Earlier this year, My Potato Games posted an article about the exciting upcoming action-adventure RPG that is Baldo. The developers of Baldo are an Italian indie games studio (NAPS Team) consisting of just two people. Busy working on the game, the small studio weren’t able to post frequent updates. Some people were frustrated by this, and some forgot all about the game. However, NAPS Team hadn’t forgotten about us. It was a pleasant surprise to see gameplay footage of Baldo in yesterday’s (17/03/20) Nintendo Switch Indie World Showcase, where Baldo was easily the highlight. But that’s not the most exciting part. We now have a release window of August 2020, when the game will be released digitally as a Nintendo Switch Timed Exclusive (essentially meaning that it will be a limited edition game).

    About:

Baldo is a Zelda-inspired action-adventure RPG game with a cel-shaded art style. Many people have compared the game’s art style and vibes to that of Studio Ghibli and Ni No Kuni.

    Announcement Trailer:

There isn’t a huge amount of information about Baldo available. However, the following Nintendo announcement trailer, shows that in-game action is top-down, but that the game’s pseudo-realistic backgrounds are 3D.

The description beneath the game’s announcement trailer says the following:

‘The prophecy came true, the pure child is born. The no heart creature sealed in the underworld by the wise owls is about to rise again. The game is set in the world of Rodia, a journey into a magical land full of mysteries to discover. Baldo is an action adventure rpg, full of puzzles and intricate dungeons to solve. Traveling around the world, Baldo will interact with many weird and funny characters scattered everywhere, to complete the main story quest and many other side quests. You’ll travel into an open world map discovering new towns and people, fighting enemies, locating hidden temples and collecting objects to get new weapons or items to use.’

    Nindies Showcase Trailer:

In yesterday’s Baldo trailer, we got a short summary from the game’s actual art director of what Baldo is all about. With NAPS Team “Being fans of all great action-adventure RPG’s and of iconic Japanese anime”, they had always had a “dream to create something that unified those two things”. The Indie studio “wanted a game that would be a journey to a magical world full of fantastic characters, complex dungeons to face and puzzles to solve”.

The cost of the game has not yet been announced, but will likely be specified on the game’s Nintendo page in due course.

Currently in development by Naps Team, Baldo is an upcoming action-adventure coming to Switch, amongst other platforms. The Zelda-inspired game has a cel-shaded art style, which is comparable to that of Studio Ghibli and Ni No Kuni.

There isn’t a lot of information available about Baldo. However, the following Nintendo announcement trailer, shows that in-game action is top-down, but that the game’s pseudo-realistic backgrounds are 3D.

You’ll travel into an open world map discovering new towns and people, fighting enemies, locating hidden temples and collecting objects to get new weapons or items to use.

From the trailer, it looks like players encounter a variety of characters and monsters. Additionally, it appears that dungeon-crawling, puzzle-solving and exploration all feature in the game.

Baldo will release on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.

A release date for the game is still TBA.

Baldo has its own Facebook and Twitter pages where you can follow the game’s progress. Despite a lack of posts since earlier in 2019, Baldo recently replied to a post on WholesomeGames Twitter on 12th January.

    Yay! They’re alive! 🙂

Nintendo has just surprised us with a game available now, as of November 8th, 2019, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The Stretchers is a physics-based cooperative (1-2 players) action and puzzle game developed by Tarsier Studios (Tearaway Unfolded). You’re medics tasked with saving residents struck by the Dizzies and delicately (not really) bring them to the ambulance! There’s just something about physics-based games, such as Grabimals, that’s way too funny.

    About The Stretchers

The world has a bad case of the Dizzies—residents dizzied by Captain Brains—and only you can rescue them! Work with a friend in co-op or skillfully control two medics on your own to overcome the physics-based puzzles of each madcap mission. Either way, how you go about it is totally up to you, whether you work together to transport many Dizzies at once on a stretcher or work in parallel by splitting up dragging the Dizzies to the ambulance one by one. As you play and replay missions, you’ll complete bonus objectives and uncover hidden collectibles with hilarious results!

You’ll also unlock additional hats, costume colors, and furniture for your home base by exploring mission areas and the world map. When you receive a distress call, don’t be afraid to get curious and experiment. You never know what hilarity will ensue, whether it’s the laugh-out-loud writing or yet another unexpected slapstick situation. But don’t let the levity distract you from your ultimate mission: to stop the evil mastermind Captain Brains and the spread of his chaotic Dizzies!

