Woven has been officially announced to be releasing on Steam, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

    Woven

Woven is a super cute game that takes place in a woolen world. Everything is made of cloth, including the inhabitants. There is only one problem, the newcomers in the land are not made of cloth. Metal insects seem to be taking over the land.

You play as Stuffy, a lonely little stuffed elephant. You wander the world alone until you meet Glitch, a small metal flying beetle-like thing with no memory of its own past. With the help of Glitch, you must explore and solve puzzles to find out what the new metal baddies are up to.

    Woven

The world you explore is beautifully colored and textured to look fluffy and inviting. I was immediately drawn in by the soothing aesthetic of the game. It looks really fun and silly, and I can’t wait to try it.

Unfortunately the game will not be released until the final quarter of 2019’s fiscal year. So it looks like I will have to wait just a little bit longer. You can already wishlist it on Steam, which I recommend if it looks like a game you’d like to try.

Farm Folks is a farming simulation RPG developed by Overgrown and published by Crytivo. The creators say they were inspired by the classic Harvest Moon series, and now after a successful Kickstarter, they will be bringing this game in late 2019/early 2020 to Steam (wishlist here) and Crytivo (pre-order here). Farm Folks have it all; farming, raising animals, fishing, mining, relationships, exploration, and more! If you’re interested in what the developers have been up to since our previous article, read on below.

If you didn’t get the chance to make a pledge on Kickstarter for all of the awesome rewards, Crytivo offers different tiers for pre-order purchases, the largest costing $89.99 but includes the following: Unicorn Cow Pet, Beta Access, Digital Art Book, Name in the credits, Pre Alpha Access, Full Game, Digital Strategy Guide, Wallpapers, Alpha Access (now available), Steam Key, Silver Backer Badge, and Soundtrack.

    What’s New and What’s Next

The developers recently published a devblog update announcing that they have made big improvements to their core game mechanics as well as some bug fixes. Right now they are working on some changes for their crops, mainly the fact that there will now be diseases and auras! On that matter they say the following:

    • “We’re working on adding a few different types of diseases to the game. Each will affect your crops in a slightly different way, and require a different kind of pesticide.”
    • “On Softshoal Island, some species of crops have a mysterious aura surrounding them. These provide various benefits to nearby crops, such as reduced disease chance, faster growth, increased yield, or a better chance at a bumper harvest!”

Since the pre-Alpha, they have implemented weather; Sunny, Rainy, and Stormy. They’ve also added a diary to record all major and minor events (there will be a story), more buildables to unlock more areas to explore, and new animation for the farm animals. Speaking of farm animals, the developers have done away with gates and have allowed players to be able to pick up and throw their livestock! But what I’d love to learn more about most of all, are the new creatures native to Softshoal Island called Molo! They look like an adorable combination of floppy-eared rabbits and little pink piglets!

We’ll keep you updated as the developers continue to post weekly news about their progress with Farm Folks. If you can’t wait to get farming now, check out the Nintendo eShop sale, including My Time at Portia!

I talked about Food Fantasy earlier and how it’s available now for iOS and Android devices therefore I decided to try the free app for myself. Of course a game about unique characters inspired by foods would have me very interested! Food Fantasy is an RPG adventure management game where you have to manage and design your own restaurant, develop new recipes and gather the ingredients, as well as battling your way through the main story-line and side quests. There is so much to do in this game without ever having to wait long periods of time or having to spend real-life currency to advance. I can’t possibly cover all of the details today so I’d like to point out some basics and my favorite characters so far!

Food Souls are exactly what their name implies; souls come to being from food. They have magical abilities that humans have lost over the years and therefore can help us fight against the Fallen Angels that are consuming everything within the world. You have to form contracts with them in order for them to serve you as their Master Attendant and can be quite helpful maintaining a restaurant. Since it happens to be National Cheeseburger Day today (September 18th, 2019), I wanted to point out this awesome Food Soul literally named Hamburger. I haven’t managed to obtain him yet, but perhaps today is the day!

    Food Management Section

In your new restaurant you will be able to hire one Head Chef, and two assistant Staff members, Food Souls, that can help you out with profits. You’ll want to make sure that those particular Food Souls have Restaurant Skills and not just Combat Skills. Your Food Souls can only last so long, although some bonuses can prolong this, and will need to be swapped out. When their Freshness is at 0, you can stick them in the fridge! The Ice Arena will hold up to 3 Food Souls for free and will gain back their Freshness over a small period of time. If you can’t wait, use some items to speed up the process. In the Research menu, you’ll be creating new recipes or improving the ones you already have, as well as crafting said items mentioned above.

You can only uncover new recipes of your area of choice by trying different food combinations. I recommended using a guide for later on, only because the English translation in this and the infrequent use of the ‘space bar’, make it almost impossible to decipher the hints of locked recipes. If you’re missing ingredients, click on the one you want and it will guide you to the level where you can obtain more. Wait, did I just see a recipe for Stir-Fried Potatoes!?

    Battling with your Food Souls

Every day you’ll come across Daily Goals, Story Missions (main story and side-quests), Trials, etc in order to train your Food Souls and level up. You as the Master Attendant also need to gain levels by accomplishing these tasks in order for your Food Souls to be able to advance, Meaning, you can’t keep fighting if you’ve maxed them out. Your character can even help your Food Souls by learning some abilities via your Talents.

