Today, June 9th, 2022, is The Summer Game Fest’s big opening event! So from now until Monday, be prepared for a bombardment of articles by us with news on cute and wholesome games! Let’s start with how Triband, the developers that gave us the hilarious golf-but-not-really-golf sim WHAT THE GOLF, announced a new game! WHAT THE BAT will be another silly physics-based game but in VR (virtual reality).

There’s not much actual baseball involved with WHAT THE BAT, but you can use your baseball bat arms to, well, bat things. This means there will be 100 unique levels of batting, cooking, shooting, smashing, parking, painting, pickling, so on and so forth. Yes, you will also be able to pet the dog, although that makes me sort of nervous in this case.

Coming to Meta Quest 2 and Steam in 2022

You can Wishlist WHAT THE BAT on Steam here. However, don’t be too discouraged that it will only release for PC, as we know WHAT THE GOLF later came out for the Nintendo Switch.

Donut County, devoloped by Ben Esposito and published by Annapurna Interactive (What Remains of Edith Finch), released on SteamPS4GOG, the App Store, and the Mac App Store in 2018. Thanks to the awesome Steam’s Halloween Sale, I was able to play this hilarious physics-based puzzle game. It is indeed reverse-Katamari from the gameplay mechanics and premise, to the colorful and whimsical world of strange characters. In Donut County, you control a hole and put everything and anything in it! My only complaint is that I wish the game was longer because I enjoyed it so much. You can check out my full gameplay of 2 hours below!

The idea of starting with consuming smaller objects so that you can grow-in-size and move on to larger ones, had me sold. But the game goes even further by adding a fully-formed and ridiculous plot about raccoons building a bigger trash empire through use of their technology. Apparently that includes this remote-controlled hole that brings what it swallows 999 feet underground. So don’t worry, no animals were harmed during your enjoyment of total destruction.

To shake things up a little, certain levels require a tad more strategy like with hard-to-reach objects. For example, you can upgrade the hole to have a launcher to shoot things upward, such as a frog to catch the flies. You can’t die and you can’t really mess up so you can just keep trying different things until they work! Eventually our friend the raccoon, BK, gets stuck down under with the entire town and helps to come up with a plan to send everyone back.

This 3D cooperative (1-4 players) physics-based puzzler is about using your adorably tiny hands to connect with your friends and create new shapes. When playing it in single-player mode, you can swap between pieces. Grabimals, developed by SAD & SON, will be releasing sometime in 2020 for PC and Nintendo Switch.

As you can see from the images below, there are 6 different puzzle types you may encounter while playing. There’s the Gap where you’ll need to become a bridge, the Build where you form an object like a chair, the Ride where the example is trying to stay on a mechanical bull, the Shadow where you’ll be recreating shapes via your shadows, the Catch where you grab and hold objects, and Play which looks like a fun Jenga party!

    About Grabimals

Grabimals merges the concept of building and playing into a brand new experience where players control a party of unique creatures and connect them together to solve a wide variety of puzzles.

Donut County is a physics puzzle and adventure game developed by Ben Esposito and published by Annapurna Interactive. In this colorful game, there are adorable characters to meet and holes to throw them in. Not to mention – tons of trash to steal.

    About Donut County:

You play as BK. He’s a raccoon – and a new hire at a startup. The startup utilizes remote-controlled holes to steal trash. It’s a pretty sweet gig for a raccoon until…BK falls into one of the holes.

Then he has to answer to his best friend – Mira – and the other (adorable) residents of Donut County. They’re pretty unhappy with BK because they’re now trapped 999 feet below their homes.

So, what do you do? You control a hole. Whenever you swallow something, the hole grows a little bit bigger. It reminds us of Katamari Damacy.

You also solve puzzles by combining different objects inside of the hole then launching them back out.

    Key Features:

    • Combine objects for surprising effects.
    • Launch them back out to solve puzzles.
    • Explore negative space.
    • Ruin everyone’s day by devouring everything!

    Watch the trailer:

Donut County is available on Steam, PS4, GOG, the App Store, and the Mac App Store. Get it for 33% off on Steam and GOG before the end of tomorrow, July 9th!