You can purchase the Stretchers on the Nintendo eShop here for only $25.19!

Over two years ago, we covered the then-upcoming PS4 release of a cute little game galled Wuppo. Imagine our surprise when, after sneaking onto the Nintendo Switch e-shop to admire Link’s Awakening screenshots (again), we saw Wuppo: Definitive Edition gleaming proudly among the other upcoming releases! The game is set to release less than a week from now, on September 5.

Wuppo is a Wum. (Wums appear to be small spherical creatures of different colours who resemble something between a rice ball and a gumball with four tiny legs.) And Wuppo has lost his home. He has been exiled! There’s nothing left to do but travel the world and find somewhere new to call home. It looks like he’ll have some pretty big adventures along the way. And maybe even resolving some ancient conflicts as he goes! If you’ve got to resolve ancient conflicts, we think doing so in a cute and colourful world is the best choice.

    That looks really heavy!

    Game Features

    • Enjoy the game together in an all new co-op mode!
    • Explore a wondrous world filled with Wums, Fnakkers and other strange creatures.
    • Resolve an ancient conflict on your quest for a new home.
    • Use items and social skills to overcome diverse challenges.
    • Fight numerous enemies, ranging from small, to big, to MASSIVE!
    • Collect filmstrips to discover the world’s detailed history.
    • Enjoy an enchanting and memorable orchestrated soundtrack.
Is trumpet-playing one of our social skills? Or are those bubble wands?

We look forward to honing our social skills and collecting bits of filmstrip to piece together the world’s history on September 5th. (Wuppo: Definitive Edition will also be on Steam and GoG.) Watch the video here for more information.

For another game about a cute protagonist trying to get home, check out A Hat in Time. It will hit Nintendo Switch on October 18, and it, too, will have a brand new co-op mode!

This is Mavis the psychic squid with her favorite toy frog! Mavis believes she has prophetic dreams, wherein she converses with peeps from galaxies close and far. Sometimes these dreams seep into her waking reality and cause a bit of confusion, but it’s nothing her unthinking hat can’t tackle.

These little skittish Colour Brites can be found and collected along the way in the game and returned to the Coral Reef.

    Post Image

ENCODYA is a point-and-click adventure game set in a dystopian future by sole developer Nicola Piovesan, an award-winning filmmaker. What inspired him to create ENCODYA was the “creativity of Studio Ghibli, the setting and atmosphere of Blade Runner and the humor and game style of Monkey Island”. Although this reminds us of the 1999 animated film Iron Giant and we’re loving it. You can back this game on Kickstarter now, and for another 24 days, right here! The game will release for PC, Mac and Linux (Steam and GOG) with a plan to later port it for mobile and consoles.

    About ENCODYA

It’s 2062. Tina – a 9 years old orphan – lives with SAM-53 – her big clumsy robot guardian – on a rooftop makeshift shelter in Neo-Berlin, a dark megalopolis controlled by corporations. The protagonist is an urban jungle kid, which has learned to live alone, scavenging dumpsters of the dystopian city, eking out a living of scraps. Her funny robot always with her, programmed to protect the girl no matter what.

    Key Features

    • 6+ hours of gameplay
    • 2 playable characters
    • 30+ non-player characters
    • 50+ locations
    • 500+ lines of dialogue
    • Randomization of objects and locations
    • Original art and assets
    • Custom sound design
    • Original soundtrack
    • Professional voice actors

    Kickstarter Rewards and Stretch Goals

Besides the game itself – with lots of bonus digital features such as wallpapers, concept arts, videos, soundtrack and more – there are many cool extras: film posters, blu-rays, t-shirt and even a retro style physical copy of ENCODYA in a box! But the most attractive rewards are the ones that will place the backers into the game itself! See your name in the Neo Berlin phonebook or on a neon sign, or be in a poster, or even become an NPC with whom the player can interact and talk!

Finally, the stretch goals are as follows: translation to 3 extra languages (Italian, German, Spanish), one extra hour of gameplay (new puzzles, locations, characters), and the last goal having yet to be revealed.

If you’re still unsure about backing this project, you can try out the demo here or see below for more details. For another point-and-click adventure game darker in tone, check out our article here: Roki: Explore A Dark Yet Wonderful World.
