for two days’ worth of sales in the reporting period, which cut off on April 29.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game for Nintendo Switch continued its legendary run, coming in as the third-highest-selling video game in April. The critically acclaimed open-air adventure will receive even more content with the upcoming launch of two DLC packs in the summer and holiday season of this year. The DLC is now available for pre-purchase via an Expansion Pass. 1-2-Switch and digital-only game Snipperclips – Cut it out, together! also saw strong sales in April.

Nintendo will look to continue this momentum into the summer with a series of great new games for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS. The upcoming lineups for both systems include Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (Nintendo 3DS, May 19), Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers from Capcom (Nintendo Switch, May 26), ARMS (Nintendo Switch, June 16), Ever Oasis (Nintendo 3DS, June 23) and Splatoon 2 (Nintendo Switch, July 21). Nintendo 3DS games Hey! Pikmin and Miitopia both launch on July 28, the same day as New Nintendo 2DS XL, Nintendo’s newest hand-held system.

*Data regarding physical sales of games are from the NPD Group. Data regarding digital downloads of games and combined physical/digital life-to-date numbers are from Nintendo’s internal sales figures. All numbers, unless otherwise stated, are specific to the United States only.”

Snipperclips: Cut it out Together is still a best seller on the Nintendo eShop, even after it’s been available for more than a month. This comes at no surprise, as the game returns to the foundation of what video games intended to be. Snipperclips is a video game that brings joy and laughter to the player, while it makes people get together, play together and well – cut together.

    Let’s start cutting!

A video game meant to be played by everyone

Snipperclips is a couch co-op video game in which you and up to 3 other friends have to cut each other into various shapes to achieve the goal of each level. In many ways Snipperclips is the perfect game to showcase what the Nintendo Switch is all about. Nintendos mission since it’s first console is to bring people together, and that is one of the reasons why the Switch comes with 2 controllers right out of the box. The games easy accessibility makes it a hit for all ages and genders. Without the need of a TV you simply start the game, split up the controller, hand one to your friend, and the fun times begin.

Snipperclips is one of the few games in which you can’t lose, making mistakes is encouraged, and doing so ends up being just as amusing. It is the kind of comedy that makes the game great to play in front of an audience, whether this is in front of your friends or family. We found ourselves bursting out in laughter several times when we saw Snip and Snap, the two characters on the screen, pull a face, or make a weird sound. The cute facial expressions on the characters when you accidentally cut your friend in half, are heartwarming. It is noticeable throughout the entire experience, that the developers have paid a lot of attention to detail in every bit of the game.

    snipperclips

Snipperclips features a whopping 66 physic-based puzzles, 45 of those can be played in single player as well as in co-op mode with your friends. The remaining 21 puzzles are designed to be played with at least 2 and a maximum of 4 players. While you can enjoy the game by yourself, we highly encourage you to share the experience with others if possible.  The game truly shines when played with at least one other person.

As you progress through the levels, you will find that things are getting more sophisticated. The shapes you need to morph yourself into are becoming more challenging, adding another layer of depth to the game. But not to worry, the difficulty increases gradually and at no point you will feel overwhelmed.

    Cut it out Together!

The Multiplayer experience is a reminder of why video games became popular in the first place.

The core of Snipperclips is found within the cooperative gameplay. There are many games that feature multiplayer, in which you play alongside another, but you still feel like you are on your own. This is not the case in Snipperclips, when you decide to team up with a friend – Snipperclips becomes the kind of video game you can not complete without communicating and working together. This might sound terrifying if you consider yourself an anti social hermit, but in reality this is the kind of emotional fun you only experience when playing party group games like charade.

As for playing the game in solo mode, it is absolutely possible and still a lot of fun. You will be able to swap between the two characters, taking on the role of two players by yourself. And for those few hermits we mentioned earlier, there is defiantly a lot of enjoyment to be found when playing Snipperclips alone.

While the games multiplayer is executed perfectly, we can’t help but think that an Online extension of the co-op mode would be another great addition. With the upcoming online service and voice chat app for smartphones from Nintendo, it could be a lot of fun to pair up with strangers over the internet, and somehow find the harmony to collaboratively solve the puzzles together.

    Final Thought

Playing with scissors has never been this fun!

When we completed all the stages, we were left with the feeling of wanting more. We can see ourselves returning and replaying the puzzles, but like most other puzzle games, the first run is the sweetest. There is hope that Nintendo releases a DLC pack for Snipperclips adding more levels to the game. Until then we will pull out our Switch, and puzzle away with friends and family whenever the occasion allows. With the two joy-con controllers and the built in screen, Snipperclips is the perfect game to play whenever and wherever. The adorable look and feel of the game, the easy accessibility, and the variety of the different stages make this game a must play for every Switch owner. Playing with Scissors has never been this fun!

