Animal Crossing: New Horizons is ‘Switching’ up things that fans of the franchise are used to in a few ways. One of these changes is that you will initially only have two animals residing on your island. This won’t last for too long though, and you will soon get more villagers moving to your island. On the other hand, you may not be happy with your island’s current inhabitants and wish for them to leave. And so here’s how to add and remove residents in New Horizons.

    Method 1

To add more villagers, you’ll need to have built the museum and Nook’s Cranny (which you can read how to do here) and upgraded your tent to a home. Upon speaking to Tom Nook, he will tell you that there are others thinking about moving to the island. In order to prepare for their arrival, he will ask you to construct a bridge. After this, he will give you the task of picking spots for their homes.

Finally, you will need to craft the specified interior items and exterior items of each home. Once you’ve built and placed all the required items, speak with Tom Nook, and three random residents will move in the next day, unless you’ve already invited animals from other deserted islands..

    Method 2

You can visit other deserted islands by purchasing a Nook Miles Ticket. Nook Miles Tickets can be purchased for 2,000 Nook Miles from the Nook Stop Terminal at Residents Services. You can then head to the airport, speak to the Dodo behind the counter, and head to a deserted island. You can find flowers, insects and bugs on any island you visit.

However, there will also be a animal wandering around the island. If you speak with them twice, you will be able to invite them to your island. If you do this before the completion of the three houses you helped Tom Nook with, any animals you have invited from deserted islands will move in instead of random animals.

    Method 3

Once you have built the Residents services building, you will then be able to construct a campsite. Once the campsite is built, be sure to pop inside daily to see if there are any visitors. You can invite any visitors that you want to live on your island by speaking with them and convincing them to move there.

    Method 4

If you have Animal Crossing amiibo cards, you can use them to invite animals to your campsite. To do this, simply head to the Residents Services building, interact with the Nook Stop terminal and select ‘invite to campsite’. You then need to press your desired amiibo card to the NFC reader on your Switch console.

The character will then be summoned to your campsite, where after talking to them several times, you may be able to invite them to your island to stay. If this is unsuccessful, you can try again the next day. Special NPC’s such as Isabelle, Resetti, Mable etc are unable to pay a visit to your campsite. For more on amiibo features in New Horizons, click here.

How To Get Rid Of Villagers

In order to have an island with your favourite characters, it’s likely that you may want to know how to get rid of unwanted residents. Unfortunately getting rid of characters takes more time and patience than it does to invite them.

A confirmed method of getting an islander to leave is to simply ignore them. This is especially effective if they are new to the island and you have not yet built up a rapport with them.

Another method rumoured to speed up the eviction process is to complain about the resident you wish to leave to Isabelle. Isabelle can be found in the Resident Services. Upon speaking to her, you can select ‘discuss a resident’ and then pick the character you wish to leave.

‘You can pick any reason for making a complaint about the said villager. Some people have reported the unwanted villager thinking about leaving after just three days of making complaints to Isabelle. This could be a coincidence, but is worth a try.

NB: Whilst it should work, whacking villagers with bug nets doesn’t seem to make them want to leave any faster.

One of the first things you may have noticed when playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the lack of bridges. A second obstacle you may have noticed is cliffs full of fauna begging to be explored, but with no way to climb up to them. There are solutions to both of these dilemmas, in the form of vaulting poles and ladders. These items will allow you to explore the rest of your island. And so here’s how to climb cliffs and pole vault in New Horizons.

    How To Pole Vault

As there are no bridges on your island initially, the vaulting pole tool comes in very handy. The tool cannot be purchased and is one that you will have to craft yourself using a DIY recipe. You can obtain the crafting recipe for the vaulting pole tool from Blathers. To speak with Blathers, you will need to have convinced him to visit the island. In order to do this, you need to donate five fish or bugs to Tom Nook in the Residents Services tent (which you can read more about here).

Animal Crossing New Horizons vaulting pole

Once the tent (where the museum will eventually be located) is constructed, you can go inside and speak with Blathers. Blathers needs 15 different exhibits in order to get permission to build a museum. He therefore gives you the DIY recipe for a vaulting pole so that you can cross rivers and find fossils.