Your companions can go up in level, but also Star Rank when they are ready to Ascend. When you have enough items to Summon a new Food Soul at random, you can either unlock a new character, or get Shards toward one you already have that can be used to Ascend them. Then, by using in-game money, you can also level up your Food Souls’ skills to do more damage or support. It’s a lot to take in at first so I won’t get into it right now.

Combat in this isn’t too stressful as your characters will automatically do their basic attacks. When their energy bar fills, you can use their special attacks, which usually requires you to have characters that support each other (links). You can find out which characters to place together in your team by reading their skills. UR, then SR Rarity Food Souls, are the rarest characters you can obtain and therefore the most powerful. The game won’t tell you this so it takes some digging. Also, when deciding a team, make sure your Captain is the one you want because they start at 50% energy which can give you a huge advantage. Other than that, you’ll be spending a lot of time tapping on the screen at the right time.

    Design and Favorite Characters

I have thoroughly enjoyed “collecting” Food Souls and staring in amazement at their designs in relation to their names. Not only do you get beautiful portraits of each character, but you can also see them in their “chibi” forms which is absolutely adorable! Below are some screenshots of characters I find the most amusing out of the ones I have unlocked. May I present Peeking Duck: a character that battles with several miniature ducks!

I can’t help but feel a kinship to these characters as I have gone through my own journey of becoming more than just food. This game is also very addictive and easy to play while watching TV if you so choose. Ready to try it out for yourselves? You can go here for iOS and here for Android!

With the Kickstarter campaign of Potion Paws going live last Thursday, September 5th, 2019, the developers at Bitten Toast Games decided to throw an online community event within the multiplayer mode of Garden Paws. You may remember our review of the most adorable simulation RPG here and how we haven’t yet had the chance to try out the online feature of the game. Since it has been one of our favorites this year, we backed its spookier potion-making counterpart Potion Paws and took part in the giveaways and party! Besides, if you own both games on Steam, you’ll get crossover items in Creative Mode.

    Online Multiplayer and Creative Mode

When you play online in Garden Paws, you have the choice to create a server room and allow up to 4 players into your world. They can help you farm, fight monsters in the dungeon, and pretty much anything else you can do in single-player campaign. This is also a particularly useful way to share rare items. Creative Mode is basically a sandbox mode where you already have access to every single item the game has to offer with some added bonuses which include: a jetpack and magic carpet to fly around, the lawnmower from the Summer games festival, confetti canon, and more! If you’re looking for players to join you can always check out the awesome community of Garden Paws on the official Discord channel here.

    Garden Paws Online Community Event

The developers Dan and Kristina are frequently live-streaming on Twitch showcasing gameplay, accepting requests from followers while they continue to add new items and features to the game, and occasionally put on a “creative challenge” out to the community. Meaning, they tell you the theme and you can use the tools and items at your disposal to build and paint anything you can imagine! As mentioned above, to celebrate the Kickstarter launch of Potion Paws, Kristina opened a Dev Server allowing up to 32 people to join and create something carnival themed. You can catch the full 8-hour stream on Twitch here, or see below for our particular experience!

    Photo Gallery of Online Party

Since the theme was “carnival”, fellow tater Joelle (that’s me!) decided to join the fun and created her own Balloon Shop! In Garden Paws you can either have your character hold balloons in their hands while running around, or place them anywhere for decoration. As seen in the screenshots below, you can build foundations, fences, paths and place furniture, and then you can paint them with solid colors or patterns. There are even letters of the alphabet to use! I gave anyone who walked up to my booth a balloon because I was so proud of my contribution to this event.

Next up we took a look at Kristina’s (the dev) half-built Ferris-wheel using wood pieces and cabana benches. We all took the available seating for a wonderful photo-op overlooking the sea and islands.

Here we have a wonderfully creative way to build a merry-go-round using in-game farm animals and pets! The details here must have taken quite a long time! Everyone hopped on for a ride! I chose the glittering rare unicorn because I could; I got there first.

There were 3 major attractions that actually turned into little mini-games for all to try out. Someone took garden hedges and created quite the challenging maze, another created a huge 3-story glass house maze, and finally at the tallest point on the island you could glide through some hoops and bounce off of trampolines at the bottom. It took me a while to complete the glass house maze but I had some excellent cheerleaders by my side!

During Creative Mode, you still go through the day/night cycle so that all of your hard work saves at the end of the day. Every time we start the day, we end up together in a specific location which lead to shenanigans. This area of the gallery contains immature screenshots because, well, there exists a fart mechanic. “Look Ma! I’m farting on Twitch TV!”

We redeemed ourselves afterward by celebrating with many fireworks and confetti! This is what happens when you can place as many fireworks as you want before lighting them and being able to equip a confetti canon that you can fire off to your hearts content!

Here are a few other buildings created by the community, including a floating deck perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view. No worries about falling, we’re all wearing jetpacks. We’d also really like to know who built that boat from scratch and how!

After a long day of partying, we all relaxed inside a forest sanctuary built by placing quite a few trees to form walls. I have my pet deer with me and I’m roasting some marshmallows by the fire.

I had a really fun experience with the online multiplayer of Garden Paws and would like to thank everyone that joined this party! Hopefully this brings even more players to the game and to this amazing community full of really great people. If you have any extra screenshots of this event, please feel free to share them with us on social media or comment/tag if you see your character. If you’re just starting out, you can check out some of our Garden Paws tips for beginners here.