Big thanks go to Nintendo for providing the review copy of Snipperclips: Cut it out Together on Nintendo Switch. The game is available on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $19.99.

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]3 is the annual video games convention in California. For the first time the event will be open to the public. E3 is the second Christmas for every gamer in the world, with dozens of new announcements, gameplay footage and in-depth information about everyones favorite video games. Reggie, president of Nintendo North America has promised “we’re gonna have a big E3 this year”. The company will occupy an equal amount of space compared to Sony and Microsoft at the convention center in Los Angeles this year for the first time. Here are our Nintendo E3 Predictions.

    Pikmin 4

Hey! Pikmin has just ben re-announced for the Nintendo 3DS with a first trailer and some more details. Pikmin 4 is in development for quite some time Miyamoto said, but no details have been given on the video game. It is safe to assume that it will be a Nintendo Switch game, and chances are we will hear more about it at this years Nintendo E3 event.

    Likelihood – Hot ?

    Smash Brothers Switch

Super Smash Brothers on the Nintendo 3DS has sold more than 8 Million copies since it’s release in October 2014, making the game the most popular releases in it’s franchise. Smash Bros would make a perfect fit on the Nintendo Switch with couch co-op as well as online multilayer options. A new Smash Bros on the Nintendo Switch is happening sooner or later, the question will be whether Nintendo is ready to announce the game yet or not.

    Likelihood – Low

    Animal Crossing Switch

Animal Crossing is one of the most beloved franchises on any Nintendo system. With the latest game released in 2012, Nintendo sold more than 10 Million copies and has managed to extend it’s fanbase by millions. It is sure that a new Animal Crossing will come to the Nintendo Switch. Reggie has also been making vague comments, further fueling the rumors. As he states “our philosophy at Nintendo is to have one great experience of each franchise on each console. So, in the future, who knows when – you can anticipate that all our big franchises will be addressed”. The last Animal Crossing release is more than 5 years ago, a new game could be teased at this years E3.

    Likelihood – Medium

    Animal Crossing Mobile

The Animal Crossing Smartphone app has been delayed several times. Now the app is left with no concrete release date. Rumors are emerging that Nintendo delayed the app in order to be able to announce it alongside a new Animal Crossing game on the Nintendo Switch. The developers have stated at the beginning, that the app would tie in with another Animal Crossing game which could be New Leaf, or a whole new experience on the Switch.

    Likelihood – Medium

Zelda Breath of the Wild Expansion Details

The Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass is currently on sale for $19.99 on the Nintendo eShop. While most details like a new difficulty and dungeons have been announced, Nintendo could further detail the pass, and perhaps add some more features to it. While this is a far stretch, Zelda fans can always hope!

    Likelihood – Low

    Metroid Prime

Fans of the series have been waiting for a new main series game a long time. The E3 could make a great opportunity to tease a new Metroid game for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo had announced a spin off game of the beloved Metroid series at the E3 in 2015. Metroid Prime: Federation Force was released on August 19th of 2016 on the Nintendo 3ds, but never became as popular as the main Metroid Prime games. The game was received poorly with a Metacritic score of 64%.

    Snipper Clips Expansion

Sniperclips: Cut it Out together is one of the best Switch launch titles. It brings people together, has an adorable look and is showcasing what the Nintendo Switch represents the best – from all games available so far. The game is still #1 on the eShop charts. However Snipperclips comes with only 61 stages which most of them can be completed rather quickly. Given the huge success of the game, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo plans to further support the game with a DLC pack. If you like you can read our review and take on Snipperclips here.

    Pokémon Stars

The recently announced Pokémon on Nintendo Switch has been in the dark since Nintendo first put the Pokémon logo on the list of games coming to the new hybrid console. No details or further information have been given on the highly anticipated Pokémon game. Chances are Nintendo will use the E3 to tease the video game a little more.

    Mario Odyssey

The game is set for a release this Holiday season, but all we have seen so far was a trailer and minimal details on the gameplay. Nintendo will most likely use it’s moment of fame at the E3 to further showcase the next installment in the Mario franchise.

    3rd Party Developers

3rd Party developers will most likely use the E3 to highlight their latest Nintendo Switch games as well. Not much is known about the upcoming Story of Seasons on the Switch. Stardew Valley on the other hand is going to be released this Summer with a Multiplayer mode on Nintendos latest console.

Bethesda is expected to release some The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim footage running on the Switch. And last but not least Dragon Quest XI will be released on 3DS and Playstation 4 on July 29th with the Switch release a little later, it is possible that Square Enix, developer behind the game will show some first footage of the game running on the Switch.

Electronic Arts may show some more Fifa 18 gameplay, as they promised it will not be a port, but a dedicated game for the Switch, it may be exciting to see how EA adjusts the popular soccer game to the hybrid console! If appropriate we will update the list as we get closer to this years E3.