Animal Crossing New Horizons vaulting pole

The vaulting pole is an easy item to craft. The recipe requires only five pieces of softwood, which can be obtained by chopping at trees with an axe. Unlike other tools, the vaulting pole won’t break. In order to use the vaulting pole, you need to face the river, equip the vaulting pole from your pockets like other tools, and simply press A to cross the river.

    How To Climb Cliffs

You may have noticed that your island has a lot of cliff areas full of fauna that are seemingly inaccessible. However, you can access these areas by using a ladder. Like vaulting poles, ladders cannot be purchased and must be crafted. And in order to craft a ladder, you will need a recipe for it.

You will be able to acquire the ladder recipe after several days of gameplay. Once you have upgraded your tent to a house and built Nook’s Cranny, it will become apparent that new villagers are looking to move to your island. If you then speak with Tom Nook, he will request your help in preparing for the new arrivals.

Your first task will be to build a bridge. In order to build the bridge, you will need 4x clay, 4x stone, and 4x log stakes. Log stakes can be crafted using 3x wood at the workbench. Once you have built the bridge, Tom Nook will request your help in choosing plots and preparing the future residents’ homes. During this process, he will call to inform you that one recipe requires flowers that can only be found on the island’s clifftops. He will then proceed to give you a DIY recipe for a ladder in order to access the cliffs.

The ladder is easy to craft as it only requires 4x wood, 4x softwood, and 4x hardwood. The ladder can be used by equipping it like other tools, facing a cliff you wish to climb, and then pressing A.

Upon arriving at your island, you may be disappointed to find it looking pretty empty. In previous mainline games, the museum, a tailors, and a general store would be on the map from the start. Although disappointing, it makes sense that these amenities wouldn’t be readily available on a deserted island. The good news, however, is that you can unlock them as you progress through the game. And so here’s how to unlock Nook’s Cranny & the museum in New Horizons.

    Unlocking Nook’s Cranny

The Nooklings start out by selling a limited amount of items from the resident services tent that they share with their uncle. After a few days, they will ask for your help to build their very own shop. They require the following resources in order to build ‘Nook’s Cranny’, which is named in honour of their uncle:

    • 30 wood
    • 30 softwood
    • 30 hardwood
    • 30 iron nuggets

Wood, softwood, and hardwood can all be obtained by chopping at trees with an axe, which can be crafted in the Residents Services tent.

Iron nuggets can be acquired by hitting rocks with a shovel, which again, can be crafted at the Residents Services tent. Hitiing rocks with a shovel can also produce stone, clay, and bells if you find the money rock. This means that it may take a couple of days to gather the 30 iron nuggets necessary. A way to get more iron nuggets is by using Nook Miles to purchase a Nook Miles ticket. These can be redeemed from the terminal inside the Resident Services tent. A Nook Miles ticket allows you to go to the airport and visit a random island. Once there you can gather resources like you would on your own island. Anything obtained whilst there can be brought back with you.

Once you donate the required resources to Timmy in the Resident Services tent, you will be able to pick a spot for the shop. The shop will be built and open for business the next calendar day. It will stock a wider variety of goods, including un-craftable furniture and wallpaper and flooring.

    Unlocking The Museum

On your first day on your island, you will be given a DIY crafting lesson from Tom Nook. He will then give you DIY recipes for a flimsy rod and a flimsy net. He says that he would “love to see anything you manage to catch”. If you speak to Tom Nook in the Residents Services tent after catching a critter, you will be able to select the “I found a creature!” option and donate it to him.

To convince Blathers to come to your island, you need to donate five fish or bugs to Tom Nook. Once you have donated five critters, Tom Nook will receive a conveniently well-timed call from Blathers. Blathers is now convinced enough that the island has an interesting variety of fauna, and wishes to visit. You will then be given the task of choosing a spot for his tent. This will be where the museum is eventually located, so make sure to pick the spot carefully.

Blathers will arrive in his tent the next day. Upon talking to him, he will tell you that he needs more exhibit entries in order to open a proper museum. Once you have provided him with 15 exhibits, which include fossils, fish, and bugs, you will be able to construct the museum. The building will take two calendar days until it is constructed.

    Post Image

At the beginning of the game, Mr. Nook is one very generous Tanuki (yes, yes!). Instead of having to pay off the itemized bill for the Nook Inc. Getaway Package in bells, you can use Nook Miles instead. Nook Miles can be earned by completing various tasks such as catching fish and bugs, speaking to neighbours, pulling weeds, etc.

After paying off the itemized bill for the Getaway Package however, things will become more costly. Tom Nook will offer to upgrade your tent into a house.

But ever, the enterpeneur, it will require bells as opposed to Nook Miles to pay for it. You won’t have to pay for it up front, but you will still have to pay 98,000 bells for it before you can upgrade it. And once you have a house, you will want to furnish it, and furniture costs bells. Clothing and accessories also cost bells. They say money makes the world go round, and apprently island life is no exception! So here are some ways to make bells.

Use Nook Miles To Buy Bells:

Once you’ve unlocked Nook’s Cranny, you can buy Bell Vouchers from the Nook Stop machine for 500 Nook Miles a pop. Each Bell Voucher will give you 3,000 bells upon purchase. If you save up your Nook Miles, this is a great way to access cash quickly.

    Selling Weeds:

In previous mainline Animal Crossing games, weed-pulling was nothing but a monotonous nuisance. In New Horizons however, weeds are a lot more interesting believe it or not. As well as there being a variety of different looking weeds, you can actually sell them and receive Nook Miles for doing so.

    The Stalk Market:

The stalk market return in New Horizons. Previously, players could buy turnips from a boar named Joan. In New Horizons however, Joan’s grandaughter, Daisy-Mae, has taken on the role. Daisy-Mae will visit your island every Sunday, where she will sell turnips that vary in price from week to week. If you play your cards right, you can make a tidy profit selling them to the Nooklings. But bare in mind that their prices change daily, so you could end up losing money.

    Selling Bugs And Fish:

The Nooklings will buy any bugs and fish that you catch on your island. You can sell your catches at the residential services tent, and at Nook’s Cranny once you have unlocked it. You may want to donate the first new bugs and fish that you catch to the museum though, so that they can be added to the museum’s collection. Beware when trying to catch tarantulas though..

    Selling Fossils:

Like with fish and bugs, you may want to donate any new fossils you dig up to the museum. However, fossils can also be sold to the Nooklings and tend to fetch a good price.

    Daily Money Rock:

Every day, there will be one rock on your island that is a money rock. A money rock will produce bells when you hit it with a shovel. It can be a little time tiresome going around your island hitting rocks until you find that day’s money rock. However, it’s money at the end of the day. Just make sure to use a stronger shovel than the flimsy shovel, in case the flimsy shovel happens to break whilst your hitting the money rock.

    Shaking Trees:

A variety of items can be obtained by shaking trees in New Horizons. You can sell the fruit that you get from shaking fruit trees, and trees will drop branches which can be sold too. Sometimes, shaking a tree will result in a piece of furniture being dropped, which can be sold to the Nooklings. Sometimes shaking a tree will result in a swarm of angry wasps chasing and stinging you. But hey, you win some, you lose some.

    Hot Item Of The Day:

This money-making method is similar to the daily premium items that Reese would purchase for a higher price in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. In New Horizons, after you unlock Nook’s Cranny, the Nooklings will randomly select a ‘hot item of the day’. They will buy this item for double the price they’d usually pay you.

    Other Money-Making Methods:

    • If you see a glowing gold-coloured spot, use a shovel to dig and you will unearth some bells.
    • Shells can be collected from the beach and sold to the Nooklings.
    • If you shoot down a floating present with your slingshot, you will either receive bells, or furniture which you can sell for bells.
    • If you complete favours for other residents, they will reward you with bells, or furniture or clothing which can be sold for bells.

Are you unhappy with where you decided to place a building? Do you want to reorganise your town? Are you fed up with animals who are housed near you wandering through your yard? Well don’t fret, as New Horizons allows players to move buildings.

Post Office, an expanded Museum and even new shops might be coming to Animal Crossing New Horizons!

    How To Move A Building:

Whilst you won’t be able to move buildings straight away in New Horizons, it will become possible as you progress through the game. In order to move a building or house that you have placed, you will need to have built the Resident Services building. In order to unlock the Resident Services building, you will need to have built 3 houses, a bridge, Nook’s Cranny, and the museum.

Once you have unlocked the Resident Services building, head inside and talk with Tom Nook, and choose the ‘let’s talk infrastructure’ option and ask for layout changes. You will then be able to choose from a list of buiding types to relocate. These include the museum, shops, and other residents’ homes. The only building that can’t be moved is the Resident Services building itself.

    The Cost Of Moving Buildings:

Relocating a building on your island will incur a fee. It will cost you 50,000 bells to move another resident’s home, a shop, or any other building that you do not own. It will cost you 30,000 bells in order to relocate your own home.

How To Move Your Own Home:

To move your house, you will again need to speak with Tom Nook in the Residents Services building. This time, you will need to choose the ‘About my home’ option where you can then opt to relocate your house.

If you make the decision to move a building, you will get a kit from Tom Nook in order to select the new location. This will work in the same manner as when you first placed the building. Simply find your desired spot, and providing it’s a relatively open space with no water or cliffs nearby, you will be able to place your building there. Your building will then appear in your chosen spot the next day.

Last year, Twitter user Paul Hubans posted a tweet showing his grandmother’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf activity log. Paul’s grandmother, Audrey, adored playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf and reportedly played it every day from 12/25/2014 for nearly 4 years, when her 3DS unfortunately broke in 2018. After getting Audrey a new 3DS for Christmas in 2018, Paul noticed something very impressive during a system transfer. Audrey’s activity log showed that she had racked up a staggering 3,580 hours of playtime in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Paul later posted a heartwarming YouTube video where he introduced his grandmother (mayor Audie), who gave a tour of her town. The wholesome video went viral, and as of today, has nearly 9.5 million views.

Audrey has a place in the hearts of many within the Animal Crossing Community, who even raised funds for her to get an Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch.

One of the top ranking comments on Paul Huban’s YouTube video pleaded for Nintendo to immortalize Audrey by naming a character after her in New Horizons. It seems that Nintendo were equally as impressed as Audrey’s fans and have seemingly a character after her.

New Horizons will feature a new female wolf character named Audie. It could be a coincidence, but it seems unlikely considering the attention garnered by the Animal Crosing superfan gradmother. And with that level of dedication, if anyone deserves to be made into a character, it’s her.

    Post Image

Earlier this year, My Potato Games posted an article about the exciting upcoming action-adventure RPG that is Baldo. The developers of Baldo are an Italian indie games studio (NAPS Team) consisting of just two people. Busy working on the game, the small studio weren’t able to post frequent updates. Some people were frustrated by this, and some forgot all about the game. However, NAPS Team hadn’t forgotten about us. It was a pleasant surprise to see gameplay footage of Baldo in yesterday’s (17/03/20) Nintendo Switch Indie World Showcase, where Baldo was easily the highlight. But that’s not the most exciting part. We now have a release window of August 2020, when the game will be released digitally as a Nintendo Switch Timed Exclusive (essentially meaning that it will be a limited edition game).

    About:

Baldo is a Zelda-inspired action-adventure RPG game with a cel-shaded art style. Many people have compared the game’s art style and vibes to that of Studio Ghibli and Ni No Kuni.

    Announcement Trailer:

There isn’t a huge amount of information about Baldo available. However, the following Nintendo announcement trailer, shows that in-game action is top-down, but that the game’s pseudo-realistic backgrounds are 3D.

The description beneath the game’s announcement trailer says the following:

‘The prophecy came true, the pure child is born. The no heart creature sealed in the underworld by the wise owls is about to rise again. The game is set in the world of Rodia, a journey into a magical land full of mysteries to discover. Baldo is an action adventure rpg, full of puzzles and intricate dungeons to solve. Traveling around the world, Baldo will interact with many weird and funny characters scattered everywhere, to complete the main story quest and many other side quests. You’ll travel into an open world map discovering new towns and people, fighting enemies, locating hidden temples and collecting objects to get new weapons or items to use.’

    Nindies Showcase Trailer:

In yesterday’s Baldo trailer, we got a short summary from the game’s actual art director of what Baldo is all about. With NAPS Team “Being fans of all great action-adventure RPG’s and of iconic Japanese anime”, they had always had a “dream to create something that unified those two things”. The Indie studio “wanted a game that would be a journey to a magical world full of fantastic characters, complex dungeons to face and puzzles to solve”.

The cost of the game has not yet been announced, but will likely be specified on the game’s Nintendo page in due course.
